French Canadian horror 5150 Elm’S Way: Review
Director: Eric Tessier. Review: Adam Wing. A French language Canadian horror movie set at the end of a quiet street in a small town - a street that just so happens to have the word ‘Elm’ in the title. Alarm bells should be ringing already for Yannick (Marc-André Grondin), an intelligent teenager who stumbles upon the Beaulieu residence after a biking accident. Jacques (Normand D’Amour) insists that Yannick has knocked at the wrong house, but nothing can prepare him for the terror that waits behind door 5150. Jacques is a psychopath and a fanatic, determined to rid the world of evil. His wife Maude (Sonia Vachon) has long put up with his physical abuse, but stays with her murderous husband to ensure the security of their youngest daughter Anne (Élodie Larivière), a tormented child suffering since birth from severe mental illness. Oldest daughter Michelle (Mylène St-Sauveur) is following in her fathers footsteps,...

DVD Review: 5150 Elm’s Way
5150 Elm’S Way (aka 5150, Rue Des Ormes)

Stars: Marc-André Grondin, Normand D’Amour, Sonia Vachon, Mylène St-Sauveur | Written by Patrick Senécal | Directed by Éric Tessier

Chess is a game of war. It’s a battle of strategies where only one side can win. What happens when chess becomes an obsession, a means to even argue the right to kill all because of a game that must always be won? What will that obsession do to your life? That is the question posed in 5150 Elm’s Way.

Yannick Bérubé is just a nice guy who falls off his bike on the wrong street. Knocking on a door to try getting help he finds himself dragged into a world of kidnap, torture, insanity, murder and above all chess. He is imprisoned by Jacques Beaulieu who prides himself on his unbeaten run as chess champion. Jacques has a secret though, and that is he’s a killer.

On the Set of Upcoming Film 'Le sens de l'humour'
Production on the upcoming film Le sens de l'humour has been over since last month. While no trailer isn't available, we've got a visit on the set of this film. Moreover, Le sens de l'humour will be released in Quebec on July 8, 2011.

This film is the second collaboration between Michel Côté, Louis-José Houde and director Émile Gaudreault. In fact, we remember them for having worked together on the comedy De père en flic, which holds the box office record for the most profitable Canadian film in Canada (not the world, mind you) with $11 million.

The story follows two comedians who decide to work together. Needless to say that these two guys will have success. One day, they make fun of a member of the audience. However, that person turns out to be a serial killer.

Finally, the film also stars Anne Dorval, Pierrette Robitaille, Benoît Brière, Zaccari-Charles Jobin, Luc Senay,...

'5150 rue des Ormes' on DVD in France on Sept. 21
According to Amazon.fr, a website that allows you to buy DVD online, the Canadian thriller 5150, Rue des Ormes (5150 Elm's Way), an adaptation of Patrick Senécal's bestselling novel, will be released on DVD in France on September 21.

Here's the description of the synopsis taken from a review I wrote:

Yannick Bérubé (Marc-André Grondin) just got accepted at a cinema school. After he had moved in an appartment, he begins to film his first film project for school. While he was bycicling in a residential neighbourhood, Yannick falls of his bike. Because of the scratches on his hands and his elbow, he asks Jacques Beaulieu (Normand D'Amour), a cab driver who is not on a shift, to call a cab for him.

Since he has to wash the blood off his hands, Yannick does the mistake of entering Jacques's house. Furthermore, because he discovered an agonizing man kept in an empty room,...

30th Genie Awards: Denis Villeneuve's Polytechnique Leads Canada's Oscars Noms
It's one of those years where the great Atom Egoyan's contribution to cinema is totally insignificant (Adoration received 2 noms) and where Denis Villeneuve's Polytechnique, in my books the best Canadian film of the year, grabbed the high count total of eleven nominations for the 30th Genie Awards. - It's one of those years where the great Atom Egoyan's contribution to cinema is totally insignificant (Adoration received 2 noms) and where Denis Villeneuve's Polytechnique, in my books the best Canadian film of the year, grabbed the high count total of eleven nominations for the 30th Genie Awards. What is somewhat odd is how Canada's most internationally celebrated film in I Killed My Mother (J'ai tue ma mere) from Xavier Dolan receive not one single vote, a crime when you consider the textured writing, fluid cinematography and the brilliant performance from Anne Dorval - who plays the neurotic mother...

5150, Rue des Ormes (5150 Elm's Way)
Don't miscontrue my words: I'm a total fan of Patrick Senécal's novels and I own all of them. However, the mention of Éric Tessier, the director who slaughtered Sur le seuil, in the credit left me icy. Honestly, 5150, Rue des Ormes sure has its strong moments, but it remains an entertaining film at most.

Yannick Bérubé (Marc-André Grondin) just got accepted at a cinema school. After he had moved in an appartment, he begins to film his first film project for school.
