A 53-Year-Old Must-Watch Burt Lancaster Western Hits Prime Video in December

A fan-favorite Western film starring the iconic Burt Lancaster will arrive on Prime Video soon. 1971's Lawman will hit the streaming platform on December 1.

Directed by Michael Winner, Lawman follows Lancaster's Jared Maddox, a marshal from Bannock trailing five cowhands from Sabbath, who shoot up his town, leading to the death of an elderly citizen. Maddox demands Sabbath's Sheriff hand them over, threatening to murder them in cold blood if they fail to surrender to him in twenty-four hours. However, the culprits work for one of the town's wealthiest men, Victor Bronson, who attempts to pay off Maddox. The Bannock marshal cannot be bought, inevitably leading to an epic showdown only the best Westerns can deliver.

The Film That Blew the Lid on Small Town Hate, With Brand-New Restoration and Never-Before-Seen Special Features

Cinedigm announced today that The Film Detective, the classic film restoration and streaming company, in partnership with Something Weird Video, will release the exploitation classic Girl on a Chain Gang (1966) on special-edition Blu-ray and DVD, April 19.

From famed shlock distributor-producer-director Jerry Gross, whomade his directorial debut with Girl on a Chain Gang, a stirring feature about small-town hate. William Watson, Julie Ange and Ron Charles star in this shocker about three young people who are framed, arrested and tossed into jail by corrupt Southern police.

Gross—who produced everything from Blaxploitation films to features about teen pregnancy—exercised his social conscience in this drama about racist Southern cops. Made the year after three civil rights workers were murdered in Mississippi, Girl on a Chain Gang addresses a subject Gross must have believed worth exploiting into drive-in theater fare.

Oliver Reed, Candice Bergen and Gene Hackman are on opposing sides of “The Hunting Party,”a 1971 Western released on Blu-ray by Kino Lorber. Reed is Frank Calder who kidnaps school teacher Melissa Ruger (Bergen). The plan is to hold her for a ransom, but Frank also wants Melissa to teach him to read. Frank and his gang are pursued by Melissa’s sadistic husband Brandt Ruger (Hackman), a wealthy and powerful rancher. The film opens with Frank and his gang killing and butchering a cow from a heard of cattle and cutting out chunks of meat which they eat raw. The scene is disconcerting and is juxtaposed with a scene of Brandt forcing himself on Melissa, who is not enjoying his actions which border on rape and clearly involve the infliction of pain.

Film Constellation Strikes ‘Savage’ Early Sales on Kiwi Gang Film (Exclusive)
Kiwi gang picture “Savage” has been sold to The Jokers for France and Falcon Films in the Middle East. The deals are the first for the film, which follows one man’s journey through New Zealand’s street gangs over several decades. Film Constellation is expecting further sales at the Efm in Berlin.

Inspired by true stories of New Zealand’s street gangs, the film stars Jake Ryan as Danny, who is pushed and pulled between his family and the gang. John Tui and Chelsie Preston Crayford also star.

Sam Kelly wrote and directed “Savage,” his first feature. It was shot on location in New Zealand late last year and is currently in post-production. Film Constellation came on board the project at script stage and is handling worldwide sales. Madman will be distributing in New Zealand and Australia.
