10 Years Later, Halle Berry's Criminally Underrated Sci-Fi Series Is Finally Returning to Streaming
Image
Halle Berry stars in Extant as astronaut Molly Woods, who returns home inexplicably pregnant after a space mission. The series received critical acclaim but still got canceled after two seasons in 2015. Extant will be available for streaming on Netflix starting August 18, marking its first time on the platform.

With over three decades of noteworthy performances under her belt, Halle Berry is an established figure in Hollywood who has also been a recipient of multiple major awards, including an Academy Award, an Emmy, and a Golden Globe Award. She found her breakthrough in the 1992 romantic comedy Boomerang, in which she costarred with Eddie Murphy, leadingto tons of acclaimed projects. One such production is the forgotten and undervalued critics’ favorite, Extant, which aired on CBS in the mid-2010s.

Created by Mickey Fisher, the sci-fi series premiered on CBS on July 9, 2014, and concluded after two seasons on September 9, 2015. Ten years later, it...

The 15 Best Episodes Of ER, Ranked
Image
It's not an exaggeration to say that "ER" is one of the most revered television shows of all time. Considered the gold standard of TV medical dramas, "ER" most certainly paved the way for contemporary medical series such as "Grey's Anatomy," the only such show that boasts more episodes. The recipient of 23 Emmy awards over 15 seasons, "ER" has been equally lauded for its writing, acting, medical accuracy, and high-quality production.

Accolades aside, "ER" leaves an imprint on anyone who watches it, though its popularity has waned in recent years. Thankfully, with the massive success of "The Pitt," produced by "ER" star Noah Wyle alongside Scott Gemmill and John Wells, "ER" has gained a new wave of fans experiencing the show for the first time.

While many "ER" fans prefer the first several seasons, "ER" was always good, even a dozen seasons in, and it was very often great. What follows...

Steven Spielberg & Halle Berry's Sci-Fi Show Extant Finds New Home on Netflix
Image
A 2014Steven Spielberg sci-fi mystery series, starring Halle Berry, is making its way to streaming, 10 years after it was cancelled. As one of the greatest directors of all time, Spielberg is known for his Hollywood blockbuster movies, but has also pivoted into producing TV shows, particularly science-fiction shows, including Taken, Fallen Skies, and Under the Dome.

These shows had varying degrees of success, but Spielberg has continued to be a prominent force in the world of science fiction film and television. Berry is one of the most prominent and successful actresses in the industry, and is also best known for her roles in movies, but has had a strong turn in TV shows as well.

Despite being prominent figures in Hollywood, Berry and Spielberg have only worked together once, and this came with a highly underrated 2014 sci-fi drama, which also marked Berry's first regular role in a TV show. And now,...

Ahead of ‘Practical Magic 2,’ Its 26% Rotten Tomatoes Prequel Will Enchant Its Way to Another Streaming Home
Image
Months after Practical Magic debuted on HBO Max, where it instantly became a favorite among subscribers, the 1998 fantasy pic has found another streaming home. Starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters Sally and Gilly Owens, it was released on October 16, 1998, and later landed on HBO Max on October 1, 2024, where it climbed to the #5 spot the following day. Even so, the film was not much of a success either critically or commercially, considering its worldwide earnings of $68.3 million against a $75 million budget and its rotten 26% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite flopping, the romantic drama has already received the sequel treatment, scheduled to premiere on September 18, 2026. As fans gear up for its arrival, Hulu plans to add the original to its platform starting August 1. The magical film will join numerous other classics also debuting on the same day, including 10 Things I Hate About You and another Bullock-starrer, 28 Days.

’Practical Magic’s Evan Rachel Wood Reveals Why She Won’t Be Returning for the Sequel
Image
Not everyone may be obsessed with the era of sequels and reboots, but at least fans get to see their favorite classics return in an all-new form, usually with the original stars, on either small or large screens, or even both. One such classic is the bewitching 1998 pic Practical Magic, which is getting the sequel treatment but won’t be released till the fall of 2026. While fans eagerly anticipate, we have a major casting update, which comes not long after two major returnees joined the enchanting sequel.

So far, a few original stars have already been confirmed to reprise their roles in Practical Magic 2, including the leading duo, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, who portray sisters Sally and Gilly Owens. And just last weekend, Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing were announced as returnees too, playing the Owens aunts, Jet and Franny. With the latest addition, many wondered if Evan Rachel Wood...

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman in Practical Magic (1998)
Evan Rachel Wood was not asked back for Practical Magic 2
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman in Practical Magic (1998)
Last year, it was officially announced that Warner Bros. is moving forward with a sequel to the 1998 film Practical Magic, with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprising the roles of sister witches Sally and Gillian Owens. Producer Denise Di Novi has promised that the sequel, which is aiming for a September 18, 2026 theatrical release, will honor the original and not attempt to reinvent the wheel – but that doesn’t mean they’re bringing all of the original cast members back. Evan Rachel Wood, who played Sally’s daughter Kylie in the original film, has confirmed that she will not be back for the sequel. But her absence from the film was not her choice.

The Hollywood Reporter caught Wood’s confirmation on her Instagram Stories. She wrote, “I am getting asked about this a lot, so l’ll just clear it up now; I was not asked to come back and...

‘Practical Magic 2’ — Everything We Know So Far
Image
Something magical is brewing over at Warner Bros. Last year, it was first announced that Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock were nearing a deal with the studio to make a long-awaited follow-up to their witchy 1996 romantic fantasy “Practical Magic.” Then, teases trickled out for a few months before, and unexpectedly, WB dropped a teaser on social media in May, sending fans into a whirlwind.

The original film, which did not make a profit in its initial theatrical run, went on to become a staple of aughts cable television, brewing up generations of fans and becoming a cult favorite.

The logical next question, then, was who — besides the now-Oscar-winning Kidman and Bullock — would be returning to the quaint Owens sisters’ Massachusetts home for the next adventure. In 1998, the cast included Goran Visnjic, Dianne Wiest, Stockard Channing, Aidan Quinn, Evan Rachel Wood, and Margo Martindale. Visnjic’s character, Jimmy, would seem unlikely...

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman in Practical Magic (1998)
Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing reprise their roles for Practical Magic 2, additional cast announced
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman in Practical Magic (1998)
A couple months ago, it was reported that the sequel to Practical Magic was adding Joey King to the cast. Now, Deadline has more casting updates for the witchy installment. Firstly, in addition to Bullock and Kidman’s return, Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are now slated to reprise their roles in Practical Magic 2. Per Deadline, the actresses played “Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny, the eccentric and wise matriarchs who took in witch sisters Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman) following the death of their parents and taught them everything they know about magic, mischief, and self-reliance.”

More known names have also been added to the cast, including Lee Pace (Foundation), Maisie Williams (The New Look), Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle), and Solly McLeod (The Dead Don’t Hurt). Their roles have yet to be announced. Producer Denise Di Novi has promised that the sequel, which is aiming for a September 18, 2026 theatrical release,...

7 Movies to Watch if You Liked ‘Echo Valley’ on Apple TV+
Image
Directed by Michael Pearce (Beast), Echo Valley (2025) is a brooding psychological thriller that unfolds in the eerie quiet of rural Pennsylvania. At its heart is Julianne Moore as Kate Garretson — a grieving widow clinging to her crumbling horse farm and haunted by the emotional wreckage of her past. When her estranged daughter Claire (Sydney Sweeney) arrives with a suspicious tale of accidental murder, Kate is drawn into a spiral of deception, violence, and maternal desperation. With standout performances from Domhnall Gleeson and Fiona Shaw, the film explores themes of grief, addiction, motherhood, and moral compromise. It’s a slow-burn thriller where trauma simmers beneath every scene, culminating in a suspenseful finale that raises questions about forgiveness and letting go.

If you’re looking for movies like Echo Valley — stories steeped in maternal turmoil, isolation, and morally grey decision-making — here are 7 powerful films that echo (pun intended) its dark emotional landscape.

“He’s Going to Hell”: ‘Leverage: Redemption’ Boss Reveals the Question They Will Never Answer About Eliot
Image
There’s a part of Eliot’s (Christian Kane) past that the crew of Leverage: Redemption has no idea about, and it has to do with one of the villains from the original TNT series Leverage. In Season 3 of the prequel, unbeknownst to the others, Eliot worked for Damien Moreau (Goran Visnjic), and he once hinted as much, explaining at the time to his teammates that he’d been trying to protect them, which he saw as his job. Still, we never found out what exactly he did for Moreau, and it seems like that question will never be answered, according to the reboot's showrunner.

In the “The Big Bang Job” episode of Leverage Season 3, Eliot revealed to the crew that the worst thing he had ever done in his life was for Moreau, and he’ll “never be clean of that.” But when thief Parker (Beth Riesgraf) asked what he did,...

‘Leverage: Redemption’ Boss Reveals the Question That Will Never Be Answered About Eliot
Image
Back during Leverage‘s original run on TNT, its third season villain was financial mastermind Damien Moreau (Goran Visnjic). What the others didn’t know until they’d actually encountered him was that their hitter, Eliot Spencer (Christian Kane), once worked for him. In “The Big Bang Job,” which aired in 2010, Eliot explained to the others — mastermind Nate Ford (Timothy Hutton), grifter Sophie Devereaux (Gina Bellman), thief Parker (Beth Riesgraf), and hacker Alec Hardison (Aldis Hodge) — that he’d been trying to protect them, which he saw as his job. Though Nate thought they could handle Moreau, Eliot disagreed. “We’re out of our league, Nate. Every one of Moreau’s men has innocent blood on their hands. Every one of them. Every one of them are worse than me. You think you know what I’ve done? The worst thing I ever did in my entire life, I did for Damien Moreau.

4 Eric Kripke shows to watch (and 2 to skip)
Image
When it comes to showrunners, Eric Kripke is one of the most consistent. You know what to expect, and if you don’t, then you haven’t seen enough of his content. He’s a lover of urban myths, history, and downright absurdity, and he’s also a man who likes to create something timely and timeless all at the same time.

The majority of people will know Kripke for his CW series Supernatural, but he has worked on many other shows and movies before that. Since his Supernatural days, he’s become a creator to watch out for, but that doesn’t mean everything he’s made is something you need to watch right now. Although I’ll admit that it was hard to put a show to skip on this list.

A Fan Favorite The Pitt Star Doesn't Remember Crossing Paths With Noah Wyle On ER
Image
There's a lot to love about the new hit Max medical drama "The Pitt." The series was created by "ER" producer R. Scott Gemmill and follows one 15-hour shift at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's emergency room, led by senior attending Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch (Noah Wyle) and charge nurse Dana Evans (Katherine Lanasa).

Each episode is one hour in the shift, making for an incredible sense of urgency that mimics the life-or-death nature of actually being in an emergency situation, and having some cast members with real-life experience helps keep it all authentic. In addition to casting medical professionals as some of the background actors, there are also some former "ER" stars, like Wyle and Shawn Hatosy, who plays night shift attending Dr. Jack Abbott. And, it turns out, everyone's favorite charge nurse also had a short stint on the classic NBC series.

Lanasa appeared in the season...

The Pitt’s Katherine Lanasa Recalls Her Week on ER — But Does She Remember Meeting Noah Wyle?

Long before she charmed audiences as Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center charge nurse Dana Evans, The Pitt’s Katherine Lanasa guest-starred on Noah Wyle’s previous medical drama, ER. Funnily enough, though, she has no memories of encountering TV’s erstwhile John Carter during her one-week stint at Chicago’s Cook County General.

“I don’t even think I met Noah [at the time],” Lanasa tells TVLine. “I remember I met Maura Tierney. She had done NewsRadio with Vicki Lewis, and I was on this NBC show called Three Sisters with Vicki Lewis, so we had that connection.”

Loki is one of those shows that can’t quite fit into one genre. Yes, it’s a Disney Plus series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it is so much more than that.

The TV series includes time travel, alternate worlds, saving universes, and so much character development that it’s hard to find something just as good. This is a story where the villain becomes the hero, continuing a journey started before his death.

Sam Worthington was on the verge of homelessness when he was awarded the biggest role of his lifetime. Despite being turned away from franchises like DC and James Bond, he had found a home in the otherworldly realm of Pandora in James Cameron’s unique, transcendental, visionary epic, Avatar. But the rejections of the past still bear a mark on Worthington’s career.

Much has been said about the actor’s time as a finalist in the 007 race. Reports about his “self-sabotage” perked up interest and raised some eyebrows among the fans of the franchise who were on the lookout for their next Bond. Among contestants who were equally qualified for the role, Daniel Craig rose as the sure winner.

And though there was much outcry and belligerence among the fans at first, Craig proved himself beyond doubt and not only transformed the...

Practical Magic 2 | Susanne Bier in talks to direct
Sandra Bullock
Practical Magic 2 is getting closer to production, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are onboard, Susanne Bier is in talks to direct.

It was confirmed last year that Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are in talks to reprise their roles for a sequel to the 1998 fantasy Practical Magic. Akiva Goldsman will return to write the script. Alice Hoffman, who wrote the original novel in 1995, also published a sequel called The Book Of Magic in 2021.

Based on the 1995 novel by Hoffman, Practical Magic put a slightly different spin in the romantic drama. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman play witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, whose family has been plagued for generations by a curse that kills any man they fall in love with. They have to use their magic to destroy the spirit of Gillian’s abusive boyfriend.

The film also starred Goran Visnjic, Stockard Channing, Dianne Wiest and Aidan Quinn.

Timeless: Real Reason Why the Show Was Canceled After 2 Seasons

Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan brought Timeless to NBC in October 2016, capturing a small but passionate fanbase with its unique and intriguing storyline. The show followed thrilling time-travel adventures but, unfortunately, faced a short-lived journey itself.

Despite an intriguing story and devoted fans, the series was canceled after two seasons. Interestingly, this wasn’t its first cancellation, as it had been briefly canceled before being revived for a short time.

Timeless was almost canceled after one season

Timeless centers on a trio of time travelers: Lucy Preston, a history professor played by Abigail Spencer, Wyatt Logan, an Army Master Sergeant played by Matt Lanter and Rufus Carlin, a skilled time machine pilot played by Malcolm Barrett.

Together, they chase Garcia Flynn played by Goran Višnjić, a terrorist who steals a futuristic time machine, the Mothership, and begins altering key moments in history.

5 sci-fi/fantasy shows that were canceled too soon
Image
Some shows are canceled way before their time, leaving us with major cliffhangers and questions. The axe can often come for sci-fi and fantasy shows, since they often have bigger budgerts than other kinds of series. We’re looking back at five shows that were canceled way too soon.

In some cases, these shows just needed another few episodes of a movie to wrap things up, or maybe they got their chance to finish things but didn't do in a way that did the rest of the show justice. In some cases, they wrapped things up well, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want more.

2024 saw some major cancellations. However, this list will take us back a few years (or even decades)!

The Oa

This Netflix series deserved better. The Oa was always intended to be a five-season show, and you could tell. Netflix feared that the...

An Oral History of the ‘Midnight Margaritas’ Scene in ‘Practical Magic’

Even if you haven’t seen Practical Magic — the 1998 fantasy film starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as cursed sister-witches — you know the “midnight margaritas” scene. It happens shortly after Gillian and Sally Owens (Kidman and Bullock, respectively) accidentally murder Gillian’s abusive boyfriend Jimmy Angelov (Goran Višnjić). They revive an even worse version of Angelov from the dead, kill him again with a frying pan, and frantically cover up their crime. You know, normal witch stuff.

Practical Magic Ending Explained
Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Practical Magic.

When Practical Magic first hit theaters on October 16, 1998, it received mixed reviews and didnt break even on its budget, but over the years, it developed a cult following that helped it become known as one of the best witch movies. Beyond the interesting story about a family curse, magic, and romance, part of what keeps people returning to Practical Magic is its star cast which includes Sandra Bullock as Sally Owens and Nicole Kidman as Gillian Owens. At its core, Practical Magic is about sisterhood, with Bullock and Kidman developing great chemistry.

Unfortunately, it was the only time the two stars shared the big screen, which made it even more special. With Practical Magic 2 recently announced, Kidman and Bullock will hopefully reunite onscreen as the Owens sisters. Little has been revealed about the sequel yet, but Practical Magic is worth the...

A Cult Sandra Bullock & Nicole Kidman Movie Is Getting A Second Life On Max
Image
When Griffin Dunne's "Practical Magic" was released in 1998, the film was critically panned. The reason behind such a negative critical reception can be traced back to a discombobulating mix of genres that make up the whimsical plot, which combines serious drama with supernatural fantasy while mimicking tropes of a crime procedural. There is also something incredibly comical about the premise, which quickly takes a left turn when a family curse assumes centerstage. Although "Practical Magic" might have been dismissed for embracing such jarring tonal shifts back in the day, the film is getting a second life on HBO Max, as the Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman starrer is currently among the HBO Top 10 U.S. Movies list (via FlixPatrol). This sudden resurgence might have something to do with Halloween season, or that a sequel might be on the cards soon, but it is clear that we yearn for more...

I Cant Believe It Took 26 Years For Nicole Kidmans $75M Horror Movie On Streaming To Finally Get A Sequel
Image
Many movies get sequels many years later, but in some cases, like that of Practical Magic, its hard to believe that it has taken so long to finally get a second part. There are movies that didnt do well with critics and at the box office during their initial release but ended up gaining a cult following as years passed and such is the case for Practical Magic. Directed by Griffin Dunne and based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Alice Hoffman, Practical Magic took viewers to a small town in Massachusetts to meet the Owens family.

The Owens women carried a curse that doomed any man an Owens woman loves, leading sisters Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian (Nicole Kidman) to see love in very different ways. Now a widow and living with her daughters and her aunts, Sally reunites with Gillian to use their magic together to...

There's a Joyousness to That Movie: Practical Magic Sequel Will Honor the Original Movies Themes
Image
Practical Magic producer Denise Di Novi has opened up about the upcoming sequel to 1998s romance fantasy movie. Despite initially receiving mixed reviews, the film went on to become a cult classic among fans due to its timely themes.

During a recent interview with People, Di Novi assured that Practical Magic 2 would honor the legacy and themes of the original movie, while delivering something different for fans to enjoy. She stressed that the sequels creative team is adamant on retaining the things that people had loved from the first installment. "I think the big mistake people make with sequels is when they kind of want to reinvent the wheel and be totally original and surprise people that it's different or whatever," Di Novi said. "[The team] gets how important the first movie is to so many people, women in particular, and we want to honor that for sure."

Now producer Denise Di Novi has given an interview to People where she promised that the new film will honor the original and not attempt to reinvent the wheel.

Based on a novel by Alice Hoffman and directed by Griffin Dunne from a screenplay by Robin Swicord, Akiva Goldsman, and Adam Brooks, Practical Magic revolves around two witch sisters, Sally Owens (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman), who live in a small town alongside their eccentric Aunt Frances (Stockard Channing). Practical Magic 2 Producer Explains What the Movie's Really About
Image
It's been 25 years since Practical Magic was released, and it's become one of those quirky movies that slowly solidify their place in the hearts of many families. Like a cross between Hocus Pocus and The Gilmore Girls, the film blended supernatural fantasy with light-hearted comedy and romance, fronted by a truly winning cast Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Evan Rachel Wood, Stockard Channing, Alexandra Artrip, Aidan Quinn, and more. Now, Bullock, Kidman, and original producer Denise Di Nova are back and teasing the upcoming sequel. Di Nova, celebrating her first gallery show as a painter, spoke with MovieWeb about the Practical Magic sequel.

"I think we know what people love about the movie," explained Di Nova, "but thankfully, the fans are very expressive. If you looked at TikTok after the announcement, you'd know. I think we've had a lot of time to think about why that movie is still so resonant for people.

The Real History Behind Vikings: Valhalla
Image
Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Season 3 of Vikings: Valhalla.Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 is now available to stream on Netflix. Creator Jeb Stuart never hid away from the fact that, though this show requires a huge amount of research (with the help of Vikings history specialists working on the show), it was also his job, as a storyteller, to fill in the gaps, to mix up the dates and the characters' relationships to deliver an understandable and entertaining story to the audience. Now that we can learn what happens to Freyds Eirksdttir (Frida Gustavsson), Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett), and Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter) after the terrible battle of Kattegat at the end of Season 1, we thought we would take a moment to find out if the London Bridge collapsed as shown in the first season, or if Leif and Harald's brotherhood was as strong in real life, or yet,...

Practical Magic 2 Will Adapt Alice Hoffman's The Book of Magic Novel
Image
A sequel to the 1998 romantic fantasy film Practical Magic is currently in the works at Warner Bros. While very little plot information was released when the follow-up was announced, producer Denise Di Novi says that the movie will remain rooted in the source material.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Di Novi revealed that the plot will draw heavily from Alice Hoffman's 2021 novel, The Book of Magic. "I think [fans are] going to be very pleased. We're going to be very faithful. We're cognizant to how important those characters and that movie are to so many people," Di Novi explained. "We're not going to reinvent the wheel. We're going to draw from Alice Hoffman's books, as the first movie did, and we're going to be true to the chronology of how many years later it is."

‘The Boys’ Actors Who Have Appeared in Marvel Films & TV Shows

We know that The Boys is one of the most popular comic book series of all time, which is mostly due to the TV series being exceptionally popular; this, of course, increased the popularity of the comic book as well. At the same time, Marvel is one of the two biggest comic book publishers in the world, and The Boys is, in part, satirizing their work as well.

While these two have very little in common in terms of their plots and characters (aside from the fact that some of The Boys characters are parodies of Marvel’s characters), there are several people that connect the live-action adaptation of The Boys, as well as the live-action and animated adaptation of Marvel’s comic books.

The Boys Season 4 Episode 6 Review: Prime Video Series Spins Its Wheels As It Crawls To Its Endgame
Image
Warning! Spoilers for The Boys season 4, episode 6 below.

The Boys season 4, episode 6 highlights flaws as it heads towards a conclusion, with Butcher weighing the choice of using the Supe virus and risking genocide. Joe Kessler is revealed to be a hallucination, and Butcher may be getting ready to make major sacrifices in the last two episodes of season 4. The episode's political commentary feels like a copy-paste of real-world situations, leaving The Boys spinning its wheels towards an endgame.

Despite a few major revelations, The Boys season 4's episode 6 is the series at its most reductive, highlighting some of its flaws as it heads towards a conclusion. We get another classic sting operation for the titular team as Tek Knight holds a gathering of rich right-wingers who will be pitched on Homelander and Sister Sage's plan to take over the United States.

The Boys Season 4 Episode 4 Review: Sister Sage's Lobotomy Was Delightfully Disgusting (& The Best Scene)
Image
Warning: This post contains spoilers for The Boys season 4, episode 4

The Boys season 4, episode 4 feels like a mid-season slow burn, setting the stage for future episodes. Homelander's midlife crisis adds depth to his character, showing a new side beyond his sociopathic tendencies. Sister Sage's character development and disturbing relationship with The Deep make her a standout in season 4.

The Boys season 4 came out of the gate with three episodes that, while entertaining, felt like much of the same. That's not always a bad thing Prime Video's superhero satire is still able to find humor in the bleak politics of our times, and its action remains as violent and nasty as ever. Four seasons in, though, the superhero spandex is wearing a bit thin from overuse.
