Making ‘Real Women Have Curves’: How the Musical’s Ice Storyline Captures Today’s Realities
Image
The creators behind Real Women Have Curves never imagined their musical, which is set in the Eighties, would hit as hard as it does today. Based on the 2002 film of the same name, the show follows a group of women working at a garment factory as they navigate issues of body positivity and, most poignantly —especially given what’s happening in the country — the realities of being undocumented immigrants.

The powerful story centers on Ana (played by Tatianna Córdoba), a young woman coming of age in East L.A. with...

Robert Trujillo and Kirk Hammett Play Fugazi’s “Waiting Room” at Metallica’s D.C.-Area Concert: Watch
Image
As they’ve been doing throughout Metallica’s “M72 World Tour,” bassist Robert Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett performed a local-inspired “doodle” at the band’s show in Landover, Maryland on Wednesday night (May 28th). With the show taking place in the greater Washington, D.C. area, the pair paid tribute to the legendary Fugazi.

Trujillo and Hammett’s Fugazi tribute consisted of them performing the intro to the classic “Waiting Room,” with Trujillo playing the iconic bass riff that made Consequence‘s list of the 50 Greatest Basslines of All Time.

Heavy Consequence also heard from a reliable source that Fugazi singer-guitarist and all-around hardcore legend Ian MacKaye was in the “Snakepit” section of the audience, with a smile on his face.

The “doodle” portion of the show also saw Trujillo and Hammett play the Metallica rarity “Just a Bullet Away” from the 2011 Beyond Magnetic EP.

Rush’s Alex Lifeson Recently Jammed with Metallica’s Kirk Hammett and Rob Trujillo: “I Loved Every Second”
Image
In a new interview, Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson revealed that he recently had dinner with Metallica’s Kirk Hammett and Rob Trujillo — an evening that culminated with an impromptu jam session.

Speaking with prog-rock site Sea of Tranquility, Lifeson said he went out for dinner with the Metallica members in Toronto for the “M72 World Tour” last week, and the veteran musicians ended up jamming for a few hours afterward at Lifeson’s house.

“They came over after dinner and we played for a few hours, and it was great,” Lifeson said (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), explaining that the trio locked into a simple blues vamp before getting more adventurous, much to the Rush guitarist’s delight.

“Often in the past, if you jam with a bunch of people, we’d play a 12-bar bluesy thing; everybody can play that: ‘Let’s do that,'” Lifeson said.

‘I Will Never Leave You Alone’ Blu-ray Review (Arrow Video)
Image
Stars: Ken Trujillo, Katerina Eichenberger, Emma Anne Wedemeyer, Chris Genovese | Written and Directed by D.W. Medoff

I Will Never Leave You Alone, directed by D.W. Medoff, is a haunting and emotionally intense horror film that made its premiere at this year’s FrightFest. Though it fits comfortably within the horror genre, the film distinguishes itself through its profound emotional core and psychological depth, offering viewers a layered and unforgettable experience.

The story centres on Richard, played by Ken Trujillo, an ex-convict grappling with the weight of his dark and violent past. Upon his release from prison, Richard is given an unusual and harrowing ultimatum: he must spend six days in an abandoned, supposedly haunted house, and if he leaves before the time is up, he will be sent back to prison. This premise immediately sets the stage for a tense and claustrophobic experience. However, as the film progresses, it...

“The product is crap…. but I want to invest in it somehow”: Even the Generally Calm Robert Herjavec Ripped Into a Shark Tank Product For Being Too Illogical
Image
Pitching a product on Shark Tank is a big challenge for any entrepreneur, and it takes more than just a good idea to impress the sharks. In some cases, the energy and confidence an entrepreneur brings to the table can be just as important as the product itself.

Similarly, when Scotty Trujillo, the creator of Copy Keyboard, stepped onto the stage full of excitement, he hoped his unique product and bold personality would be enough to win the sharks over.

Robert Herjavec in Shark Tank | Credits: ABC Network

His passion was clear, and it quickly caught their attention. But would his enthusiasm alone be enough to secure a deal, or would the sharks dig deeper into his product?

Did Scotty Trujillo’s enthusiasm convince the sharks to invest?

When entrepreneurs step onto the Shark Tank stage, they have only a few minutes to convince the sharks that their business is worth investing in.

I Will Never Leave You Alone Review: A Haunting Portrait of the Human Condition
Image
Kenneth Trujillo takes the lead role in Dw Medoff’s haunting new film, I Will Never Leave You Alone. Trapped in a house with a dark past, Richard finds no escape from the ghosts consuming his mind. Both gifted storytellers, director Medoff and actor Trujillo, invite audiences into the tortured inner world of a man clinging to his sanity.

Richard emerges from prison with nowhere to turn. A strange job offer presents both promise and peril—six nights in a haunted house, alone with its lingering spirits. In exchange, a new start. But ghosts haunt more than just these walls. Through Trullio’s deeply felt performance, we experience Richard’s memories resurfacing, each replay twisting the knife of his past mistakes.

Medoff peers into the shadows of the human psyche. His intricately crafted scenes burrow beneath the skin, unflinchingly bearing witness to personal demons few dare confront. Yet empathy prevails,...

Metallica’s Robert Trujillo Plays Full Show with Old Band Suicidal Tendencies, Filling in for Son Tye: Watch
Image
Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo came through in the clutch for his former band Suicidal Tendencies.

When the latter’s current bassist, Robert’s son Tye, had a scheduling conflict with his other band Ottto, it was the elder Trujillo who filled in on bass for Suicidal Tendencies’ show last Thursday (October 26th) at the House of Vans in Mexico City.

We previously reported on the Metallica bassist reuniting with his old band alongside his son for a rendition of “I Saw Your Mommy” at a show supporting Metallica in Arizona. That turned out to be a trial run for Robert’s full-set performance.

In Mexico City, the band ran through a 14-song set including the aforementioned song and staples such as “Institutionalized,” “You Can’t Bring Me Down,” “Send Me Your Money,” and more.

Not surprisingly, the set was heavy on material from 1990’s Lights… Camera… Revolution! — one of the...

Lead Roles for Latinos Have Seen ‘No Significant Increase’ in Film and TV, New Report Says
The number of TV shows and movies with Latino leads continues to lag far behind the proportion of the United States population they represent. According to their 2023 U.S. Latinos in Media Report from nonprofit think tank the Latino Donor Collaborative, the number of Latino leads on TV and film grew a small amount in 2023 — 2.6% to 3.3% on TV, 5.1% to 5.7% in film.

Those TV numbers represent 33 out of 987 shows that have aired this year featuring Latino leads. Behind the camera, 189 of the 9,870 episodes aired were directed by Latinos.

“Unfortunately, this report confirms there has been no significant increase in U.S. Latino representation in shows and films” since the report first started analyzing data in 2018, the report states.

Latino representation tracks significantly behind other large racial groups. The Ldc cites Nielsen data showing that Latino people make up 19.1% of the population but just 7.1% of characters on screen. That compares with Black...

Robert Trujillo Reunites with Suicidal Tendencies for Gig Supporting Metallica: Watch
Image
Bassist Robert Trujillo joined his old band Suicidal Tendencies and his son Tye Trujillo onstage for a performance of “I Saw Your Mommy…” during their support set for Metallica on Saturday (September 9th) in Glendale, Arizona.

It was a pleasant surprise for those who attended the gig, which was a makeup date for Metallica’s September 3rd Glendale show that was postponed due to James Hetfield testing positive for Covid.

Original support act Ice Nine Kills couldn’t make the rescheduled date, so concertgoers were instead treated to a set by crossover thrash vets Suicidal Tendencies.

Robert Trujillo famously played bass in the Los Angeles band during its prime era — 1989 to 1995 — and now, his son Tye is currently serving as touring bassist. It made for a double dose of Trujillo low-end action on Saturday as father and son ran through the early Suicidal Tendencies track “I Saw Your Mommy…” (from...

Blue Beetle Star Defends the Film's 'Fascist Batman' Joke
Image
Blue Beetle's Raoul Max Trujillo says he understands where co-star George Lopez came from with his "fascist Batman" joke that stirred controversy among the DC Universe faithful.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Trujillo, who plays the villainous Conrad Carapax/Indestructible Man in Blue Beetle, believes Lopez's character, Rudy Reyes, was "writing off Batman" with the line. Trujillo suggests the Batman joke was done more to prop up Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle while pointing out the Dark Knight's elite connections.

Blue Beetle Review: DC’s Latest Superhero Movie Has Real Heart
Image
Even a little heart goes a long way, and Blue Beetle has more than enough. Based on a DC comic book with origins stretching back to 1939, the film follows Jaime Reyes (the third incarnation of Blue Beetle in the comics), a young Mexican man who returns to his family’s home after college, only to learn his family is losing their house, their auto shop has shut down, and his father is not well. But he’s about to have his life changed even more significantly by the Scarab, a biotechnological alien artifact which can create a powerful exoskeletal armor/flight suit around its user and conjure up energy weapons as well.

Jaime (winningly played by Xolo Maridueña of Cobra Kai fame) is given the Scarab by Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine), whose family company, Kord Industries, lords over Palmera City and plans to replace the barrio where Jaime’s family lives with the same expensive,...

Blue Beetle's connection to Booster Gold could pave the way for a potential team-up in a movie or second season. Blue Beetle Star Insists Villain Carapax Isn't Pure Evil: 'He Was Just a Victim in All of This'
Image
Blue Beetle star Raoul Max Trujillo recently emphasized the "humanity" of the upcoming DC Universe blockbuster's secondary villain, Conrad Carapax.

Trujillo insisted that Carapax (also known as "Indestructible Man") is more than just a one-dimensional baddie in an interview with Screen Rant. "I think what I brought to it with the help of [director] Angel [Manuel Soto] is a humanity to [Carapax] that we see lurking at the beginning," he said. "It's subtle and it's nuanced, but it's there behind his eyes, behind every command given to him. You see something going on, and you're not quite sure what it is. As the film goes on, his humanity is completely revealed."

Metallica Become Actual Puppet Masters, Rock “Master of Puppets” on Kimmel: Watch
Image
Can Metallica actually master puppets? That was the question posed to the metal icons on Wednesday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, resulting in a hilarious sketch. Oh, and the band also rocked an epic rendition of “Master of Puppets” on the show.

Following his monologue, host Jimmy Kimmel introduced a pre-taped segment in which the four members of Metallica went to marionette school to learn how to become puppeteers. After a quick lesson from the pros, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers were tasked with performing a theatrical production in front of a group of young children.

Lars Ulrich had the honor of appearing first, controlling a cactus puppet, as he began the story of how Metallica became a band in an amusing high-pitched voice. James Hetfield came out next, manipulating a cat puppet. Soon followed Kirk Hammett, the donkey, and Robert Trujillo, the invisible man.

One of...
