On December 26, 1996, Patsy Ramsey reported her daughter JonBenét Ramsey missing after finding a ransom note demanding $118,000. The six-year-old girl used to appear in local beauty pageants and was kind of a celebrity back then. Just hours later, her father John Ramsey would find the lifeless body of JonBenét in the basement of their home in Boulder, Colorado.

The brutal murder of a little girl within the safety of her home gained significant attention, which really didn’t help in this case. The police and media were quick to jump to the conclusion that the parents did it. 28 years later, the case still remains unsolved.
Academy Award-winning director Joe Berlinger takes a closer look at the case in his Netflix documentary, Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey. Here are some of the details covered in the series.

On December 25, 1996, JonBenét Ramsey, six, was discovered dead in the basement of her family’s Boulder, Colorado, home. The finding occurred just hours after her parents reported her missing, sparking a high-profile inquiry. JonBenét, a young beauty queen, was brutally murdered, with evidence indicating strangling and blunt force trauma.
The initial police response, however, was disorganized—friends and family were permitted to explore the premises, potentially jeopardizing critical evidence. Despite years of investigation, the case remains unsolved, and theories about her death continue to circulate.
Mistakes were made during the investigation into JonBenét’s death. Police did not secure the crime scene, which allowed potential evidence to be tampered with. Suspicion rapidly fell on her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey.
Still, without substantial evidence, theories fluctuated between family conspiracy and an unknown invader. The lack of definitive forensic evidence and the media frenzy exacerbated the mystery and left more questions than answers.

While hardly the greatest sports movie ever made, Youngblood (1986) is beloved in hockey circles for its overly dramatic depiction of Canadian junior hockey. It's a classic tale of good vs. evil, and talent vs. brutality. The film stars Rob Lowe as Dean Youngblood, a sublimely skilled scorer for the Hamilton Mustangs who gets bullied into embracing hockey's dark side, not truly winning until he beats up the opposing team's goon. Patrick Swayze co-stars as Derek Sutton, the Hamilton team captain who shows Youngblood how to navigate hockey culture. The Mustang squad features some other notable names in bit parts, including future NHLers Peter Zezel and Steve Thomas. However, the true superstar was in the net. Youngblood marked the feature film debut of Keanu Reeves as Heaver, the Mustangs' goaltender, and it was a part he seemed destined to play. Reeves would later reunite with Swayze for the Kathryn Bigelow crime drama,...

So this is pretty cool. Star Wars: Episode VII is currently filming in Abu Dhabi, and director J.J. Abrams took some time to make a video offering fans a chance to fly to London (where they're shooting most of the movie) to visit the set, meet the cast, and get a cameo in the movie. Best of all, this contest is part of a charity effort called "Force for Change". Your donation for a chance to be in the movie will fund Unicef’s Innovation Labs, which helps children all around the world. Additionally, even if you don't win the cameo, your donation can still get you cool rewards like t-shirts, posters, and more. The higher the donation level, the more entries you get. Click here to donate, and hit the jump to check out Abrams talking about contest, which also includes a cameo from a new, camel-like alien. Star Wars: Episode VII...

Documentaries on the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, mining uranium and road train drivers traversing the Outback have received funding from Screen Australia.
Other recipients of the International Documentary Program are a second series of ABC-tv.s Redesign My Brain and Death or Liberty, an account of how political radicals exiled to Australia in the 19th century helped to create the world's first true democracy.
All told the agency is investing more than $1.7 million in the five projects, triggering more than $6.8 million worth of production.
.With two single-hour projects, two series and a feature-length project funded this round, it is a strong and diverse finish for the end of the financial year,. said Liz Stevens, Screen Australia senior manager documentary.
.In addition, working with international partners is a great way to grow the pie for Australian producers. These producers will work with American, Irish, English and German broadcasters on some exceptional programs.

People seemed to have a lot more fun on their adventures in 80s movies. Nowadays it's apocalypse this, aliens that, found footage here, found footage there, vampires wanna suck my blood, zombies wanna eat my brains, and "what did we do last night?" Even in bad situations, like being stuck in detention, people in 80s movies made the most of it. You wish you could dance in detention like they did The Breakfast Club! Marty McFly made the anxieties of time travel look like a jolly old time, and being out of breath all the time just meant he was getting in some good cardio.

New Orleans -- A Louisiana appeals court has upheld the murder conviction and life sentence for rapper C-Murder.
C-Murder, whose real name is Corey Miller, was convicted of shooting a teenager to death in 2002.
A three-judge panel from the state's 5th Circuit Court of Appeal on Wednesday rejected Miller's argument that he didn't get a fair trial.
In 2009, a jury convicted Miller of second-degree murder for shooting 16-year-old Steve Thomas during a confrontation at a nightclub.
Miller claims the judge who presided over his trial allowed jurors to hear prejudicial and unsubstantiated testimony that he threatened witnesses to the shooting. He also accused prosecutors of systematically eliminating black people from the jury.
But the 5th Circuit rejected those arguments.
One of Miller's attorneys didn't immediately return a call seeking comment Thursday.

Here's something that popped up on Twitter courtesy The Criterion Cast's Ryan Gallagher: a gallery of clever and very well-designed concert posters inspired by '80s Saturday morning cartoons, created by artist Steve Thomas. Here's the poster for Voltron's legendary gig at the Arus Colosseum:
Their encore was sick that night; Voltron turned into a giant guitar and then played himself. Epic. Be sure to check out Steve's full gallery, where you can also find links to where you can purchase prints.
