Sam Esmail intended his cult hit USA Network series, Mr. Robot, as a feature film initially. He soon realized, midway through writing the script, that it had expanded considerably. Esmail shared during an interview that he was fascinated by the hacker culture and wanted to make a project that accurately represented it. He found that a TV series format was best suited for his story.

The series, starring Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek and Christian Slater, explores the story of a hacker with social anxiety disorder, clinical depression, and dissociative identity disorder. Mr. Robot ran for five seasons, with Esmail serving as the writer and director of multiple episodes in addition to his showrunning responsibility.

Tom Wlaschiha and Jazzy de Lisser (“Game of Thrones”) have joined the cast of Viaplay’s major English-language original feature “Hilma.” The film is written and directed by Lasse Hallström, the Oscar-nominated director of “The Cider House Rules” and “My Life as a Dog.”

The biopic, which explores the life of revolutionary Swedish artist and feminist pioneer Hilma af Klint, will bow this fall in theaters and on Viaplay, Scandinavia’s leading streaming service.

Wlaschiha stars as Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian artist and founder of the anthroposophical spiritual movement. Steiner became a key figure and mentor for Hilma af Klint who created more than a thousand striking paintings, sketches and watercolors that remained largely unknown until decades after her death.

The film explores the enigmatic life of Klint, who navigated through a male-dominated artistic scene to eventually become one of the Western world’s first abstract artists.

Exclusive: Mr Robot actor Martin Wallström has signed on to star opposite Aníta Briem in her Icelandic relationship drama series As Long As We Live, which is going into production after Swedish SVoD service C More boarded the production.

Filming will begin this summer after C More did a deal with Sweden-based distributor Eccho Rights to join Icelandic broadcaster Stod 2 and producer Glassriver on the show, which Briem created based on her own personal story.

Katrín Björgvinsdóttir, who directed on the latest season of Balthasar Kormakur’s Icelandic crime series Trapped, directs all six episodes of As Long As We Live. The show be shot in 70 shot in English and 30 in Icelandic.

Wallström starred opposite Rami Malek in all four seasons of USA Network’s Mr Robot and appeared in four Beck movies. He is also starring in another upcoming C More show – an adaptation of Jo Nesbø’s Headhunters.

Jo Nesbø’s Headhunters is returning to screens, this time as a TV series for Sweden’s C More and TV2 Norway starring Betrayed’s Axel Bøyum and Mr Robot’s Martin Wallström. Yellowbird Norway is behind the adaptation and Endeavor Content will handle global sales outside the Nordics.

Headhunters, which was made into a highly-rated Norwegian film 10 years ago (pictured) also by Yellowbird and directed by Morten Tyldum, follows a headhunter lying and manipulating his way to success both in his career and in his love life. But one lie leads to another, and soon he is so entangled in his own stories that it becomes a danger to both himself and the people around him.

“That lady is wearing a wig!” is the first thought that comes to me at the start of Parallel… Shortly thereafter, the film throws up an interesting conceit and, aside from the wig, this film is extremely professionally made. It is a sci-fi mind bender with similar ambition to Looper.

A group of friends have created a parking app, and they are trying to seal the big deal, but it all goes wrong, and they lose out. The banter among the gang is believable and funny. The characters are likable and believable as people. There is a bouncy, fun, Ocean’s 11 vibe to a lot of the gang’s hijinks.

Parallel is a new sci-fi from Mexican filmmaker Isaac Ezban, and features Swedish actor Martin Wallström in the leading role, and to we had the pleasure of speaking to the actor to mark the film’s release. Wallström talks to us on Zoom about the project and what lured him in, and compares himself to his character and how vital it is that he is able to understand the motives (some of which are questionable to say the least). We also ask him about his time spent on Mr. Robot alongside Academy Award winner Rami Malek, and ow sad he was for that experience to end – though he admits it was the right time. Some things you should never do. Go back in the water when the local mayor declares the shark nothing to worry about. Stay in the kitchen while your best friends head off to track down the knife-wielding maniac. Or, in my own case, agree to watch (and review) any film with horror in the write-up. Because horror and I are not good bedfellows.

Occasionally, though, I allow my optimism to get the better of me and…I dare! Which is why I ended up watching Parallel. This tells the story of four millennials, Noel (Martin Wallström from Mr. Robot), Devin (Aml Ameen from I May Destroy You), Leena (Georgia King from Devs) and Josh (Mark O’Brien from Ready Or Not). Under intense time pressure to deliver on an It project, they find a strange mirror in a hidden attic. How strange? Well, the mirror is a doorway: a portal to another parallel.

Vertical Entertainment has dropped the first trailer for the sci-fi thriller Parallel from The Realm, a division of Bron Studios. The film stars Martin Wallström (Mr. Robot), Aml Ameen (I May Destroy You), Georgia King (Devs), and Mark O’Brien (Ready Or Not) and focuses on four friends who stumble upon a mirror that serves as a portal to a “multiverse.” They soon discover that importing knowledge from the other side in order to better their lives brings increasingly dangerous consequences.

The film will be released in theaters and on demand on December 11, 2020.

The movie will release in theaters and on demand on Dec. 11.

“Parallel” follows four friends who find a mirror that serves as a portal to a “multiverse.” But they quickly find out that getting information from the other side to better their lives can have lethal consequences. The cast includes Martin Wallström (“Mr. Robot”), Aml Ameen (“I May Destroy You”), Georgia King (“Devs”) and Mark O’Brien (“Ready or Not”).

The movie marks the English-language feature debut for Ezaban, a Mexican director known for “The Incident” and “The Similars.”

“‘Parallel’ is a film that blends genres — science fiction, horror, and even comedy — in a uniquely satisfying way,” said Rich Goldberg, co-president of Vertical Entertainment. “The ensemble cast features some fresh new faces on the brink, and we’re happy that the film will be opening this December.

It eventually became, fairly enough, a hallmark for narrative and directorial excess. But the series, about Elliot, a hacker attempting to remake America, had the real-life effect of remaking the USA Network, shifting the cabler conclusively away from its previous model of sunny workplace dramedy. Its broader implications included the launches of executive producer Sam Esmail, with Amazon’s “Homecoming” and USA’s forthcoming “Briarpatch” to his credit, and star Rami Malek. And its conceit, that the world is governed by entities interested in seeding chaos for their own benefit, has seemed more urgent since the show’s 2015 premiere. The near-perfect first season had the right talent and the right timing.

Exclusive: Ashlie Atkinson (BlacKkKlansman) is set as a series regular opposite Rami Malek and Christian Slater on the upcoming fourth and final season of USA Network’s Mr. Robot, from creator Sam Esmail and Universal Content Prods.

Mr. Robot stars Oscar winner Malek as Elliot Alderson, a cyber-security engineer who becomes involved in the underground hacker group fsociety, after being recruited by its leader (Slater).

Atkinson will play Janice, a chatty taxidermist with a peculiar sense of humor.

The series co-stars Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin, Martin Wallström, Grace Gummer, Michael Cristofer and Bd Wong.

Aktinson last year starred in Spike Lee’s and Focus Features’ Oscar nominated film, BlacKkKlansman and also was recently seen in the Netflix film Juanita alongside Alfre Woodard. The first teaser for the fourth and final season of “Mr. Robot” is out, and the series is looking as intense as ever.

The teaser for the USA Network show doesn’t shed much in the way of plot information, but the somber music and lighting certainly fit the series’ bleak tone. An unseen woman questions series protagonist Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek), asking him how many people he has hurt to get what he wants.

Alderson doesn’t answer, but there’s no doubt that many people have suffered over the last three twisty seasons of “Mr. Robot.” Malek plays a vigilante hacker with dissociative identity disorder and a host of other mental illnesses, and his efforts to free the American public from debt spirals into all sorts of chaos. Drug use, corporate rule, economic collapse, and similarly heavy themes are pervasive throughout the series, which has won two Emmys.

The long-awaited final season of “Mr Robot” is getting closer, with USA announcing on Wednesday that the Sam Esmail-created hacker drama will return in the fall.
