'The Lincoln Lawyer' Star, 44, Teases "A Lot of Maggie and Mickey" in Emotional Season 4 [Exclusive]
Image
After being out of the picture for much of Season 3 of Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer, Maggie McPherson is about to have a big role in what's being billed as the show's most personal yet. Neve Campbell was promoted to a series regular earlier this year when Season 4 was officially ordered, and it all but assured that the attorney would remain close by her ex-husband Mickey Haller's side as he fights the murder charges against him. It's the perfect time for a comeback, as Maggie has long been a fan favorite and an emotional anchor for Mickey, given the history the characters share. Series star Manuel García-Rulfo promises that their ever-evolving relationship will be front and center in the upcoming run, too.

In the wake of his recent role in Jurassic World Rebirth, García-Rulfo recently sat down with Collider's Christina Radish for a larger profile exploring his journey to stardom.

The groundwork has been laid for what is sure to be an emotionally torturous time for Mickey as he works towards proving his innocence. Garcia-Rulfo has recently revealed why the coming season is a favorite of his.

The past three seasons of The Lincoln Lawyer have seen Mickey as the attorney. Season 4 will showcase him as the defendant, and it's likely...

Matthew McConaughey's 83% Fresh Crime Movie That's Required Viewing for Bosch Fans Is Quietly Dominating the Streaming Charts
Image
Matthew McConaughey's The Lincoln Lawyerhas begun its climb towards the top of the streaming charts.

Per FlixPatrol, 2011's The Lincoln Lawyer starring Matthew McConaughey has officially made itself at home on the top ten list for films streaming on Paramount+ for Jul. 7. The Lincoln Lawyer currently stands one spot higher than Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, while it still has quite a ways to climb before it beats out competitions like Monster Summer, Top Gun: Maverick, and the current number one film on the list, Novocaine.

Based on Michael Connelly's 2005 film of the same name, which itself is set in the same universe as Connelly's Boschseries, The Lincoln Lawyer stars McConaughey as Mickey Haller, a defense attorney who largely works out of the back of his Lincoln Town Car. Haller's work usually revolves around defending low-level criminals and drug offenders, although his latest case quickly draws him into a much bigger,...

“It Was Not Expected": 'The Lincoln Lawyer's Andrea Freeman Exit Addressed by Yaya DaCosta
Image
Good shows have a way of setting you up to consistently want more. Netflix's hit legal drama, The Lincoln Lawyer, is consistent with that and its third season finale did exactly that. Cruising down the streets of Los Angeles with the wind in his face, Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) is celebrating victory in yet another tough case, and this time he intends to take a vacation. But when a police officer pulls him over for a missing license plate, the body of his client Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton) is found in the trunk. Season 4 has already begun filming in Los Angeles in February and the sixth book in Michael Connelly's Lincoln Lawyer series, The Law of Innocence, will be adapted. However, there is one character who might not return for Season 4.

Yaya DaCosta was introduced in Season 2, in which she played fierce criminal prosecutor Andrea Freeman. After adversarial...

‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Star Yaya DaCosta Speaks Out on Her ‘Unexpected’ Exit & Andrea’s Future
Image
Fans of The Lincoln Lawyer are still trying to pick their jaw off the floor after the the Season 3 cliffhanger. It saw Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) pulled over for a missing license plate. This led to the body of his client Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton) being found in the trunk. Those who read Michael Connelly’s novel “The Law of Innocence” have an idea of what’s to come. Thankfully, Netflix confirmed Season 4 began filming in Los Angeles in February. One name we sadly may not see on the call sheet is that of Yaya DaCosta, who played criminal prosecutor Andrea Freeman. Her relationship with Mickey evolved from being fierce courtroom adversaries to cozy friends with benefits, and more. Showrunner Ted Humphrey spoke about the “great chemistry” between the two to TV Insider. “Yaya’s performance is fantastic as Andrea,” he said. “Andrea is not even a part of this story in the book,...

Here's What That Explosive 'The Lincoln Lawyer' Season 3 Ending Means For Mickey's Future
Image
After a little while away, The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 dropped on Netflix on October 17, and it was good to have LA's hottest lawyer, Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) back on the job. The murder of Glory Days (Fiona Rene) was Mickey's sole focus throughout the season, and the season finale ultimately produced the goods with the revelation of who was responsible. However, as with good TV, the show threw up one huge spanner in the works with its final scene. Haller moved from lawyer to client as the body of his client, Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton), was found in his car's trunk after he had been pulled over for a missing license plate. Series co-showrunner Ted Humphrey has teased what enormous ramifications that scene might have for Mickey's future.

‘Magnum P.I.’ Sneak Peek: Can Tc Fix His Relationship With Mahina? (Video)

Tc (Stephen Hill) may not have been ready to see anyone while he was recovering after being shot — he didn’t even tell his mother what happened — but it’s time, on Magnum P.I., for him to deal with the consequences of that. On the list of people he wants to see now that he’s out of the rehab facility is Mahina (Emily Alabi), and TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek of just that in the October 25 episode. With encouragement from Sham (Christopher Thornton) and armed with flowers (which he worries isn’t enough), Tc approaches Mahina at work. When she asks what he’s doing there, “I came to bring you flowers,” he says, then acknowledges he should’ve given her a heads up. “I just wanted to know if you had some time to talk.” But “now you want to talk?” she asks. “I’ve been...

Magnum P.I. Season 5B: Cast, Release Date, Plot, and Everything Else We Know
Jay Hernandez and Perdita Weeks in Magnum P.I. (2018)
Regarding the return of Magnum P.I., it's a good news-bad news situation for fans.

Let's go with the good news first. Unlike many scripted programs, the second half of the NBC series' fifth season will return on Oct. 4, earlier than was previously announced.

The bad news is that these episodes are likely the end for the Magnum reboot. After saving the show following its cancellation by CBS, NBC managed to run it into the ground before canceling it yet again. Yup, it's been that kind of season for Magnum.

Here's everything we know about the probable Magnum final ride.

Has Magnum P.I. been renewed?

No, sadly, just the opposite. It's been a roller-coaster couple of years for those involved with Magnum.

For four seasons, the Jay Hernandez-starrer was a pretty sturdy performer for CBS. Granted, ratings expectations for Friday prime-time are a fairly low bar.

In May 2022, CBS shockingly...

Sympathy For Delicious Blu-ray Review
The long-in-development directorial debut of Mark “the Fourth Avenger” Ruffalo, Sympathy For Delicious tells the story of a gifted DJ who’s fallen on hard times in the wake of an accident that’s left him confined to a wheelchair. Living out of his car, relying on the charity of a do-gooding priest (Ruffalo), things are pretty bleak for Delicious D (that’s his name!) until he finds that he has the power to heal the sick with a laying on of hands—a power that cannot be applied to his own devastating malady. Further embittered by this cruel twist of fate, D nonetheless offers his healing hands to the downtrodden masses of the streets, but it isn’t long before an opportunistic indie rock band offers him a second shot at stardom if he’ll exploit his gift on-stage for a lucrative music/evangelism fest called Healapalooza. But does...

Blu-Ray Review: Well-Acted ‘Sympathy For Delicious’ Feels Too One-Note
Chicago – An intriguing, highly unusual premise is brought to life by fine performances in “Sympathy for Delicious,” but the film’s aim to inspire is undercut by the shallowness of its one-note characters. Scene after scene veers between a genuinely absorbing morality play and a feature-length “Touched by an Angel” episode riddled with f-bombs.

I suspect that the picture was awarded a special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival in part because of its offscreen story regarding the 20-year friendship between first-time director Mark Ruffalo and screenwriter/star Christopher Thornton. Their arduous journey toward bringing this indie production to the screen was clearly a labor of love, and the film is an impressive achievement on numerous levels. It just has the tremendous misfortune of centering on one of the most insufferable protagonists in recent memory.

Blu-Ray Rating: 2.5/5.0

Thornton is a fine actor and proves here that he’s more...

Ruffalo Struggled With Grief Throughout Directorial Debut
Mark Ruffalo
Movie star Mark Ruffalo insists he struggled more than most to make his directorial debut - because he was still grieving the loss of his brother.

The Kids Are All Right star signed on to direct and star in the adaptation of disabled pal Christopher Thornton's screenplay Sympathy For Delicious in a bid to beat the blues, and he admits the hectic 23-day shoot was cathartic for him.

Ruffalo tells Black Book magazine, "When I started making the film I was in the deepest pit of grief and pain. I was really mourning, and I said to myself, 'How can I possibly turn a total f**king s**t situation into something else?' The only thing I knew to do with all my unresolved anger and sadness was to shove it into the work, and try to make something meaningful.

"I would go into my trailer every day, wanting to crawl into a little ball, and then someone would be like, 'Boss, they're ready for you on set.' I'd be lying there, like, 'F**k, how am I going to face this day?'

"Acting, whether it's theatre or filmmaking, has always been a really healthy way for me to work out my dark, dark s**t... My only other option was to slip into deep despair and depression, which I was headed for. If you'll notice, I dedicated the movie to my brother."

Ruffalo's sibling, Scott, was shot dead in December, 2008.

'Sympathy For Delicious' Soundtrack With All New Music By The Besnard Lakes Gets Official Release
Sympathy for Delicious (2010)
While Mark Ruffalo's directorial debut "Sympathy For Delicious" was kind of a disaster, he certainly didn't leave anything to chance. The film follows a wheelchair-confined DJ who discovers he has the power to heal, and it boasts a pretty solid cast including Ruffalo himself, Orlando Bloom, Juliette Lewis, Laura Linney, Noah Emmerich and Christopher Thornton (who also wrote the screenplay). But Ruffalo's eye for talent didn't end there. It appears that the actor/filmmaker is somewhat of an indie music nut. "Sympathy For Delicious" features an original score by Montreal rockers The Besnard Lakes and as Ruffalo told us last month,…...

Theatrical Review: Sympathy For Delicious
Rating: 2.5/5

Writer: Christopher Thornton

Director: Mark Ruffalo

Cast: Mark Ruffalo, Laura Linney, Christopher Thornton, Juliette Lewis, Orlando Bloom

Two years ago, Mark Ruffalo's directorial debut, Sympathy For Delicious, had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. There, it became one of the biggest critical disappointments and was ripped apart. Some folks were rude for the sake of being rude, and some were fair, but almost every review was less-than-favorable. But Ruffalo got the last smile, as the film did go on to win the Special Jury Prize at the end of the festival. There are directorial debuts far worse than Delicious - Mitch Glazer's Passion Play immediately comes to mind - but the film is in no way going to be adored as much as some of his on-screen performances.

Exclusive Q&A: Mark Ruffalo Talks 'Sympathy For Delicious,' Playing The Hulk
Mark Ruffalo officially has made the jump for dependable supporting actor to A-list star.

After snagging a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Oscars this year for "The Kids Are All Right," you'd think a whole new world of opportunity would be open for the New York-via-Wisconsin and Los Angeles native. Still, it took him more than a decade to finally realize "Sympathy For Delicious," his directorial debut about a paralyzed homeless man who discovers he has has faith healing powers, only to become a deejay for a local rock and roll band.

"Sympathy" was written by and stars Ruffalo's longtime friend Christopher Thornton, who was paralyzed from the waist down in real life more than 20 years ago. Ruffalo spoke with NextMovie about the film, his preparation for the Hulk in the upcoming "Avengers" movie and why getting an Oscar nomination means nothing when it comes to cinematic fund-raising.

Mark Ruffalo on His Directing Debut, Avengers Hype and Listening to David Fincher
Mark Ruffalo
It only took a decade, but veteran actor and recent Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo finally has his feature directorial debut, Sympathy For Delicious, in theaters. Written by and starring Ruffalo's longtime theater comrade Christopher Thornton, the film follows the rise and fall of a paralyzed street dweller and aspiring DJ who discovers an uncanny gift for healing the sick, wounded and infirm -- with the exception of himself. The paradox throws him into conflict with everybody from a service- (and money-) minded Catholic priest (played by Ruffalo) to a pair of debased rockers (Orlando Bloom and Juliette Lewis) hoping to enliven their show with a big new thrill. Why not a healer?...

Sympathy For Delicious Movie Review
Mark Ruffalo
Title: Sympathy For Delicious Director: Mark Ruffalo Starring: Christopher Thornton, Juliette Lewis, Mark Ruffalo, Laura Linney, Orlando Bloom, John Carroll Lynch, Noah Emmerich It’s not just about the free, high-end swag for celebrities, although that’s certainly nice. Of the many perks and privileges they are afforded, one of the more precious ones that can’t be entirely quantified is the professional line-jump pass that actors receive to jump behind the camera and into the director’s chair. Trading on their name-recognition value, they have instant credibility with an assortment of potential financiers, easily landing the sort of important creative meetings for which hundreds of would-be auteurs would punch out their own mothers. Their efforts...

Today, Mark Ruffalo says hello to a monster and goodbye to some demons. “It’ll be a very auspicious day for me,” says the new star of The Avengers. “It’ll be the first day as The Hulk and the last day of, uh, sort of birthing my baby.”

That baby: a passion project he has lived with for over a decade, Sympathy For Delicious, an indie drama about a paraplegic faith-healer whose mystical powers work on everyone but him, sending him from the path of a prophet to a pariah. It opens today in New York and Los Angeles.

Sympathy for Delicious (2010)
"Sympathy For Delicious," Reviewed
Sympathy for Delicious (2010)
A version of this review first appeared as part of our coverage of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.

The Lord may work in mysterious ways; "Sympathy For Delicious" does not. The only thing that's mysterious about this unsubtle film about the nature of healing and faith is the thought process behind the raft of bad decisions made by director/star Mark Ruffalo, a great actor making a disappointing directorial debut working from a script by his friend and co-star Christopher Thornton. Despite an intriguing premise taken to some unexpected places and some strong supporting performances, "Sympathy For Delicious" is a gangly mess of a movie.

Thornton plays Dean, a.k.a. Delicious D, a paraplegic DJ living on Skid Row. The night after an unsuccessful visit to a faith healer, Dean wakes up with a strange sensation in his hands and the ability to heal almost anyone with a single touch.

Movie Review: Sympathy for Delicious
Orlando Bloom, Juliette Lewis, and Laura Linney come together in first-time director Mark Ruffalo's noteworthy debut "Sympathy for Delicious."

For one brief moment Dean (Christopher Thornton) allowed himself to believe. For once he opened himself up to the possibility of being healed. But when the miracle passes him by and touches the man in the next row behind him, Dean, DJ Delicious is done. He is done with faith, he’s done with hope, his expectations are gone. But the miracle did not pass him by. He received his miracle, it was just not the one he wanted. Dean wakes up with the power to heal. To heal everyone but himself.

Confused and bewildered by his new found state, DJ Delicious turns to the one solid person in his life, skid row priest Father Joe (Mark Ruffalo). Father Joe has been all over the world but when

Mark Ruffalo’s ‘Sympathy for Delicious’ — All About Transformations
The NYC premiere night, presented by Deleon Tequila, was glittering and star-filled — though the accompanying movie is anything but.

The distance between the red carpet where Mark Ruffalo, Laura Linney, Orlando Bloom, and Christopher Thornton sauntered on, smiled, and the movie they presented, the Ruffalo-directed Sympathy for Delicious, presented by Deleon Tequila, was significant.

And, by that, we mean nothing critical about the movie — it’s an intense, darkly funny, throttle-up salvation fable that features an incredible performance from Thornton.

Bloom collects the souls of Iggy Pop, Sid Vicious, and Nigel Tufnel for his hilarious (and equally disturbing) turn as a self-imagined punk god, and Ruffalo is his usual thoughtful self — he actually makes acting seem like an intellectual pursuit rather than compulsive self-promotion.

The fact that the party continued in the Garden Room at the Soho Mondrian was remarkable in many ways — because, like the misty, humid night on...
