“Freakier Friday” is chalk full of Easter eggs for devoted fans — it’s actually, essentially, a Russian nesting doll of winks and nudges, particularly when it comes to cameo returns from some of Hollywood’s favorite character actors. Stephen Tobolowsky is back manning detention. Both Rosalind Chao and Lucille Soong appear, too, reprising their roles from “Freaky Friday” as Chinese restaurant owners. There’s a pair of “SNL” favorites, Vanessa Bayer and Chloe Fineman, in supporting parts. The hilarious Sherry Cola is an announcer at the pickleball game.
But the real cameo highlight is undoubtedly Elaine Hendrix as Blake Kale. In the movie, she’s an editor at Rolling Stone. Fans, however, know that she’s also Meredith Blake, the supposed antagonist (there’s some debate) in 1998’s “The Parent Trap,” starring — ding, ding, ding — Lindsay Lohan as identical twins Annie and Hallie in her film debut.

William Stanford Davis wants his Abbott Elementary character Mr. Johnson to feel familiar.
Maybe not all of us had a conspiracy-prone school custodian who may offer some surprisingly sage advice in one breath and try to scam you out of $20 in the next. But, we do all know a person who doesn’t quite fit any of the molds society has created for us. That eccentric person who seems to have lived a thousand lives before they came into ours. That, Davis says, is who he hopes Mr. Johnson evokes in between his hilarious one-liners.
“I try to make him an honest, 100% human being. He just has a few quirky ways,” the actor told Deadline during a sit-down conversation at San Diego Comic-Con.
Davis was joined at the convention by much of his fellow Abbott Elementary cast and crew, including creator and star Quinta Brunson as well as Tyler James Williams,...

The premise of Freaky Friday has now been entertaining fans for generations. The story originated with the 1976 Disney picture starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris as the body-swapped mother-daughter duo. The movie was then remade several times, the most famous of which came out in 2003.
This was the Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan version of Freaky Friday, which became a modern classic and serves as the jumping off point for this year's legacy sequel film Freakier Friday. The new movie chronicles the characters' lives two decades later, upping the body swap stakes when Lohan's daughter and stepdaughter-to-be are also involved.
While Lohan has made a comeback in recent years, her Freaky Friday era was the most important time of her career. The remakecame out shortly before Mean Girls, a movie that would also define Lohan's filmography. However, in advance of this week's release of Freakier Friday, another early Lohan...

Lindsay Lohan is returning to the big screen after a long break with the upcoming Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday. But before fans catch up with Anna and Tess 22 years later, Lohan had already mastered the art of swapping lives in several iconic movies, including Freaky Friday, The Parent Trap, and Just My Luck.
In The Parent Trap (1998), she pulled double duty as Annie and Hallie, twin sisters who switch places to reunite their divorced parents. In Freaky Friday (2003), she portrayed Anna, a rebellious teen who wakes up in her mother’s body. And in Just My Luck (2006), she starred as Ashley. Her perfect life unravels after she unknowingly swaps good fortune with a total stranger.
All three movies showcased Lohan’s knack for playing dual identities. She is bringing back the traits in the 2003 Disney classic sequel, along with Jamie Lee Curtis. Freakier Friday movie is ready to hit...

If there’s one thing that’s true about “Abbott Elementary,” it’s that the hit ABC comedy wears its Philly colors loud and proud, particularly in terms of featuring the city’s local sports teams.
So far, “Abbott” has featured cameos from Eagles stars Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce and Brandon Graham in the Season 3 premiere (plus the NFL team later brought the Super Bowl trophy to set), as well as a funny Season 2 storyline with the Philadelphia Flyers’ mascot Gritty. And, at San Diego Comic-Con, series creator and star Quinta Brunson teased that there are more surprises to come.
“You can expect us to be filming at a live event,” Brunson told the crowd, somewhat cryptically. “You can do with that information what you will, because I can’t give you more information. But I do think that Philly sports fans will be very happy.”

It’s been 22 years since Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan first swapped bodies in “Freaky Friday,” but they’re ready to do it again with a new generation in Disney’s “Freakier Friday,” out in theaters next month.
At Tuesday night’s world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, the Oscar-winning actress explained why audiences need feel-good movies like this highly anticipated sequel to the 2003 family classic now more than ever.
“There’s math involved. You couldn’t make this movie if Lindsay didn’t have a teenage daughter, so she had to be old enough,” Curtis told TheWrap. “And there’s a nostalgia about the movie. In a time of turmoil, you cling to something nostalgic and familiar, so it’s like comfort food.”
“I think ‘Freaky Friday’ is sort of cinema comfort food: it’s satisfying, makes you feel good, makes you laugh, makes you cry.

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are back together, 22 years after starring in beloved comedy Freaky Friday.
Freakier Friday reunites the duo as mother and daughter Tess and Anna Coleman, who swapped bodies in the original film and, in the sequel, discover that lightning may indeed strike twice.
At Freakier Friday‘s L.A. premiere on Tuesday, Lohan told The Hollywood Reporter that the follow-up movie is “bigger, we have more stories to tell. It’s a four-way swap and there’s more music and there’s a lot more physical comedy than the first one, which I love. Any moment that I can pull a Lucile Ball, I’m down for it.”

The Lord of the Rings actor Sean Astin is seeking to replace SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher in the upcoming union election.
Astin has submitted a bid to lead the 160,000-member organization, Deadline confirmed Friday. Also on his ticket are Michelle Hurd for secretary-treasurer, Joely Fisher for president of the Los Angeles Local Board, Lisa Ann Walter for first vice president of the Local Board, and David Jolliffe to return for second vice president.
If elected, Astin would follow in the footsteps of his mother Patty Duke, the Valley of the Dolls and The Miracle Worker actress who became the second woman to ever run the then-Screen Actors Guild in 1985. She held the position for three years.
Astin has previously served on five separate SAG-AFTRA negotiating committees, including the most recent contract won after a historically long, 118-day strike in 2023. He is also a member of SAG-AFTRA National and LA local boards,...

Sean Astin to Run for SAG-AFTRA President, Fran Drescher a Question Mark for Another Bid (Exclusive)
In 1985, Valley of the Dolls and The Miracle Worker actress Patty Duke became the second-ever woman to lead the Screen Actors Guild as president, a position she filled for three years.
Now, decades later, her son Sean Astin is seeking to follow in her footsteps. The actor, perhaps best known for his role as the loyal hobbit hero Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings, is running for president of the current iteration of the film and TV actors’ union, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
In an interview, Astin pointed to his years on national and L.A. Local boards and on five separate negotiating committees as key preparatory steps for the top job at SAG-AFTRA. “It feels like this moment is a culmination of all of that work,” he said. “The time feels like it’s absolutely right and I’m excited to do it.”

Dennis Quaid may be somewhat against the possibility of this memorable classic getting a reboot, but another star is definitely down to bring the rom-com back to life. Directed by Nancy Meyers in her feature directorial debut, The Parent Trap, starring Quaid, was released in July 1998 as a remake and a legacy sequel to the 1961 film of the same name. The iconic actor was joined by a brilliant ensemble, including Lisa Ann Walter, who was most recently seen in the award-winning Abbott Elementary and has now voiced her interest in a Parent Trap reboot – but under one condition.

Series creator and star Quinta Brunson indicated that “Abbott Elementary” may soon come to a close, just days ahead of the cast’s highly anticipated appearance on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” (airing July 9). “Abbott Elementary” is set to begin its fifth season in the fall, and its first four outings have not only been a ratings hit for ABC but raked in scores of award nominations, a rarity for any network series in 2025.

Abbott Elementary has been one of the most successful network sitcoms of recent years. The show's creator and star, however, is already looking forward to graduation. In a recent interview with Bustle, Quinta Brunson talked about the show's inevitable conclusion and her interest in moving on to new projects. It won't happen any time soon, though: Abbott Elementary has been renewed for a fifth season, which will premiere in the fall.

“Abbott Elementary” star, showrunner and creator Quinta Brunson is looking forward to her next big project.
During a recent interview with Bustle, the Emmy-winner explained that she is “looking forward to moving away” from her role as elementary school teacher Janine Teagues. She added that she knows several cast members who would also “love” to expand to other roles.
“We are so fortunate and blessed to be on a network TV show for five seasons, and for people to still be fans,” Brunson explained. “That being said, I have cast members who would love to pursue other projects, and our show is very time-consuming. We shoot about seven months out of the year. That can stop people from being able to do a lot of other things.”

With Abbott Elementary going back to school for a fifth season, creator, showrunner and star Quinta Brunson has graduation on her mind.
The Golden Globe winner recently admitted she’s “looking forward to moving away” from roles like that of second-grade teacher Janine Teagues as she also considers how “very time-consuming” the series is for her cast to continue committing.

Even great things have to end at some point. Such is the circle of life, and fans of Abbott Elementarymight feel that sting soon. The sitcom returns for Season 5 this fall, and series creator and star, Quinta Brunson, is already mauling over when the show could come to a close. The show premiered in 2021 and follows a group of the titular Philadelphia public school teachers as they engage with their students, trying to help them succeed. Season 4 saw Willard R. Abbott Elementary School bid farewell to some of its favorite students, which suggests the upcoming season will be coming with a freshness to it. So, when might we say goodbye to knowledge acquisition?
Abbott Elementary has been incredibly successful throughout its run so far, winning four Emmys along the way. Central to the series' theme is Brunson's character, Janine Teagues, who seeks to make an impact on the lives of her students.

Chris Perfetti from Abbott Elementary is opening up about the show's most surprising friendship, the one between his character, Jacob Hill, and Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Ann Walter). When the show began, no one would have ever thought that Jacob and Melissa would have the friendship they do now. Melissa has been a teacher at Abbott Elementary for many years, unlike Jacob, and has a more realistic view of what it means to be a teacher and what comes with it, compared to Jacob. Despite these differences, Melissa and Jacob became roommates in season 3 following his breakup with Zach.
During an interview with ScreenRant, Perfetti discussed Jacob and Melissa's unlikely friendship and whether their relationship had changed at all since they became roommates. Jacob and Melissa’s friendship has remained mostly the same since season 1 and is the perfect example of how opposites attract. Despite their very different personalities, they’ve...

The fourth season of Abbott Elementaryended on an explosive yet upbeat note. Toward Season 4's end, Principal Ava Coleman (Janelle James) was let go from her job. At the same time, the teachers and staff of Willard R. Abbott Elementary School had to say goodbye to some students whom they'd grown fond of. This means that Season 5 of the ABC sitcom will begin on somewhat of a clean slate as we delve into new characters and new stories for familiar faces. Looking ahead to the new season, series star Chris Perfetti, who plays Jacob Hill, offered an exciting production update.
Abbott Elementary was created by Quinta Brunson, who also stars in the series as Janine. Abbott Elementary season 5 gets an exciting update from star Chris Perfetti. After a truly game-changing twist near the end of Abbott Elementary season 4, in which Principal Ava Coleman (Janelle James) was let go from her job, the hit ABC sitcom concluded its fourth installment on a much more upbeat note. Although the teachers and staff of Willard R. Abbott Elementary School had to say goodbye to some students whom they've grown especially fond of, there was also excitement in seeing those students move on to the next chapter in their lives.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Rachel Foertsch, Perfetti was asked about when Abbott Elementary season 5 might start production. There was something incredibly wholesome about Abbott Elementary’s side of their crossover with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. No, it wasn’t Kaitlin Olson’s Sweet Dee trying to seduce Gregory (Tyler James Williams) away from Janine (Quinta Brunson) or Frank’s (Danny DeVito) suggestion of using pelts soaked in urine as a way to deter raccoons from digging up the community garden. While the other members of Sunny’s infamous gang were causing chaos, Charlie Day’s character, Charlie, was learning a new skill thanks to educators Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph) and Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter).
Fans of the raucous FX comedy will know that Charlie’s illiteracy has long been a running gag, but that simply wouldn’t stand for the two teachers. And, according to Ralph, who spoke with Collider’s Aidan Kelley on the red carpet for the Newport Beach TV Fest over the weekend,...

Who doesn’t love a good crossover? Some of audiences very favorite episodes are the ones where characters from an entirely different show pop up, like when two “ER” doctors showed up on “Friends,” when Sam and Dean got sucked into an episode of “Scooby-Doo,” or, most recently, when “9-1-1” LAPD sergeant Athena Grant took an unplanned cruise aboard the Odyssey.
Most of the time, these special episodes happen because they are on the same network, or are from the same producer, but sometimes they just happen because they are entertaining as hell … or the show’s creators are big fans of each other, as was the case with Quinta Brunson of “Abbott Elementary” and Rob McElhenney of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
Here are some of our favorite TV crossovers:

Earlier this year, worlds collided when the degenerates of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia invaded the more wholesome environs of Abbott Elementary. This summer, the tables will be turned, as Abbott's faculty heads to Paddy's Pub. But who will stay above the fray, and who will take advantage of Always Sunny's more R-rated milieu? Janelle James, who plays Abbott principal and queen bee Ava Coleman, says viewers might be surprised. She made the comments on a recent episode of Entertainment Weekly's The Awardist podcast.
Although one might expect the extroverted Ava to be a key participant in the kind of depravity the Always Sunny crew usually gets up to, James reveals that she takes more on a supervisory role: "Ava is kind of the ringmaster in that episode, so I'm more of a narrator for all the hijinks in that episode. The first half took place at the ABC home of Abbott, meaning the Paddy's Pub gang had their usual R-rated antics toned down. However, with the second half taking place on FX's Always Sunny, get ready to see a whole new side of Abbott's teachers. Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson discussed the other side of the crossover in a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
After a conversation with host Jimmy Kimmel that ranged from Brunson's encounter with Jill Biden at the Super Bowl and her experience at Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary special, conversation turned to the crossover. Brunson described the Always Sunny half of the crossover as "way more raunchy than ours." She added, "It was fun! It was fun seeing what Janine,...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains major spoilers from the Season 4 finale of “Abbott Elementary,” which aired Wednesday on ABC and streams Thursday on Hulu.
While “Abbott Elementary’s” Janine (show creator and star Quinta Brunson) and Gregory (Tyler James Williams) are going strong in their relationship, that doesn’t mean that impersonating each other in one humorous sequence during the Season 4 finale came easily for the actors who play them.
The episode, titled “Please Touch Museum,” follows Abbott’s teachers and students on a field trip to the hands-on Philadelphia museum, which is “for babies,” according to the school’s sullen eighth graders. To cheer the preteens up, the museum guide suggests they write a play about their time at “Abbott” — one that roasts their teachers. To make matters funnier, the students cast their teachers to play one another.
“I found it difficult, actually, to do Janine because there’s...
