The most romantic season of the year is finally here, and as the temperature cools down, Netflix has the perfect way to bring the heat. Trainwreck Credit – Universal Pictures

Trainwreck is a romantic sex comedy film directed by Judd Apatow from a screenplay by Amy Schumer. The 2015 film follows Amy Townsend, a promiscuous and free-spirited young woman working as a magazine writer. When she is tasked with writing about a prominent orthopaedic surgeon named Aaron Conners, she finds herself attracted to him despite her fear of relationships. Trainwreck stars Schumer, Bill Hader, Brie Larson, Colin Quinn, John Cena, Tilda Swinton, and LeBron James.

Netflix’s 2023 action-thriller series, Blood Coast, isn’t just your average cop show about chasing criminals and putting them behind bars. Rather, it chronicles a group of meticulous and unorthodox cops who know that playing by the book won’t get you anywhere, and in order to catch a criminal, you’ve got to think like one. Lyès Benamar (Tewfik Jallab) and his team didn’t really have a clean image in the department, mainly due to his unconventional methods of busting criminals and drug dealers.

Shellac has debuted a festival promo trailer for the indie drama Twelve Thousand, originally titled Douze Mille in French (which just translates to the same). The film is premiering at the Locarn Film Festival coming up in a few weeks, and is seeking international distribution to go along with the initial unveiling. From French filmmaker Nadège Trebal, the film is about a man and a woman. After he loses his illegal job, Frank thinks his wife Maroussia won’t love him anymore. In a bid for equality, he decides to leave in order to make as much money as she does: 12,000, before he returns. "Will Frank succeed in collecting this sum? Will he come back?" This year’s Locarno Film Festival (Aug 7 -17) lineup includes Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Joseph Gordon-Levitt plane thriller 7500, which gets its world premiere at the Swiss showcase. Scroll down for major category lineups.

The 72nd edition of the festival marks the first for incoming artistic director Lili Hinstein who has taken over from Carlo Chatrian. As ever, there is a strong contingent of European and Asian arthouse movies and the Piazza Grande section includes a handful of titles with more mainstream appeal, such as Tarantino’s Cannes pic Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, which rolls out globally in August.

Netflix movies may still be question mark in terms of being allowed in competition at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival in May, but the streaming giant will be present at Cannes Series. The Cannes television festival will mark its second year next month with Netflix going up against rival Amazon in the competition section. The full lineup includes series from Israel, Norway, Spain, and Belgium.

Netflix’s competition entry is the German series “How to Sell Drugs Online Fast,” from writers Philipp Käßbohrer and Matthias Murmann. Amazon is heading to Cannes Series with “The Feed,” a London-set drama created by Channing Powell and based on the novel Nick Clark Windo. “The Feed” stars “Game of Thrones” favorite Michelle Fairley opposite David Thewlis in a story about a piece of technology that allows people to instantly share thoughts and emotions. The tech falls into the wrong hands and becomes a murderous weapon.

Cannes Series has revealed the lineup, jury and masterclasses for its second edition, which takes place alongside the Mip TV market on the French Riviera.

Among ten series in competition at the TV festival are Netflix’s German show How To Sell Drugs Online and Amazon’s UK series The Feed with Michelle Fairley and David Thewlis. Out of competition shows include Starz’ Now Apocalypse and Russel T Davies’ Years And Years. Scroll down for the lineup in full.

The competition jury will be presided over by Dark show-runner Baran bo Odar with members comprising actor, director and author Stephen Fry (Gosford Park), actors Miriam Leone (Non Uccidere) and Emma Mackey (Sex Education), actor and director Katheryn Winnick (Vikings) and composer Rob (The Bureau). David Cross and Jude Law are among those with projects in the short form competition.

Among those set to give masterclasses will be Game Of Thrones...

“Vernon Subutex,” one of Canal Plus’ banner Original Series, will world premiere at the opening night of this year’s Canneseries.

Directed by Cathy Verney and starring Romain Duris (“The Beat That My Heart Skipped”) and Céline Sallette (“House of Tolerance”), the Canal Plus Création Originale will premiere three episodes, out of competition, at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes on April 5. International sales are handled by Studiocanal.

The premier and opening night slot will give a high-profile at this year’s event to Canal Plus, a partner of Canneseries, as the French pay TV giant attempts to mark itself apart in France as a quality but still edgy and Ya-appealing original series producer.

The series is inspired by a popular pair of novels from author Virginie Despentes, a bestseller in France which was crying out for a small screen adaptation.

The programme and jury for this year’s Dinard British Film Festival (Sept 28 – Oct 2) – the annual celebration of British cinema hosted on the French coast – has been revealed.

The period drama set during the reign of Charles IX, when followers of different Christian sects (Catholics and Protestants) were at one another’s throats, stars Mélanie Thierry, Gaspard Ulliel, Lambert Wilson, and Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet. Leave it to the French to create a dark psychological drama that mainly revolves around the intricacies of dining on gourmet cuisine. Bernard Rapp's "A Matter of Taste", about a waiter recruited as a food taster for an upper-class businessman, might not succeed in fully developing the myriad themes of class differences, sexuality, etc., that it wishes to explore, but there's no denying that it is as elegant as the sharp clothes and extravagant meals enjoyed by its central characters. "Taste" is a critical and popular hit in France, where it received five Cesar Award nominations.

Told in distracting flashback style, the story revolves around the bizarre relationship that develops between Nicolas (Jean-Pierre Lorit), a handsome, carefree waiter, and Frederic (Bernard Giraudeau), an imperious and wealthy business mogul. They meet when Frederic, being waited on by Nicolas, suddenly asks him to taste his food for him. When Nicolas is able to name every ingredient in the dish, the impressed Frederic offers him a job as his official food taster, with one of his chief responsibilities being to determine if any dish contains seafood or cheese, two items to which Frederic is deathly allergic.

Despite the objections of his bourgeois-hating girlfriend Beatrice (Florence Thomassin), Nicolas quickly takes to his new position, especially since he soon gets to enjoy the same high-flying lifestyle as his employer. Unfortunately, his role quickly takes on disturbing ramifications, as Frederic seems intent on making his food taster a personal clone, even to the extent of first starving and then poisoning him in order that Nicolas share his own food preferences. The two eventually become embroiled in a sinister, psychologically interdependent relationship that, needless to say, doesn't end well.

While the film seems initially promising in its audacious explorations of obsession and identity, the screenplay doesn't sufficiently develop its ideas into a coherent whole. Torn between its comedic, dramatic and satirical elements, it doesn't truly succeed on any level, though there are more than a few quietly chilling and perversely funny moments along the way. Adding greatly to the film's overall impact are the two lead performances, with Giraudeau particularly memorable as the supremely officious Frederic.
