Zooey Deschanel Starred In A Star-Studded Wizard Of Oz Miniseries That Everyone Forgot About
Image
Frank Baum's 1900 children's novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" has had an incredible life well beyond its original intent. First, there was a Broadway musical adaptation in 1902, and then in 1939, it was adapted into the film "The Wizard of Oz" starring Judy Garland. Since then, there have been numerous excellent and unique reinterpretations of Baum's story, ranging from 1978's "The Wiz" (a movie musical featuring an all-Black cast) to the wildly successful "Wicked" franchise based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, which has since given rise to a major musical film version starring Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Jeff Goldblum. "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" is wildly adaptable because of its rather simple plot structure and hugely recognizable elements, and since it's been in the public domain since 1956, people have had a lot of time to create their own visions of this classic fantasy adventure.

Indeed, there have...

Taylor Sheridan's 10-Year-Old Action Film With 92% Rt Score Gets Exciting Sequel Update
Image
Before becoming a master of the modern Western genre with the Yellowstone franchise and several other action series on Paramount+, Taylor Sheridan wrote Sicario. The action film premiered in 2015 and had Dune director Denis Villeneuve at the helm.

The first film starred Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and Josh Brolin. The last two reprised their roles in a less-successful sequel, 2018's Sicario: Day of the Soldado, but the franchise is also expected to continue with a third entry, Sicario: Capos. In a new appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, franchise star Josh Brolin gave an exciting sequel update, confirming Sicario 3 is real.

Around the 43:23 mark, the conversation reached Sicario 3, and the rumors that Brolin, del Toro, and Blunt would reprise their roles. "I mentioned at some point, I don't know, just to be contrary, I was like, 'Yeah, that's never going to happen,' " Brolin started.

The Fate of Eric Bana's New 'True Detective' Replacement Netflix Series Has Been Decided
Image
Although Eric Bana’s Special Agent Kyle Turner may have closed the case on the mysterious death of Lucy Cook (Ezra Franky), the case isn’t yet closed on Netflix’s breakaway crime drama, Untamed. Today, the streamer announced that its latest title to take off like wildfire has been renewed for a second season. At this point, it isn’t clear whether Bana or other characters from the debut season will return or if the production will take on a similar layout to True Detective and move into anthology territory. We can presume that the next chapter will take us to a different National Park and away from the towering granite cliffs of Yosemite in California’s Sierra Nevada region, but aside from that, there’s a lot up in the air. Still, those who flocked to the incredibly bingeable six-episode series will be happy to know that there...

Despite Mixed Reviews, Taylor Sheridan's Divisive Sequel to Hit Action Film Continues to Impress on Streaming
Image
Taylor Sheridan's partnership with Paramount+ led to many projects following the success of Yellowstone. However, Sheridan made his screenwriting debut with 2015's Sicario.

The action film Sicario is widely regarded as one of the best movies in the genre. However, three years later, the sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, failed to live up to the original's legacy. Despite the poor reception and an underwhelming theatrical run, Sicario: Day of the Soldado continues to be a hit on Netflix, per Tudum.

2015's Sicario premiered on Netflix on Mar. 2. Shortly after, the action film, which had Dune director Denis Villeneuve at the helm, became a hit on streaming. The movie starred Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio Del Toro, following the FBI's initiation to destabilize a Mexican drug cartel.

The first installment was a major hit, as it competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, and boasts...

'Sicario: Day of the Soldado' Is Headed to Netflix Next Month
Image
Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is on a hot streak of late, with his neo-Western drama hit having helped the writer, director, and producer carve out a genre all his own. However, despite his recent smash hits, not everything Sheridan has crafted has been as successful, as this divisive action crime thriller, which is headed to Netflix, proves.

Starring Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Jeffrey Donovan, and Raoul Trujillo, all of whom reprise their roles from the first outing, with Isabela Moner, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Catherine Keener joining the cast, Sicario: Day of the Soldado will be available to stream on Netflix from April 1. Taylor Sheridan's 10-Year-Old Action Film Finds New Success On Streaming Ahead of Sequel's Netflix Release
Image
Most of Denis Villeneuve's films received critical acclaim. Although the director is currently best known for his work on the Dune adaptations, he has also directed several other successful films, including 2015's Sicario.

The action crime thriller Sicario is one of the best CIA films of all time. The movie marked Yellowstone creator's screenwriting debut, and the team up was very successful. Shortly after its debut on Netflix on Mar. 2, Sicario became a hit on the streaming platform, Tudum reveals.

For the week between Mar. 3 and 9, just one day after the film's arrival on the platform, Sicario entered the charts in fifth place globally with 4.6 million views and 9.2 million hours viewed. The numbers were solely from the U.S., which was the only region that recently premiered the film.

However, in the U.S. charts alone, Sicario was in fourth place, just behind the animated face-off between Despicable Me 4 and Plakton: The Movie,...

Taylor Sheridan & Denis Villeneuve's Oscar-Nominated Movie Becomes Netflix Global Hit 10 Years Later

Taylor Sheridan and Denis Villeneuve's Oscar-nominated movie has become a global Netflix hit a decade after its release. The Canadian director started his career with four French-language films, including Incendies, which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best International Feature. On the other hand, Sheridan is the television mogul best known as the creator of the Yellowstone franchise, including its prequels 1883 and 1923, and several other Paramount+ series, such as Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lioness, and Landman. However, he has also written several neo-Western films, such as 2016's Hell or High Water, which was nominated for four Oscars, including Best Original Screenplay, and 2017's Wind River, which he also directed. ‘Dark Winds’ Season 3 May Deliver the Year’s Best Episode of TV
Image
Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon), the Navajo reservation cop in AMC’s terrific Seventies period mystery series Dark Winds, is described by his longtime friend and colleague Gordo Sena (A Martinez) in the third-season premiere as “the most capable person I’ve ever met.” This is not hyperbole on the part of a fellow tribal cop; everything we saw of Joe in the first two seasons suggested a figure every bit as indomitable — and, for that matter, as visually striking — as the sandstone buttes that give the show’s Monument Valley setting its name.

10 Years Later, This Intense Taylor Sheridan Film Is Still Better Than His Yellowstone Universe (& It’s Streaming on Netflix)

Taylor Sheridan's name is now synonymous with the hit Paramount+ Western franchise Yellowstone. However, a decade ago, years before Yellowstone began, he wrote the script for 2015's Sicario.

Sicario, which comes from Dune director Denis Villeneuve, is now available to stream on Netflix. The film follows a principled FBI agent, Kate Macer (Emily Blunt), who is assigned to a task force to destabilize the Mexican drug cartels, working alongside a shady CIA agent, Matt Graver (Josh Brolin), and CIA-trained assassin Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro). The movie was a major hit that led to a film series which, so far, consists of two installments.

Dark Winds Season 4 Given the Green Light
Image
In advance of the series’ upcoming Season 3 premiere, AMC Networks announced today that it has renewed the critically acclaimed and popular noir drama Dark Winds for a fourth season. The expanded, eight-episode, third season premieres March 9 on AMC and AMC+.

Season 4 of Dark Winds, which will begin filming in Santa Fe, New Mexico in March, will also consist of eight, hour-long episodes. The new season will also see the directorial debut of series’ star and executive producer, Zahn McClarnon, and will debut exclusively on AMC and AMC+ in 2026.

“When we greenlit the first season of Dark Winds, we saw the potential for an authentic and long-running franchise that could live alongside the worlds we were building around The Walking Dead and Anne Rice,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks.

“That is exactly what this cast and creative team delivered, and the fans have responded.

AMC has brightened Dark Winds fans’ day by announcing the critically acclaimed drama has been renewed for season four. The early renewal order comes just weeks before the premiere of season three.

The noir drama debuted in June 2022, followed by season two in July 2023. Seasons one and two each had six episodes. Season three, premiering on March 9, 2025, will have eight, as will season four.

“When we greenlit the first season of Dark Winds, we saw the potential for an authentic and long-running franchise that could live alongside the worlds we were building around The Walking Dead and Anne Rice,” stated Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “That is exactly what this cast and creative team delivered, and the fans have responded. ‘Dark Winds’ Renewed For Season 4 At AMC; Zahn McClarnon To Make Directorial Debut
Image
There will be more Dark Winds on AMC.

The network has renewed the thriller for a fourth season. The news comes ahead of the premiere of its third season on March 9.

Season 4 of the series, which stars Zahn McClarnon, will begin filming in Santa Fe, Nm, in March and will air in 2026.

Much like Season 3, it will consist of eight episodes. Seasons 1 and 2 had six episodes each.

The news is not a huge surprise given the boost that Dark Winds seems to have gotten from its airing on Netflix. The first two seasons of the show are currently on the streamer and after they dropped in August, they remained in Netflix’s top 10 for over three weeks. Dark Winds also aired on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max as part of a two-month pop-up in 2023.

Season four will also feature the directorial debut of star and exec producer McClarnon.

The series,...

Quirkiest action movie on Netflix is sadly leaving soon
Image
In the early days, before movies became talkies, it was easy to show foreign films in the USA. Just insert new title cards in English, and film fans in St. Louis could watch and understand the latest offering from France or Germany. But then sound came and changed everything.

Of course, distributors in the United States could add subtitles or dub in new voices, but if they really wanted to sell the movie to an American audience, they could also just go ahead and make a new, English-language version.

Whether it is repurposing the Japanese classic Rashomon as The Outrage or taking Spain’s Abre los ojos and turning it into Vanilla Sky, producers in the USA are constantly scouring the globe for some hot property to acquire, rewrite, recast, and in so doing, capture a whole new audience.

Netflix viewers are running out of time to check out Cold Pursuit

Yellowstone's Taylor Sheridan Wrote This Crime Thriller On Prime Video's Top Charts
Image
People really can't seem to get enough of Taylor Sheridan. The multi-hyphenate writer-actor-director-producer is the creator of the "Yellowstone" television franchise, which mostly follow the Dutton family of ranchers over multiple generations, with a few interesting detours. While he had worked as an actor for years (even starring in an episode of "Star Trek: Enterprise") and even earned an Academy Award nomination for his screenplay for the excellent 2016 neo-Western "Hell or High Water," "Yellowstone" is what made Sheridan a household name. He's since gone on to create the hit series "Tulsa King," starring Sylvester Stallone as a mafia capo. Basically everything the man touches is streaming gold, and now another of his works is finding new eyes on home video.

Just before "Hell or High Water" showed everyone just how good Chris Pine and Ben Foster were at delivering hard-boiled western dialogue, Sheridan showed everyone just what he could do...
