'Chicago P.D.' Loses Another Major Actor Ahead of Season 13
Image
Another shake-up is headed to Intelligence—and this one stings. Toya Turner has exited Chicago P.D. and won’t be returning as Officer Kiana Cook when the long-running NBC drama returns for its thirteenth season. The reason for her departure hasn’t been made public, but Turner released a short statement confirming her exit: “I’m grateful for the time I had bringing Kiana to life. Thank you to everyone who welcomed me so warmly.”

Turner’s departure is another blow to Chicago P.D., which is still feeling the effects of Tracy Spiridakos’s goodbye in the Season 11 finale and Jesse Lee Soffer’s earlier exit as Jay Halstead. It also comes as sister series Chicago Fire prepares for Season 14 without Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett. Yes, they are indeed dropping like flies.

A strong new presence on the team, Kiana worked closely with Marina Squerciati’s Kim Burgess...

“My time on Chicago P.D. has come to a close. This show challenged me, sharpened me, and revealed what I’m made of. I’ve evolved through this experience, both as an artist and in my craft, and I’m walking away with depth, clarity, and momentum for whatever comes next.”

She added, “To the cast and crew: thank you for the warmth, the laughter, and the generosity you brought every day. It was an honor to share the screen and the set with such talent.”

Exclusive: In another One Chicago shocker, Toya Turner has exited from NBC’s Chicago P.D., and will not appear as Kiana Cook when the police procedural returns for its 13th season. The reason for her departure after one season is unknown.

Kiana Cook's backstory was explained in Chicago Pd (Here's what we know)
Image
Chicago Pd just revealed Cook's family backstory, and it's definitely not what anyone expected!

Caution: This article contains Spoilers for Chicago Pd Season 12 Episode 9

Season 12 of Chicago Pd had a stunning start as new Intelligence Unit member Martel (Victoria Cartagena) was shot and killed while she and Ruzek were hunting some dealers. Ruzek got into a chase with the shooters and was joined by patrol officer Kiana Cook (Toya Turner), who proved herself well in the chase.

A few episodes later, Cook helped the team on a murder case. That impressed Voight enough to arrange for Cook to join the Unit. She's done well with her street-smart instincts and is not afraid to speak her mind. That included chewing out Torres when he hid how he was romantically involved with a suspect, which put Cook in danger.

Chicago Pd just dropped a bombshell revelation about its new member
Image
Chicago Pd got back to business with an exciting season 12 winter premiere. There wasn't much in the way of overarching storylines, but the episode "Friends and Family" presented a tight story and some crucial information about the newest Iu member, Kiana Cook (Toya Turner).

Cook has quietly established herself as an important component of the team throughout season 12, but the winter premiere gave her a chance to shine in a tense case involving a kidnapping. Cook not only navigated the ransom expertly, but she provided the ransom money herself.

Kiana Cook's mother is extremely wealthy Chicago P.D. -- "Water and Honey" Episode 12005 -- Pictured: (l-r) Marina Squerciati as Officer Kim Burgess, Toya Turner as Kiana Cook

How? Well, the police officer decided to bite the bullet and divulge some information about her family. Cook revealed that her mother, played by Marie-Francoise Theodore, is extremely wealthy. While she grew up...

6 More Filmmaking Tips from Werner Herzog
6 More Filmmaking Tips From Werner Herzog

If there’s anyone who deserves a second Filmmaking Tips column, it’s Werner Herzog. It’s been almost four years since we posted the first list of his advice to fellow soldiers of cinema, and there’s just so much more to learn from the legend. He actually has his own Rogue Film School, where he directly imparts his wisdom to students during weekend seminars. He also leads a new online course at MasterClass, which began this week, where he talks about all facets of fiction and nonfiction filmmaking in a six-hour video course. He does many interviews (this week he participated in a Reddit Ama) and shares his philosophies and strategies often. Not even two of these columns properly sums it all up.

So, as is often the case, this is just an introduction to some essential tips from a unique artist and craftsman. Herzog...

'The Repass' Is A Surreal Tale Of Young Creole Girl Who Loses Brother In Katrina (Fundraising)
It should not come as a surprise that we get inundated with filmmaker requests to post fundraising campaigns for film projects they’re developing. After a while they all seem to start to look and sound alike, unless there’s a name attached to it that gets our attention, like Spike Lee (and let’s face it, it was because of his fame that his recent Kickstarter campaign was so successful), or, what’s even better, if the project itself is an interesting and intriguing one.And fortunately, that’s very much the case here, with the feature film The Repass, by writer, producer and director Rae Shaw, starring Marie-Françoise Theodore and Donzaleigh Abernathy.A former student at the...
