4 upcoming fantasy shows we’re way more excited for than the new Harry Potter
Image
The new Harry Potter TV series is one of the most highly anticipated new fantasy adaptations in a very long time for most fans of the genre. I can't say I share that sentiment. While I'm happy for all of the new cast and crew getting new opportunities in the space, the new Harry Potter series is quite low on my list of fantasy shows I'm excited to watch right now!

Unfortunately, there aren't that many big, new, and true fantasy shows in the works right now. It's definitely an interesting time for the genre! Fantasy shows like House of the Dragon and The Rings of Power are performing well right now. Other big shows with fantasy elements, like Stranger Things and Wednesday, are wildly popular as well. And, still, Prime Video just canceled The Wheel of Time in the middle of an epic run. Outside of that, more fantasy...

Fourth Wing fans can finally relax after a promising Amazon update
Image
Fourth Wing is one of the most highly anticipated fantasy TV adaptations in the works right now. Fans can't wait for the upcoming Amazon TV series based on Rebecca Yarros' first book in The Empyrean series.

For the first time in a while, we have an update to share from Amazon about the hit series. While it's not a "here's when Fourth Wing is coming out," you can tell Amazon cares about how fans feel about this series.

In a Deadline interview, Amazon TV boss Vernon Sanders wouldn't share where exactly things stand with Fourth Wing, but he did make a promise to fans.

Here's what Sanders said:

"We don’t have news to report yet, so I won’t be breaking anything here, but we’re hard at work. We love our relationship with Rebecca Yarros, who has been incredible, and we’re going to get this one right.

8 fantasy books to read Asap before they get adapted
Image
Avid book readers who like being able to boast they read the book before the movie (or the show) should take heed of the following list, because several notable fantasy novels are receiving adaptations soon! Before Fourth Wing soars onto TV and Percy Jackson braves the Sea of Monsters, make sure you read the novels ahead of time so you understand the author's original creative vision.

With studios snatching up book rights all the time, it can be hard to keep tabs on which projects are actually happening and which get stuck in development hell. Every book on this list has an adaptation that has either finished filming or is in the works.

Fourth Wing TV series eyes WandaVision creator as showrunner
Image
Rebecca Yarros’ bestselling fantasy-romance novel Fourth Wing is being made into a TV show at Amazon MGM Studios, and esteemed Marvel showrunner Jac Schaeffer is being tapped to become showrunner!

Fourth Wing became a breakout fantasy novel in 2023, thanks largely to exploding in popularity on TikTok. A fantasy series leaning heavily into romance, the novel follows Violet Sorrengail, a young woman forced to enter a war college, Basgiath, where she vies to become a dragon rider...but in order to do so, it takes brutal training that could easily result in death.

Rebecca Yarros is not messing around with these books, collectively known as The Empyrean series. She's already published an enormous sequel, Iron Flame, and the third novel, Onyx Storm, debuted earlier this year. The series is planned to last for five books. There's already so much story for an adaptation to cover.

As for Amazon's adaptation, it is...

One Of Amazon's Best Upcoming Wheel Of Time Fantasy Replacements Just Got A Massively Disappointing Update
Image
Amazon's best replacement for The Wheel of Time has suffered a major setback in the development phase. Earlier this year, The Wheel of Time, based on the bestselling epic fantasy book series by Robert Jordan (finished by Brandon Sanderson), was surprisingly canceled after season 3, despite the latest outing's major storytelling improvements and high ratings from audiences and critics alike.

Sadly, The Wheel of Time never managed to overcome the growing pains of its first season, and Amazon canceled the show due to low viewership. Naturally, Amazon Prime Video is now looking to get the ball rolling on another fantasy series, one which has the potential to become a much bigger hit: Fourth Wing, based on Rebecca Yarros' mega-selling Empyrean romantasy series.

Fourth Wing follows 20-year-old prospective student Violet Sorrengail as she enters Basgiath War College, a competitive, do-or-die setting in which hopeful cadets prepare themselves to be magically bonded to...

Fourth Wing series gets one step closer to green light after eyeing new showrunner
Image
The highly anticipated series adaptation of Rebecca Yarros' best-selling new adult fantasy romance novel Fourth Wing hasn't had a significant update in quite some time, but we finally have some exciting news to share with fans awaiting their chance to binge-watch. Filming hasn't started just yet, but we're once step closer to the show moving forward after gaining a rumored new showrunner.

Last summer, Netflix's Anne with an E creator Moira Walley-Beckett was named the showrunner if the in-the-works Fourth Wing series adaptation. But on July 1, news broke that Walley-Beckett has departed the developing series as Amazon MGM Studios pursues a new showrunner. The rumored new showrunner is someone who fans of Marvel Television shows will be very familiar with.

Amazon's Fourth Wing series scores new showrunner

Amazon’s ‘Fourth Wing’ Loses Showrunner Moira Walley-Beckett, Jac Schaeffer Eyed for Adaptation
Image
Amazon MGM Studio’s “Fourth Wing” series lost its showrunner, according to multiple media reports. Moira Walley-Beckett, known for creating Netflix’s “Anne with an E” and for being one of the writers on “Breaking Bad,” stepped away from the project after previously signing on last July. “Agatha All Along” and “WandaVision” creator Jac Schaeffer is now reportedly eyeing the project.

The project does not currently have a series order from Amazon or a cast attached.

Schaeffer’s rumored involvement comes as she’s reportedly signed a deal with the studio. She’s also not the only one who has been added to the project. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s Amazon MGM Studios-based Kilter Films, which has been behind series like “Fallout” and “The Peripheral,” has joined the project alongside Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society. Outlier has been part of the “Fourth Wing” adaptation since Amazon MGM...

Prime Video's Latest Epic Fantasy TV Adaptation Taps a New Showrunner Following 'Wheel of Time's Cancellation
Image
Rebecca Yarros' Fourth Wing is becoming one of the most buzzed-about romantasy series of the decade — and now the Amazon adaptation is officially in excellent hands. According to a Deadline report, Jac Schaeffer, the Emmy-nominated creator of WandaVision and Agatha All Along, is now set to serve as showrunner, executive producer, and writer on Fourth Wing.

Schaeffer joins the project as part of her new overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios. She replaces Moira Walley-Beckett, who initially boarded the show last summer. In another major move, Fallout producers Kilter Films (led by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy) have now joined Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society as production partners. So they all seriously mean business.

Adapted from Yarros’ globally beloved Empyrean book series, Fourth Wing tells the story of 20-year-old Violet Sorrengail, who is forced to abandon her quiet life as a Scribe and enter the deadly Basgiath War College...

Moira Walley-Beckett Out as ‘Fourth Wing’ Showrunner
Image
Moira Walley-Beckett is out as showrunner of Amazon’s planned Fourth Wing adaptation, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

WandaVision and Agatha All Along creator Jac Schaeffer has signed a deal with Amazon MGM Studios, and is being eyed to replace Walley-Beckett as Fourth Wing showrunner. The Fourth Wing TV project hails from Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society.

Schaeffer also wrote the Black Widow movie.

Walley-Beckett was a Breaking Bad writer and producer — she wrote “Ozymandias,” as well as a bunch of other episodes — and she created the series Anne With an E. She also wrote the Flesh and Bone miniseries and penned three episodes of NBC’s highly anticipated flameout Pan Am. Walley-Beckett signed on to showrun Amazon’s Fourth Wing last summer; Fourth Wing has not yet been ordered to series and does not yet have a cast attached.

The news comes years after the project was first announced, having since gotten stuck in development hell. Now, it would seem that the project is back on track with an exciting change.

Per Deadline, WandaVision and Agatha All Along creator Jac Schaeffer has signed an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios. As a part of this deal, she is now in talks to board the Fourth Wing adaptation as its new writer, showrunner, and executive producer. “Anne With an E” creator and “Breaking Bad” writer Moira Walley-Beckett has exited Amazon’s TV series adaptation of “Fourth Wing” after signing on as showrunner last July, Variety has learned.

‘Fourth Wing’: Jac Schaeffer Eyed As New Showrunner, Inks Deal With Amazon MGM Studios As Moira Walley-Beckett Departs Series
Image
Exclusive Updated: Amazon MGM Studios’ adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ bestselling novel Fourth Wing may be getting a big-name new showrunner. Agatha All Along and WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer has signed a deal with the studio and is also in discussions to board the high-profile romantic fantasy series project as writer, executive producer and showrunner, sources tell Deadline.

She would succeed Moira Walley-Beckett who recently left after being tapped to pen the adaptation last July. According to sources, Schaeffer is among the top names in consideration for the job, with no showrunner decision made yet.

There also has been an addition to the Fourth Wing producing team as Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s Amazon MGM Studios-based Kilter Films has joined Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, which had been on board since Amazon MGM Studios secured the rights to The Empyrean book series in 2023, along with Premediated Productions.

'Breaking Bad's Vince Gilligan Says We Need More Good Guys on Screen as Bad Guys Have “Taken Over the World”
Image
Breaking Bad writer Vince Gilligan thinks it's time for more good guys as "bad guys, the real life kind, are running amok." Rooting for, or simply sympathizing with, the bad guy has become increasingly popular, with characters like Deadpool, Tony Soprano, Rick Sanchez, and BoJack Horseman becoming household favorites despite their destructive tendencies and overall "bad guy" behavior. But no show does the antihero quite like AMC's Breaking Bad, which features Bryan Cranston as a high school teacher turned meth cooker struggling to accept his cancer diagnosis and overwhelming regrets about his past. Whether you love him or hate him, Walter White is the ultimate modern antihero.

Now, Breaking Bad writer Vince Gilligan has revealed his feelings about his most iconic, and most problematic, character. In his acceptance speech for the Writers Guild Award’s top writing honor, the Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement, Gilligan decided to "go political,...

'They've Become Aspirational': Breaking Bad Creator Wants Hollywood to Write Less Villain Stories
Image
Vince Gilligan will forever be known for creating Walter White, Bryan Cranston's Breaking Bad character who devolved from a harmless chemistry teacher into a dangerous drug kingpin over the course of five seasons. Given today's climate, however, the TV writer now feels he'd rather be known for creating someone a bit more "inspiring."

At the Writers Guild Awards on Saturday night, Gilligan was presented with the Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Writing Achievement, per THR. During his speech, he observed how he'd earned the honor by writing "one of the all-time great bad guys" by creating Walter White, also known as Heisenberg. Gilligan clarified how he feels differently these days because of the real-life bad guys "running amuck," though he stops short of naming names. Gilligan, who also co-created the prequel series Better Call Saul with Peter Gould, even called for other writers to pull back on making...

Two Breaking Bad stars have reunited 15 years after the episode that culminated with a bloody confrontation between their characters. Though a decade and a half has since passed, it would seem that now much has changed in the years since.

Dean Norris, who played DEA Agent Hank Schrader in the hit AMC drama, may have felt some déjà vu with the recent reunion. On Instagram, Norris shared a video on Feb. 2 of himself at the Swing Inn Cafe & BBQ, the restaurant he owns in Temecula, California. In the video, Norris acts concerned as he shares that one of the Salamanca brothers, played by Luis and Daniel Moncada in the series, was on his way to the establishment. Follow-up posts reveal that Luis Moncada, whose character was killed off by Norris' Hank, had arrived at the restaurant to seek "revenge." Dressing up for the occasion, Moncada even arrived in his Breaking Bad...

One Of Breaking Bad's Most Devastating Moments Only Happened Because Bryan Cranston's Co-Star Broke Character

Breaking Bad's world-changing success was built on some of the most devastating moments in TV history, but it was an accidental moment during a pivotal episode that led to one of the series' most heartbreaking scenes. Since it initially premiered in 2008, Breaking Bad has gone on to have one of television's most enduring legacies, and is considered by many to be one of the greatest TV shows of all time.

Created by Vince Gilligan, Breaking Bad's cast, led by Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, delivered incredible performances during the series' five-season run, with some truly heartbreaking moments that depend entire on their brilliance in the moment. As the seasons went on, and the stakes continued to be raised each and every time, the drama was dialed up and everything quickly became even more devastating. By the fifth and final season, everything was coming to a head, leading to...

10 Shows Like Sons of Anarchy With No Redeemable Characters
Image
Sons of Anarchy features many characters who are both fan favorites but also irredeemable. Set in a world of crime and chaos, bad situations lead to even worse choices. Before anyone realizes, things are too far gone to be saved.

Shows with no redeemable characters have their own charm. They tend to tackle dark and forbidden topics like revenge, cannibalism and war. Many shows have irredeemable characters like Jax. They may have done one really bad thing, or they have done several over the course of the entire series. From House of the Dragon to Yellowjackets to Breaking Bad, these pitch-black and morally grey characters have caused fans to think about the damning choices they made.

Walter White Is Far Gone in Breaking Bad

10 Best Female Crime Boss Characters in TV Shows, Ranked
Image
Fans of the crime and gangster genres usually have a couple of movies and shows that first come to mind. They are usually the same hits, such as Goodfellas, The Godfather, The Sopranos and Breaking Bad. All of those gangster classics have something in common with one another: they are all led by powerful men. Henry Hill, Michael Corleone, Tony Soprano and Walter White are iconic figures in the gangster genre.

However, there are equally iconic women characters in the genre that are worth mentioning. While some are driven to crime by the actions of their husbands, like Skyler White, others have greater ambitions or are willing to do whatever it takes to survive, like Teresa Mendoza and Polly Gray. All of these powerful female crime figures have the same thing in common: they run powerful criminal empires in one way or another.

Breaking Bad's Best Episode Becomes Even Better When You Learn About This BTS Detail
Image
Ozymandias is widely considered to be the greatest episode from Breaking Bads five-season run but theres a little-known behind-the-scenes tidbit that makes it even better. Season 5, episode 14, Ozymandias, is the jaw-dropping climax that Breaking Bad was building to from the very beginning. It opens with a shootout in the desert that results in Jesses enslavement and Hanks anxiety-inducing death, and it only gets more intense from there. This is the episode that brings Walter Whites criminal empire crumbling down as his family turns on him and he has to vanish with a new identity.

To this day, Ozymandias is the only television episode with a perfect 10/10 rating on IMDb, and it topped Rolling Stones 2024 list of the greatest TV episodes ever produced. The episode also swept the Emmys: Bryan Cranston scored his fourth win for Outstanding Lead Actor, Anna Gunn scored her second consecutive win for Outstanding Supporting Actress, and...

Fourth Wing's TV Adaptation Can Beat Game Of Thrones In One Massive Way
Image
Amazon's Fourth Wing adaptation will enter a fantasy TV realm where Game of Thrones is still the gold standard, but it has one advantage over HBO's hit series. The Fourth Wing TV show was confirmed just a few months after Rebecca Yarros' book of the same name, the first in the Empyrean Series, was published in May 2023, although there hasn't been too much movement on the series since then. It does have a showrunner - Moira Walley-Beckett (producer and writer on Breaking Bad) - but the actual production stage seems a long way off.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, as it will give Yarros time to finish the books, and because it's not a show that can be rushed given the extensive CGI involved, not least when it comes to the dragons. The dragons of Fourth Wing are one of the show's biggest challenges, but are also what makes it so exciting,...

10 Epic TV Finales That Left Fans Reeling

This article mentions sensitive topics like gun violence and suicide.

Some TV finales are epic in a good way. They deliver a jaw-dropping twist that leaves fans shocked but satisfied. Others, on the other hand, may go too far, either undoing the story arc or completely ruining the entire show. Dramatic TV finales don't always turn out so well.

Like Game of Thrones, some series over-deliver the shock effect and either anger or traumatize fans for life. Other series, like Lost, seem to have gotten lost on the way to a resolution. Sometimes, a show's finale lands on a cliffhanger that will never be resolved.

Massive Bestseller ‘Fourth Wing’ TV Adaptation Gets Closer to Reality: Everything to Know

Fans of dragons (and love triangles), your new TV obsession just got closer to reality. On July 21, Amazon announced that “Anne with an E” creator Moira Walley-Beckett would serve as the showrunner of its upcoming “Fourth Wing” TV adaptation.

The TV adaptation of the book world‘s biggest hit of the last few years is sure to be expensive — with a magical universe full of plenty of dragons to create. But this isn’t exactly a “Game of Thrones” ripoff, though everyone involved would of course love those fans to check it out.

“Fourth Wing” is the first book in Rebecca Yarros’ “Empyrean” series, of which two of a planned five installments have been released so far. The first dropped in May 2023, and the second, “Iron Flame,” in November 2023. The adaptation rights to “Fourth Wing” were snapped up by Michael B. Amazon MGM Studios’ ‘Fourth Wing’ Series Taps Moira Walley-Beckett As Showrunner
Image
Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth Wing is one step closer to its small screen adaptation with the addition of Moira Walley-Beckett as showrunner.

The book series, which consists of Fourth Wing published in May 2023 and Iron Flame published in November 2023 so far, follows twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail as she leaves the life of a Scribe behind at her mother’s demand that she become a dragon rider. At the order of her mother, who is a General in the military of Navarre, Violet enters the brutal ranks of Basgiath War College, which trains up-and-coming riders through the Graduate or Die method.

Before the WGA strike began last year, Amazon MGM Studios secured the rights to the book series — The Empyrean — currently being written by Yarros to turn Fourth Wing into a television series with Michael B. Jordan’s production company Outlier Society, Deadline exclusively reported.

Breaking Bad's Best Episode Director Was A Last Minute Decision
Image
"Breaking Bad" is one of the best television shows ever made — that's it, that's the tweet (never post), as the saying goes.

Across 62 episodes following cancer-afflicted chemistry teacher turned meth kingpin Walter White/Heisenberg (Bryan Cranston), the show never lost its touch. The chapters that made up the series are just as strong as their sum. Normally on a long-running show, there'll be debate over what the best episode is. Not on "Breaking Bad" though — the consensus pick for best is season 5, episode 14 "Ozymandias," where Walter White's world at last comes tumbling down. (The title references the Percy Bysshe Shelley poem about an arrogant king now buried by the sands of time.)

There's underrated "Breaking Bad" episodes people will champion. Some might also cite bottle episode character study "Fly" (directed by future "Ozymandias" director Rian Johnson) or season 4 finale "Face-Off" as close seconds. But even fans of those episodes...

What Went Wrong With Your Honor, Bryan Cranston's First "Rotten" TV Show On Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Your Honor fell short of expectations due to lackluster storytelling. Bryan Cranston faced unfair comparisons to Breaking Bad in Your Honor. Your Honor season 2 improved but couldn't secure a third season.

Your Honor was Bryan Cranston's highly anticipated television follow-up to Breaking Bad, but the series did not even come close to matching the latter's quality. After Breaking Bad wrapped, Cranston could seemingly do no wrong, having dedicated 62 episodes and five seasons to one of the greatest television series ever made and making Walter White one of television's most iconic and profound anti-heroes. Cranston starred in a few movies after Breaking Bad ended, such as 2014's Godzilla, 2015's Trumbo, and 2016's Kung Fu Panda 3 and Why Him?, and had a recurring role in Sneaky Pete.

Your Honor was expected to mark Cranston's celebrated return to starring in a television series that had many people calling it Breaking Bad's replacement in a way.

One Of Breaking Bad's Most Heart-Wrenching Scenes Was Improvised By A Baby
Image
"Breaking Bad" is one of the great television tragedies of all time, following high school chemistry teacher Walter White (Bryan Cranston) on an incredible downward spiral after he decides to start dealing meth in the wake of a devastating health diagnosis. There are quite a few truly soul-crushing moments throughout the show's five-season run because no one was really safe and major characters could get taken out in an instant — heck, even the show's beating heart, Jesse (Aaron Paul), almost bought the farm back in season 1! But one of the most heart-wrenching scenes of all has nothing to do with death, instead happening when Walt abducts his infant daughter, Holly, in the season 5 scorcher "Ozymandias."

In an oral history of the seminal episode for The Ringer, director Rian Johnson, writer and executive producer Moira Walley-Beckett, and Cranston revealed that the most devastating part of that scene was actually improvised by the child actor playing Holly,...

‘Sugar’ Star Anna Gunn on “True Gent” Colin Farrell, ‘Breaking Bad’ Reunions and Rian Johnson’s Unforgettable Gesture
Image
It had been a minute since Anna Gunn felt the anticipation of an intriguing script hitting her inbox. Understandably, the incomparable writing she received for a combined decade on Deadwood and Breaking Bad set a high bar. But then the Colin Farrell-led Apple TV+ series Sugar came along.

Created by Mark Protosevich and executive produced by Audrey Chon/Simon Kinberg, the neo-noir show ended up being one of a couple recent Breaking Bad reunions for Gunn. Co-heads of Apple TV+ programming, Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, served as presidents at Sony Pictures Television when Vince Gilligan walked through their doors with his Breaking Bad pilot script, and on top of having a hand in Gunn joining Sugar, the two executives have been busy recruiting their former Breaking Bad collaborators to their acclaimed streamer, including Gilligan and his still-untitled upcoming series; Jonathan Banks and director-ep Michelle MacLaren for Constellation...

Breaking Bad: 15 Least Popular Episodes, Ranked
Image
Many fans and critics alike consider Breaking Bad to be one of the most consistently high-quality television shows in recent history, without a bad season to its name or many episodes where the show is considered to slump. Instead, most episodes are considered to be well-written, beautifully acted, and compellingly directed.

Some episodes have to be worse than others, however, and even with Breaking Bad's typical high quality, there are a few episodes that dip below the admittedly lofty margin set by the rest of the show. Whether they stall the plot, feature disliked characters, or simply aren't as enjoyable to watch, some episodes have poorer receptions from the fandom.

Updated by Ajay Aravind on April 10, 2024: Breaking Bad is a hugely popular television show, but even it has bad episodes. New fans and longtime fans alike will be curious to know which episodes are the lowest rated according to viewer opinions,...

Better Call Saul's Saddest Record Is Much Worse When You Compare It To Breaking Bad
Image
Better Call Saul's lack of Emmy wins is disappointing, especially when compared to Breaking Bad's impressive record. Despite being hailed as a TV masterpiece, Better Call Saul failed to achieve the same level of success at the Emmys. Better Call Saul's 53 nominations without a single win seem even more egregious when compared to Breaking Bad's 12 wins out of 30 nominations.

The most disappointing record from Better Call Saul’s run – its total lack of Emmy wins – looks even worse when it’s compared to Breaking Bad’s impressive accomplishments. When a Breaking Bad spin-off about Walter White’s lawyer was first announced, it seemed like a shameless money grab that simply didn’t need to exist. But Better Call Saul ended up being hailed as a TV masterpiece. It’s at least as great as the flagship show and may be even greater as its character development...

1 Breaking Bad Character's Only Line Was Unscripted (& It Made The Ending So Much Better)
Image
"Ozymandias" is considered to be the best episode of Breaking Bad and holds the highest episode ranking on IMDb. A significant moment in the episode is when baby Holly, who typically has no active role, says her first line, "Mama," which adds to the tragedy of Walter White's character arc. The improvised line by the baby actress adds a realistic and heartbreaking element to the scene, emphasizing Walt's final decision to leave his family.

In one of Breaking Bad's greatest episodes, a minor character spoke an unexpected and improvised line that added huge value to the episode's dramatic tone. Breaking Bad marked a milestone in television history by completely changing the way audiences consume TV shows. The series quickly became one of the best TV shows of all time and managed to maintain an increasing quality throughout its five seasons, delivering incredible episodes that will always be remembered. Among these installments,...

This Breaking Bad Moment Finally Pushed Bryan Cranston To No Longer Protect Walter White
Image
A little over 10 years ago, "Breaking Bad" officially aired its final episode and wrapped up one of the all-time greatest shows of the 21st century, one that would define much of the "Peak TV" era while continuing a tradition of viewers' fascination with morally-ambiguous antiheroes on television. All throughout the show's five brilliant seasons, Bryan Cranston's steely performance as Walter White continually dared viewers to tiptoe further and further past the limits of what they'd ordinarily be comfortable accepting from a protagonist. By the time the final season rolled around, however, Cranston himself could no longer remain sympathetic to his character's cause. One moment in particular represented that point of no return.

/Film's Devin Meenan put together a wonderfully extensive oral history of how this unforgettable final stretch of episodes came together, in which he carefully documented everything from the writers' struggles to move beyond the shadow cast by...

How Vince Gilligan And Breaking Bad's Writers Cooked Up A Perfect Final Season [Exclusive Interview]
Image
September 29, 2013. On that Sunday, when the clocks hit 9:00pm Et, over 10 million viewers planted themselves before their television sets, ready to watch a new "Breaking Bad" episode for the last time. One of them was this future writer.

That 10 million strong audience sat awed as story threads — some 62 episodes in the making — were finally tied up in "Felina." Walter White (Bryan Cranston) snatched a pyrrhic victory from the jaws of defeat and made a marginal penance by accepting responsibility for his sins. Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) drove off to an uncertain freedom, ringing out with a primal howl after a series' worth of suffering.

The reviews were stellar, a flood of Emmys followed, and with "Felina" as the cherry on top to an already beloved season 5, the reputation of "Breaking Bad" as one of television's titans was secured. 10 years on from "Felina," Heisenberg is definitely a name that people remember.

Jean-Marc Vallée Honored With Moving Tribute While ‘Sort Of’ Wins Program of the Year at Banff Rockie Awards
Image
The late, great Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallée was honored in Banff with a moving tribute during Tuesday’s Rockie Awards.

The Montreal filmmaker — who is best known for directing “Dallas Buyers Club” and “Wild” along with TV series “Big Little Lies” and “Sharp Objects” — died suddenly on Dec. 25, sending shockwaves across the Canadian film industry and Hollywood. Vallée made his name in Canada with films such as “C.R.A.Z.Y.” and “Café de Flore” before transitioning into Hollywood fare.

Vallée received a post-humous Canadian Award of Distinction, with a beautifully edited reel of the director’s movies and candid moments leaving few dry eyes in the audience. The video was set to songs that were used in Vallée’s films, which relied heavily on music. (The director got his start making music videos.)

Vallée was honored by his close friend and collaborator Marc Côté, who was meant to...
