Season 2 of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, the continuation of the Emmy Award-winning Wizards of Waverly Place, premieres with two episodes Friday, Sept. 12, on Disney Channel (7:00 p.m. Edt/Pdt) and Disney Channel On Demand. All episodes will be available on Disney+ in the U.S. and select international markets on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

“It was about about six, seven years ago,” the British star of screen and stage tells The Hollywood Reporter about the origins of her upcoming film. “I realized that my brothers had absolutely no recollection of their father.”

Fans were left shocked when they learned that 39-year-old Marcel is still legally married to his wife, Rebecca Vieira. The producers defended the casting, with the executive producer Mike Spencer insisting Marcel was a single man and that fans should "give the guy a break."

Chatting to The Sun, the producer clarified that "He had a wife! Marcel is single. He's ready to mingle." He added that Marcel, who was previously in the hip-hop band Blazin Squad, was "a really good guy" who was "looking for love." Dikembe Mutombo, the shot-blocking specialist whose Hall of Fame career included being named NBA Defensive Player of the Year four times over 18 seasons and who was an ambassador for the sport after his retirement, has died. He was 58.

The NBA said today that he died of brain cancer in Atlanta but did not give any other details. He had been diagnosed in 2022.

“Dikembe Mutombo was simply larger than life,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. “On the court, he was one of the greatest shot blockers and defensive players in the history of the NBA. Off the floor, he poured his heart and soul into helping others. … “There was nobody more qualified than Dikembe to serve as the NBA’s first Global Ambassador.”

Wizards Of Waverly Place was among a collection of Disney shows, like Hannah Montana and Sonny With A Chance, that catapulted their female lead to superstardom.

Selena Gomez became a pop star alongside her Disney career, then transitioned into equally popular roles as an adult – Only Murders In The Building, in which she stars alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short, has been renewed for a fifth series.

Created by Todd J Greenwald, Wizards followed Gomez as Alex Russo, the middle child in a family that also included older brother Justin, played by David Henrie, and Max, played by Jake T. Austin. David DeLuise and Maria Canals-Baria played parents Jerry and Theresa. The overarching plot saw the children compete between themselves in a competition to determine which of them would keep their powers.

The trailer for the sequel series, which was released Tuesday, gives a glimpse at the shenanigans that Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) is going to cause once Alex Russo (Selena Gomez), drops her off with Justin, begging her brother for help training the prodigé.

According to Alex, the “fate of the world” is in Billie’s hands, but before she can take on a task like saving the wizard world, she needs a talented older wizard to show her the ropes — and a family who will pick her back up again no matter how many mistakes she makes.

Filming’s expected to get underway in May 2024 on the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel, Wizards, which just received a series order from Disney Channel and Disney+. David Henrie will reprise his role as Justin Russo as a series regular, with Emmy nominee Selena Gomez appearing in a guest-starring role in the series premiere as Alex.

After it was reported that a Wizards of Waverly Place sequel series was in early development, it's now been revealed (per Deadline) that the show has been officially ordered to series. Disney Channel has greenlit a follow-up series with the working title of simply Wizards. It has been confirmed that original series stars Selena Gomez and David Henrie will be back to reprise their roles, and they will both be on board as executive producers. Series writers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas will also be executive producing with Gary Marsh. Two months after handing out a pilot order for Wizards, Ayo Davis’ Disney Branded Television banner has handed out a formal series order for the sequel series. The show will premiere this year on both Disney Channel and Disney+.

Wizards production will begin next month in L.A. and feature Selena Gomez and David Henrie reprising their roles as Alex and Justin Russo. Both will exec produce the series. Henrie will lead the cast of series regulars alongside Max Matenko (Platonic), who plays Justin’s youngest son, Milo. He joins the previously announced cast that also includes Janice LeAnn Brown (Bunk’d) in the lead role as a young, powerful wizard Billie; Alkaio Thiele (Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends) as Justin’s oldest son, Roman; and Mimi Gianopulos (Rutherford Falls) as Justin’s wife, Giada.
