Pink Floyd Co-Founder Roger Waters Faces Possible Prosecution In U.K. For Supporting Palestinian Group
Image
Former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters faces possible prosecution for a video he shared voicing his support for the now-banned group Palestine Action.

Palestine Action was banned by the U.K. Parliament on July 5. The following day, 29 people were arrested in central London for holding signs in support of Palestine.

Last year, Waters was fired by his label, BMG, for his comments about Israel.

In his video posted to social media, Waters declared, “Parliament has been corrupted by a genocidal foreign power. Stand up and be counted – it’s now.”

He further proclaimed that the Government decree to recognize the organization Palestine Action as a “terrorist organization” is a complete abandonment and betrayal of basic democracy and justice.

Waters preached, “This is Independence Day, July 5th, 2025. I declare my independence from the government of the U.K., which has just designated Palestine Action a terrorist, proscribed terrorist organization.

“They’re a nonviolent...

Lucius Normalize Being Moms in Music: ‘It Shouldn’t Be Radical’
Image
“Here, hold him,” says Lucius’ Jess Wolfe, plopping her 6-month-old son Leo in my lap. I have never held a child during an interview before, but it feels appropriate: There are babies everywhere at the East Nashville home where the band is stationed for the day, also including Mia, the young daughter of Wolfe’s bandmate Holly Laessig. Mia is sleeping downstairs, and Leo is munching on the cuff of my sweater. When my son calls twice during our chat, Wolfe and Laessig encourage me to pick up, and I do.

Miley Cyrus Aims High With Her Latest Artistic Swerve
Image
Miley Cyrus has spent her whole career mutating and evolving, making drastic musical left turns. She went from Hannah Montana to the indie-sleaze neon orgy that was Bangerz, the ultimate “Disney kid breaks free” statement. But that turned out to be just one of the many Mileys we’d get to know — over the next decade, she moved on to the stoner prog-rock of her Flaming Lips project Dead Petz, to the rootsy country of Younger Now, to the Eighties electro power-glitz of Plastic Hearts. Some thought Endless Summer Vacation...

Thom Yorke Releases Statement Clarifying Stance on Israel and Palestine
Image
Thom Yorke has posted an extensive statement addressing recent criticism from some fans regarding his response—or apparent lack thereof—to Israel’s ongoing war in Palestine. Radiohead has played concerts in Israel several times over the course of their career, including in 2017 when they ignored a request by Roger Waters to cancel a gig in Tel Aviv in support of the Bds movement. Yorke was also notably heckled by a pro-Palestine audience member during a solo concert in Melbourne, Australia in October 2024, prompting him to briefly walk off stage. There has also been much criticism directed at Yorke’s Radiohead and The Smile bandmate, Jonny Greenwood, who recently played a concert in Tel Aviv with Israeli musician Dudu Tassa. Greenwood’s family also recently lost a nephew serving in the Israel Defense Forces.

In his statement, Yorke said he chose not to engage with the heckler in Melbourne because...

Kneecap Concerts Canceled in Germany Following Pro-Palestine Messaging at Coachella
Image
Northern Irish rap trio Kneecap continue to face backlash for their pro-Palestine, anti-Israel statements made at Coachella 2025, resulting in a total of five concerts in Germany being canceled as of April 30th. At the same time, they’ve garnered support from several UK acts, including Massive Attack and artists signed to Kneecap’s label, Heavenly Recordings.

Last week, the group’s June appearances at Hurricane Festival and Southside Festival were pulled, reportedly without explanation. While Kneecap initially directed fans to scheduled headlining shows in Hamburg, Berlin, and Cologne after confirming the festival cancellations, those concerts have now also been canceled.

Get Kneecap Tickets Here

The cancellations may be linked to Germany’s strict hate speech laws. As The Hollywood Reporter points out, the pro-Palestinian slogan “From the river to the sea” has been interpreted by some German courts as anti-Israel hate speech and thus deemed a criminal offense in some states,...

Roger Waters Defamed Filmmaker With Antisemitic Remarks, Court Finds
Image
A London high court has found that statements from Pink Floyd cofounder Roger Waters accusing a documentary filmmaker of “cheerleading the genocide of Palestinians” and acting as a “Zionist mouthpiece” during an Al Jazeera interview are defamatory.

Justice Jennifer Eady on Tuesday concluded that Waters was making a statement of fact, blocking him from arguing that the assertions were intended to be opinions. The ruling deciding preliminary issues in the case advances the lawsuit toward trial. “The statements are defamatory of the claimant at common law,” she wrote.

Waters was sued last year by John Ware, who produced the documentary The Dark Side of Roger Waters, over comments he made on Al Jazeera’s The Stream. The documentary explored allegations of antisemitism surrounding Waters. It features interviews from figures across his career, including Norbert Stachel, Waters’ former saxophone player, and Bob Ezrin, the producer of Pink Floyd’s The Wall.

Marianne Faithfull, English Singer, Dead at 78
Image
Legendary English singer Marianne Faithfull has died at the age of 78.

According to a statement from her family, Faithfull “passed away peacefully” on Thursday, January 30th. A cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

A defining voice of the 1960s, Faithfull first rose to fame with the song “As Tears Go By,” which was written for her by The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. She proceeded to release several more hit singles throughout the decade, but her career became largely overshadowed by her tumultuous personal life, which included a high-profile relationship with Jagger and battles with addiction. Several of The Rolling Stones’ songs were apparently inspired by Jagger and Faithfull’s relationship, including “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Wild Horses,” and “Sister Morphine.”

Jagger remembered Faithfull in a statement released shortly after her passing, writing: “She was so much part of my life for so long.

Garth Hudson, The Band’s Last Living Member, Dead at 87
Image
Garth Hudson, the virtuoso multi-instrumentalist and last original member of The Band, has died at the age of 87.

According to The Toronto Star, Hudson passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, January 21st at a nursing home in Woodstock, New York

Hudson was born Eric Hudson in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, on August 2nd, 1937. Like their son, both of his parents were multi-talented musicians, and Hudson began playing piano at a very early age. His first official gigs were providing the organ for local church services and for a funeral parlor owned by his uncle. By 1949, he was playing professionally in dance bands around London, Ontario, eventually earning a spot in a group called Paul London and the Kapers.

It was after a Kapers show in London in 1961 that Hudson was first approached by his future-bandmates Ronnie Hawkins and Levon Helm, who asked if he would be interested in joining Hawkins’ band,...

Joker: Folie à Deux cuts a rug on Max and HBO next weekend
Image
You’re in luck if you’ve been waiting for Joker: Folie à Deux to hit Max to save yourself some dollars before the holidays. The divisive sequel to Todd Phillips’s Joker comes waltzing onto Max on Friday, December 13, with a linear premiere on HBO on December 14, 2024, at 8 Pm Est.

When Todd Phillips announced Joker: Folie à Deux, fans rejoiced at the thought of Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck returning for another anarchy-fanning foray into the mind of a killer and revolutionary. The world was their oyster. Everything was coming up Milhouse, and then Phillips announced the sequel would be a jukebox musical. Confusion swept through the land as fans contemplated Phillips’ plan, still hoping for the best. Sadly, when Joker: Folie à Deux cut a rug in theaters, it was universally panned by audiences, especially diehard fans of the original. Warner Bros. rushed the movie onto digital services to cut their losses,...

David Gilmour Kicks Off New York Run With High Hopes, Higher Guitar Solos

All it takes is one guitar note piercing through a pitch-black arena — one note dramatically reaching heavenward, as if it’s waking up — to recognize the guitarist. As soon as David Gilmour struck the introductory high E of “5 A.M.,” with only a soft red light and some even softer synths accompanying him, the packed audience at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Monday cheered. The lights slowly faded in, Gilmour’s famous slouch came into focus, and all of the weepy notes he could coax from his...

“It’s a punk Marvel movie.” So says director Tony Kaye about his latest film, The Trainer, one of the more intriguing films to world premiere this year at the Rome Film Festival (October 16-27).

Flex is played by Vito Schnabel who also produced and co-wrote the film. An art dealer as well as a filmmaker, Schnabel made a brief appearance...

Just in case there was any doubt whatsoever, David Gilmour has made it clear that he will “absolutely” never perform with former Pink Floyd bandmate Roger Waters again.

In a new interview with The Guardian, Gilmour responded to a question about stepping back on stage with Waters by saying, “Absolutely not.” For his reasoning, Gilmour reiterated his vehement opposition to Waters’ widely stated political beliefs.

“I tend to steer clear of people who actively support genocidal and autocratic dictators like [Vladimir] Putin and [president of Venezuela Nicolás] Maduro,” he explained. “Nothing would make me share a stage with someone who thinks such treatment of women and the LGBT community is Ok.”

Switching gears, Gilmour said he would “love to be back on stage with [deceased Pink Floyd keyboardist] Rick Wright, who was one of the gentlest and most musically gifted people I’ve ever known.”

How Hollywood’s Favorite ’70s Sports Car Inspired the New Ferrari
Image
No 1970s car exudes more Hollywood allure than the Ferrari 365 Gtb/4, known colloquially as the “Daytona.” Not only was it coveted by movie stars and rock gods, but it had several memorable screen appearances itself. One played a significant role in Robert Altman’s Elliott Gould-starring ode to Film Noir, The Long Goodbye. Perhaps most famously, a convertible version starred in 1976’s A Star Is Born, with Kris Kristofferson at the wheel and Barbra Streisand in the passenger seat.

Now, just as that movie inspired an acclaimed remake a few years back, the 365 Gtb/4 is having a revival. Ferrari design head Flavio Manzoni likes to suggest that all cars from the Italian exotic automaker are of-the-moment, reflecting their time. But he has not been shy in discussing the historical inspiration for the brand’s new, $459,000 two-seater, the 12Cilindri. Manzoni has said quite clearly that the front end and overall shape echo the Daytona.

Pink Floyd Sell Catalog to Sony Music for $400 Million
Image
Pink Floyd have sold their catalog to Sony Music for $400 million after several years of band in-fighting and near agreements, the Financial Times reports.

Notably, the deal includes Pink Floyd’s recorded music rights, but not their publishing. However, the band has signed over their name and likeness, giving the label rights to merch and potential movie and TV spinoffs.

It closes just weeks after David Gilmour admitted to Rolling Stone that it would be a “dream” to sell Pink Floyd’s catalog and get out of the “mud bath” — presumably referencing his longtime contentious relationship with former bandmate Roger Waters. Last month, it was reported Pink Floyd was in “advanced talks” with Sony for a $500 million deal.

Pink Floyd first attempted to sell their catalog in 2022, but those discussions were put on hold amidst band in-fighting and Waters’ incendiary comments about Ukraine and Israel.

Pink Floyd in “Advanced Talks” with Sony Music Over Catalog Sale
Image
Pink Floyd are in “advanced talks” with Sony Music to sell their back catalog for about $500 million, the Financial Times reports.

The update comes after David Gilmour recently told Rolling Stone it would be a “dream” to sell Pink Floyd’s catalog and get out of the “mud bath” — likely referencing his contentious relationship with former bandmate Roger Waters. In just one relatively recent example of their decades-long tension, Gilmour described Waters as a “misogynistic, antisemitic, Putin apologist” in 2023.

Pink Floyd began exploring a catalog sale in 2022, but those discussions fell apart due to band in-fighting and Waters’ incendiary comments about Ukraine and Israel.

Pink Floyd legend David Gilmour is actively interested in selling the band’s catalog, but not because of the financial windfall it would surely bring him. Instead, it’s one less headache he’d have to deal with moving forward.

“To be rid of the decision-making and the arguments that are involved with keeping it going is my dream,” he explained in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. “I am not interested in that from a financial standpoint. I’m only interested in it from getting out of the mud bath that it has been for quite a while.”

The “mud bath” Gilmour speaks is likely in reference to his contentious relationship with former Pink Floyd bandmate Roger Waters, whom Gilmour described as a “misogynistic, antisemitic, Putin apologist” in 2023. That marked just one relatively recent incident from decades of tension and conflict between the two.

Nick Cave Questions the Effectiveness of Cultural Boycott on Israel: “Clearly It’s Not Working”
Image
Since the ongoing crisis in the Middle East escalated to a new level last October, many artists have mobilized to use their platforms in a variety of ways, including participating in the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (Bds) movement and cultural boycotts of Israel. Some, though, have doubts about the effectiveness of such moves, like Nick Cave, who has pushed back against calls for such boycotts in a new interview.

Speaking with Nick Gillespie for an episode of The Reason Interview, Cave explained that while he considers himself “no friend of the government of Israel,” he finds it difficult to accept the idea of “using my music to punish ordinary people because of the acts of their government.”

Continuing, he denied taking any shame from boycott-supporting artists like Roger Waters and Brian Eno too personally, but he highlighted Waters — a particularly outspoken...

News of the Oasis reunion has sent shockwaves throughout the music world, especially since Noel Gallagher has spent the past 15 years swearing such a thing would never happen. But should anyone really be all that surprised? Liam and Noel Gallagher may not like each other very much, but they could make somewhere in the ballpark of $300 to $500 million from a reunion tour. That’ll come in very handy for Noel in the aftermath of his costly divorce from wife Sara MacDonald.

They’re also far from the first rock band...

David Gilmour on His New LP ‘Luck and Strange,’ and Plans for Upcoming Tour
Image
In January 2007, a few months after the conclusion of the On an Island tour, David Gilmour and members of his road band, including Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright, convened in a drafty barn on his U.K. property to try out some new song ideas. “I hadn’t thought this all the way through,” Gilmour says. “It was fuckin’ freezing in there. But we spent 15 minutes working on this tiny, little riff I wrote on the guitar. They all joined in one by one.”

The sketch of a song was...

David Gilmour on New Solo Record: “Best Album I’ve Made” Since Dark Side of the Moon
Image
Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has expressed the utmost confidence in his upcoming solo comeback album, Luck and Strange, describing it as his best piece of work since The Dark Side of the Moon came out five decades ago.

“It’s over 50 years now since The Dark Side of the Moon,” Gilmour told Prog magazine in a recent interview (via Guitar World). “My feeling is that this album is the best album I’ve made in all those years since 1973 when The Dark Side of the Moon came out.”

Considering that Pink Floyd went on to release further classics with Animals in 1977 and 1979’s The Wall, that’s no small statement. Perhaps Gilmour’s ongoing tensions with former bandmate Roger Waters have tarnished his memory of the albums.

Gilmour has also put out a string of successful solo albums including On an Island and Rattle That Lock,...

Nick Mason Wants to Use AI to Make New Pink Floyd Music
Image
Nick Mason has a plan for potentially sidestepping the longstanding feud between David Gilmour and Roger Waters to record new Pink Floyd music, and it naturally involves AI.

In a recent interview with The Daily Mirror, the drummer admitted there’s no chance of a reunion between the surviving members of the band, but expressed an interest in using AI for a what-if scenario.

“It would be fascinating to see what AI could do with new music. If you tried to run it as a sort of ‘Where did Pink Floyd go after?'” Mason said. “The thing to do would be to have an AI situation where David and Roger become friends again. We could be like Abba by the time we’ve finished with it.”

There’s at least a small chance Gilmour would be open to such a scenario. Earlier this year,...

Jonny Greenwood Plays Concert in Tel Aviv
Image
Jonny Greenwood recently joined Israeli musician Dudu Tassa for a surprise concert in Tel Avi, a day after he reportedly participated in protests calling for the release of hostages held in Gaza and new elections in Israel.

According to The Jerusalem Post, Greenwood and Tassa took the stage at Barby on Sunday, May 26th, where they performed material from their 2023 collaborative album, Jarak Qaribak.

David Sanborn, Saxophonist for David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Dead at 78
Image
David Sanborn, the multi-genre saxophonist who performed with David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Carly Simon, James Taylor, and many more, has died. He was 78 years old.

Sanborn’s passing was confirmed on Monday via a post on his social media. “It is with sad and heavy hearts that we convey to you the loss of internationally renowned, six-time Grammy Award-winning, saxophonist, David Sanborn,” the post read. “Mr. Sanborn passed Sunday afternoon, May 12th, after an extended battle with prostate cancer with complications.”

Born in 1945, Sanbron was introduced to the saxophone during his childhood as a means of recovering from polio. By the time he was 14, he had the opportunity to perform with blues legends like Albert King and Little Milton, the first of his many, many collaborations.

In 1967, he joined The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, whom he played with at Woodstock two years later. In the early ‘70s, he began performing with more artists,...

David Sanborn Dies: Grammy-Winning Jazz Saxophonist, Film Composer & ‘SNL’ Bandmember Was 78
Image
David Sanborn, the six time Grammy-winning alto saxophonist who played at Woodstock, composed music for the Lethal Weapon movies, played in the SNL and Late Night with David Letterman bands and worked with everyone from Stevie Wonder to David Bowie, died Sunday afternoon, May 12th, after an extended battle with prostate cancer with complications. He Was 78.

Sanborn’s music is often described “smooth jazz,” but he reportedly rejected that characterization, and one can see why. His lively, iconic sax solo on Bowie’s “Young Americans” is anything but. Sanborn preferred the idea that he “put the saxophone back into rock ’n’ roll.”

Indeed, he worked with a virtual who’s who of rock and R&b legends, including James Brown, Eric Clapton, Roger Daltrey, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, Al Jarreau, George Benson, Elton John, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt, Billy Joel, Roger Waters, Steely Dan, the Eagles,...

In October 2024, the former Pink Floyd member will play six shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London. They mark his first confirmed live performances in eight years.

Previewing his upcoming tour dates in an interview with Uncut, Gilmour expressed a desire to avoid playing ’70s-era Pink Floyd material. “[Other decades] might be better represented,” he explained. “I mean, at least one from the Sixties. The one we’ve done in the past is 1967’s ‘Astronomy.’ That’s always entertaining and fun and gets people off to a happy start. There’s songs from [1987’s] A Momentary Lapse of Reason and [1994’s] The Division Bell albums. I mean, I think ‘High Hopes’ is as...

Roger Waters Asks Bono to Stop “Being an Enormous Shit” in Light of His Support of Israel
Image
Insofar as calling out disingenuous-seeming celebrities goes, Bono is pretty low-hanging fruit. But that hasn’t stopped Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters from lashing out at the U2 frontman in a recent interview, calling him an “enormous shit” for his support of Israel during the nation’s ongoing conflict with Hamas and occupation of Palestine.

The comments came in a recent discussion between Waters and Al Jazeera, in which the Pink Floyd songsmith reaffirmed his condemnation of Israel’s policy towards Palestine, and emphasized the importance of speaking out against war-mongering politics. When asked what he would say to artists who’ve remained quiet during this time, Waters turned his ire towards Bono.

“Anybody who knows Bono should go and pick him up by his ankles and shake him until he stops being an enormous shit,” Waters said, referring to a recent U2 performance at the Sphere where Bono expressed...

Roger Waters demands former Pak Pm Imran Khan's release from 'false imprisonment'
Image
Pink Floyd legend Roger Waters, who is known to be vocal about his political opinions, has demanded the release of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan from “false imprisonment”. Roger took to his Instagram and shared a video which consisted of a picture of Imran from the cricket field during his prime, and Pakistani protesters demanding the release of Imran.

Roger used the song ‘Dreadlock Holiday’ by the British rock band 10cc as the Bgm of his Instagram post for Imran.

He wrote in the caption, “A note to the Military Rulers of #Pakistan and their Masters in Washington: My name is Roger Waters. I am an English musician and a passionate supporter of fair play. What you are doing in Pakistan is not Cricket.”

Imran was arrested on May 9, 2023, from inside the High Court in Islamabad by National Accountability Bureau (Nab) on the charges of corruption. His arrest was...

Pink Floyd Co-Founder Roger Waters ‘Fired’ By Label BMG After Remarks On Israel
Image
German record label BMG recently “fired” the Pink Floyd co-founder, Roger Waters, after his latest comments regarding Israel, Ukraine and the United States.

BMG had signed a publishing agreement with hopes to release a re-recorded version of the band’s 1973 album Dark Side of the Moon. However, in response to his comments, the new CEO of the company, Thomas Coesfeld tossed the deal, and the re-recording was released by U.K. label Cooking Vinyl instead.

Waters has used his platforms to convey controversial claims. In a CNN broadcast last year, he spoke on President Joe Biden, claiming he is a “war criminal,” who was “fueling the war in Ukraine.” In speaking with the United Nations Security Council, Waters called Russia’s invasion of Ukraine “illegal,” but he “also condemn[s] the provocateurs in the strongest possible terms.”

He claimed to Rolling Stone that he is on a “kill list that is...
