Henstridge has film and TV credits that include Would Be Kings, Commander in Chief, Diggstown and The Whole Nine Yards.

While to many it seems like Josh Hartnett is having a renaissance after his appearance in Oppenheimer, the actor states that he’s never truly taken a break, but his films were just not marquee titles. He explained, “I don’t know, it’s a narrative. We live in a world of narratives. I do it for a living. But I was making movies. Worthy films like Inherit The Viper and Oh Lucy! And a lot of really small, cool films…I would like the narrative to be more straight-up—that I was doing interesting movies, and then maybe that would draw some attention to those movies—but it doesn’t bother me. It’s nice that people have an interest and that helps me get work. But I really don’t think about it that much, honestly.”

Intro: 1815. Canadian settlers are pushing westward. A trading company has set up a fort in the middle of a vast wilderness… and now that fort is under siege. Ravenous beasts lurk in the forest, howling, scratching at the gate. These pioneers have entered werewolf territory. That’s the set-up for the most unexpected prequel of all time, Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning (watch it Here). And it’s the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw.
Creators / Cast: Director John Fawcett’s teenage werewolf movie Ginger Snaps started making its way out into the world in the year 2000. It quickly earned a cult following, and a reputation for being one of the best werewolf movies ever made. It had a low budget and was so financially successful, two follow-ups were given the greenlight. Sabrina Carpenter's "Taste" music video is filled with iconic movie references to films like Psycho and Ginger Snaps. The video pays homage to cult classics like Death Becomes Her and Jennifer's Body, recreating memorable scenes in a darkly humorous way. Featuring actors like Rohan Campbell and Jenna Ortega, "Taste" weaves together a dark story with Easter eggs from Sabrina Carpenter's past music videos.
Although it's short and sweet, Sabrina Carpenter's "Taste" music video is packed with iconic movie references. This summer, the former Disney Channel actor and Girl Meets World star became a household name thanks to her chart-topping "Espresso" an undeniable and immensely catchy song of the summer. The whimsical earworm is now certified platinum and, despite being released just a few months ago, Carpenter's signature tune. While "Espresso" was accompanied by its own music video, there's no denying that the visuals for "Taste" take things to the next level,...

The 2000 film Ginger Snaps (watch it Here) is my all-time favorite werewolf movie. That was followed by a sequel – Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed – and a very unexpected prequel – Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning – and while I’m not as enamored with them as I am with the original movie, I do get some enjoyment out of watching them. The oddball prequel especially. If you’re a fan of Ginger Snaps trilogy as well and happen to have a Region B (or region free) Blu-ray player, you’ll be glad to hear that Second Sight Films is packaging all three movies together in a limited edition UK box set that’s going to be released on October 30th. Just in time for Halloween, which happens to be the setting of the first movie.

Finally, the time has come for the audience to see the much anticipated Luca Guadagnino film Bones and All starring Taylor Russell and Timothée Chalamet. This coming-of-age cannibalistic story received a warm welcome at the Venice Film Festival and praise from critics.
The genre of cannibal film has been around for over 50 years and still holds a reputation for creating a lot of controversy because of its horrifying nature and explicit graphics. In recent years films like Raw (2016), Fresh (2022), and now Bones and All (2022) gave the genre a new life and gained more acceptance among the audience. A lot of films of these films combine themes of coming-of-age, love, acceptance, and passion and top it off with some gory images and disturbing primeval human behavior.

With the previous episode of our Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video series, I wrote about a werewolf movie that I feel is underrated, the 1985 Stephen King adaptation Silver Bullet. With the episode that was just released this morning, I had the chance to write about my personal favorite werewolf movie, Ginger Snaps (watch it Here) from 2000. To find out all about Ginger Snaps, check out the video embedded above!
Directed by John Fawcett from a screenplay by Karen Walton, Ginger Snaps has the following synopsis:
Ginger and Brigitte, two sisters trapped in suburbia, are obsessed with mayhem, torture and death until they get a taste of the real thing. Bitten by a wild animal, Ginger begins to mutate into a sexy, uncontrolled woman, with some nasty canine tendencies. Is it a virus? Is it a curse? Or the first step towards becoming a vicious werewolf?

In 2000 Mission: Impossible 2 topped the box office, Gladiator triumphed at the Oscars, and the first X-Men movie ushered in a new era of superhero movies. Meanwhile in Canada, while no one was watching, a new hero was emerging. Her name was Ginger, she was a 16-year-old girl, and ok, she might have turned into a monster and killed a few people but, wow, was she a ferocious figurehead for females everywhere.
“That’s what she’s about. She’s about fuck you, fuck the patriarchy, fuck the standard, fuck society, fuck the norm. And to me, that’s a hero,” says Katharine Isabelle, speaking with Den of Geek via Zoom from her home in Vancouver, 20 years after the film’s debut. Isabelle was just 17 when she stepped into Ginger’s very cool boots and she had no idea it would become a massive cult hit.

Director John Fawcett and screenwriter Karen Walton prove you can teach an old werewolf new tricks in this inventive B thriller satirizing the miseries of high school life. Brigitte and Ginger Fitzgerald are two rebellious siblings who really take this goth business seriously, particularly Ginger, whose growing pains include turning into a werewolf. Emily Perkins and Katharine Isabelle are terrific as the supernatural sister act and Mimi Rogers is the supportive but ultimately ineffectual mom.

The werewolf film is a strange thing. You’d think, being such a well-known movie monster, that there would be millions of examples of the type. However, there is not. I’m not even saying that there aren’t a ton of examples of great werewolf films, I’m saying there are barely any werewolf films at all. A long time ago, we did an article on this site to coincide with the theatrical release of one of the Twilight sequels. It was a list of 30 films, 15 of which were werewolf films, and 15 of them were vampire films, to watch instead of seeing the new Twilight. The hardest part about finding 15 worthy vampire films, was narrowing it down to 15. The hardest part of putting together a list of 15 sold werewolf films was a different beast entirely. It was hard to put together even a list of 15 mediocre werewolf films. Sure,...

Orny Adams on Dylan O’Brien’s endowment, Jim Parsons is an alien, could Qatar lose the World Cup to the United States?
It’s Friday the 13th, good luck out there!
Lea Michele’s new boyfriend Matthew Paetz says he wasn’t really a gigolo and only dated clients for research, so that he could coach real gigolos through the process. He worked for Cowboys4Angels, which provides companionship for women and was featured on Showtime’s Gigolos.
According to Jorge Ramos of Espn (in a deleted tweet), FIFA officials have told the United States to be ready if investigations into corruption with the award of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar turn up irregularities that would void the bid. FIFA may be looking to move the games from Qatar to avoid the bad press of the nation’s human rights record, and the need to play games in the winter due to the heat.

Orphan Black, Season 2, Episode 8, “Variable and Full of Perturbation”
Written by Karen Walton
Directed by John Fawcett
Airs Saturdays at 9pm Est on Bbca
The worsening condition of Cosima has been a source of constant concern over the course of Orphan Black’s second season, made worse by the possibility that Kira’s stem cells might be the only possible cure. The dilemma this put Cosima and Sarah in was alleviated somewhat with the discovery of Ethan Duncan, the scientist who originally worked on the project, and who might be able to provide an alternative. With Leekie now out of the picture, Rachel brings Ethan into the Dyad fold this week as Art and Felix discover a new member of the clone family, in a gripping episode that continues to add new variables to the ongoing conflict.
Rachel’s development has been a fascinating aspect of this season.

The anthology horror film is back in the wake of the success of chapter-style horror films like The Theatre Bizarre (2011) and its announced follow-up, V/H/S (2012), the soon-to-be-released sequel V/H/S 2 (2013) and The ABC’s of Death (2012).
While this movement generates a good deal of conversation about the fondly remembered Amicus productions of the 1960’s and 1970’s like Dr. Terror’s House Of Horrors (Freddie Francis, 1965), Torture Garden (Freddie Francis, 1967), The House That Dripped Blood (Peter Duffell, 1971) and Asylum (Roy Ward Baker, 1972) among others, the comparison is not exactly accurate across the board.
While the segments of V/H/S are unified by shared visual style and a wraparound story, The Theatre Bizarre and The ABC’s of Death come off as collections of essentially unrelated horror short films loosely bound by a flimsy wraparound segment in the case of The Theatre Bizarre or a basic concept as...

Hey everyone! Jeff here with a very special post… This one isn’t a movie review (at least not in the classic sense), nor is it in any way related to a podcast or a film festival… Nope, this post is my contribution to the Liberal Dead Staff’s “Movies To Watch Around Halloween” series.
If you can’t tell, October is my favorite month of the year; not just because it is when the Toronto After Dark Film Festival takes place, but because it’s home to my favorite holiday – Halloween – and it’s the one month out of the year where “normal” society seems to be okay with all things horror-related. But, then again, I’m sure you all understand that sentiment, so I’m likely preaching to the choir here… As such, I won’t waste any time explaining my reason for jumping in on the fun of list-making.

A Priest, A Rabbi and Your Mom Walk Into a Movie Theatre…
You might think that your Mom disapproves of all horror films on principle. At least that’s the stereotype: the wagging finger; the warning that horror films cause nightmares. But the truth is that this is merely a bit of parental judo, reverse psychology designed to push us to watching horror films, because nothing warns us and upholds the moral order like a horror film.
What are the elements of a horror film after all? There is a monster; there is a sense of danger (as critic Joe Bob Briggs puts it “Anyone can die at any time”); the deaths are usually gruesome; and there is usually a moral. If you think about it, fairy tales and horror films are not that far apart – they are even closer to one another in the fairy tales original Grimm-er forms,...
