I first discovered After Midnight (1989) during my freshman year of college. There at I Luv Video was this VHS tape that gave me nostalgia for a movie I actually hadn’t seen yet. The woman on the cover, a character played by Jillian McWhirter, was quite literally trapped in time, and the tagline beneath her fiery fate read: “Anything Can Happen in the Dark.” As it turned out, my little case of memory distortion was rather fitting; this movie starts off with someone having a vague recollection, albeit of a terrible event.
Growing up I had passed by After Midnight many times at my local video shop, but it wasn’t until some years later that I gave it a watch. And after witnessing the nightmarish fate of those college students enrolled in The Psychology of Fear, I was hooked. Jim and Ken Wheat’s movie — their horror debut as...

Kill Krites.
After kicking off August with discussions of Paul Morrissey’s Udo Kier-starring vehicle Blood for Dracula (listen) and Julia Ducournau’s confronting Raw follow-up Titane (listen), we’re dialing things back a bit with a comfort watch of Stephen Herek‘s 1986 cult classic (and franchise originator) Critters!
Critters sees an fuzzy alien race known as the Krites flee a prison asteroid and land next to a farm in the small town of Grover’s Bend. Kansas. The farm belongs to the Brown family — Jay (Billy Green Bush), Helen (Dee Wallace), their daughter, April (Nadine Van Der Velde), and their son, Brad (Scott Grimes) — and they must fend off the malevolent little critters with the help of two alien bounty hunters with superhuman abilities.

DiCaprio's first-ever movie, "Critters 3," received a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 3.4/10. Critics panned the low-budget horror film, but it served as DiCaprio's film debut. DiCaprio's performance is rarely the issue in his "rotten" movies. DiCaprio's most recent "rotten" film, "Don't Look Up," received a 55% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an average rating of 6.3/10. While some critics appreciated the clever premise, many felt that the execution fell flat.
In Leonardo DiCaprio's vast film catalog, eleven of the movies he starred in have "rotten" critical scores on Rotten Tomatoes. DiCaprio is among the best actors in film history, and certainly one of the finest still working today. He’s starred in countless phenomenal movies and worked with powerhouse movie directors like Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg, and so many others. As some of you fellow horror movie fans out there might already know, this summer an all-new Critters movie is headed our way on digital and Blu-ray starring the original film's actress Dee Wallace (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial). And today Wallace spoke a bit about what enticed her to return to the franchise all of these years later for director Bobby Miller's Critters Attack!.
"I was so happy when they sent me the reboot of Critters. My first question was is this going to be CGI? And they said no, [they] were going to use a lot of the original design of the puppets. It's all going to be puppets. And I went, 'oh, let me read the script.' I liked the script, and I liked my part in it - she's a real ball-buster - but my first concern was if this was going to be CGI. Because in a film like that,...

Here comes 'Bride' on Lifetime
Luke Perry, JoAnna Garcia, Helen Shaver and Kenneth Welsh have signed on to star in the holiday telefilm A Very Merry Daughter of the Bride, set to air in December on Lifetime.
The movie, set at Christmastime, centers on Roxanne (Garcia), a twentysomething wedding planner who disapproves of her widowed mother Rose's (Shaver) whirlwind romance with a middle-aged businessman, Jack (Welsh).
Roxanne tries to find a way to persuade her mother that the upcoming wedding is a bad idea and partners with Jack's disgruntled son Charlie (Perry). But an unexpected romantic development forces Roxanne to re-examine her feelings.
Leslie Hope is directing Bride from a script by Scott Eastlick and Nadine Van Der Veld. The movie is from Nomadic Pictures, with Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev producing.
Garcia -- known for her role as Reba's daughter Cheyenne on Reba, which airs in syndication on Lifetime -- co-stars in CBS' new comedy Welcome to the Captain, which debuts Feb. 4. She is repped by WMA and 3 Arts Entertainment.
