There have been several TV series recently centering on the intricacies of sisterhood. From Netflix’s “Sirens” to Peacock’s “Long Bright River,” this particular sibling connection is having a moment. Now, Prime Video’s limited thriller, “The Better Sister,” based on the best-selling novel by Alafair Burke and adapted to television by Olivia Milch and Regina Corrado, is showcasing two very different and estranged sisters, torn apart by lies and forced to come together again after a shocking crime rocks their worlds. Despite its electric premise, which includes murder, secrets, affairs and a high-profile trial, the show is underwhelming.

“The Better Sister” opens at dusk. Chloe Taylor (Jessica Biel), an editor-in-chief at a popular magazine, is seen leaving her mentor Catherine Lancaster’s (Lorraine Toussaint) Hamptons estate. After a short drive to her own home, Chloe enters and fiddles around a bit in the kitchen before stepping into the living room.

Musician-turned-comedian Hagen (writer-director) stars alongside Dylan Baker, Frederick Weller, Eric Bogosian & Emmy Winner Jamie Lee (HBO’s Crashing). Concert violinist and author Ling Ling Huang (Natural Beauty) also stars with newcomer John Kroner and Charlotte Ray Rosenberg. Hagen is known for her late-night appearances on Jimmy Fallon, and as a New Face of Comedy in 2019 for the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal.

Inspired by Hagen’s real-life experiences, the pic follows a recent Juilliard graduate and classical violist (Hagen) who now plays unconventional gigs in New York City that insert her into the personal lives of strangers and entangle her with the married father (Weller) of her violin student.

See You On a Venus is a romantic drama film directed by Joaquín Llamas. Starring Virginia Gardner and Alex Aiono, See You On Venus follows Mia and Kyle, two American teenagers who fall in love while they are traveling through Spain in order to find Mia’s birth mother. One of the best things about film festivals is arguably the pre-festival programming website. They often don't have a lot of details about what you can expect from a certain movie, which can sometimes be used to a film's advantage. A movie's description can be the most thread-bare description possible, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's all it has to offer. What lies beyond those two or three sentences could be something that shouldn't be relegated to tiny theaters and hushed whispers.

When you look at the SXSW Film & TV Festival program, you'll find the description of "Only The Good Survive" only really describes part of the movie. Sure, it does center around a back-and-forth confrontation between a young drifter (Sidney Flanigan) and a lots-of-nonsense sheriff (Frederick Weller). That might not be the most original of ideas, but the way that writer-director Dutch Southern portrays this twisty crime caper certainly is.

Jennifer Lawrence returns to the screen in A24’s “Causeway,” the first-time feature directed by Lila Neugebauer. The actress shares the screen with Brian Tyree Henry to tell the story of a friendship between a veteran and a car repairman.

A new cinematic drinking game has arrived. It’s a doozy, too, when taking a shot every time writer-director Neil Labute uses an intertitle demarking time in Out of the Blue means you’ll probably pass out before Connor’s (Ray Nicholson) inevitable plan to kill Marilyn’s (Diane Kruger) abusive husband is floated, let alone put in motion. Many are arbitrary. Some are exacting. Few have narrative relevance beyond telling us something we already know. I’m thus unsure what the point of using so many is, beyond earning an incredulous laugh—some bookend thirty seconds of footage that provide nothing of consequence anyway. If a character mentions that an event will occur on Tuesday, we don’t need to see “Tuesday” before transitioning to said event. It’s implicit.

Exclusive: Sidney Flanigan (Never Rarely Sometimes Always), Frederick Weller (BlacKkKlansman), D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai (Reservation Doggs) and Will Ropp (The Greatest Beer Run Ever) will topline the indie thriller Only the Good Survive, from writer-director Dutch Southern, which has wrapped production.

The film picks up with Brea Dunlee (Flanigan) following a heist gone wrong resulting in the deaths of three of her friends, as she finds herself in the custody of the small-town sheriff Cole Mack (Weller), who may be hiding just as many secrets as her. The only thing for certain is only one of them will survive. Darius Fraser (The Chair), Lachlan Watson (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Jon Gries (The White Lotus) also star in the film being eyed for a 2023 release.

Thomas Mahoney (Wild Indian) and Justin X. Duprie (Bad Turn Worse) are producing, with Brian Udovich, Renn Vera and Maureen Taylor serving as EPs.

HBO has released a new trailer for Steven Soderbergh's upcoming film Mosaic, which allows its viewers to choose the direction of the story. It's an experimental form of filmmaking it looks like it will be a fun, entertaining, and innovative experience! It's like a live-action "Choose Your Own Adventure" book. I'm sure you all remember those.

The super secretive wait for “Mosaic” is finally over. Steven Soderbergh and HBO’s murder mystery has officially launched as a groundbreaking narrative app that can be downloaded for free on devices that include iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. Soderbergh partnered with the technology company PodOp to create the interactive experience, which is structured as a choose-your-own-adventure murder mystery.

The story centers around the murder of a celebrity named Olivia Lake (Sharon Stone), and the app features different story threads relating to all the different characters that users can select to watch on their own terms. Supporting characters are played by Garrett Hedlund, Frederick Weller, Beau Bridges, Paul Reubens, and more. The narrative does not have a traditional beginning, middle, or end. The app presents a handful of files that the viewer selects to watch.

I love it when writer and director Steven Soderbergh experiments and takes risks with his projects. The guy is an innovator and he's got a new project coming out from HBO that looks and sounds like it could be a ton of fun.

Quietly in the works for the past few years, there has been more rumor than fact when it comes to Steven Soderbergh‘s “Mosaic.” The director has bristled when his technology driven, ground-breaking project has been described as a Choose Your Own Adventure style project, which allows viewers and users of his unique type, to engage with the story. But now, he’s finally revealing what it’s all about.

Starring Sharon Stone, Garrett Hedlund, Frederick Weller, Beau Bridges, Paul Reubens, Jennifer Ferrin, Devin Ratray, Michael Cerveris, James Ransone, Jeremy Bobb and Maya Kazan, “Mosaic” will be both an interactive storytelling experience, available as a free download in November, and a six-part limited series of the same name that will air on HBO in January 2018.

The dark comedy stars Paul Rudd as a depressed guy who becomes a caregiver, and his first job is caring for Trevor, a lonely teen with muscular dystrophy confined to a wheelchair, played by Craig Roberts. The cast includes Selena Gomez, Jennifer Ehle, Megan Ferguson and Frederick Weller. This is a fun film and has some smart comedy, and the performances from Roberts and Rudd are fantastic. It wasn't my favorite out of Sundance, but it's charming and worth watching if you're interested. The film follows Paul Rudd’s attempt to cope with recent loss through a caregiving program. Update, Monday 1:40 p.m.: McC Theatre Co-Artistic Director Bernard Telsey released a statement this afternoon confirming that Elizabeth Reaser (True Detective, The Good Wife) will replace Heather Graham in Neil Labute’s The Money Shot. “We wish her well,” he said of Graham. The show is still scheduled to begin performances September 4 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in Greenwich Village.

Exclusive: I hear that just three days after a press meet-and-greet for Neil Labute’s new play The Money Shot, Heather Graham is parting ways with the company to focus on her film, Half Magic. She’s always a welcome sight, and Heather Graham provided plenty of eye candy at the meet and greet for her new play “The Money Shot” in New York City last night (August 14).

The “Boogie Nights” actress was all smiles outside the McC Theater as she posed with the cast and creative team for the Neil Labute production.

“The Money Shot” will serve as the season opener for the Lucille Lortel Theater in Greenwich Village when previews begin on September 4th.

Officially opening on September 12th, the show will run until October 12th and will also star Gia Crovatin, Callie Thorne and Frederick Weller.

This weekend, the Person Of Interest spoiler panel arrived at the big 2014 Comic-Con event out in San Diego,CA and released this new, very long spoiler clip (below) for their upcoming season 4. In the new clip, a new mystery woman played by Cara Buono, is spotted in action, and she says, "The world has changed. ” Other scenes feature In Plain Sight‘s Fred Weller. In the middle parts of the clip, a few season 3 highlights are shown, along with a lot of new footage, including Sam and Root lying low in a chic department store.
