10 Best Animated Martial Arts TV Shows That Aren't Anime
Image
While martial arts animated series are often associated with anime, plenty of other styles of animation have excelled in this type of programming. Although many of the most famous examples of martial TV shows, such as Dragon Ball and Naruto, stemmed from Japan, Western animation studios also produced some of the greatest examples of this genre. Martial arts as a discipline teaches its practitioners about the virtues of consistency, mindfulness, and training, which makes it the perfect topic for the life lessons taught to young viewers in many animated series.

Some of the greatest animated series explored themes around martial arts and the virtues of fighting for what is right. By blending different genres such as action, fantasy, and sci-fi in series populated by skilled fighters, the narrative potential of battles between good and evil is endless. While many of these series were influenced by anime classics, they also carved...

Gary Larson Fans May Have Missed the Best Version of The Far Side
Image
Quick Links The Far Side Was Not Just a Comic Tales From The Far Side Is Worth Watching Tales From The Far Side Had a Hidden Sequel Where To Watch Tales From The Far Side

Gary Larson's Tales from The Far Side marked a definitive moment for Larson's strip. Known for its art style, eerie settings, and often confusing jokes, the comic strip quickly grew to become a worldwide phenomenon. Nearly 2,000 newspapers published the strip at its height, and 4,000 panels were eventually released throughout its run. Larson is still publishing new releases to this day, though his output has decreased since the height of the comic's run.

With so much love and respect for his bizarre world, Larson did not just restrict his characters to the comic medium. In 1994, he agreed to create a made-for-tv special that would see his animated world brought to the small screen. Tales...

Bibble: Every Barbie Movie The Puffball Is In
Image
Bibble, the lovable puffball friend of Barbie's Elina, made his film debut in 2001 and has appeared in several Barbie movies, stealing the hearts of viewers with his cuteness. He played a supporting role in the Fairytopia series, offering emotional support to Barbie as she overcomes obstacles and insecurities in her adventures. While Bibble did not appear in Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie, there's a possibility of a cameo in a sequel, as the door is open for more possibilities and Gerwig's film often references obscure aspects of the franchise.

The magical puffball Bibble was introduced long before Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie, and he plays an important role in Barbie's adventures in Fairytopia. Making her film debut in 2001's Barbie in the Nutcracker, the legendary toy has appeared in countless films of the animated variety before finally coming to the big screen in 2023's smash hit Barbie. Though she is typically the star of the show,...

Review: Krypto the Superdog: the Complete Series
Image
I am decades away from the target audience for the just-released Krypto the Superdog: the Complete Series. Ever since the Canine of Steel arrived in 1955, he has been a popular supporting player, and with all-things super-heroic now part of the pop culture zeitgeist, it made perfect sense to give him a series for the younger side of the television demographic.

All 39 episodes of the 2005 series are presented here, adapted by producer Chris Mitchell. Joining Krypto (voiced by Sam Vincent) on his crimefighting adventures are Streaky (Brian Drummond), Supergirl’s pet cat, and Ace the Bathound (Scott McNeil). They even created Stretch-o-Mutt (Lee Tockar) to round things out. And if there are going to be animal heroes, there have to be animal villains, who happen to include the pets of Lex Luthor (Brian Dobson) and Catwoman. When things look dire, they can count on help from the Dog Star Patrol.
