Djimon Hounsou has been featured in many blockbuster films, including Gladiator (2000), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), and A Quiet Place: Part II (2020), but the two-time Oscar-nominated actor says he is still struggling financially. Hounsou was nominated for Academy Awards in both 2004 and 2007 for his performances in In America and Blood Diamond, respectively.
Per Deadline, Hounsou told CNN’s African Voices Changemakers, that despite his perceived success in Hollywood, he still struggles. The Beniese-born Hounsou said of his situation: “I’m still struggling to make a living. I’ve been in this business making films now for over two decades with two Oscar nominations, been in many blockbuster films, and yet, I’m still struggling financially. I’m definitely underpaid.”

Angelina Jolie remains one of the biggest movie stars of her era, despite appearing less and less frequently on screen over the years, and it was in the '90s that she made it known not just how big of an icon she was, but how talented an actress as well. The daughter of Academy Award winner Jon Voight and the late actress, Marcheline Bertrand, Angelina Jolie was always destined for something big in Hollywood. After an early role in Lookin' to Get Out alongside her father, Jolie began her career in earnest in the early '90s.
Her first major role came in the 1993 low-budget sci-fi film Cyborg 2, but she continued gaining roles even after that flop. Every year, Jolie seemed to get a touch more skillful and competent until she was nominated at some of the biggest awards ceremonies toward the end of the decade. The '90s...

Spoiler Alert: Spoilers follow for the original GladiatorWere (hopefully) about to be entertained once again. Ridley Scotts long-awaited Gladiator II finally hits theaters next weekend, and if early buzz is to be trusted, viewers should expect another hugely engaging round of brutal combat and immaculately constructed setpieces. For a long time, viewers had no idea how Scott could possibly continue the 2000 Best Picture winning original, given that it ends with the lead characters death. But recent trailers have given us a better idea of Scotts vision for a legacy sequel (even if it does admittedly raise questions about whether hes retconning the first one).
With the new installment less than a week away, film junkies are understandably in a mad rush to rewatch the first Gladiator before seeing the sequel. But obviously, not everyone has the time to do so, plus theres an entire generation of people who missed seeing the original in theaters.

Ridley Scotts epic film Gladiator (2000) is widely considered one of the greatest sword and sandal period dramas. The film is, after 24 years, getting a well-deserved sequel. Now, fans who want to brush up on the original can watch it for free on the Roku Channel. The Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix historical tale has even cracked a list of the Top 10 movies across all streaming platforms, landing at No. 10 per Reelgood.

Joaquin Phoenix is widely considered one of the best actors of this generation and the Academy Awards recognized his talent when they awarded him the Best Actor award for 2019's Joker. However, the actor has been surrounded by controversies about wanting to leave projects ahead of filming.
This year, Phoenix left Todd Haynes' yet-untitled gay romance film five days before the film was supposed to start filming, and the film was ultimately scrapped. While the move shocked the people involved in the project, it turns out he's been trying to get out of projects for a long time. In a new interview with The New York Times, legendary director Ridley Scott revealed he also tried to get out of his role in 2000's Gladiator.

Twilight of the Mallrats is going to feature a very familiar cast. Kevin Smith just gave an update about the sequel, noting that everybody from the poster will be making an appearance. Stan Lee is featured on the original 1995 poster, but he sadly passed away in 2018. However, there will more than likely be more than a few tributes to the Marvel Comics maestro when Smith gets done with the story.
Kevin Smith had already announced that Jason Lee, Shannen Doherty, Michael Rooker, Ethan Suplee, Ben Affleck, and more were going to return for Mallrats 2: Twilight of the Mallrats. However, it appears that Jeremy London and Claire Forlani will also be on board for the highly anticipated sequel, though Smith has not mentioned them by name yet. But, this would count as all of the characters on the poster, including Sven-Ole Thorsen who is returning as Lafours, along with Smith and Jason Mewes.

Twilight of the Mallrats is making tremendous progress with its preproduction, as Kevin Smith has now completed the first draft of the screenplay. On social media, Smith told his fans he's been working on the screenplay while he's been staying at home, continuously keeping fans updated on his progress. Now, the first draft of the script is in the can, as Smith posted an image of the cover page for Twilight of the Mallrats on Instagram. You can take a look at the photo below, and also note the date and its "First Draft" label.

Last March, director Kevin Smith revealed that he is making a sequel to his 1995 comedy Mallrats, with the filmmaker teasing the addition of practically every main cast member from the original movie. Last May, the filmmaker said that the sequel will be called MallBrats, and that he has a completed script, with another report from September revealing that shooting would begin in January 2016. That was the last we heard about the project, but during a new radio interview, the filmmaker revealed that this sequel has now transformered into a TV series.
Kevin Smith explained in a previous update that he would shoot Mallrats 2 at the Exton Square Mall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but as he revealed in a radio interview with Philadelphia's Wmmr, his plan hit a big snag. The director's agent originally told him that Universal would likely just let the rights to Mallrats go for the director to make a sequel.

The week is strong with the Hollywood idea that one good movie will keep your career going endlessly. M. Night Shyamalan in back this weekend with The Visit, a fairly goofy-looking found footage horror flick about grandparents gone wrong, and now Kevin Smith is teasing the production of Mallrats 2.
Apparently, the film will be shooting in January, and Smith has found his mall. The Exton Square Mall in Pennsylvania will, for whatever reason, be the home to a slew of returning actors. The story goes that Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Ethan Suplee, Shannen Doherty, Michael Rooker, Renee Humphrey, Joey Lauren Adams, Sven-Ole Thorsen, Scott Mosier, Bryan Johnson, and many more will be in the film, with Smith, naturally, returning as Silent Bob.
Here’s what Smith had to say on Facebook –
We found our Mall, y’all! This January, the @extonsquaremall in Exton, Pa will star in #Mallrats 2! @jayandsilentbob are coming to Chester County!

Back in May, writer-director Kevin Smith revealed that he had finished the script for his sequel to Mallrats, entitled MallBrats, with most of the main cast from the original comedy already confirmed to return. That was the last update we had on the project, until today, when Kevin Smith announced that filming will begin in January 2016, at the Exton Square Mall in Exton, Pennsylvania. Here's what the filmmaker had to say on his official Facebook page.

We may remember Independence Day, The Matrix, The Phantom Menace. But what about these forgotten 90s sci-fi films? And are any worth seeing?

But what about the sci-fi films of the 1990s that failed to make even close to the same cultural and financial impact of those big hitters? These are the films this list is devoted to - the flops, the straight-to-video releases, the low-budget and critically-derided. We've picked 50 live-action films that fit these criteria, and dug them up to see whether they're still worth watching in the 21st century.

Kevin Smith is making good on his promise to deliver Mallrats 2 as his next film, announcing today that the first draft of the screenplay is finished and that the official title of the movie is MallBrats. While the writer/director didn't offer any new plot details, the title surely hints that the original characters will be bringing some of their children into the mix this time around. The filmmaker also used this moment to remember original Mallrats producer Jim Jacks. He says:
"20 years in the making. 113 pages fulla old friends & new jokes. This is for you, Jim. Wish you were here. #MallBrats"
Jim Jacks had always wanted to make a sequel to the original Mallrats. Saldy, he passed away a little over a year ago. His untimely death helped motivate and push to see the film become a reality. At this time, the sequel does not have a release date.

Kevin Smith, who once claimed he was retiring from directing, has quite the feature film slate line-up over the course of the next two years. But he is now changing those plans somewhat, pushing the sequel Mallrats 2 to the forefront. The comedy was originally announced for an early 2016 start date. That changed to late 2015. But now it seems the movie will come first on the docket to take advantage of a key shooting location that may not be around very much longer, with production set to start sometime soon.
The original plan saw Kevin Smith, who just finished shooting the second film in his True North Trilogy Yoga Hosers, doing Clerks III next, followed by his hockey epic Hit Somebody, and the True North trilogy ending Moose Jaws after that. Mallrats 2 was originally the last of these four movies set to move into production. But Kevin Smith has pulled his...

A few weeks back, the prospect of a Mallrats sequel was hinted at in a cheeky Facebook post by director Kevin Smith. In the short period to follow, the project has gone from “a glint in the eye” to an official production on Smith’s forthcoming slate. Fitting in into his hectic year ahead saw Clerks 3 take precedent, with Mallrats 2 earmarked for an early 2016 shoot.
My how the tables have turned, as Smith announced on his weekly Hollywood Babble-On show (via Slash Film) that the two sequels are now being shot in the reverse order. Due to some timetable logistics, Mallrats 2 is set to shoot this year and Clerks 3 will take the early 2016 slot.
Read on for a transcription of Smith’s comments, but beware, there’s a major plot spoiler buried in the middle:

Talk of Mallrats 2 continues to escalate into further bouts of social media madness as director Kevin Smith has opted to use Twitter as a casting announcement tool. In the last couple of weeks, the status of the shopping-centric sequel has gone from non-existent to very much on Smith’s upcoming production slate. And of course, as the film falls within his very own View Askewniverse, he’s intent on roping in all of the main players from the 1995 caper to reprise their roles. Which is just plain brilliant.
So far, the returnees are: Jason Lee as Brodie Bruce, Shannen Doherty as Renee, Smith as Silent Bob, Jason Mewes as his mouthy buddy Jay, Ethan Suplee as Willam, Stan Lee as himself and Michael Rooker as the pretzel-eating Mr. Svenning.

Director Kevin Smith continues to add more and more cast members for his upcoming sequel Mallrats 2, with original Mallrats stars Joey Lauren Adams (Gwen), Renée Humphrey (Trish) and Sven-Ole Thorsen (Lafours) coming back to reprise their roles. When Kevin Smith revealed that Jeremy London was coming back last week, his tweet said "8 down, 4 to go," implying that he has four more Mallrats cast members left to add. Kevin Smith’s retirement from filmmaking has obviously been put on hold for the foreseeable future. In addition to new movies, he’s revisiting the ones he cut his teeth on. Clerks 3 is happening, and now that Mallrats 2 is in the works, Smith is reuniting much of the cast, adding three more familiar faces. Over the last few days, Smith has taken to social media to drop the news that Joey Lauren Adams, Sven-Ole Thorsen, and Renee Humphrey are all returning to the mall for more retail-based shenanigans. They play local gossip Gwen, junior Masters and Johnson Trish the Dish, and the contraband-planting security guard La Fours, respectively. While none of these three are major characters in Smith’s 1995 sophomore film, they are key parts of the world the writer/director has always sought to create.
