Bella Ramsey is making history for the non-binary community. On Tuesday, the non-binary actor earned a nomination in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for their role in The Last of Us Season 2 — and with the nod, they become the first non-binary person to earn more than one Emmy nomination.
Ramsey was first nominated in this category in 2023 for their role as Ellie in the show’s first season.

Louis Theroux’s return to the West Bank after 14 years reveals a landscape transformed by extremism. His 2011 documentary “The Ultra Zionists” captured what seemed like a fringe movement driven by religious nationalism. Today, that fringe has become mainstream political reality. The numbers tell a stark story: over 700,000 settlers now occupy Palestinian territory, representing roughly 10% of Israel’s entire Jewish population. This massive expansion has occurred while international law continues to classify these settlements as illegal.
The documentary arrives at a particularly volatile moment. Following the October 7 Hamas attacks and the ensuing Gaza war, settler violence and displacement activities have reached unprecedented levels. Theroux’s investigation reveals how what was once considered radical ideology has gained substantial political backing within Israel’s far-right coalition government. The film focuses on key figures within the settler movement, allowing them to articulate their vision for Palestinian displacement with chilling clarity.

Tom Cruise is known for doing it all for the audience, stunts, action, drama, everything. He always gives it 100% on set, and Michael Cera knows that firsthand.
In a new appearance on theLouis Theroux Podcast(via Entertainment Weekly), Cera recalled a moment when he was trolled by Tom Cruise for talking on the set. The Phoenician Scheme actor explained that he had never met Cruise, and that, during a taping for a segment for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, he was talking while Cruise was filming. That led the Mission: Impossible star to playfully scold him.
"They did funny intro movie video things that they'd pre-taped," Cera explained about the moment. "And Tom Cruise did one where he was playing his character from Tropic Thunder, the movie mogul guy," referring to Cruise's movie producer Les Grossman. There might be no other actor with more of a reputation for awkwardness than Michael Cera. So it’s probably best not to put him in any situation that will enhance that. But that’s exactly what Tom Cruise of all people did.
While Michael Cera and Tom Cruise have never made a movie together (what would that even be about?!), the two did both appear at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, where Cruise made a cameo as Les Grossman and later helped close the show with Best Movie, and Cera co-presented Best Wtf Moment. It was here that Cera ran afoul of Cruise during a pre-taped video. As he recalled on Louis Theroux’s podcast (via EW), “The first moment I had with him, I arrived, they were shooting, and I was talking to the writer…We were just kind of mumbling while they were shooting, but they could hear us.

The Harry Potterfranchise is a ticket to stardom for many actors, but one acclaimed performer decided not to join the Wizard World. Adapting the books by J.K. Rowling, the Harry Potter film franchise began with Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone in 2001. Across eight films, a generation of youngsters would grow up alongside the students of Hogwarts.
The movies would prove to be an instant box office success, and would even spawn a host of copycats throughout the Aughts. When the original series eventually ended in 2011, there was a Harry Potter-shaped hole left in the world of fantasy, but it was quickly filled by the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 2016.
Nearly 10 years after the release of the first Fantastic Beasts movie, Michael Cera appeared on The Louis Theroux Podcastand explained why he turned down a chance to appear. "I don’t think I have a franchise resistance,...

Michael Cera is opening up about why he tried to limit his fame earlier in his career, and how it actually led him to turn down a role in a major franchise.
The actor made a recent appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast, where the host asked him if he has purposefully “resisted franchises” when taking on projects.
“I don’t think I have a franchise resistance. I think I know what you’re referring to,” Cera responded. “I think I turned one down once. Yeah, I did. It was a Harry Potter one, Fantastic Beasts. I don’t even know if I was offered, I think I just declined to engage with it because — well, I think it would be like probably a six-year commitment or something. The Harry Potterfranchise is being rebooted by HBO for television, but the iconic property previously lived on thanks to the Fantastic Beasts film series. Despite featuring Eddie Redmayne, fresh off his Best Actor Oscar win, Fantastic Beasts failed to get off the ground after the three movies got increasingly poor reviews. However, an alternate reality would have seen The Phoenician Scheme star Michael Cera featured in the Harry Potter offshoot as a lead.
During an interview with Louis Theroux, Michael Cera revealed that he declined to engage in talks to star in the Harry Potter spin-off franchise Fantastic Beasts. He does not reveal what role he was up for, but it is possible that it was one of the main characters. Cera claims it was around a six-year commitment, so it could have been for Newt Scamander (Redmayne) himself. Other possibilities include Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) and Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller...

While discussing actors he considers his peers on a podcast recently, Oscar-winner Sean Penn took the conversation in a somewhat unexpected direction. He didn’t mention fellow Oscar-winner Daniel Day Lewis, to whom many often compare him. He reached back to a very long ago co-star with whom he says he still has a very friendly relationship.
“Tom Cruise…he is a guy who pursues excellence on a very high level,” Penn replied.
Penn quickly addressed the apples-to-oranges questions some might raise about the differences between the kind of indie films he makes and the blockbusters that Cruise does.
“Now, I understand certain kinds of movies people appreciate more than other kinds of movies,” he said, not identifying which was which, “but this is a very good actor who’s also an extraordinarily committed craftsman.”
Penn continued: “Those movies don’t get made on that level — whether you love ’em...

Sean Penn says he would without a doubt work with Woody Allen again, whose adoptive daughter accused him of sexual molestation, as he sees the filmmaker as innocent given the fact that he has not been “proven guilty.”
“I just think that whatever is the worst of people’s suspicions about him, just check them with the facts separate from the [#MeToo] movement and all those who benefited from that,” Penn said during an appearance Tuesday on “The Louis Theroux Podcast,” adding that he loves his 1999 film with Allen, “Sweet and Lowdown,” which earned him an Oscar nomination.

Sean Penn came to Woody Allen’s defense during a recent interview on “The Louis Theroux Podcast.” Allen directed Penn in 1999’s “Sweet and Lowdown,” for which the latter earned an Oscar nomination for best actor. Penn starred as a jazz guitarist who falls in love with a mute woman, played by Samantha Morton.
“I love that movie. I’d work with him in a heartbeat if it was the right thing,” Penn said about Allen, who has been accused of sexual abuse by his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow.
“Do I think he has a bad rep?” Penn then asked, referring to the allegations against Allen. “Look, with these things… I don’t know anyone well enough to say 100% this didn’t happen or that didn’t happen or something. Bella Ramseyis one of the biggest stars on television right now. Their work in the hit HBO series The Last of Us has been recognized by awards ceremonies for Season 1 and with Season 2 centering on Ramsey's character, Ellie Williams, chances are that they will find the same success. The problem is that Ramsey identifies as non-binary, so putting them into "Best Actress" categories doesn't necessarily fit Ramsey's gender identity. It is an issue that many non-binary performers have been facing in recent years.
Award ceremonies are not up-to-date with the proper category labels and those who have changed their practices have done away with gendered categories all together. But Ramsey doesn't think that's the solution. In a recent interview on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Ramsey shared that they think that it is important to make sure that recognition for female-identified actors must be preserved within the industry. Bella Ramsey has stated that gendered acting categories remain necessary to ensure recognition for women in film and television, even as they question how performers outside binary identities are meant to be included in such systems.

“The Last of Us” star Bella Ramsey, who could see themselves again among the Emmy nominees this year, defended gendered categories for awards ceremonies, saying that it’s important that men and women be recognized separately for their performances.
Ramsey appeared on Monday’s episode of “The Louis Theroux Podcast,” when host Louis Theroux mentioned that there was apparently some outrage over Ramsey being nominated for an Emmy as an actress, despite Ramsey, who identifies by they/them pronouns, being nonbinary.
“I think it’s so important that that’s preserved, as well. Editor’s Note: About 15 years ago, celebrated documentarian Louis Theroux headed to the occupied West Bank territory for a tell-all documentary. This week, he returns for the BBC’s Louis Theroux: The Settlers, which launches in a few days’ time. Writing exclusively for Deadline, Theroux details how he took a “perpetrator focused” approach to the doc, discusses the complexities of covering the region and argues why the “world has amply demonstrated its ability to withstand what is happening in the West Bank.” He also pays tribute to Oscar winner No Other Land and questions why the pic was accused of antisemitism.
Late last year, I spent three weeks travelling up and down the occupied West Bank — the region on the Eastern edge of Israel, which for nearly 60 years has been under Israeli military occupation. I was there documenting the world of the Israeli ultra-nationalists who have settled there, illegally under international law.

Armie Hammer is revealing how he ate part of an animal’s heart once on a hunting trip.
The disgraced actor, who has faced previous allegations of cannibalistic fantasies, was recently asked on The Louis Theroux Podcast if it’s true that he “cut the heart out of the animal and ate it while still warm?”
“No, you don’t eat the whole heart. One of the traditions is you take a bite out of the heart,” Hammer explained to host Louis Theroux of the hunting tradition. “You’ve got all your buddies around you, they’re goading you on.”
The Call Me by Your Name actor continued, “It’s sort of like an almost overly charged male rite of passage when you go hunting for the first time. Everyone that I know who went hunting for their first time had to do something similar.”

Armie Hammer has finally addressed the messages and allegations that caused his downfall in Hollywood. In an interview with Louis Theroux on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Hammer opened up about the texts in which he claimed to be “100% a cannibal” and the accusations that led to his industry exile.
Back in 2021, Hammer faced allegations of sexual and emotional abuse from multiple women, which triggered a scandal that kept him out of the public eye. Some of the most disturbing claims included messages where he allegedly expressed a desire to “cook and eat” a woman’s ribs. These texts, revealed in the documentary House of Hammer, also contained statements about biting and branding a partner, as well as a claim that he once cut out a living animal’s heart and ate it while it was still warm.
In the podcast interview, Hammer insisted the messages were taken out of context.

Louis Theroux is returning to the West Bank for his latest documentary.
In a BBC show titled Louis Theroux: The Settlers, the documentarian will travel to the disputed territory 15 years on from his doc The Ultra-Zionists.
There, he will meet some of the large and growing ultra-nationalist community of Israeli settlers. The settlements are held to be illegal under international law yet they have been protected by the army, the police, and the Israeli government for years. Since the devastating Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7 when 1,200 Israelis were killed and circa-250 kidnapped, the settlers have been emboldened to expand their areas of control by pursuing a campaign of violence and forced expulsion against local Palestinian communities.
The BBC said Theroux will “embed himself in the West Bank,” meeting prominent settlers and travelling around the territory in a similar vein to much of his previous work. His indie, Mindhouse, is producing.

Louis Theroux On Coaxing Elon Musk, His Spotify Podcast & Why He’ll Keep Making Programs For The BBC
The fourth season of Louis Theroux’s podcast launches today with a free-wheeling chat between the off-beat British documentary maker and Hollywood star Willem Dafoe. Famous names Armie Hammer, Jade Thirlwall, Sharon Horgan and Jamie Oliver also appear in this run of The Louis Theroux Podcast, but given Theroux’s propensity for choosing complicated, divisive interview subjects, Deadline wonders if he is still attempting to attract a certain Elon Musk.
“I would 100% have him on,” says Theroux, talking from his London home via Zoom late last week. “I remember I half tongue-in-cheek and half for real sent a tweet out — and it was a tweet because it was before X — directed at him, saying, ‘Come on, Elon, come on the podcast. What are you afraid of?’ I’m sure it got lost in the cascade of his mentions, but he’s that kind of a guy that you never know.

Three types of people get their own documentary: those who have done remarkable things, those who have done disturbing things, and those who have been murdered. Lily Phillips falls under the disturbing category, with the British woman making waves online around one event. Released on Dec 7, 2024, on Josh Pieters' YouTube Channel, I Slept with 100 Men in One Day should clue people into what to expect.
While it is apparent that the subject matter would be instantly controversial, the documentary got into the details and painted a rather harrowing picture of the marathon. We will examine the documentary's content, the harsh realities of the industry it showcases, and the public response to the work.
Who Is Lily Phillips and What Is Her Documentary?
Lily Phillips is a 23-year-old OnlyFans influencer who started her career in 2020 after initially attending college to study nutrition before finding money in adult content to be her focus.

Filmmaker Asif Kapadia issued an apology for a series of X posts that were accused of being antisemitic. The posts already led to the Grierson Trust rescinding its offer of patronage to the “Amy” and “Senna” director.
“I’m mortified by the hurt and offense that some of my retweets have caused. I now understand that they will be seen by many as antisemitic, or in the case of one even justifying violence. That was not my intention,” Kapadia said in a statement, according to multiple media reports. “Like many, I feel passionate about the fate of the Palestinian and Lebanese people and the suffering they have endured over the years, but I am equally passionate about all anti-racism and condemn all forms of antisemitism. I unequivocally apologize for these ill-judged reposts which were posted in haste with a lack of due consideration.”
Kapadia did not respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

Senna and Diego Maradona filmmaker Asif Kapadia has had his appointment as a patron of UK documentary charity The Grierson Trust revoked following criticism of his posts on social media.
In a statement, a Trust spokesperson said: “Since the Grierson Trust announced that Asif Kapadia had been appointed as one of our patrons, some social media posts shared by him have been drawn to our attention which are anti-Semitic.

Update: The Grierson Trust has confirmed news broken by Deadline earlier today that it has withdrawn Asif Kapadia’s patronage following a backlash over the director sharing what it calls “antisemitic” social media posts. In a statement, the organization said:
“Since the Grierson Trust announced that Asif Kapadia had been appointed as one of our patrons, some social media posts shared by him have been drawn to our attention which are antisemitic. As a result, at an 8am board meeting this morning, we took the decision to rescind his role as patron of the Trust.
When we made the decision to appoint Mr Kapadia, the board was not aware of these posts, some of which appear to be no longer available, and we are sorry that our due diligence was not thorough enough. The Grierson Trust is deeply committed to promoting both freedom of speech and diversity and inclusion in the documentary industry.
