Exclusive: Indican Pictures has acquired One Moment, a family comedy starring the late Danny Aiello, with plans to release it in theaters in May and on VOD in July.

One Moment tells the story of middle-aged siblings struggling to manage their lives and careers while also caring for their recently widowed aging father, Joe (Aiello). Joe, demanding and difficult, stubbornly believes he is still capable of running his own life which leads to sad, but sometimes hilarious situations. Although at odds on how to best care for Joe in his final years, the family is united in wanting to ensure his well-being and help him find peace of mind—without them losing their own.

Indie comedy Golden Arm has rounded out its cast with Dot-Marie Jones, Eugene Cordero, Ron Funches as well as Dawn Luebbe (HBO’s High Maintenance), Ahmed Bharoocha (Adult Swim’s Dream Corp LLC), and Olivia Rose Stambouliah. They join previously announced stars Mary Holland and Betsy Sodaro. Maureen Bharoocha is directing the film, which is currently before cameras in Oklahoma. The buddy comedy follows a tough lady trucker who trains her timid best friend to compete in the National Ladies Arm Wrestling Championship. Jones will play Big Sexy, the rough-and-tumble mentor who puts her trainees through a rigorous schooling in order to create a winner. Amazon announces its new original drama series, Mad Dogs, will premiere on Friday, January 22 on Prime Video in the Us, UK, Germany and Austria. Executive Producer Cris Cole created the Mad Dogs TV show based on his UK series of the same name.

Mad Dogs features the reunion of a group of old college buddies, who are all at crossroads in their lives. The Mad Dogs cast stars: Steve Zahn as Cobi; Michael Imperioli as Lex; Billy Zane as Milo; Romany Malco as Gus; and Ben Chaplin as Joel. Also starring are: Phil Davis as Lawrence; Maria Botto as Sophia; Adria Tennor as Abby: and Allison Tolman as Rochelle.

Horror comedy Smothered is written and directed by actor turned director John Schneider. Yes, you did read that correctly… Actor John Schneider, who many will know from family-friendly productions and his roles as Bo Duke on Dukes of Hazzard and more recently Jonathan Kent, aka Superman’s dad, on Smallville, has turned his hand to writing and directing in more recent years but who knew he had a penchant for penning horror? Admittedly he has had roles in low-budget monster movies such as Super Shark, Snow Beast and Lake Placid 2 but I had no idea he was such a horror fan – he certainly has to be to create such a love letter to the horror community as Smothered.

We’re back with another edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Casting News for Recovery: “Kirby Bliss Blanton (The Green Inferno, Project X) and Samuel Larsen (“Glee”) have been cast in the upcoming thriller “Recovery”, starting production this summer. The film follows Blanton’s character on the night of her high school graduation after her iPhone is stolen and tracked down with a “find my iPhone” app to a house where the demented tenants plan on kidnapping her and making her part of the family. Alex Shaffer (Win Win) and James Landry Hébert (Two Step, Gangster Squad) are also on board to star.

Described as the horror version of The Expendables, "Dukes of Hazzard" star John Schneider's Smothered is noteworthy for boasting the largest number of horror icons ever to grace the screen at the same time, which is a claim that certainly grabs hold of our attention.

Fairlight Films has released a new behind-the-scenes promo for the upcoming horror-comedy Smothered, which is written and directed by Hollywood legend John Schneider (Smallville, Nip/Tuck), and sees horror icons Kane Hodder (Freddy vs. Jason, Jason X), Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects, Repo! The Genetic Opera), Don Shanks (Halloween 5, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer), and R.A Mihailoff (Leatherface : Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Pumpkinhead 2), playing themselves in a scenario that sees them attending a small, disheartening horror-convention on Friday the 13th.
