Exclusive: Kristin Scott Thomas enjoys how she provided Scarlett Johansson, the star of her directorial feature debut My Mother’s Wedding, with a humungous Royal Navy warship to symbolize a woman working high up “in a man’s world.” With a wry smile, she says, “I think that my Naval links helped a lot.”
During a sit down with the grand dame of Apple TV+’s Slow Horses and BAFTA winner for Four Weddings and a Funeral, Scott Thomas also exclusively reveals that she’ll return to the stage in a West End revival of The Cherry Orchard, who – in opposition to Johanssen’s character – will see her play a woman who’s been brought low in that man’s world.

A dysfunctional family gathering for a special occasion (be it a wedding or a funeral) has long served as a ripe dramatic backdrop for a reason. What better excuse to bring together a motley crew of characters who know exactly how best to push one another’s buttons and dredge up long-simmering resentments in the process? If Kristin Scott Thomas’ “My Mother’s Wedding” never quite reaches the heights of that well-worn genre, it is not for lack of trying. Equal parts Anton Chekhov and Richard Curtis, her directorial debut ends up being a sweet if rather modest family affair.
The premise of “My Mother’s Wedding” is as straightforward as its title suggests. Sisters Katharine (Scarlett Johansson), Victoria (Sienna Miller) and Georgina (Emily Beecham) gather for one weekend at their childhood home to bear witness to their mother’s third wedding. Twice-widowed Diana (Scott Thomas) has seemingly found love again. Only,...

Kristin Scott Thomas‘s first foray into directing is surprisingly personal.
“It was about about six, seven years ago,” the British star of screen and stage tells The Hollywood Reporter about the origins of her upcoming film. “I realized that my brothers had absolutely no recollection of their father.”
Scott Thomas, the eldest of five children, found herself wanting to make something for her siblings. Her father, an English Royal Navy pilot, died in a flying accident when she was just five. Her mother remarried and had more children with another Navy man, who also passed away in a similar tragedy when Scott Thomas was 11. She used to turn her memories of these two father figures into animated films for her brothers and sisters, but one day, someone suggested she make a feature film instead.

With her directorial debut, My Mother’s Wedding, Kristen Scott Thomas seeks to weave together her characters’ feelings of love, grief, and more into a poignant dramatic tapestry. But what emerges is less a finely woven cloth than a tangle of narrative strands. Starring Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller, and Emily Beecham as three adult daughters reuniting in England for their mother’s third wedding, the film never displays the emotional candor that would have made it feel more than just a show of prestige cosplay.
My Mother’s Wedding opens with the first of several black-and-white animated sequences that point to the memories and griefs of the characters, whose names and occupations are indicated by childlike scrawling on the screen. We meet Katherine (Johansson), a Navy captain, scrolling through old messages from Jack, seemingly a former lover. A wedding in the English countryside serves as the stage, but the primary guests are ghosts. In My Mother’s Wedding, three sisters convene for the third marriage of their mother, Diana, a woman twice made a widow by the British Royal Navy.
The specters of two dead fathers, both pilots lost in service, hang in the air, their absence a palpable presence that has warped the architecture of their daughters’ lives. The sisters arrive: Katherine, a military woman; Victoria, an actress; and Georgina, a nurse. Each carries a distinct version of the family trauma, their personal histories a collection of redacted files and unresolved grief.
The film sets out to ask how the dead steer the living, positioning this weekend reunion as a catalyst for a confrontation with the past. It is a premise promising a tense psychological inquiry into the deterministic nature of loss, a look at how...

From Samantha Stephens on “Bewitched” to Sabrina Spellman on “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” the concept of a TV show about witches is an old (pointed) hat. And it’s not a trend that will soon disappear, if there’s any indication from buzzy shows like the upcoming “Harry Potter” TV series on HBO and the second season of Netflix’s “Wednesday.”
But our historical depictions of witches and interpretations of the pagan beliefs are both steeped in arts and culture. And this means they come with good, bad and even conflicting tropes. When developing a TV show, it’s often up to the creators and their creative teams to decide which way something wiccan is coming for their projects.

Originally debuting under the title Love Dogs, Take From Me (as the film is now known), the feature debut of writer/director West Eldredge, is an atmospheric thriller that seamlessly blends grief, mystery, and psychological tension. At its core, it’s a film about the inescapable weight of loss and the eerie sense that something, or someone, may be lurking just beyond what we perceive. While independent in scale, Take From Me doesn’t look or feel like it, delivering an engrossing narrative and a strong sense of place that lingers long after the credits roll.
The film follows John, played by Ethan McDowell, a man haunted by grief and struggling to move forward. When a mysterious young woman purchases his old farmhouse,...

Kristin Scott Thomas is stepping behind the camera for the first time, directing My Mother’s Wedding, a film she co-wrote with her husband, John Micklethwait. Inspired by her own family’s experiences, the story centers on three sisters who return home for their mother’s third wedding.
Sienna Miller, Emily Beecham, and Scarlett Johansson lead the cast, with Scott Thomas herself playing the mother, Diana Frost. Each daughter has a very different life—one is a nurse, another a Hollywood actress, and the third a Royal Navy officer.
As they gather for the big day, old wounds resurface, and the family is forced to confront their past. Unexpected wedding guests only add to the chaos.
This marks the third time Scott Thomas and Johansson have played mother and daughter on screen, following The Horse Whisperer (1998) and The Other Boleyn Girl (2008).

Maya Jama returned to host Season 2 of ITV2’s dating reality competition set in South Africa and the end of the premiere saw a major bombshell entering the villa.
The new series is already packed with Islanders from the past, like Kaz Crossley (Season 4), Luca Bish (Season 8), Gabby Allen (Season 3), India Reynolds (Season 5), Nas Majeed (Season 6), Scott Thomas (Season 2), Marcel Somerville (Season 3), and Curtis Pritchard (Season 5).
But what is Love Island without a bombshell entering the villa to shake things up? That is why the first bombshell of an All-Stars season had to be major, and returning to the villa was Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.

Days of our Lives could have simply written Paul Telfer’s character Xander Cook as a one-dimensional villain. However, the show’s creative team recognized—due in no small part to Telfer’s talents as an actor—his potential as a romantic leading man. In fact, the pairing of Telfer and Linsey Godfrey, who plays Sarah, is one of soap opera’s most popular duos. Affectionately dubbed “Xarah” by the couple’s fan base, the husband and wife were almost separated forever by Xander’s unbalanced mother, Fiona, played by Serena Scott Thomas. Now, a new hurdle awaits the two on Friday’s episode when Xander and a wheelchair-bound Sarah confront another obstacle related to her recovery. TV Insider caught up with Telfer and Godfrey at the recent annual Day of Days fan event in downtown Los Angeles to chat with them about Telfer’s anniversary with the Peacock drama,...

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is the sequel to the hugely popular Disney series, and here’s the trailer for the new series.
Wizards Of Waverly Place was among a collection of Disney shows, like Hannah Montana and Sonny With A Chance, that catapulted their female lead to superstardom.
Selena Gomez became a pop star alongside her Disney career, then transitioned into equally popular roles as an adult – Only Murders In The Building, in which she stars alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short, has been renewed for a fifth series.
Created by Todd J Greenwald, Wizards followed Gomez as Alex Russo, the middle child in a family that also included older brother Justin, played by David Henrie, and Max, played by Jake T. Austin. David DeLuise and Maria Canals-Baria played parents Jerry and Theresa. The overarching plot saw the children compete between themselves in a competition to determine which of them would keep their powers.

Your Tuesday jut got a bit more magical thanks to the first trailer for “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” the upcoming continuation of the beloved Disney Channel original. And if this new look is anything to go by, this upcoming installment promises to have all of the heart and sass of the original 2007 sitcom.
The new installment takes place after the events of the original, which concluded with Alex (Selena Gomez) being named the Russo Family Wizard and Justin (David Henrie) being named Headmaster, a role that allowed him to retain his magic abilities. In the years since this familial battle over who would remain a wizard, Justin has built a normal life for himself with a non-magical wife and two sons. That’s a big reason why he’s shocked to see his sister again with a new young wizard in tow.
