Hasraf ‘HaZ’ Dulull’s Beyond The Pixels Developing ‘Astro Burn’ Game As TV Series & Readies Season 2 Of YouTube Chat Show
Image
Exclusive: British director Hasraf ‘HaZ’ Dulull is adapting the first game from his new transmedia company into a TV series, and working on a second season of his YouTube chat show.

Dulull, who is also a screenwriter and games developer, told Deadline that he is in talks with partners about an animated TV adaptation of Astro Burn, which was announced earlier this year as the first project from his Beyond the Pixels label.

“From an industry point of view, if you look at the most recent news about Amazon MGM developing a series based on the game Split Fiction, and the amazing work my friends at [Tomb Raider TV series producer] Story Kitchen are doing, transmedia is now part of the IP creation process in film and TV,” he said. “My next project, Astro Burn, is a prime example. While it’s my debut indie game, we’re already developing it in parallel as a...

From Headphones to Hits: 13 Fiction Podcasts That Need to Be Adapted to the Small Screen
Image
It’s no secret that we’re living in the era of streaming saturation and IP gold rushes to the point of fatigue.

Ironically, the most overlooked goldmine television has barely tapped into is what flows directly to our ears: fiction podcasts!

As one of a handful of things that carried me through the pandemic, I can attest to how audio dramas have been quietly and carefully crafting deeply cinematic, emotionally charged, and narratively daring stories for years.

(Colin Bentley/The CW)

Shockingly, only a few have leaped to television. Homecoming, Limetown, and Archive 81 are among the most notable.

But there are so many that still lie in wait for someone to pluck them up, negotiate accordingly, and bring them from our headphones to our small screens.

Who Is Judith's Biological Father On The Walking Dead?
Image
Of all the characters to survive the entirety of "The Walking Dead," Judith Grimes is the most surprising. Conceived sometime in season 1, fetus-Judith's hope of survival throughout season 2 relies entirely on her mother Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) not dying from sheer clumsiness. There are plenty of close calls: at one point pregnant Lori steals a car without telling anyone, forgets to pay attention to the road while driving, and ends up flipping the car over in the middle of the night, with walkers nearby heading towards the noise. Some people just aren't meant to live in such difficult times.

Luckily for Judith, Lori somehow lives long enough to give birth to her amidst a walker ambush at the prison in season 3. Baby Judith is then carried from place to place for the next five seasons by various people, including a child psychopath who nearly suffocates her to death in season...

Does Michael Scofield Die In Prison Break? His Fate Explained
Image
Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) has a special gift. During the five seasons "Prison Break" was on the air, he showed that there wasn't a single penitentiary on the planet he couldn't break in or out of. Granted, he didn't visit every prison in the world, but the show establishes that he knows how to get out of any sticky situation, so why should we believe that there are any cells that could keep him locked up? For viewers, Michael's escapades provided some edge-of-the-seat entertainment, even when the series started getting ridiculous and running out of steam.

Then again, prison wasn't the only problem Michael had to contend with on "Prison Break." At one point, he suffers from a brain tumor that puts his life in danger, requiring him to get an experimental treatment. However, his problems further intensify when he enters into business with some bad people and gets caught up in an explosion.

The Walking Dead Creator Robert Kirkman Regrets Killing Off One Character Too Soon
Image
If you were an actor in the 2010s looking for job security, "The Walking Dead" was not the show for you. The series was famous for killing major characters in a way that makes rewatching the early seasons extra depressing. You'll be enjoying a season 1 scene with Andrea (Laurie Holden), Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn), Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies), and Shane (Jon Bernthal), only to remember that not a single one of them made it past season 3. Some characters did manage to stick around for surprisingly long, like Carol (Melissa McBride) or Daryl (Norman Reedus), but most people on the show only stuck around for two or three seasons tops.

Case in point: Tyreese (Chad Coleman) was introduced midway through season 3 before being killed off halfway through season 5. Admittedly, though, casual fans didn't have much hope for Tyreese in particular, given the early seasons' suspicious tendency of killing off established Black characters...

“Using s*x to secure safety is a valid option”: ‘The Walking Dead’ Fans Need to Admit They Unfairly Hated 1 Character for Years
Image
When it comes to divisive love interests of morally grey protagonists, AMC surely takes the cake with two of its most lucrative IPs, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. Another thing that links them is the unnecessary hate that Skylar and Lori garnered from their respective fanbases. Much like Skylar, a not-so-small portion of the Twd fanbase loathed Lori with a passion.

The Walking Dead | Credit: AMC

In retrospect, similar to Skylar, the hatewagon surrounding Sarah Wayne Callies’s Twd counterpart seems a bit unjust for a variety of reasons.

The hate directed toward Lori was unwarranted The Walking Dead | Credit: AMC

The hate surrounding Lori boils down to her apparent affair with Shane, and some fans even accused the character of being a nagging wife who pitted Rick against Shane, which contributed to the latter’s untimely death in season 2. However, they often tend to ignore the fact that...

Does Sara Tancredi Die On Prison Break?
Image
"Prison Break" was one of the most popular shows of the early 00s, and recently got a second life thanks to streaming. It's a show that — like "24" and "Lost" — helped popularize serialized narratives in network TV. Instead of standalone episodes that made it easy for casual viewers to dip in and out, "Prison Break" told an ongoing story where every episode directly built up to the next one. This forced viewers to keep tuning in every single week expecting actual resolutions to the story.

The show follows two brothers, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) and Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), whose lives are upended after Lincoln is wrongfully accused of murdering the vice president's brother. When Lincoln is quickly sentenced to death and incarcerated in a high security prison, Michael takes it upon himself to commit armed robbery to get sentenced to the same prison as his brother. It's not just because he misses him,...

For five pulse-pounding seasons, the 2005 smash hit crime drama Prison Break kept audiences hooked with its complex characters, thrilling twists-and-turns, and intricate storylines, with the acclaimed series focusing on the newly-incarcerated brothers Lincoln Burrows and Michael Scofield as they set out to devise an elaborate plot to escape the penitentiary after Lincoln is framed for a murder he did not commit and given a death sentence.

Michael gets himself locked up along with his older sibling in order to break him free and clear his name, with the duo meeting a slew of dangerous characters and making loyal allies along the way. 28 Years Later Finally Gets Revenge On The Walking Dead After The Zombie Series Copied 28 Days Later
Image
The Walking Dead and 28 Days Later are two of the biggest zombie franchises out there, but the film series has finally gotten its revenge over a decade after Robert Kirkman's IP mimicked its opening. Although 28 Days Later's creator claims it isn't a zombie movie, the film's Infected has all the classic traits of zombies, making it one of the most influential projects in the subgenre. Its creativity and horror elements helped inspire plenty of other zombie media, including The Walking Dead, as the show's opening episode seems extremely reminiscent of Danny Boyle's cinematic masterpiece.

With the comic series starting in 2003 and the televised adaptation arriving in 2010, The Walking Dead has become one of the most recognizable zombie franchises around and remains relevant today. During its peak, it was one of the biggest shows on TV, and it has since spawned a variety of spinoffs and...

Why Lauren Cohan’s Maggie Left ‘The Walking Dead’
Image
Lauren Cohan skyrocketed to stardom when she joined the juggernaut zombie sensation The Walking Dead in 2011, becoming a fan-favorite with her compelling portrayal of the fierce and resilient Maggie Greene in the groundbreaking original series. The courageous character became a staple in the thrilling show and her relationship with fellow survivor Glenn Rhee captured the hearts of viewers and made them become emotionally invested in their epic battle for survival.

Audiences were left shocked when Cohan announced her departure from the smash hit in 2018, with the actress setting out to star in the action dramedy Whiskey Cavalier after contract negotiations fell through with The Walking Dead producers. She would return to the pop culture phenomenon in time for its 11th and final season, and went on to star opposite Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the spin-off series The Walking Dead: Dead City. Let's explore more about why Cohan left and what became of her character Maggie.

What Happened to Judith Grimes in ‘The Walking Dead’?
Image
Although The Walking Dead's main series ended in November 2022, the zombie franchise fittingly refuses to die. After the main show's conclusion, at least three spin-offs have been released, including Dead City, Daryl Dixon, and The Ones Who Live. A fourth spin-off, More Tales from the Walking Dead Universe, is also being developed by showrunner Scott M. Gimple.

Given all the spin-offs and countless characters who've come and gone in the Twd universe, it's easy to lose track of young Judith Grimes and her ultimate fate. Adding to the confusion, Judith's fate in the comics differs greatly from the TV series. Fortunately, answers are provided in Twd: The Ones Who Live's finale, giving fans crucial information about Judith Grimes' whereabouts and offering closure regarding her future.

10 TV Dramas with only 1 good season
Image
Often considered the most difficult form of storytelling in entertainment, the television landscape has produced some riveting shows that have become mainstays in pop culture and have garnered loyal fans in a variety of genres. However, for as many great series that highlight the best of the medium, specifically TV dramas, multiple shows fail to live up to a higher standard that had been previously established for viewers, where some TV dramas eventually lose direction.

Whether dealing with changes in the plot, mishandled narrative execution or issues outside of the show’s control, several TV dramas have delivered a strong television experience for audiences that emphasized great potential, only to then significantly drop in quality. Moreover, many of these shows’ prolonged tenure drew the ire of dedicated fans who felt disappointed by a lack of cohesion, as well as grew tiresome with the ill-conceived narratives at hand.

Prison Break Reboot From Mayans M.C. Boss Receives Pilot Order at Hulu
Image
Just when we thought the Prison Break franchise was over, it sounds like we’re getting another series.

Deadline reported around this time last year that Hulu had put a “new incarnation” of the hit drama into development. Today, they reported that it has officially received a pilot order.

Prison Break first aired on Fox in 2005 before being canceled in 2009 after four seasons.

(Ed Araquel/Fox)

However, Fox aired a limited series revival in 2017, bringing back the show’s key players, including Wentworth Miller, Sarah Wayne Callies, and Dominic Purcell.

The next chapter will be an entirely new concept but will still take place in the universe of the original series.

(Tommaso Boddi/Afp via Getty Images))

That’s probably an excellent idea, given how Prison Break Season 5 ended.

If you’re a Prison Break fan, you were likely upset by the end of the show’s original run, which...

Mayans M.C. Co-Creator's Prison Break Reboot Gets an Exciting Update
Image
Hulu's preparing to spend some time behind the walls with a planned reboot of the hit series Prison Break. A new take on the show, this one from Elgin James, has just taken a major step forward toward becoming a reality.

Per Deadline, Hulu has officially ordered a pilot for the Prison Break reboot. Should the streamer be satisfied with the pilot, a series order will be next. The project comes from James, known for co-creating FX's Sons of Anarchy spinoff series, Mayans M.C., as well as the BBC/Prime Video series The Outlaws. The potential spinoff with James was first reported to be in early development last year, and finally getting its pilot order follows the original Prison Break recently getting a resurgence in viewership on Netflix after a 2-year hiatus on that platform.

10 TV Character Deaths That Almost Ruined the Show
Image
Television often lives and dies by the strength of its characters. Unlike feature films, long-form storytelling allows viewers to get to know characters for better or for worse. Series such as Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead have gone on so long that it can feel detrimental and heartbreaking when the worst happens.

These shows also tend to dispatch characters without concern. With such a long timeline, writers have to make the world feel real, and for that to happen, there has to be high stakes. This is a well-known fact, but sometimes, shows don't exactly stick the landing. There are many series that, while trying to make the events feel gritty and real, end up alienating the audience. Some television deaths are so controversial that they end up hurting the series in the long run.

Andrea Wouldn't Have Been Such A Hated Twd Character If The Show Stuck To The Comics
Image
Angela was remains of the most hated The Walking Dead characters to appear in the long-running AMC zombie drama - and as a fan of the Robert Kirkman comics it’s based on, I know that she shouldn’t have been. Played by Laurie Holden between seasons 1 and 3 of The Walking Dead (along with some flashback cameos in seasons 10 and 11), Andrea was one of the first survivors Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) encountered in season 1. Initially traveling with her ill-fated sister Amy (Emma Bell), Andrea’s story arc quickly became one of the most tragic in the show’s earlier seasons.

Laurie Holden remained part of The Walking Dead cast until the season 3 finale, when Andrea was killed off. There were many Twd fans who were happy to see her go for a variety of different reasons. However, it didn’t have to be this way. While I am generally a...

Image
Your browser does not support the video tag.

This article discusses sensitive topics such as suicide.

Through its 11-season run, The Walking Dead never shied away from killing off main characters. It started with characters like Shane (Jon Bernthal) and Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) and hit its peak with people like Hershel (Scott Wilson) and Glenn (Steven Yuen). But one death in particular came as a complete shock: that of Ricks (Andrew Lincoln) son, Carl (Chandler Riggs). With an incredible arc through the seasons, developing from a whiny child to a brave and courageous young man, it seemed like there was so much more of Carls story to tell.

However, his life was cut short when Carl perished from a bite on his torso after trying to heroically save others. He had an opportunity to say his goodbyes in one of the most heart-wrenching moments on the show. The situation...

10 Lead Actors Who Quit A TV Show, But Returned For The Series Finale
Image
Among the most fundamental parts of a TV show are the characters in it. For a story to work, its lead actors must successfully embody their roles and conquer the interests and hearts of the audience. However, some TV series go on for years and their leads might not be able to keep up with a show's schedule. Whether for personal or professional motives, when a lead TV actor leaves their role, it is always a painful moment for the fans who, after accompanying them through their journey, have usually grown to love the character.

Their absence creates a void. However, sometimes, the same actors can surprise the audience and honor the character's arc by making one last return for the series finale. These heartfelt moments not only provide the audience with one last opportunity to shed tears (or laugh) with their favorites but also bring a sense of closure...

Image
In The Walking Dead, based on Robert Kirkman’s gripping comic series, Andrew Lincoln takes on the role of the tough and tenacious Rick Grimes. However, with a blend of humor and honesty, the actor, 51, once revealed his playful envy of Jon Bernthal’s character, Shane Walsh. Lincoln joked about Shane’s boldness in “actually sleep[ing] with my wife”, referring to Lori Grimes, played by Sarah Wayne Callies.

For those new to the chaos, Rick is the fearless leader and former sheriff’s deputy, constantly grappling with survival and moral dilemmas in a world overrun by zombies. Frank Darabont Was Happily ‘Dragged’ Out of Retirement to Direct Two ‘Stranger Things’ Final Season Episodes: The Series ‘Has So Much Heart’
Image
Exactly 30 years after “The Shawshank Redemption,” director Frank Darabont is helming his next massive project: Two episodes of blockbuster series “Stranger Things 5.”

Darabont famously stepped away from filmmaking after his short-lived TNT series “Mob City” that aired for one season in 2013. His last film was 2007’s “The Mist,” adapted from a Stephen King novel. Now, “The Green Mile” helmer is explaining why he came out of an 11-year retirement to direct two episodes of the fifth and final season of “Stranger Things.”

“What really dragged me out of retirement was that my wife and I really love this show,” Darabont told The Daily Beast about the viral Netflix sci-fi series. “Our content now is so filled with horrible people doing horrible things for greedy reasons but ‘Stranger Things’ has so much heart. That positivity is something I really responded to.”

Darabont added about whether or not he will return to directing,...

Spoiler Alert: Major spoilers for Prison Break to follow After Prison Break's fourth season concluded with the shocking death of series lead Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), fans never expected the show to return nine years later. When the hit crime drama did return in 2017 for Season 5, fans were left scratching their heads when a much shorter season ignored Michael's death, one of many ridiculously far-fetched stories and subplots that undermined the dramatic impact of the four seasons before it. As such, most agree that Prison Break overstayed its welcome and lasted one season too long.

Worse yet, the terminal illness that supposedly claimed Michael's life was nearly erased in the 2009 spin-off movie Prison Break: The Final Break, with his death given an explanation that completely retconned the four...

10 Predictable TV Show Deaths We All Saw Coming
Image
Warning: This list contains spoilers for many character deaths from popular TV shows.

TV shows have character types inherently at risk of dying, like parents and mentors, to drive plot complications. The challenge for showrunners is to make impactful character deaths, even if the audience can predict them. Some TV shows, like Game of Thrones, face the dilemma of needing to keep key characters alive for long-term arcs.

There are some deaths in TV shows that no one saw coming, and others everyone saw coming from a mile away. Certain TV character types are always in danger of being killed off because of the ways their deaths inherently drive plot complications: parents, mentors, etc. In other cases, the story might set up a character's death or even necessitate one, leading to a process of elimination where the audience determines which character the story doesn't need for future seasons.

This Prison Break Villain Might Be Too Well-Rounded
Image
T-Bag's evolution from ruthless criminal to sympathetic villain blurs moral lines for viewers of Prison Break. Robert Knepper's portrayal adds depth to T-Bag, challenging the perception of him as a one-dimensional antagonist. Despite his heinous crimes, T-Bag's backstory and moments of humanity make him a complex character in the series.

With the fifth and final season of Prison Break recently joining Netflix, a whole new audience has been introduced to Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell (Robert Knepper), the most ruthless member of the Fox River Eight. Although T-Bag has been a mainstay since Season 1, the evolution of the villainous criminal takes an unexpected sympathetic turn. By the series' end, viewers are bound to see T-Bag in a much different and more lenient light, largely due to his charming, sophisticated eloquence and devotion to avenging his wife.

While nothing can excuse the terrible actions that T-Bag gets away with and is imprisoned for,...
