As of now, Superman has grossed $569 million at the worldwide box office. Updated international figures (which we're hoping will land either today or tomorrow) should see the first DC Studios movie soar beyond $600 million, but its momentum is slowing.
With a Digital release set for August 26, Superman will almost certainly end its run beneath 2013's Man of Steel ($670 million), a solid result for a brand that was nearly damaged beyond repair by flops like Black Adam, The Flash, and Joker: Folie à Deux.
The trades have reported that Superman had a $225 million production budget before a $125 million marketing spend, adding weight to reports from last year which suggested it cost upwards of $330 million in total. If those figures are correct, Superman will, at best, turn a meagre profit, and at worst, barely break even.
When filmmaker James Gunn was asked on Threads about Superman needing to make $650 million to be deemed a success,...

James Gunn's "Superman" heralds the beginning of a new era. While it kickstarts the first chapter of the DC Universe titled "Gods and Monsters," it still features a number of familiar faces who are no strangers to Smallville, Metropolis, Gotham City, or even Central City. Yes, more than a few "Superman" actors have appeared in previous DC Comics-related movies and TV shows.
Considering the sheer amount of films and series produced over the past two decades, it was always a likely occurrence, but it's surprising how many cast members of the 2025 film already have solid DC experience. In fact, when you get down to the nitty-gritty detail of it all, you'll find that the Guy Gardner role isn't the first time that Nathan Fillion played a Green Lantern. Unsurprisingly, Alan Tudyk's turn as Superman Robot #4, aka Gary, isn't his debut as the voice of a robot in this world either.

Can everyone time-travel except us?!
That’s how we felt after watching the premiere of Outlander‘s prequel, Blood of My Blood, which got underway Friday. The spinoff’s first two episodes introduced us to Jamie’s parents, Ellen and Brian, and Claire’s parents, Julia and Henry. By the end of the first hour, via the wonder of time-travel, all four of them exist in the 18th century. (For details on the how and why, make sure to check out the premiere recap, which covers Episodes 1 and 2.)

If Disney thought Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps would steamroll Superman in July, then the House of Mouse has learned its lesson the hard way.
The first DC Studios movie continues to perform well at the North American box office, and this weekend, it will become the highest-grossing movie featuring the Man of Steel in the U.S. The Dcu's hopeful take on Superman has clearly struck a chord with moviegoers in what's proving to be a strong start for this franchise.
Superman has hit $325.6 million domestically, and by close of business tomorrow, it will have topped 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($330.4 million) to take that top spot, even if it is still only the seventh biggest DC movie to open in U.S. theaters.
Globally, it will not beat Batman v Superman's $874 million haul, and may or may not surpass Man of Steel's $670 million total...

"Superman" features writer-director James Gunn's muse Nathan Fillion as the Justice Gang's self-appointed leader (and name decider), the hothead Green Lantern Guy Gardner. But you may have missed that the former Captain Reynolds isn't the only "Firefly" star in the movie.
Compared to previous "Superman" films, Gunn's picture features lots more of the casual sci-fi silliness of Silver Age "Superman" comics. Metropolis gets attacked by a kaiju, Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) has his own pocket dimension, and Superman's (David Corenswet) Fortress of Solitude has several robot attendants.
The robots have uniform designs, but also unique voices and numbers. The lead robot is #4, but by the end of the movie, he's taken a new name: "Gary." Gary is voiced by Alan Tudyk. Since his days playing the funny starship pilot Wash on "Firefly," Tudyk has become a prolific voice actor.

This article contains spoilers for the Resident Alien series finale.
Hopes for Resident Alien's resurrection may not be dead after all, according to series creator Chris Sheridan. It was announced in late July that Resident Alien would be ending after four seasons on the USA Network and Syfy, essentially canceling the fan-favorite comic book adaptation, with the August 8 episode serving as the series finale.
Series lead Alan Tudyk reacted to the news on social media, along with others in the Resident Alien cast, and shared warm sentiments about his time as Harry Vanderspeigle. But even though the final episode functions as a fitting farewell to the sci-fi dramedy, that may not be the end of the story.
In an interview with ScreenRant for the Resident Alien series finale, Sheridan shared that there may be a continuation in the future. In the quote below, Sheridan specifically mentions the chances of...

[Warning: The following post contains major spoilers about the series finale of Resident Alien, Season 4 Episode 10, “The End is Here.”] The end is here, alright. And we’re not Ok with it. One of the best sci-fi shows of the past decade has left our orbit in a series finale that was as full of heart, hope, and humor as it has been since Patience, Colorado’s Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle was first taken over by a Law & Order-loving alien with an unpronounceable name (the Emmy-robbed Alan Tudyk). Thankfully, it was full of resolved storylines and wonderfully set-up futures for our favorite humans, as well. That’s due in large part to creator and showrunner Chris Sheridan‘s suspicion that the series wasn’t long for this world after its move from Syfy to USA for the fourth season. “I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season,” he told us back in July ...

Resident Alien wrapped its run with an emotional finale that brought Harry’s journey full circle — from alien assassin to humanity’s quiet champion.
Along the way, he found connection, purpose, and a deeper understanding of what it means to care.
But we also wanted to hear from the man behind it all. Creator and showrunner Chris Sheridan joined us to reflect on the finale, Harry’s transformation, and the possibility of more stories to come.

Hank’s next-door nemesis Kahn is back in Hulu’s new King of the Hill revival — but you might notice he doesn’t exactly sound the same.
Kahn, an immigrant from Laos who loves to needle Hank for being a hillbilly, was voiced by a white actor, Toby Huss, during King of the Hill’s original Fox run, which ended in 2009. But for the revival, the role was recast, with The Daily Show’s Ronny Chieng (who was born in Malaysia and grew up in Singapore) taking over as Kahn.

Terry O’Quinn doesn’t need to be the center of attention.
In fact, he’d probably be the first person to tell you he wasn’t really that involved on Resident Alien. “Too brief,” he called his time as alien-hunter-turned-alien-protector, Peter Bach.
But that modesty is precisely what makes him such a joy to watch — and to interview.
(USA Network/Screenshot)
Peter’s arc may have been short, but it was deeply meaningful.
Introduced as a hardened alien hunter with a personal vendetta, Peter began his journey prepared to eliminate any threat to Earth, alien or otherwise.
(USA Network/Screenshot)
But by the end, he wasn’t just protecting an alien — he was becoming something different in its own right. His evolution mirrored Harry’s in reverse, as Peter grew to love and trust the very beings he once feared.

Now that nerds around the world have gotten a taste of James Gunn's outstanding "Superman," we're finally seeing our newest superhero cinematic universe take shape. Given everything that went down with the disastrous Snyderverse and even Superman's many cancelled films prior to that, it felt miraculous to watch a genuine Superman film grace the silver screen.
However, even more shocking was just how assured Gunn's vision for the entire DC Universe felt even at first glance. From the establishing opening crawl to the introduction of the Justice Gang to even blink-and-you-miss-it allusions to legendary DC heroes, it really feels like Gunn and his producing partner, Peter Safran, have given a lot of thought into the entire landscape of their DC mythos, including long before and long after this one adventure with the Man of Steel.

Trunks or no trunks? Until "The New 52" took away the Kryptonian's red underoos, it was kind of a given that Superman would have them on screen. Still, they were absent from Man of Steel and the Dceu, leaving fans to wonder whether they might be similarly ditched in Superman.
Filmmaker James Gunn instead decided to embrace the comic books, leading to a version of this character who looked like he'd just stepped straight off the page. He did, however, consider versions of the suit without the trunks.
Thanks to artist Maybelle Pineda, we have a first look at artwork depicting Supes in another fully blue suit, along with what looks like some photos from a costume fitting. The internet is divided when it comes to this take, with some saying it looks much better and others arguing that it's a major step backwards.

The two — who have already recorded with one another, with Williams set to appear on Byrne’s upcoming album “Who Is the Sky?,” and have previously covered each other’s songs — have come together again to write the newly announced track “Open the Door,” set to be the end credits song for Netflix’s upcoming film “The Twits.” The streamer has now given the film a release date of Oct. 17.
Byrne has also written and produced three original songs for the film — “We’re Not Like Ev’ryone Else,” “Lullaby” and “The Problem Is You” — which will be performed by the cast.

If you thought Resident Alien was just quirky sci-fi comedy, Episode 9 of Season 4, titled Tunnel Vision, is here to shake that assumption to its core. Picking up the threads from previous episodes where Harry’s alien secret was teetering on the edge of disaster and the Mantid menace lurking ever closer, this episode plunges us deep, literally, into a mine where past sacrifices and present dangers collide.
Harry (Alan Tudyk) and Mike (Corey Reynolds) team up in a hunt for the deadly Mantid alien, while Asta (Sara Tomko) grapples with the dire consequences of the Mantid’s poison. Meanwhile, family dramas unfold, old wounds reopen, and the future of Patience hangs precariously.
The episode balances intense action, gut-wrenching emotional beats, and moments of humor that feel earned, leaving me breathless and strangely reluctant to say goodbye. Yet itching to find out who “they” really are in the end.

USA Network’s Resident Alien has been cancelled after four seasons, something fans learned just hours before the cast and showrunner Chris Sheridan appeared at the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con. The critically acclaimed, incredibly entertaining sci-fi series has a passionate fanbase and during our roundtable interview, Sheridan didn’t rule out the possibility of a Resident Alien film in the future. Sheridan also confirmed he saw the writing on the wall while working on season three, and advised his cast to treat it as if it was the final season.
Although the cancellation was heartbreaking, Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, and Alice Wetterlund were still feeling positive about the overall experience. In fact, Tomko told us in Comic-Con’s Resident Alien press room that being among fans was the best way to learn the news.
“You know, I’ve been telling people this is a lot like a graduation where you’re so proud.

Yesterday, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn seemingly confirmed that he's developing a Superman sequel. The movie has become the Man of Steel's first solo outing to pass $300 million at the U.S. box office, and recently surpassed $500 million worldwide.
A sequel would make sense then, but just as fans were starting to get excited, the filmmaker clarified that he was referring to the next movie he's writing. That will see Superman play a big role in the story, but it isn't Superman 2.
"This is the same movie," he told a fan on Threads. "Superman has a major role. It's not 'Superman 2.'" He later added, "It's a ways off," and somewhat muddied the waters by sharing his definition of a "direct sequel. "I'm not sure how you define 'direct sequel.' I pretty much think of Peacemaker Season 2 as a direct sequel."

Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima is widely considered a visionary and frequently shares movie reviews on social media. They're typically either very detailed or simply an acknowledgement that he's seen something.
The latter is often considered an indication that he didn't like a new release, but Kojima had plenty to say about DC Studios and James Gunn's Superman.
"Since I’ve been on a world tour, I hadn’t had the chance to watch it, but this morning, I finally got to see James Gunn’s 'Superman.' It was good," he shared. "It was neither dark nor stylish, cool or even 'super.' The perspective of the audience—the distance and elevation—is different from the 'Superman' we used to Look Up (into the sky) to."
"This film gently observes the human being Clark Kent and Superman as one and approaches...

It's not a bird, it's a plane. The new Superman movie has just flown past a massive milestone at the box office. This week, the James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy) interpretation of the DC superhero passed the domestic gross of $291 million. Why is that number important? Because it is the total that 2013's Man of Steel made domestically back when it premiered. The new iteration of the ultimate DC hero is officially the highest-grossing solo Superman movie in history.
Per Box Office Mojo, Superman is now at $292 Tk million domestically — which isn't a huge advantage but, at the very least, it suggests that David Corenswet (Twisters) has been welcomed by North American audiences with (mostly) open arms. Despite some controversy regarding what the new version of the superhero represents, the movie has kept a steady performance at the box office that signals to the new Dcu that audiences...

Rumours about Superman's Ultraman being the Man of Steel's clone persisted for months before we saw the big reveal in the movie itself. Albert Valladares (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) served as the villain's stunt performer, but David Corenswet also donned the costume.
That was confirmed by the Engineer actor María Gabriela de Faría, when she shared several behind-the-scenes photos from the movie on Instagram in a now-deleted post. Fortunately, X has done its thing and saved this fun shot of Corenswet as Ultraman before it was lost to us.
The Clark Kent actor isn't wearing a wig or prosthetics, so this likely wasn't for scenes where Ultraman was unmasked (leaving us to wonder how many of the character's scenes were with Corenswet in the costume).

"It's funny, [Marvel Studios President] Kevin Feige wrote me yesterday. He says he hopes his old pal Bizarro..." Gunn recently said when...

The box office numbers for James Gunn’s Superman will have you looking up as the Dcu reboot continues to break records. And the latest revelation is sure to have Snyder fans screaming. Introducing David Corenswet as the superhero icon, Superman has been met with positive reviews from both critics and audiences alike, both of whom have embraced the more traditionally hopeful depiction of the character after Zack Snyder and the Dceu’s divisive take.
Now, according to reports, Superman has another record under his yellow belt. The Dcu outing has now amassed more than $500 million at the worldwide box office, which includes $292 million in the United States and Canada, meaning that Superman has now overtaken Man of Steel and become the highest-grossing Superman solo movie domestically.
This latest record is another example of how high Superman has soared in a post-covid, post-damaging Dceu world. As well as now being...

After years of underwhelming releases and an overall lack of cohesion in storytelling, DC bounced back with a bang on July 11 with James Gunn’s reliable, comic book-loving direction.
Superman, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, was loved by fans and critics alike. From incredibly positive early reviews to a $125 million domestic opening weekend, Gunn’s film soared to a summer blockbuster status while delivering a promising revival of the Dcu.
In the movie, Gunn drops us into an existing universe where metahumans are already established. Instead of seeing Kal-El land on Earth in his Kryptonian spaceship, we catch him on just another day in Metropolis—a nod to Gunn’s experience of reading Superman comic books.
However, what the movie does not say out loud in as many words, it makes up for with Easter eggs.
