10 Horror Movies That Deserve A Modern Reboot
Image
Several iconic horror movies from earlier decades just don’t hold up to today’s standards, which often makes them get overlooked by modern audiences. At the time of their release, they might have been groundbreaking, but with their limited technology and simpler storytelling, a lot of them can easily feel outdated nowadays. Additionally, older horror films often relied on implied scares and slow build-ups, which is why they don't really hold the attention of today’s viewers.

Modern audiences want a faster pace, more exciting horrors, and complex characters. Plus, certain themes from old-school movies just don’t click with the way we see the world now. That’s where new adaptations come in. From Re-Animator to Cannibal Holocaust, there are quite a few iconic horror movies that deserve a modern reboot. If done right, these titles could get a fresh spin while honoring the originals' legacy, giving them...

‘Reality’ Review: Sydney Sweeney Stuns in Fact-Based Single-Room Whistleblower Thriller
Image
A young woman sits in a gray office — boxed in by her cubicle desk — as Fox News announces that Donald Trump has just fired FBI director James Comey, ostensibly for his investigation into how Russian interference in the 2016 election likely worked in the 45th president’s favor. Twenty-five days later, the same woman arrives back at her house in Augusta, Georgia to find two FBI agents with a search warrant for her property. She doesn’t look surprised. Within 80 minutes, this ex-Air Force member and Nsa translator will have received the harshest ever sentence for the unauthorized release of government information to the media.

The woman — blond bun, denim shorts, a fresh and unassuming demeanor — is Reality Winner. Tina Satter’s fascinating directorial debut takes her startling indiscretion and spins it into something of a horror movie about the repercussions of Doing The Right Thing in the face of the...

Rewind: ‘Night of the Creeps’ Review
Stars: Jason Lively, Tom Atkins, Steve Marshall, Jill Whitlow, Wally Taylor, Allan Kayser, Ken Heron, Alice Cadogan | Written and Directed by Fred Dekker

Fred Dekker, writer and director of this fun-loving and enjoyably-daft B-movie homage, had a strangely short career as a director. Oddly though, he is responsible for two films that I, and many others, really love. Night of the Creeps being one of them, and the other one being a Halloween-staple for me, 1987’s The Monster Squad. Dekker wrote the script in just a week for this film, and it is a good script that in many ways feels ahead of its time. It’s quite unusual how little credit Dekker has received for his work (his only other feature film is Robocop 3) because two of his films are cult favourites, and truly entertaining slices of horror fun. A definite inspiration to many similar films that would follow through the years,...

The Gumball Rally
Cars! Cars! Cars! What climate accord, when we’re celebrating the internal combustion engine! One of the best of the breezy ’70s action comedies, this cross-country road race picture gave us early looks at Gary Busey and Raul Julia in the midst of an always-amusing ensemble of car crazies, out to go from Manhattan to the Pacific in less than two days, at speeds up 175 mph! No 55 speed limit, no catalytic converters!
