Can you believe that this absolute epochal adventure that practically perfected an otherwise cringey subgenre of horror was once nominated for a Razzie? That is, nevertheless, hardly the defining quirk of the found-footage style atmospheric horror that is chock-full of unnerving audacities.
To say that the magma effervescing beneath its cloak of perpetually ambiguous terror is virtually a horror heritage would, in all honesty, be the only analogy worthy of following The Blair Witch Project. Imagine a world with no myth-busting, all-knowing social media, and the world wide web itself was in its amateurish adolescence.
That is exactly the privilege of circumstance that rendered the bulk of the audience that went into the theatre expecting a boilerplate horror thoroughly mortified. While the credit for it should entirely be bestowed on the groundbreaking minds that came up with the fresh-from-the-oven marketing strategies, the eccentric makers took quite a bit of questionable liberties,...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Miss Scarlet Season 5 finale, “Dangerous Liaisons.”] Miss Scarlet Season 5 was a season of change. The formerly titular Duke, William (Stuart Martin), departed the series after Season 4, and Tom Durant-Pritchard joined the cast as the by-the-book detective Alexander Blake, who wasn’t keen to let private detective Eliza Scarlet (Kate Phillips) work out of Scotland Yards. Eliza pursued her work anyway, putting her in close proximity to Blake throughout the season’s six episodes. They grew on each other as the season progressed, leading to a moment in the finale that wasn’t a long-time coming per se but a major development for Eliza. The February 16 finale featured a dangerous case that saw Oliver Fitzroy (Evan McCabe) attacked. As Blake and his men worked to solve the mystery, Eliza was hired by Oliver’s mother. Marianne Fitzroy (Robin Weaver), to investigate his father, Commissioner Fitzroy (Stephen Boxer), whom she suspected was being unfaithful.

Few films have changed the landscape of horror like The Blair Witch Project. Purporting to be recovered footage from a doomed documentary, the story follows three filmmakers who venture into the Black Hills of Maryland to investigate the legend of the Blair Witch. They never return. This lean and mean film was cobbled together from hours of footage shot by the actors improvising fictionalized versions of themselves. Directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez made the bold choice to never show the titular monster, elevating the film from a creepy tale set in a haunted woods to one of the most terrifying, profitable, and ambitious horror films of all time. Though her face remains in the shadows, the Blair Witch has become a cultural phenomenon with a legacy that reaches far beyond the real life entities who may have inspired her creation.
