'Righteous Kill' Starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro Is the Best Thriller for 'Dexter' Fans
Image
Dexter — a punchy indictment of all-too-common prosecutorial failures — remains as stingingly relevant as ever. For lovers of tales about clever, meticulous, and oft-weird characters, the show will never expire. And things are seemingly getting better. The crime drama’s fans never thought they’d have it this good, considering how poorly things ended the first time around. Debra’s death and Dexter’s happy ending arc in the finale left a bad taste in fans’ mouths. Beyond that, the final season, in general, was considered weak by most critics, scoring 35% on Rotten Tomatoes (the lowest for any season). Thankfully, the brilliant minds at Showtime have made serious efforts to write the wrongs.

Ray Liotta's Final Movie Debuts With 93% Audience Score On Rotten Tomatoes
Image
1992, Ray Liotta's last movie, has arrived, and it will end his career with praise. The actor was known for his performances in Field of Dreams, Hannibal, Goodfellas, and more. He died suddenly and unexpectedly in his sleep at 67 years old in 2022. He was working on the production for Dangerous Waters and never lived to see it finished. He has had several movies released after his death, including an edited version of Cocaine Bear. His final movie tells the stories of two small families living through the 1992 LA riots.

With 1992 finally in theaters, audiences had the opportunity to see Liotta's final performance, and the response has been nothing but praise. With a 94% score on the Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter, it has earned a Hot designation, represented by a full and upright bucket of popcorn. The critics were less favorable, though still offered a 67% Tomatometer score. Both scores are positive, but the 27% difference is stark.

1992: Lionsgate drops first trailer for one of Ray Liotta’s final roles
Ray Liotta
It’s been over two years since we sadly lost Ray Liotta, but the iconic actor did leave a handful of unreleased projects behind, including 1992, an action-crime thriller in which he stars alongside Tyrese Gibson and Scott Eastwood. Lionsgate has released the first official trailer for 1992, which features an intense final performance from Liotta.

Tyrese Gibsons stars in 1992 as Mercer, a man desperately trying to rebuild his life and relationship with his son (Christopher A’mmanuel) amidst the turbulent 1992 L.A. uprising following the Rodney King verdict. Across town, another father and son (Ray Liotta & Scott Eastwood) put their own strained relationship to the test as they plot a dangerous heist to steal catalytic converters, which contain valuable platinum, from the factory where Mercer works. X Best Mma Fighters-Turned-Actors, Ranked (Including Conor McGregor)
Image
The best Mma fighters-turned-actors showcased unstoppable determination in both the ring and onscreen. Some fighters, like Oleg Taktarov, seamlessly transitioned from winning titles to starring opposite Hollywood legends. Controversy hasn't stopped fighters like Ronda Rousey from finding success in film after their fighting careers.

Finding success as an Mma fighter took commitment, determination, and skill, so it only made sense that many acclaimed fighters later transferred these talents to the world of acting. With acclaimed roles in action, comedy, dramas, and sci-fi, several high-profile fighters have carved out second careers for themselves in Hollywood after already making sports history with impressive runs in Mma organizations like the UFC. While Mma fighters who transitioned into acting have had their fair share of controversies, that did not stop them from breaking into the world of film and television.

‘The Machine’ Review: Bert Kreischer Leads Obnoxious But Quick-Witted & Increasingly Funny Action Romp
Image
The Machine is loud, gross, obnoxious and overbearing. It’s also disarming, quick-witted, fast moving and becomes increasingly funny as it ends up in, of all places, Russia for its payoff scenes.

Presided over, if that is the right term, by the irrepressible Bert Kreischer, the big-gutted comedian who goes by the name The Machine and prefers to appear without a shirt on whenever possible, has landed his first big feature film at age 50 and continues the same comic shtick he’s been doing for years. Lo and behold, it’s still pretty funny stuff. This is a big picture for a big guy, and Kreischer is so persistent, and persistently off the wall, that it’s finally far easier to enjoy the party than to carp and resist.

Kreischer makes a point of performing with his shirt off when at all possible, something that becomes a tad strange in...

The Machine Review
Image
Plot: Set 23 years after the original story which inspired it, The Machine finds Bert Kreischer facing familial crisis and the arrival of his estranged father when the ghost of his booze-soaked past arrives: a murderous mobster hellbent on kidnapping Bert back to the motherland to atone for his crimes. Together, he and his father must retrace the steps of his younger self in the midst of a war between a sociopathic crime family while they attempt to find common ground.

Review: This weekend boasts two theatrical films featuring stand-up comedians with dedicated fanbases in stories about their relationship with their father. Both Sebastian Maniscalco and Bert Kreischer have performed elements of the stories at the core of their big-screen adventures, but the results could not be further apart. While About My Father is a wholesome bromance centered on the culture clash of two families, The Machine is a balls-to-the-wall action...

Bert Kreischer on The Machine, Mark Hamill, and Finding Himself
Image
Bert Kreischer is a stand-up comedian who has done it all. He has been featured in multiple magazines, is the host of various television series and podcasts, and how is set to be the star of a feature film: The Machine. The Kreischer film is an action comedy that is based on his most famous routine from 2016, where he recounted his real-life college experience in Russia with some Russian gangsters. The movie features a plot where he and his father (played by Mark Hamill) are kidnapped by the mob who wants revenge on Kreischer for how he wronged them all those years ago.

In addition to Kreischer and Hamill, the cast includes Jimmy Tatro as a younger Kreischer, Jess Gabor as Bert's daughter Georgia Kreischer, and iconic actors like Stephanie Kurtzuba and Oleg Taktarov. The film is a fictionalized exaggeration of Kreischer's stand-up routine, but the film tackles some genuinely emotional moments,...

(Welcome to ...And More, our no-frills, zero B.S. guide to when and where you can watch upcoming movies and shows, and everything else you could possibly stand to know.)

Long before Ryan Reynolds stepped in as Deadpool, Detective Pikachu, or the co-owner of the Welsh football club Wrexham A.F.C., most people knew him as the star of "National Lampoon's Van Wilder." But did you know that the titular seventh-year senior was actually based on a real person? The charismatic character was based on a Florida State University student that was profiled by Rolling Stone in 1997. Dubbed "the top partyer at the Number One Party School in the country," that student's name was Bert Kreischer.

Now known for his stand-up comedy (which he performs without a shirt on), the St. Petersburg native has proven that his life gets much Wilder than anything that inspired Reynolds' breakout role. One...

Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator (1987)
Predators Is Still the Most Underrated Sequel in the Franchise
Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator (1987)
After watching his comrades be hunted and torn down by an alien hunter, the human prey is ready to fight back. To throw off the hunter’s heat vision, the human has stripped off his shirt and smeared mud over his muscled body. He stands in the center of a trap, ready to lure the hunter into one final showdown.

“Do it now!” he bellows, taunting the hunter. “Kill me!”

For most people, the above description recalls an iconic scene from Predator, the 1987 action horror classic directed by John McTiernan, but the human I’m describing is not Major Dutch Schaefer, the hulking special forces agent played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Rather it’s Royce, the decidedly lither mercenary played by Adrien Brody in the 2010 sequel Predators.

Some may argue that this callback captures everything wrong with the later movie. Half of the original’s fun involved watching meatheads like Arnold,...

Jenia Tanaeva in Trailer for Epic Soccer Romance Film 'See You Soon'
"In two months - if you still feel the same, come find me in Saint Petersburg." Vertical Entertainment has released a trailer for an indie romance titled See You Soon, described as a modern day "Cinderella" story about a soccer star falling in love with a single mother from Russia - an homage to Leo McCarey’s An Affair To Remember. A U.S. soccer player suffers a career-threatening injury in an accident in the run-up to the World Cup, and during his recovery embarks on an epic romance. Liam McIntyre stars, with newcomer Russian actress Jenia Tanaeva as his love interest, plus a small cast including Harvey Keitel, Poppy Drayton, Oleg Taktarov, and Carla Abruzzo. This looks as cheesy and as cliche as you might expect, but the globe-spanning scope of it makes it worth a watch. And that bridge jump shot at the end is also worth it.

A few weeks ago, in anticipation of Guardians of the Galaxy's theatrical release, I wrote about the Curse of Tor Johnson, named after the old-school wrestler (and Ed Wood muse) who may have also been responsible for 50 years of terrible performances from professional wrestlers.

Since I wrote for WWE's Monday Night Raw for about six months, I wondered if the presence of Dave Bautista, a former champion, would jinx Guardians' box-office mojo. Three weeks into its theatrical run (and more than $175 million in receipts later), it's safe to say the Curse has been broken.

Comic-con 2013: Fox Brings Hunt the Predator to San Diego
Predators (2010)
The Facebook page for the 2010 movie Predators has been updated with a teaser image for Hunt the Predator, which 20th Century Fox will be bringing to Comic-Con international later this week.

There's something out there waiting for us, and it ain't no man... We're all gonna die! #HuntthePredator"

The photo features the San Diego Gaslamp area, where Sdcc is annually held, as seen through the iconic heat vision of the Predator. It has not yet been revealed what Hunt the Predator pertains to, or what it will include. Many are speculating that a sequel to Predators may be announced, or even an Untitled Predator Reboot. Way back at Comic-Con 2010, Predators producer Robert Rodriguez revealed that a sequel was in the works, but we haven't heard anything about the project since then.

Its also possible that Hunt the Predator is setting up a new video game, or it could just be...

Top Seven Alien Abductions in Cinema and on TV
Are we alone in the universe? Pondering upon the vastness of the universe, we'd have to be incredibly self-centered to think we are the only life form in existence. And although we haven't seen proof of our intergalactic brethren, there have been plenty of films and TV shows about their clandestine (and more demonstrative) visits to Earth.

Now we have an entirely new horrific vision about one of those alien visits and the havoc they cause in Dark Skies. Keri Russell and Josh Hamilton star as the married couple whose life becomes derailed by mysterious happenings caused by a disturbing malevolent force…and it isn't a domestic disturbance by any means. This one is imported. Way imported.

To celebrate the release of Dark Skies this weekend, we have compiled a list of some of the best alien abduction stories we've enjoyed over the years. Come reminisce with us to get...

10 Awesome Things You Didn't Know About Dolph Lundgren
There have been a lot of cool stories to come out of Hollywood in the last couple of years, but for our money one of the coolest is the sudden and unexpected career resurgence of Dolph Lundgren, who came out of nowhere (aka Europe) to reclaim his action star title with his turn as the despicable Gunnar Jensen in 2010's "The Expendables."

Now, Lundgren is kicking it into even higher gear with "Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning," which reunites him with his "Expendables 2" co-star Jean-Claude Van Damme for the sixth (!) installment of their long-running sci-fi series.

All of which got us wondering: What is it about Dolph Lundgren that makes him so cool?

Well, after doing a little research, we discovered the answer: Pretty much everything. With that in mind, we thought we'd present the top 10 Things You Didn't Know About Dolph Lundgren and help reveal the mysteries of the...

10 Great Performances in Average Films
Full credit for this concept belongs to Mark Kermode…

Given the law of averages, it’s fairly common that as film fans we’re far more likely to run into a stinker than we are a new classic, or worse still a underwhelming slice of anti-climax that promised so much more. Quite often that leaves us deciphering a mess and hanging on to small morsels of consolation from an ultimately wasted couple of hours.

The end result of this is that you, on occasion, may stumble across a disproportionately good turn from the only actor in the movie who seemed to be taking their work seriously. You could make a legitimate claim that this is far more worthy than excellent acting in Oscar bait, but such feats are so often ignored and dismissed along with its mediocre surround.

Here is a run down of ten such performances, a rare moment...

Blu-ray Review: Predators
Predators

Stars: Adrien Brody, Alice Braga, Walton Goggin, Oleg Taktarov, Danny Trejo, Louis Ozawa Changchien, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Topher Grace, Laurence Fishburne | Written by Alex Litvak & Michael Finch | Directed by Nimrod Antal

Adrien Brody is perhaps the most unlikely successor to Arnold Schwarzenegger one is liable to imagine. Brody is best known for offbeat and intelligent indie fare, such as Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited or Roman Polanski’s The Pianist, so it is somewhat of a surprise to see his name on the cast list in this latest installment in the Predator series. Less surprising, though no less welcome is Robert Rodriguez’s role as producer. Rodriguez’s name is something of an indicator of quality; generally, he makes good, fun films, ideal for Saturday night viewing and Predators is no exception.

Brody plays a tough as nails mercenary who, in the very first scene, awakes in mid-air while...

Predators Blu-ray Review
Predator is one of the great action movies of the 1980’s. John McTiernan directed the hell out of it, and it is one of the great signature Arnold Schwarzenegger roles. They tried sequelizing it, and then there were the pathetic Alien vs. Predator films – Fox knew there was a franchise here, they just didn’t know how to pull it off. So they hired Robert Rodriguez to produce a new sequel that ignored all the other spin-offs, and to class it up, they ripped off James Cameron by naming it Predators. Nimrod Antal directs Adrian Brody, Danny Trejo, Walton Goggins, Laurence Fishburne, Alice Braga, Topher Grace, Louis Ozawa Changchein, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, and Oleg Taktarov as a group of killers rounded up by Predators, and let loose on an Alien planet to defend themselves. In this case, the hunters become the hunted until they become hunters hunting the hunters who are hunting them.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Predators’ Reboot Plays Better at Home, But Still Disappoints
Chicago – Perhaps it’s because it is so clearly inspired by a retro style of action but Nimrod Antal’s “Predators,” now available on Blu-ray and DVD, plays better at home than it did at the disappointing theatrical screening in the middle of summer 2010. It’s still a bit of a disappointment, but it’s one of those films that’s nowhere near as bad as it could have been and features a few strong set pieces, especially in HD.

Blu-Ray Rating: 3.0/5.0

The opening act of “Predators” is its most accomplished. Antal literally throws us into the action as Royce (Adrien Brody) plummets toward the ground. At the last minute, a parachute opens and slightly softens his landing. Royce is getting his bearings when another body lands to his right and then his left. It’s a human air drop into what resembles the Amazon Rain Forest.

Predators was released...

Predators - Blu-ray Review
A once proud franchise had basically fallen apart. Now it returns again with something more akin to the original. It may not exactly be better than it, but it at least scores points for not being as terrible as the other sequels. Royce (Adrien Brody) wakes up to find himself falling through the air and not knowing how he got in the situation. He.s about to splat when his chute opens and he finds himself in a lush jungle. He finds he.s not alone as drug enforcer Cuchillo (Danny Trejo) is in the jungle and just as confused as he is. They.re nearly killed by Russian solider Nikolai (Oleg Taktarov) but also find soldier Mombasa (Mahershalalhashbaz Ali),...

DVD Releases - October 19th: It's a Rocky, Psycho Night of the Predators in Mirrors
The number of home video releases on October 19th is not as abundant as in recent weeks, and fewer re-released titles means those that are available are much more special. In this batch one Adrien Brody flick competes with another, and at least two independent horror titles are making a splash. Two beloved classic films return in Blu-ray where one is supplemented by a documentary treatment of it.

Also, don't forget to strum & drum out with some tunes from Rob Zombie on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Finally, foreign horror gives us an over-the-top Japanese gorefest, a British zombie flick where the $70 budget was spent on tea and biscuits for the zombies, and Norwegian black metal.

New on DVD & Blu-ray, Week of October 19: 'Predators' and 'Please Give'

It's not often that you'll find films as extremely opposite as the two main theatrical releases heading to home video this week. First up is the testosterone-pumping sci-fi action adventure reboot 'Predators,' starring Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Laurence Fishburne, Danny Trejo, Louis Ozawa Changchien and Mahershalalhashbaz Ali as mercenaries and murderers transported to an alien planet where they're hunted down as prey. It's action -- action -- action. At the other end of the spectrum is 'Please Give,' a gentle comedy of human proportions about life on this planet, starring Catherine Keener, Oliver Platt, Rebecca Hall and Amanda Peet.

‘Predators’ Review
Predators (2010)
Film: ‘Predators’; Director: Nimrod Antal; Cast: Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Oleg Taktarov; Rating:**1/2

When the first ‘Predator’ came in 1987, there was no money to be made on selling computer games based on films. Movies were purely made for the pleasure of cinema or to make money purely from the film rather than the various spin-offs it could generate. Twenty-three years down the line, ‘Predators’ forgets this and ends up becoming nothing but a platform to launch as many possible sequels and computer games.

Comparison with the original is but.

Sdcc 2010: Predators 2 Is Coming Soon!
Robert Rodriguez says Predators 2 is a "Go"IGN got a chance to sit down with writer/director/producer Robert Rodriguez to talk about the possibility of a second Predators movie. Here's what he had to say:

"[The studio] said, 'Let's do some other ones. What other story ideas do you have?'" says the filmmaker. "Because it was like, let's test out the market with this one. They really wanted it to be pretty contained, pretty scaled-back. They didn't want to put too many of the ideas into it that we could save for a second one. So we could see what the appetite was, because the bigger movie would actually be what comes following that. That kind of sets up a new storyline, new location and world, and then you can really go crazy from there."

According to IGN, Rodriguez says he has "an idea" of what he will do with the sequel.

Predators (2010)
Rumor has it that three follow up films, a sequel and two crossovers with the “Alien” franchise, to John McTiernan’s 1987 sci-fi thriller, “Predator,” exist somewhere out there in the ether. I’m convinced this is nothing more than a legend, an old wives’ tale. I don’t believe it. There is only one sequel to that testosterone-filled, suspense-riddled Arnold Schwarzenegger classic and it is Nimrod Antal’s “Predators.”

Royce (Adrien Brody), an ex-us special forces soldier-turned mercenary regains consciousness while hurtling toward a thick blanket of trees below. He has no idea where he is or why. Moments after his parachute springs open he crashes into a dense tropical forest. Gathering himself he discovers a half dozen others that have arrived just as he has. Among them: a Russian Spetsnaz commando (Oleg Taktarov), a Sierra Leonean death squad soldier (Mahershalalhashbaz Ali), a convicted Federal prisoner (Walton Goggins), a Yakuza...
