Dalton's Backstory In Road House 2024 Explained: Why He Hides His Identity & Left UFC Fighting
Image
Dalton's new UFC fighter backstory in Road House 2024 adds depth to his character and sets up a different narrative from the original. Jake Gyllenhaal's Dalton mirrors Swayze's version with a guilty past, showing growth and redemption through his actions in the film. The essence and honor code of both Daltons remain consistent, with each facing conflict in their respective eras but with different personal struggles.

With a new rendition of Road House comes a new origin story, and Jake Gyllenhaal's Dalton comes with an original backstory. Directed by The Bourne Identity's Doug Liman, the modern remake ultimately follows similar beats to the classic 1989 movie, which starred Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott. The 2024 version modernizes certain elements of the story, including Dalton's backstory, though one of the reasons for the new Road House's critical acclaim is that it simultaneously pays homage to the original in the essence of its narrative.

Hell on the Border Review: Legendary Frontier Marshal Gets a Shoddy Western
Ron Perlman, Frank Grillo, David Gyasi, and Michael Aaron Milligan in Hell on the Border (2019)
Hell on the Border is a biographical western about the legendary Deputy U.S. Marshal, Bass Reeves. Born a slave in antebellum Arkansas, Reeves broke racial barriers by becoming the first black marshal west of the Mississippi River. He was an expert tracker, deadly with firearms, and a fierce proponent of the law. Director/writer Wes Miller accurately portrays Reeves' struggle earning his badge; but fails mightily to produce a cohesive film. Hell on the Border wastes a veteran cast of Hollywood stalwarts, has shoddy editing, and a dismal production design. Bass Reeves has a story that needs to be told. Hell on the Border shines a spotlight on the lawman, but fails in almost every other regard.

David Gyasi stars as Bass Reeves. The film opens in 1875 with Reeves as a posseman in Indian Territory near Fort Smith, Arkansas. He does the legwork apprehending mouthy cattle rustler, Charlie Storm...

‘Armageddon America’ DVD Review
Stars: Dina Meyer, Diane Ladd, AnnaLynne McCord, Gary Heavin, Mike Norris, Marshall R. Teague, India Eisley, Aliya Astaphan, Rich Bentz, Jonny Cruz, Chuck Huber, Giovannie Cruz, Spencer Neville, Carey Scott, Alex Jones | Written by Gary Heavin | Directed by Mike Norris

Originally entitled AmeriGeddon, Armageddon America is the second collaboration between director, and son of action superstar Chuck Norris, Mike Norris and writer/producer and self-made millionaire, Gary Heavin – who seems to be on a mission to create films that promote “all-American” Christian values, with an underlying “all-American” gung-ho action movie aethestic.

I’ll be honest I was expecting a Christian-themed movie when I popped the Armageddon America DVD in, instead we’ve got a whole new breed of movie here – replacing Christian propaganda with jingoistic, right-wing, anti-government propaganda! The film offers a, thankfully, fictional depiction of a future where a globalist terrorist organization, aligned with the United Nations, works to...

Blu-ray Review: Road House (Shout Select)
Though I’m sure it wasn’t the first, Road House is one of the first action movies I can remember that was equally enjoyed by male and female. Fresh off of the success of Dirty Dancing, Patrick Swayze stepped up to play badass bar bouncer Dalton, an expert at his craft, but still a stranger in a strange land. Based on reputation alone, Dalton is hired by the owner of a notorious bar called the Double Deuce. It seems the bar has been taken over by the seedy elements that haunt it, and so it’s time for Dalton to clean it up. When he realizes that the it’s the town that houses the bar that is the root of the corruption, Dalton calls in his good friend and mentor Wade Garrett, played cooler and badder-assed than ever by Sam Elliott, to help him tear it to the ground.

Babylon 5: 14 alternatives to a straight reboot
There are plenty of interesting directions a return to the Babylon 5 universe could take. Here are a few suggestions...

I read somewhere that J.M. Straczynski writes every day. That’s not surprising given his extensive body of work for television, motion pictures, novels and comics. He is best known for Babylon 5, of course. I remember what a lot of people used to say about Babylon 5, “How much can happen on a space station?” Well, a lot actually! And after five seasons of the original series, a bunch of made-for-tv movies and a couple of spin-offs, there are still plenty of stories left to tell.

That is why I was excited recently to read that Joe (apparently, he thinks you’re cool if you just call him Joe) was going back to work on Babylon 5. My excitement soon turned to dread when I found out that...

Patrick Swayze and Kelly Lynch in Road House (1989)
Road House Remake Gets Fast and Furious Director Rob Cohen
Patrick Swayze and Kelly Lynch in Road House (1989)
Continuing their notion that nothing is sacred in Hollywood, MGM is once again reaching back into their vaults for another remake of a cult classic. After successfully destroying RoboCop and Red Dawn with shitty reboots, the studio is now going after the Patrick Swayze camp classic Road House, with The Fast and the Furious and xXx director Rob Cohen stepping into helm this new take on an 80s action staple.

The outrageous nature of the original is what made it so beloved by fans of the genre. And no one can ever replace Patrick Swayze. So, we can only assume that screenwriter Michael Stokes is approaching this as a more straightforward, gritty action thriller. Which might actually work for Road House '15.

The original story follows Dalton, a tough bouncer with a mysterious past who is called upon to tame and protect a dirty Missouri bar. There, he becomes the...

Timothy Hutton on Leverage Season 5: To the Future...
What can fans expect from Leverage Season 5, which premieres this Sunday night on TNT? Who better to ask than the brains behind Leverage Inc., Mr. Timothy Hutton?

I sat in last week on a conference call with the star and have posted the following excerpts from the enlightening interview, which touched on upcoming guest stars, themes and the most pressing topic of all: Sophie's real name.

-------------------------------------------

What can we expect in Season Five?

The Leverage team has officially moved to Portland where we film the show. So they've left Boston, and what it's allowed the writers to do is use all these amazing locations around Portland and just outside the city for storylines.

Another thing about season five is that the team have really come a lot closer together. And for Nate, with the way that his father died the year [in the Leverage Season 4 finale] I think it's kind of made him someone...
