From Freedom Fighter to Blacklisted 'Subversive'; Henreid Takes a Last Bow Tonight
Paul Henreid in ‘Casablanca’: Freedom Fighter on screen, Blacklisted ‘Subversive’ off screen Turner Classic Movies’ Star of the Month of July 2013, Paul Henreid, bids you farewell this evening. TCM left the most popular, if not exactly the best, for last: Casablanca, Michael Curtiz’s 1943 Best Picture Oscar-winning drama, is showing at 7 p.m. Pt tonight. (Photo: Paul Henreid sings "La Marseillaise" in Casablanca.) One of the best-remembered movies of the studio era, Casablanca — not set in a Spanish or Mexican White House — features Paul Henreid as Czechoslovakian underground leader Victor Laszlo, Ingrid Bergman’s husband but not her True Love. That’s Humphrey Bogart, owner of a cafe in the titular Moroccan city. Henreid’s anti-Nazi hero is generally considered one of least interesting elements in Casablanca, but Alt Film Guide contributor Dan Schneider thinks otherwise. In any case, Victor Laszlo feels like a character made to order for Paul Henreid,...

Sean Stone Talks Greystone Park, on Blu-ray and DVD October 16th

Anyone who listens to Alex Jones knows that Sean Stone is a very interesting and outspoken individual. He started acting in his dad Oliver Stone's films at a very young age, and has since grown into a prolific documentarian, director and writer who makes his fictional feature debut with Greystone Park, on Blu-ray and DVD today, October 16th.

While Greystone Park is a scripted thriller based on a true story, quite a few of the scares we see on screen came from actual events that took place during the shooting of this found footage hybrid. Sean not only writes and directs, but he also stars as himself, one of three filmmakers who set out to investigate the real life Greystone Park, an abandoned insane asylum located in New Jersey.

We recently caught up with Sean to talk about the film,...

Sean Stones Greystone Park Release Date Plus DVD Artwork Revealed
To bring originality to the found footage genre is a challenge in itself. Due to the sub-genres simplistic style and minimal cost productions it's a no brainer for smaller production companies to get involved with but bringing the intended scares to its audience can still escape the director. Hopefully helmer Sean Stone, son of filmmaker Oliver Stone, can bring a fresh perspective with his directorial feature debut 'Greystone Park'. The movie stars Stone along with Antonella Lentini, John Schramm, Monique Zordan and Monique Van Vooren as well as appearances from writer Alexander Wraith and Sean's father Oliver Stone. The supernatural horror will arrive on VOD across the Us from 13 September and subsequently on DVD from 16 October, courtesy of XLrator Media. Check out the plot details and DVD artwork below....

Flesh For Frankenstein Review Pt.2 – Joe Dallesandro, Udo Kier, Monique van Vooren
Monique van Vooren, Joe Dallesandro, Flesh for Frankenstein Flesh For Frankenstein Review Part I But Monique van Vooren's performance as the Baroness stands out as the funniest, as throughout the film she resonates a mix of aristocratic propriety and unadulterated lust. For instance, the Baroness looks disgusted at the stable-boy's ostentatious sexual display, all the while plotting to get the young, opportunistic slab-of-beef into bed with her. In another scene, while the stable-boy is busy telling her about his decapitated friend, the Baroness, oblivious to such boring conversation, hungrily slurps and licks her way around his armpits. Also hilarious is Udo Kier's Baron Frankenstein, whose big, piercing, icy-blue eyes penetrate every gaze and whose Slavic accent consistently confuses his v's with his w's. Much to his credit, Kier plays his role with the right amount of conviction; after all, his Baron is a man-of-science who takes his gruesome job quite seriously.

Flesh For Frankenstein Review d: Paul Morrissey
Flesh For Frankenstein / Andy Warhol's Frankenstein (1973) Direction and Screenplay: Paul Morrissey Cast: Joe Dallesandro, Udo Kier, Monique van Vooren, Dalila Di Lazzaro, Arno Juerging, Srdjan Zelenovic, Nicoletta Elmi, Marco Liofredi, Liù Bosisio Highly Recommended Monique van Vooren, Joe Dallesandro, Flesh for Frankenstein The first time I saw Flesh for Frankenstein was during its theatrical release in 1973, when it was titled, Andy Warhol's Frankenstein. Warhol, of course, had little to do with the production besides lending his name to it. The real genius behind Frankenstein and its follow-up, Andy Warhol's Dracula, was Paul Morrissey. [Antonio Margheriti aka Anthony M. Dawson's contributions to the film are unclear.] The original Frankenstein release was in glorious 3-D, with special visual effects by Robert V. Bernier and Carlo Ramboldi. Maybe it's because I find it less distracting, but I prefer the (2D) DVD issue better. That's because the film's dark humor comes through without [...]...

Sean Stone to Put the SecretStone to Us
The question beckons - can superior filmmaking ability be transfer from father to son? We can only hope. We are sure to find out soon enough as Sean Stone, son of acclaimed director Oliver Stone, brings us his new horror flick SecretStone!

The news comes by way of Variety (which seems to be on a tear today). The film is young Stone's (pictured right) feature film debut and will tell the tale of a group of filmmakers who are shooting inside a haunted psychiatric hospital famous for its radical treatment of patients. They quickly discover they are not alone.

Considering most young directors make their jumping off point with our beloved splatter-filled genre, this makes perfect sense. Let's just hope that he hangs around a while. The film stars Stone himself along with his co-writer Alexander Wraith and Antonella Lentini. It also features a cameo from screen legend Monique Van Vooren.

Oliver Stone Jr. To Direct First Feature Film
Sean Stone will embark on a new journey as he makes preparations for his first feature film, Shadowland. The movie is already being compared to The Blair Witch Project; it is about the mental hospital where John F. Kennedy's sister, Rosemary, was tragically lobotomised and rendered incapacitated at a young age.

Continuing their close artistic relationship, both son and dad will act in this film, reprising their real-life relationship. Monique van Vooren, who had a part in Oliver Stone's first film, will also take part in Sean's project.

Oliver Stone Jr. To Direct His First Feature
Nepotism is a bad, bad word in Hollywood. Some decide to go the legal route to avoid the accusations, instead taking the last name of a Marvel superhero (cough, Nicolas Cage, cough), while some wear their surname like a badge of honor (Sofia Copolla, Breck Eisner, Charlie Sheen, etc.). Whether justifiable or not, the offspring of successful filmmakers are always dogged by the idea until they establish their own talent. Enter Sean Stone. The New York Post says Sean, son of Oliver Stone, has been hired to direct his first feature film, Shadowland. A horror movie about the asylum where Rosemary Kennedy was lobotomized, Sean is also set to star and Oliver will play his father. Monique van Vooren, who played a role in Wall Street, is also attached. So is this nepotism or talent? Let's run the list, shall we? Act in your parent's films? Check (eleven times). Make...

Joan Rivers Locked In Bitter Battle With Love Rival
Joan Rivers in The Apprentice (2004)
Acid-tongued TV personality Joan Rivers is locked in a bitter catfight - with a woman now dating her ex-fiance. The outspoken star was horrified to learn that her former lover, banking heir Orin Lehman, is now enjoying a relationship with former screen star Monique Van Vooren - and she chose Howard Stern's controversial New York radio show to express her disgust last week. Rivers accused Lehman of spending his time with "Euro-trash hookers" while on air. In retaliation, Belgian-born van Vooren fumes, "I guess all those face-lifts have gone to her head. She may have once been funny, but now she's just being cruel and making herself an object of scorn. She's one to talk. She's got more miles on her than an old Checker cab. As for dear Orin, he's been a friend of mine before Rivers came along, while they were together and after he wisely dumped her."...
