    He nearly became Jethro Bodine on The Beverly Hillbillies (1962) when the producers were casting. Max Baer Jr. eventually got the part but Torrey was the original choice. He went on to appear in several episodes of the series in the role of Mark Templeton. He also appeared in episodes in 1969 as a character called Matthew Templeton.
