Mark Harmon in NCIS | Credits: CBS

A power move or pure defiance? Either way, it was a turning point in their rocky relationship, leading to Bellisario’s controversial exit. Turns out, the drama behind NCIS was just as intense as the show itself.

Mark Harmon’s silent rebellion: The NCIS scene that ended Don Bellisario’s reign

The tension between Mark Harmon and NCIS creator Don Bellisario was a full-blown standoff. Bellisario claimed it all boiled down to one scene where Harmon’s special agent, Leroy Gibbs was traveling to his hometown to meet his aging father. Bellisario admitted (per LA Times),

I asked Mark to re-shoot a scene. He...

NCIS Season 22s Potential Return Means a Lot More Than You Think
Image
Throughout the 22 seasons of NCIS, the series has always excelled when it brings in the main characters' family members as guest stars. With fan favorites like Ralph Waite's Jackson Gibbs and Robert Wagner's Anthony Dinozzo Sr., these roles have contributed to the development of the core team. They also provide insight into whom these characters were before joining NCIS, and presents a side of them they don't often show at work. A recent example of this on NCIS is the introduction of Jessica Knight's (Katrina Law) sister, Robin Knight (Lilan Bowden). Making her debut in the NCIS Season 20 Thanksgiving episode, Robin is shown to be a free spirit with a new fianc much different than Jessica's serious by-the-book approach to life.

‘NCIS: Origins’ Showrunners Break Down Premiere, That Different Abbreviation & What To Expect From Young Gibbs
Image
Spoiler Alert! This story contains details from the two-part premiere of NCIS: Origins on CBS.

The origin story of Leroy Jethro Gibbs has finally begun: CBS kicked off its much-anticipated prequel Monday from veteran NCIS writers-producers Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North, as well as CBS Studios. And as promised, Mark Harmon returned to both narrate and to appear fireside as he journals about his life.

Here, Monreal and North breakdown the two-part premiere that follows a young Gibbs (Bridge of Spies‘ Austin Stowell) as he starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling Nis Camp Pendleton office.

Deadline How much does the average viewer of NCIS know about Leroy Gibbs?

Gina Lucita Monreal I think it varies, but our hardcore fans know a lot. We’re trying to strike a balance between those hardcore fans and hopefully new fans who know nothing. That’s the line we’re walking.

10 episodes of NCIS to watch before NCIS: Origins and why
Image
NCIS: Origins is debuting, so here are some classic NCIS episodes to watch to get ready for it!

NCIS fans have long been missing Agent Jethro Gibbs. The heart of the series since it debuted as a backdoor pilot on Jag, Gibbs was loved for his stern demeanor, dedication to his job, sometimes wry humor and tragic backstory of losing a wife and child. Mark Harmon made the character beloved, so it was a shock when Gibbs opened Season 19 by quitting to retire to Alaska.

Fortunately, Harmon will be returning to the franchise in a unique way. NCIS: Origins takes us back to 1993 with Austin Stowell playing a younger Gibbs joining the agency and how he became the agent we know. It looks to be an intriguing spin on the franchise and to prepare for it, these episodes are must-watch to see what parts of Gibbs' life can come to play.

'We Did Solve It': NCIS: Origins Showrunner Clears Up Potential Plot Hole
Image
NCIS: Origins co-showrunner David North promises the series has a solution for a concerning plot hole.

Per TVLine, North addressed the concern that the upcoming prequel series will have to navigate one of NCIS' lead character Jethro Gibbs' most defining characteristics - the relationship with his father, Jackson. "We did solve it," North said. "We're very aware of the canon and what's been set up, and we're working within that. But I'll say this: Jackson (to be played by Longmire's Robert Taylor) is an important role, and we'll see the influence of him on Gibbs."

One NCIS: Origins' Casting News Can Make Harmon's Most Painful Loss Sadder
Image
NCIS: Origins casting a new actor for a young Jackson Gibbs will dive into the heartbreaking moments of Mark Harmon's character's life in 1991. Robert Taylor joins the cast as Gibbs' father, adding depth to Gibbs' backstory before joining NCIS. NCIS: Origins will likely explore the devastating aftermath of Gibbs' wife and daughter's deaths, focusing on their funeral, which Jackson was confirmed to attend.

A piece of NCIS: Origins casting news can worsen a sad story for Mark Harmon's Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Tackling the origins story of the former McRt leader with the agency, the new CBS spinoff has tapped Austin Stowell to take over the role. Still, Harmon will provide the narration for the series. Since some of Gibbs' backstory is known, the '90s-set NCIS: Origins will build on critical moments for him. It can bring more depth to Gibbs' flashbacks in the flagship NCIS and introduce moments...

NCIS: Origins Showrunner Addresses Potential Plot Hole Involving Gibbs' Dad
Image
NCIS: Origins co-showrunner David North has addressed concerns that the show featuring Gibbs' father would be a plot hole. He said that the creators are aware of the canon of NCIS, which is that Gibbs and his father have not spoken since his wife Shannon's funeral. This quote may indicate that the show largely involves Jackson Gibbs in flashback sequences.

A potential NCIS: Origins plot hole involving Gibbs' father has been addressed. The upcoming show is a prequel to the iconic crime procedural following the early years of long-running major character Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, now played by Austin Stowell, though original star Mark Harmon is set to provide voiceover narration for the series. Young versions of other characters from the original cast will also appear in the NCIS: Origins show, including Kyle Schmid as Gibbs' mentor Special Agent Mike Franks (originally played by Muse Watson) and Robert Taylor...

The Waltons Cast Deaths & Who's Still Alive
Image
The Waltons was a beloved '70s drama series with a long-lasting impact on pop culture. The cast includes both actors who are still active in the industry and those who have since passed. Richard Thomas and Michael Learned continue to act, while others like Ralph Waite have sadly passed away.

The Waltons was a long-running drama series from the '70s with an ensemble that is obviously now much older in the 21st century, but which includes many actors who are still alive and active in the industry - and a few who have, sadly, passed. The 1970s were filled with some influential and some forgettable series, and The Waltons has become an iconic part of pop culture. The story of the rural Virginian family during the Great Depression and WWII era is a charming and warm tale, even if it's been slightly lost to time.

The NCIS: Origins cast added another big piece of the puzzle.

With the series' roots stemming back all the way to one of the most hated episodes of "The Twilight Zone" in history, references to "The Waltons" have extended all the way to films like 2016's "The Nice Guys," where Matt Bomber's villainous Dr. Malek is given the code name "John Boy" as he shares a similar facial birthmark to John-Boy actor Richard Thomas.

Created by Earl Hamner Jr., "The Waltons" centered on the titular family in rural Virginia during the Great Depression and World War II, based on Hamner Jr.'s book "Spencer's Mountain." With a...

New TV movie ‘The Waltons’ Homecoming’ celebrates 50th anniversary of Emmy-winning drama ‘The Waltons’
Image
There seems to be a yearning for nostalgia in entertainment these days, given that our daily headlines are rarely upbeat and heartwarming, what with the country’s deeply ingrained political divisions as well as the ongoing threat of the Covid-19 pandemic. That might be why TV execs have been capitalizing on their audience’s hunger for comfort viewing with revivals of hits from past, ranging from “Sex and the City” and “Dexter” to “The Wonder Years” and “Gossip Girl.”

However, this holiday season will get a one-night only treat when the CW presents a new version of an early ‘70s classic, “The Waltons’ Homecoming.” The two-hour film that airs on November 28 at 8 p.m. features actor Richard Thomas, who played John-Boy in the original CBS TV series that premiered in 1972 for nine seasons and launched six more reunion movies for NBC. Thomas will take over the narrating duties that were...

The Waltons Movie Holiday Special Will Have a Homecoming on The CW
Image
The CW is rebooting The Waltons, giving the wholesome fictional family new life 50 years after they first appeared on television. In the spirit of the holiday season, the network has just announced three new specials to be released in the fourth quarter of this year. Along with The Waltons' Homecoming, other projects to be announced include the animated projects The Scooby-Doo Reunion Special and Beebo Saves Christmas.

A complete reboot with no connection to the original series, The Waltons' Homecoming will mark the 50th anniversary of The Homecoming: A Christmas Story. That was the TV movie that served as the launchpad for The Waltons by introducing the family to TV audiences in December 1971. It was not initially intended to spawn a TV series, but the success of the movie resulted in the show entering production at CBS. It spanned nine seasons and spawned several movies that continued the story.

Per THR,...

Image
To celebrate Mother’s Day 2020, TVLine is catching up with iconic TV moms from well-remembered series of the past.

First up is The Waltons‘ Michael Learned, who as Olivia Walton lorded over a brood of seven kids, with husband John (played by Ralph Waite), in Earl Hamner Jr.’s TV adaptation of his novel Spencer’s Mountain. Following the titular family in rural Virginia during the Great Depression and World War II, The Waltons ran for nine seasons (starting in 1972 on CBS) and spawned a half-dozen TV-movies — the last of which, A Walton Easter, aired in April 1997.

'Bones' Says Goodbye After 12 Seasons: A Look Back at Brennan and Booth's 22 Best Episodes
David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel in Bones (2005)
Bones signs off on Tuesday, after 12 seasons of crime solving, evidence examining, blood, guts and, most importantly, bones. But at the core of the long-running Fox procedural -- the “heart of the matter,” if you will -- was a partnership between forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz).

From their first episode together, Brennan and Booth’s dynamic was electric, and while the will-they-or-won’t-they of it all took nearly seven seasons to sort out (more if you count that they don’t actually tie the knot until season nine), their relationship kept fans hooked for all 245 episodes. We watched Brennan wrestle with her feelings as Booth looked for love, saw them lay it all on the line only to yank it back again, and finally, at long last, got to witness their happy ending. Two kids and countless hurdles later, they’re still going strong.

So, as we...

Bones Round Table: Is Max Dying?
It was Brennan’s 40th birthday but the surprise was on her friends on Bones Season 12 Episode 2.

Below, TV Fanatics Ashley Bisette Sumerel and Christine Orlando are joined by Bones fan, Pam, to debate Brennan’s jealously, Max’s future, and whether they’d want an Ami of their own after “The Brain in the Bot.”

Did you believe that Brennan was actually jealous of Daisy and Angela’s success?

Ashley: I did at first, but then I started getting suspicious about halfway through that Brennan actually had something to do with it for both of them.

Pam: Yes, I bought into it as this has been her character. I like that she is written that way, but was happily surprised to find she is changing over time. It is not only refreshing but very sweet. She continues to delight and surprise her family and friends, and above all the audience.

15 Invaluable Lessons from the Grandparents on 'Bones'
David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel in Bones (2005)
Sometimes it takes a lifetime to figure out the most important lessons in life. The grandparents on Bones have their own way of sharing that wisdom with those they love. Max Keenan (Ryan O'Neal), Marianne Booth (Joanna Cassidy), Hank ?Pops? Booth (Ralph Waite) and Angela?s father (Billy Gibbons) may not be conventional grandparents when you consider they include a criminal, an estranged mother, a parent surrogate, and a gritty guitarist whose name is never mentioned onscreen. However, they are wonderful disseminators of Bones? unique brand of logic and love.

Question: Any scoop about Castle? —Fred

Ausiello: The finale — which is supposed to delve into both Castle and Beckett mythology — will feature a “distinguished, highly intelligent” psychiatrist. What say you, Mitovich? “Perhaps the shrink is a means to pull out of Rick any repressed memories about his ‘missing’ months?'” Yep, that sounds about right.

NCIS Boss Previews February Sweeps, Hints at a Finale That May 'Rattle' You

This Tuesday at 8/7c, CBS’ NCIS kicks off its February sweeps run, during which TV’s most watched drama will tackle a sensitive topic, do some mourning, delve into Dinozzo’s past and, on a lighter note, throw a party in that big orange room.

Showrunner Gary Glasberg gave TVLine a week-by-week peek at what to expect.

“We Build, We Fight,” airs Feb. 3 | Directed by cast member Rocky Carroll, this hour revolves around the murder of an openly gay and married Medal of Honor recipient. Was it a hate crime? “The story twists and turns, and of course we go down that road,...

'NCIS' Season 12 Premiere Recap: Can the NCIS Team Save Gibbs and McGee in Time?
Wilmer Valderrama, Rocky Carroll, Gary Cole, Katrina Law, Sean Murray, Brian Dietzen, and Diona Reasonover in NCIS (2003)
Last season was a turbulent one on NCIS. The show was faced with the challenge of writing off the character of Ziva David and adding the character of Nsa analyst, and new NCIS "probie," Eleanor "Ellie" Bishop (Emily Wickersham). While the finale is usually a cliffhanger, last season NCIS instead paid homage to the death of actor Ralph Waite, who portrayed Gibbs' father, Jackson Gibbs. It was an emotional episode that, in my opinion, is hard for true fans of the show to forget.

This season of NCIS kicks off with "Twenty Klicks," which finds Gibbs and McGee going to Russia to bring home an NCIS computer specialist with classified information when their mission goes awry.

Ziva's Possible Return and 6 More Teases for NCIS' New Season
As NCIS chugs into its 12th season Tuesday (8/7c, CBS), creator Gary Glasberg says he's taking a back-to-basics approach for the upcoming year. After so many major event episodes last season — the departure of Ziva (Cote de Pablo), the introduction of Bishop (Emily Wickersham), the NCIS: New Orleans backdoor pilot, and a tribute episode to Ralph Waite — Glasberg says he's excited to be entering a more character-driven run.

NCIS' Sean Murray Previews 'Classic' Season 12, McGee/Gibbs Bonding

Coming off of what showrunner Gary Glasberg has called a “tumultuous” Season 11 — during which two casting changes took place, the seeds were planted for a New Orleans spin-off and the passing of Ralph Waite was written in — CBS’ NCIS is back in “classic” form, Sean Murray tells TVLine.

The Season 12 opener (airing Tuesday at 8/7c) thrusts Murray’s McGee into a Russian hot zone with boss man Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon), paving the way for the introduction of a new adversary. Here, Murray previews all that and more.
