Nearly three years after its release to critical acclaim, Saber Interactive's asymmetrical survival horror title Evil Dead: The Game is being pulled from Steam, Sony, and other digital storefronts with no reason given behind the removal. The developer confirmed the news on Wednesday, thanking supporters and writing, "Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.” Since the axing of sales, Bruce Campbell, who reprized his role as Ash Williams for the game, has reacted to the adaptation's end, writing, "Dead end."

By the looks of it, iconic horror legend Bruce Campbell is fated to play Ash Williams yet again in other iterations of The Evil Dead. During an interview with MovieWeb about his upcoming role in Peacocks bone-chilling fright fest, Hysteria!, Campbell was candid about whether hed ever play Ash again in some iteration should the film's original director, Sam Raimi, take on the project.

We can't hide the movies anymore, Campbell mused. The last one we made [2023s Evil Dead Rise] made the most of any Evil Dead movie, so we'd be silly to stop now. So, we've got two more in the pipeline and a possible animated series as well.

It was heartbreaking when the copyright dispute between original Friday the 13th producer/director Sean S. Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller came up and brought any further development of the extremely cool Friday the 13th video game to a screeching halt. Now here’s another franchise video game heartbreaker: the folks at Saber Interactive have announced that they won’t be developing any new content for Evil Dead: The Game, and plans to bring the game to Nintendo Switch have been abandoned.

No information was given on exactly why Saber had decided to set aside any further development of the game. It would be odd if there are licensing issues, because the rights to the overall Evil Dead franchise seem to be rather clear cut: they’re owned by franchise creator Sam Raimi, producer Rob Tapert, and star Bruce Campbell.

We’re coming up on the one year anniversary of the release of Evil Dead: The Game, and our friends at Bloody Disgusting have shared the news that a special edition of the game, called the “Game of the Year Edition“, is now available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC from the Epic Games Store and Steam.

There’s a kind of shaggy glory to Evil Dead: Sam Raimi’s demonic scary movie series spawned from the writer/director’s triumphant indie horror marvel from 1981. Starring childhood friend Bruce Campbell and shot in the Tennessee wilderness with next to no budget, the inaugural outing with Raimi’s Necronomicon (aka Book of the Dead) and its flesh-ripping Deadites — also known by the original film’s title, “The Evil Dead” — established a formula for four more films with immeasurable influence on skin-peeling, tendon-snapping, chainsaw-revving pop culture as we know it.

A week later, it was announced that Mia’s brother David Allen, who was played by Shiloh Fernandez, is also being added to the game on September 8th. Castle Kandra from Army of Darkness was added to Evil Dead: The Game as a playable map last month, and now this month the game’s developers are hinting that the character Mia from the 2013 version of Evil Dead (watch it Here) may soon be added to the game as a playable character. After years of work, Hail to the Deadites has set its world premiere. The upcoming Evil Dead documentary is set to debut at the Fantasia International Film Festival. Like most major events this year, the in-person version of the event has been scrapped in the interest of public health. Ash is back! Starz announced today the greenlight of the network's next original series, the long-awaited follow-up to the classic horror film franchise The Evil Dead. The project reteams the original filmmakers, director Sam Raimi, with longtime producing partner Rob Tapert and star Bruce Campbell.

The Starz Original series officially titled Ash Vs. Evil Dead will be 10 half-hour episodes. Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons - personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its "Evil" grip.

It's seems Sam Raimi and Ghost House Pictures' Rob Tapert are still kicking around the idea of rebooting The Evil Dead. In a recent interview with Freep, the producer was asked about the status of the long-rumored project. Here's what he had to say...

"It's possible; we're looking at a script this month" Tapert said. "What's interesting about Evil Dead, is very few people saw it in the format we made it for, which is for the theater. ... I think Sam wants to embrace the ultimate experience in grueling terror and see it remade for a proper theatrical experience."

The Evil Dead was released October 15th, 1981 and stars Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss, Richard DeManincor, Betsy Baker, Theresa Tilly, Philip A. Gillis, Dorothy Tapert, Cheryl Guttridge. The film is directed by Sam Raimi.

A unique event - a convention centered solely on the undead and “zombie culture” - took place here in the Emerald City. Organized by promoter Ryan Reiter (of “Red, White, and Dead” fame), this was an undertaking the size of which would have been bold for even an already established convention. For a first-time con, the scope of it was impressive, to say the least.
