‘Detective Touré’ Creators David Pérez Sañudo and Carlos Vila Sexto on the Kind of Hero Spain Has Never Seen: ‘He Has to Deal With Things Colombo Never Had To’
Image
David Pérez Sañudo (“Ane is Missing”) and Carlos Vila Sexto (“Motivos Personales”) are ready for a different kind of hero in “Detective Touré.”

A six-episode series, backed by Spanish public broadcaster Rtve, Detective Touré Aie, Tornasol Media, DeAPlaneta and Basque state TV Eitb, the series is based on stories by Jon Arretxe.

The series first caught attention when selected as a project at Series Mania’s 2022 Co-Pro Pitching Sessions. Sneak-peaked at Content Americas in January, it was one of the highlights at its Spain Content Goldmine.

Set in Bilbao’s neighborhood San Francisco, it sees an immigrant from Guinea – with acute skills of deduction – who becomes immersed in a complex investigation, with the Nigerian mafia on his trail.

“We are used to having police officers involved in these kinds of shows, but an illegal immigrant? That’s something we have never seen before, at least in Spain,” says Vila Sexto.

Onza, Atresmedia, Amazon Unveil ‘Pequeñas Coincidencias’ Cast (Exclusive)
Marta Hazas at an event for Los Goya 29 edición (2015)
Madrid — Marta Hazas, who has leapt to fame as the absolute lead of “Velvet Collection” – Movistar + first original series which it sold to Netflix – will now star opposite series creator Javier Veiga in “Pequeñas Coincidencias,” a more unusual romantic comedy which marks several new milestones in Spain’s fast evolving high-end production industry.

Produced by Atresmedia Studios, Onza Entertainment and MedioLimón, “Pequeñas Coincidencias” (“Little Coincidences”) is Amazon Prime Video’s first fiction series in Spain. Amazon Prime Video has rights to Spain and Latin America. Otherwise, Onza will sell the world, with Onza’s Gonzalo Sagardia bringing one of the highest-profile of new productions from Spain onto the market at Mipcom.

Onza is in discussions for a U.S. sale on “Pequeñas coincidencias,” Sagardia said.

Spanish free-to-air rights are held by broadcast network Atresmedia, Atresmedia Studios’ parent company.

In a Spanish TV industry whose main challenge, at least for independent producers,...

As a reviewer I tend not to follow the opinion’s of others – no matter how many people share the same opinion or how many times I’m told said opinion is true. I know that, for the most part, my taste in movies is more aligned to the audience that reads my reviews than my fellow bloggers and critics… Which is why I was willing to part with my hard-earned money to discover the truth about Dario Argento’s take on Dracula for myself.

I kind of wish I’d listened to everyone else.

When Tania (Asia Argento), a young woman, is attacked and killed by a mysterious dark shadow in the woods...

Richard Linklater at an event for Me and Orson Welles (2008)
Richard Linklater’s 12-year project beats Ida, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Winter Sleep.

Richard Linklater’s Boyhood has been named the best film of the past year by the members of the International Federation of Film Critics, Fipresci.

The poll for the Fipresci Grand Prix 2014 - Best Film of the Year gathered votes from 553 members throughout the world.

In the first phase, participants nominated feature-length films that received their world premiere no earlier than July 1, 2013. This led to a final round between the four finalists: Boyhood by Richard Linklater, Ida by Pawel Pawlikowski, The Grand Budapest Hotel by Wes Anderson, and Winter Sleep by Nuri Bilge Ceylan.

This is the first Linklater has won the prize, which has previously gone to Michael Haneke, Paul Thomas Anderson, Jafar Panahi, Pedro Almodóvar, Jean-Luc Godard and Nuri Bilge Ceylan, among others, since its establishment in 1999.

Dario Argento’s Dracula (2012) Review
Review written by Kevin Scott, MoreHorror.com

Dario Argento’s Dracula (2012)

Director: Dario Argento

Screenplay: Dario Argento, Enrique Cerezo, Stefano Piani, Antonio Tentori, Bram Stoker

Cast: Thomas Kretschmann (Dracula), Marta Gastini (Mina), Asia Argento (Lucy), Unax Ugalde (Jonathan), Rutger Hauer (Van Helsing)

It took me a while to warm up to Francis Ford Coppola’s take on Dracula from 1992. No cape, and morphing from an old guy in a geisha outfit to one of the Doobie Brothers in a Victorian pimp suit. I was accustomed to the refined stylings of Christopher Lee and Frank Langella. I’m glad, because even more takes on the classic vampire tale would follow, and being a purist just isn’t conducive to having an open mind.

There have been Italian vampire tales before, but never by the master of the giallo himself. I’ve got a good friend who summed up Italian horror cinema perfectly.

New on Video: Argento’s ‘Dracula 3D’
Dracula 3D

Directed by Dario Argento

Written by Dario Argento, Enrique Cerezo, Stefano Piani, Antonio Tentori

Italy, 2012

More than his fellow giallo maestros (Bava, Fulci, Martino, and others), Dario Argento has had to live and work in the burdensome shadow of his earlier successes. After nearly two decades of exceptional films boasting glorious cinematic artistry and blood-soaked thrills, Argento established quite the reputation. In recent years, though, since 1993′s Trauma, these prior landmarks of genre perfection have become a distressing caveat added to nearly every negative criticism of his newest release: “Ah, Argento, how far he’s fallen. Remember when….” His latest offering, Dracula 3D, now available on an American-issued 3D Blu-ray (an Italian disc, still playable in the Us, has been out for while), is no exception. Does it rank with Suspiria, Tenebre, Deep Red, or Opera? No. But is it as bad as some detractors would suggest? Certainly not.

As someone who discovered Suspiria on VHS at age nine (after picking the name off the box art for Terror in the Aisles nonetheless), you better believe this writer was more than thrilled to hop on the phone with legendary filmmaker Dario Argento to talk about his latest feature, Dracula 3D.

Considered the Godfather of Giallo, Argento has been the creative force behind numerous influential Italian films including The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Deep Red, Inferno, Tenebre, Phenomena, and Opera.

During our recent interview with the iconic director, he discussed what fueled his decision to helm a feature based on one of the greatest stories of all time, his experiences working with 3D and his ensemble, as well as why Dracula might just be the biggest romantic in the horror genre.

Daily Dead: Thank you so much for speaking with me today, Mr. Argento. Suspiria and Tenebre were both...

New Red Band Trailer for Dario Argentos Dracula 3D
Dario Argento's 'Dracula 3D' hit VOD in the Us towards the end of last week and in case you haven't sunk your teeth into the Italian production just yet perhaps this new, and quite bizarre, red band trailer hot from the distributor IFC Midnight. This reimagination of the classic gothic tale, as unnecessary as it is, looks like an odd little feature and this new trailer which features a giant praying mantis and Hammer-esque special effects does little too enthuse me further. 'Dracula 3D' stars Thomas Kretschmann as the fanged one along with fellow co-stars, Marta Gastini, the sexy Asia Argento (below), Unax Ugalde, Miriam Giovanelli and Rutger Hauer ('Hobo with a Shotgun'). Head below to check out the new trailer....

Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Jessica De Gouw in Dracula (2013)
Dracula 3D Isn't Quite Campy Enough
Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Jessica De Gouw in Dracula (2013)
The connection between sex and death announces itself throughout all vampire movies. Yet few takes literalize the link as brazenly as Dario Argento's Dracula 3D, a camp-fest that plays like a paean to the schlockier aspects of Argento's '70s horror heyday, evincing a B-movie attitude toward gratuitous nudity and illogical gags (though if you've ever wanted to see the Count turn into a gargantuan preying mantis, buckle up: This Dracula can become any creature he desires). Curious embellishments aside, Argento's narrative hews closely to the original novel, with Dracula (Thomas Kretschmann, grandiose) imprisoning librarian Jonathan Harker (Unax Ugalde) and then going after his wife (Marta Gastini). With the juxtaposition of Dracula's ornate home with his vicious tendencies (the Co...

Dracula 3D Review
Say it ain’t so Dario, say it ain’t so. Once upon a time, I thought the worst thing that could happen to vampires was Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight plight, but since seeing Dracula 3D, I know more threats to the vampire genre lurk in the shadows besides Mormon writers. Sadly, Dario Argento’s latest directorial effort shows no signs of the influential director of old, coming off as a campy SyFy type movie with so many downsides that it’s hard deciding where to start. Mr. Argento, I respect your name and legacy, and acknowledge everything you’ve given to the horror genre, but out of respect to you, if you’re reading this, I sincerely suggest you stop reading right now. It only gets worse – oh, so worse.

Argento’s story about Count Dracula (Thomas Kretschmann) starts with young Jonathan Harker (Unax Ugalde) traveling to Transylvania, joining...

Behold the Trailer for Dracula 3D
I’m not going to pretend that Dracula 3D is going to be a blockbuster or an Oscar contender, but there is a place for the B sci-fi movie that embraces its B-ness. And I really get a kick out of a good B vampire movie now and again. As long as you go into this movie prepared I think it will be highly enjoyable.

Trailer: Dracula 3D

Keep in mind also that this movie is not to be confused with the television show Dracula starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers or the movie Dracula Untold (also recently known by the titles Dracula and Dracula Year Zero). Lots of different Draculas happening these next few months.

Dracula 3D starring Thomas Kretschmann, Marta Gastini, Asia Argento, Unax Ugalde, Miriam Giovanelli, and Rutger Hauer is slated to hit theaters, Video on Demand and iTunes October 4, 2013.

Dario Argento’s Dracula 3D was acquired by IFC Films last year and they’ve announced a VOD and limited theatrical release date for the movie. We’ll see the movie released to VOD and a limited number of theater locations on October 4th, according to Fangoria. It’s also being reported that the title has been changed to “Argento’s Dracula.” There’s no word on a Blu-ray/DVD release, but we should hear about it later this year.

“The tale begins with Jonathan Harker, journeying by train and carriage from England to Count Dracula’s crumbling, remote castle situated in the Carpathian Mountains on the border of Transylvania. The purpose of his mission is to catalogue the big library of Dracula. At first enticed by Dracula’s gracious manner, Harker soon discovers that he has become a prisoner in the castle. Dracula 3D 'Burning' and 'Bite' Clips
Dracula 3D (2012)
IFC Midnight has debuted two clips from Dracula 3D, the latest from horror legend Dario Argento. Unax Ugalde stars as Jonathan Harker, who leaves his fiancee Mina (Marta Gastini) behind to work for Count Dracula (Thomas Kretschmann). The first scene features Rutger Hauer as vampire slayer Van Helsing, who comes to ward off Lucy, played by the director's daughter, Asia Argento. The second clip is restricted to those over the age of 18, featuring Harker and the new vampire Tania (Miriam Giovanelli), who is determined to please her new houseguest.

‘Dracula 3D’ Clips Showcase Dario Argento’s Horrific Vampire Legend
Dario Argento – a master of horror? Perhaps at one point. The Suspiria and Inferno director is gearing up for the Us release of his latest, Dracula 3D, but after catching these two clips of the film, you may want to steer clear of the 2013 IFC Midnight entry. It’s pretty horrific – and not in the way you’d want or expect.

The film is a wildly unique spin on the Dracula legend. Jonathan Harker (Unax Ugalde) leaves his fiancée, Mina (Marta Gastini), to go to work for Count Dracula (Thomas Kretschmann), but soon comes to realize the Count is actually holding him prisoner. Desperate to see her husband, Mina comes to town for a visit, but not only can she not get in touch with Jonathan, she must tend to her good friend Lucy (Asia ...

He also begins to see disquieting facets of Dracula’s nocturnal life. One night while searching for a way out of the castle, and against Dracula’s strict admonition not to venture outside his room at night, Harker falls under the spell of three wanton female vampires,...

Watch Two Clips from Dario Argento's Dracula 3D
We now have two clips from Dario Argento's Dracula 3D to share with you (consider them Nsfw), you can find them in the players inside.

Asia Argento, Marta Gastini, Rutger Hauer, Thomas Kretschmann and Unax Ugalde star in this re-telling of Bram Stoker's classic tale which is opening in Italy soon.  IFC picked the film up for a U.S. release.

I don't know, guys, this movie is looking rough.  It looks very "television" - the lighting isn't helping and the production design looks cheap.  I'm trying not to knock it before I've tried it, but...ouch.

Read our set report right here.

Cannes Review: Tits, Teeth, and Rutger Hauer in Dario Argento’s ‘Dracula 3D’
Sitting in a theater watching a fair few people walk out in protest at the poor quality of Dracula 3D, you have to wonder whether they knew anything about horror legend Dario Argento, and if so what exactly they expected from the director whose name alone guarantees an audience. Because Argento has a certain set of skills, which aren’t necessarily reconcilable with what is great about film these days, but to give due credit, he hasn’t really deviated from the same tracks for decades, and the result is generally an entertaining affair all the same. This time out he’s taken the iconic Dracula story on, giving horror’s most famous character (played here by Thomas Kretschmann) his first 3D treatment, and adding a few other brand new touches to the iconic story of how the Count tricked Jonathan Harker (Unax Ugalde) into working for him in order to take his wife Mina (Marta Gastini) for...

Cannes 2012: Watch the Trailer for Dario Argento's 'Dracula 3-D'
I can't really say I was expecting much, but the trailer for Dario Argento's Dracula 3D doesn't have me interested in the slightest. Lame CG effects are one thing, but I don't see anything that would make me think Argento was coming at this age old story with anything other than the 3D gimmick. Starring Thomas Kretschmann as Dracula, Asia Argento, Marta Gastini, Unax Ugalde, Miriam Giovanelli and Rutger Hauer as Van Helsing, the film appears to be no more than the traditional take on Bram Stoker's "Dracula" with awful CG effects and very lame line-reading. The pic is set to be screened as part of the Midnight selection at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and will have its first screenings on Sunday, May 20, but I can't really say I'm going to make it a priority. I have a feeling it would be more fun to walk around the...

First Pictures from Michael Haneke's 'Amour,' Dario Argento's 'Dracula 3D' and Matteo Garrone's 'Reality'
Publicity for the films that will be playing at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival is beginning and I have just received three new images from three anticipated films playing the fest. I'll begin with the above shot from Michael Haneke's Amour, which stars Emmanuelle Riva and Jean-Louis Trintignant as a pair of cultivated, retired music teachers. Their daughter (Isabelle Huppert), who is also a musician, lives abroad with her family. One day, Anne has an attack after which the couple's bond of love is severely tested. Alexandre Tharaud also stars. Based on the synopsis, there isn't really much this film can likely convey in terms of pictures, though I do expect Darius Khondji, who also served as Haneke's cinematographer on his English-language remake of Funny Games, will deliver some images well worth looking at. Thomas Kretschmann and Marta Gastini in Dracula 3D

Dario Argento in Dracula 3D (2012)
Casket Load Of “Dracula 3D” Pics And New Teaser Trailer
Dario Argento in Dracula 3D (2012)
Italian maestro Dario Argento’s latest is Dracula 3D, starring Rutger Hauer as Van Helsing, Asia Argento as Lucy, Marta Gastini as Mina, Unax Ugalde as Johnathan Harker, and Thomas Kretschmann as Dracula. The film, shot in Hungary last year, is reported to be more Hammer than Coppola, and judging by footage shared thus far, it certainly does look like a violent and sexy take on the classic tale.

A few months back we shared the first footage of the picture, and today a new teaser trailer was released, giving a little further insight into Argento’s vision. In addition, 40 (!) images have been released, a nice mix of stills and production shots, that tell the real story of just what is in store with this controversial outing from “Italy’s Hitchcock.” The film is set for release later this year.
