Exclusive: Azuki, a recently launched company looking to establish itself as a disruptor in anime, has hired show biz veterans Mark Goffman and Jessica Turner for roles as Consulting Executive Producer and Head of Franchise Development, respectively.
Goffman and Turner will help oversee the development of Azuki IP into a global media and entertainment franchise, working closely with the company’s Head of Content, Feb Tea.
A well-established showrunner and executive producer, Goffman will leverage his experience producing multi-season series for broadcast as he helps shepherd the development of the brand’s universe and lore. He’ll look to the Azuki World Bible in preparing to seed future content and collaborations with additional formats such as manga, webtoon, and anime.

"You have your mission, Doctor, and I have mine." Paladin has debuted a trailer for the film The Ottoman Lieutenant, another historical war drama, this one directed by Joseph Ruben. Set during the first World War (or "The Great War"), the film is about a woman who ends up in a love triangle between an American doctor and a dashing lieutenant for the Ottoman Imperial Army. Josh Hartnett stars as the American, Michiel Huisman as the lieutenant, and Hera Hilmar as the woman who comes between them. The cast includes Ben Kingsley, Haluk Bilginer, Affif Ben Badra, Paul Barrett, Jessica Turner and Peter Hosking. For whatever reason this reminds me of Bitter Harvest, and sadly both films look quite mediocre. Manager Alex Cole, formerly of the Firm and Nine Yards Entertainment, has launched Elevate Entertainment, a full-service management company that includes talent, literary and reality departments as well as a development and production arm.
In representation, the company is 80-20 split between acting and writing/directing clients. Its talent roster, shepherded by founder-president Cole, includes Vinnie Jones, "Tron" co-star Serinda Swan, Jimmy Jean Louis ("Heroes"), Hannah Taylor Gordon, Karim Seleh, Myanna Buring and Justin Louis.
Partner Jenny Wood, who worked at Icm and Blumhouse Prods., handles the lit clients. Producer Peter Cohen (CBS' "I Get That a Lot") is head of reality, and Seth Howard, formerly vp production and development at Tribune Entertainment, is overseeing the development/ production arm.
With financial backing from U.K. firms, Elevate has a development slate of 10 TV series and longform projects. It has inked an overall deal with comic book veteran Howard Chaykin ("American Flagg!
