Tom Welling Gives Fans A Surprising Update On Smallville Sequel
Image
It’s been over a decade since Smallville wrapped its 10-season run, but fans still can’t stop asking: “When is Clark Kent coming back?” And no, not the new guy in James Gunn’s reboot, David Corenswet, but Tom Welling’s flannel-wearing, reluctant farmboy hero who made Kansas cool long before the Arrowverse even knew what leather jackets were. If you’ve been clinging to hope for a Smallville comeback, you’re not alone. Welling and co-star Michael Rosenbaum (aka the best Lex Luthor ever) have been quietly working behind the scenes on an animated sequel series for the last few years. So what’s the holdup? Why haven’t we seen the animated return of Smallville‘s Justice League? Turns out, they haven’t even pitched it to Warner Bros. Discovery yet. Timing is everything, and apparently, the timing has been “off” since… forever. Image Credit: Fortress of...

Tom Welling Drops Major 2025 Update on ‘Smallville’ Sequel as DC TV Reboot Hits Pause
Image
Superman has been a favorite character for decades, appearing in everything from cartoons to movies. One of the most loved versions is the TV show Smallville, which ran for ten seasons from 2002 to 2011. Fans still remember Tom Welling’s portrayal of a young Clark Kent and Michael Rosenbaum’s memorable Lex Luthor.

Even though Smallville ended almost 14 years ago, the story isn’t over yet. Michael Rosenbaum and the original creators have been working on an animated sequel to continue the story. Rosenbaum recently told fans that the project is still alive, with the right team involved, but they are waiting for the right moment to bring it to Warner Bros.

Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum have been pushing for this sequel, hoping to get the original cast to voice their characters. But the project hasn’t been officially reviewed by Warner Bros. Discovery yet. The company is busy focusing...

Tom Welling Shares Big 2025 Update on ‘Smallville’ Sequel Amid DC TV Reboot Delay
Image
It has been more than 14 years since Smallville ended its 10-season run, but the show is still remembered as one of the most beloved Superman stories ever put on television. Starring Tom Welling as Clark Kent and Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor, the series ran from 2002 to 2011 and gave fans a long, detailed look at Superman’s early years.

For a while now, Welling and Rosenbaum have been trying to bring the world of Smallville back. Instead of a live-action return, the plan is for an animated sequel series, picking up right where the original story left off.

Both actors have said they want the original cast to return and voice their characters. They’ve also been working with Smallville’s original creators, Al Gough and Miles Millar, to make sure the new project feels like the show fans remember.

The animated sequel has been in development for a few years,...

Smallville Sequel Gets Major 2025 Update From Tom Welling After DC TV Reboot Delay
Image
The Smallville sequel TV show from Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum gets a new DC update from the former Superman actor. While the Smallville cast finished their run all the way back in 2011 on The CW, the Clark Kent-focused drama has been eying a potential resurrection, as Welling and Rosenbaum have been developing an animated continuation, with the goal to have the original actors voice their respective DC characters.

However, as the Smallville sequel has been in development for a number of years, the project has yet to be looked at by Warner Bros. Discovery, as DC Studios have been putting their focus on getting James Gunn's DC Universe franchise up and running, including the release of 2025's Superman movie. But a new update from Welling may spell trouble for Smallville's possible revival.

Welling was recently on Rosenbaum's podcast, Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, where the Lex Luthor...

''Smallville' Reboot Gets a Devastating Update That Spells Doomsday for Fans
Image
While David Corenswet's Superman may be flying up, up, and away at the box office, fans shouldn't expect the same for another popular Man of Steel. Tom Welling, who portrayed the titular Kryptonian superhero in the iconic CW show Smallville, recently poured cold water on the chances of a reboot for the show, which aired its final season in 2011. So, it seems for now, fans will have to get their fill of Superman from the big screen.

Welling's comments came during an appearance on the podcast Inside of You, which is hosted by his Smallville co-star Michael Rosenbaum, who portrayed Lex Luthor. "I'm smiling and saying it will probably never happen," Welling said when asked if Smallville co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millarwould ever reboot the show. "But I love the idea!"

Rosenbaum seemed to agree with this sentiment, adding, "It just doesn't seem like our show is the...

Dean Cain Is Still Flying High: ‘Lois & Clark’ Heartthrob Tells All on Supporting Trump, Opposing ‘Woke’ Superman and Overcoming Sexual Harassment
Image
Dean Cain is about to pull off a lightning-fast costume change that would impress even Superman. Standing in front of an infinity pool overlooking a golf course and the Las Vegas Strip in the distance, the actor is wearing a faded gray T-shirt, gym shorts and no shoes. A Greek Orthodox cross and a military dog tag hang from a chain around his neck. The man who played the Man of Steel and his alter ego, Clark Kent, on the trailblazing series “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” needs to morph into something camera ready.

“I’m gonna have to go put on a jacket and a shirt and leave my shorts behind,” he says as he pops a tangerine-flavored nicotine lozenge in his mouth and heads upstairs for a Zoom appearance on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” to discuss the latest “Superman,” two days before it unspools in theaters.

12 Superman Easter eggs and references you may have missed
Image
After years of underwhelming releases and an overall lack of cohesion in storytelling, DC bounced back with a bang on July 11 with James Gunn’s reliable, comic book-loving direction.

Superman, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, was loved by fans and critics alike. From incredibly positive early reviews to a $125 million domestic opening weekend, Gunn’s film soared to a summer blockbuster status while delivering a promising revival of the Dcu.

In the movie, Gunn drops us into an existing universe where metahumans are already established. Instead of seeing Kal-El land on Earth in his Kryptonian spaceship, we catch him on just another day in Metropolis—a nod to Gunn’s experience of reading Superman comic books.

However, what the movie does not say out loud in as many words, it makes up for with Easter eggs.

'The Vampire Lestat' Ushers in 'Interview With the Vampire' Season 3 at Sdcc
Image
Interview With the Vampire sank its fangs into San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 26, as stars of the popular horror/romance series, including Sam Reid, Jacob Anderson, and Eric Bogosian, all appeared in Ballroom 20 to help promote Season 3. During the panel for Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe, AMC+ also released an exclusive "Sneak Peek Backstage" video (below) of the upcoming season, in which it was revealed that the show will change its title from Interview With the Vampire to The Vampire Lestat in 2026. Reid’s transformation into Rockstar Lestat is on full display during the must-see footage, and the actor can’t believe he’s actually getting to bring this David Bowie/Jim Morrison-esque iteration of the character from the novels to life on-screen. Reid said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

"It's pretty wild, I've got to say. I can’t really believe we're doing it. Sometimes I’m like,...

The Smallville Character Superman Actor Christopher Reeve Played
Image
Now that James Gunn's charming crowd-pleaser "Superman" has debuted with David Corenswet in the lead role, we've had four big-screen Supermen (not counting the movie serials or 1951's "Superman and the Mole Men"). But while the character's darker DC counterpart, Batman, has flourished in a cinematic environment in which new actors and directors have put their spin on the source material, Superman has had a different experience. That is to say that the films arguably peaked with the very first blockbuster entry: 1978's "Superman: The Movie."

Richard Donner's seminal superhero outing established the blueprint for the modern blockbuster, but every attempt to follow that blueprint has simply existed in the shadow of the original. Donner treated Superman and his history with reverence and respect, crafting a movie that felt grand and spectacular but which also made Clark Kent, his alter-ego, and the people around him feel real. Ultimately,...

Wednesday Creators Say The Series Won't Repeat The Same Mistake They Made With Smallville
Image
Wednesdaycreators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar open up about their Smallville mistakes and how they are hoping to avoid them today.

Speaking toThe Hollywood Reporter, Gough and Millar discussed both the development and future of Wednesday, as well as the lessons they learned leading up to the hit Addams Family-inspired Netflix series. When asked how many seasons Wednesday would ideally run for, Millar responded, "We’ll take as many seasons as Netflix wants to give us because we made a mistake with Smallvilleat one point. We had a five-year plan, and then the show went on for 10 years. So we're not going to get out in front of that."

"But we certainly have a plan for season three and beyond, ways to keep evolving the character and follow her journey into adulthood," Millar continued. "The great thing about Wednesday is she’s got the bandwidth of an Am radio — in season one,...

Superman’s David Corenswet Makes the Boys’ Star Cry 8 Years After That Gem
Image
After the release of James Gunn’s Superman, David Corenswet’s performance is receiving high praise from both fans and critics alike. But perhaps the most heartfelt reaction came from his co-star and The Boys actor, Jack Quaid. The two first appeared together in the TV show The Tap. Now, after 8 years of the show, Quaid is all in praise of Corenswet’s movie, which made him “laugh” and “cry. “Posting on Threads, he praised Corenswet’s portrayal as a version of Superman whose “humanity shines through in every frame.“

The two actors also share a connection to the iconic character as Quaid voiced the Clark Kent in Max’s My Adventures with Superman. In a surprising twist, Quaid also shared in 2024 that he once auditioned for the role himself. But ultimately, Corenswet won the cape.

James Gunn Gives Disappointing Update About One of ‘Superman’s Most Epic Easter Eggs
Image
Easter eggs in big blockbuster franchises are almost expected. When it comes to James Gunn’s Superman, which has officially ushered in his Dcu, it’s clear: things are just getting started. The 83% Certified Fresh film stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel and also features Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, among others. One of the film’s biggest Easter eggs came in the form of a mural in the rotunda of the Hall of Justice. The mural featured the likes of Kent Nelson aka Doctor Fate, Ted Grant aka Wildcat, a Speedster (unclear who), all pointing to characters commonly seen not within the Justice League, but instead the Justice Society of America. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Gunn explained that the mural wasn’t just thrown together and has bigger implications as the Dcu moves forward. “Oh, there was a ton of thought put into it.

James Gunn
Poll: Who is the Best Superman?
James Gunn
James Gunn stepped into some hot water with fans when he chose to recast Superman for his new DC Studios relaunch. While Henry Cavill’s performance as the Man of Steel was widely appreciated—despite the films themselves being divisive—Gunn’s decision to move in a new direction raised eyebrows. That said, his choice of David Corenswet to don the cape has largely paid off. Corenswet has earned praise from both fans and critics, potentially setting the stage for a long run in the new Dcu.

But where does Corenswet rank among the big-screen Supermen? Our own Tyler Nichols placed him as runner-up to the perennial favorite, Christopher Reeve. Now, it’s time to turn the question over to you, the readers.

For the sake of completeness, we’ve included small-screen Superman actors in the poll—though we’ve left out Superboy portrayals like Tom Welling’s, as technically...

Previous Superman Actor Praises David Corenswet’s Performance
Image
Superman is back! Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s 1938 comic book creation has been in the headlines a lot again lately, and not just because James Gunn’s Superman (2025), starring David Corenswet, is dominating the box office worldwide. The hype around the DC superhero’s return has stirred up nostalgia, admiration, and even a little controversy. Corenswet has called Smallville‘s Tom Welling his favorite Superman and also praised Christopher Reeve’s iconic performance in the original films when speaking with his son, Will Reeve (who also appeared in the new film). The actor also revealed he received special letters/notes from Man of Steel‘s Henry Cavill and Superman & Lois‘ Tyler Hoechlin as he stepped into the role. Meanwhile, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman‘s Dean Cain has been making headlines of his own, though mostly for his political takes on the character. Now, another Superman actor has weighed in,...

7 TV Shows to Watch If You Love James Gunn’s ‘Superman’

“Superman” has ignited a yearning for more heroic storytelling – whether it’s from people in capes or just through acts of kindness.

If you’re looking for more stories that capture the vibe of director James Gunn’s “Superman” film, but want it in TV size, there are more than enough options. Multiple renditions of Clark Kent exist on the small screen, and some of them are even pretty good. But there are more options than just other Superman stories.

From diving deeper into the DC universe Gunn is building to finding more shows that embody punk rock kindness, these are the TV shows you should watch after “Superman.”

‘Superman’ Composers on Honoring John Williams’ Original Heroic Theme and Creating Lex Luthor’s Villain Motif
Image
Nicholas Hoult plays the perfect megalomaniac, Lex Luthor, in James Gunn’s “Superman.”

As Superman’s arch-nemesis, the powerful owner of LutherCorp, he can’t stand that people look up to the Man of Steel and not him. With billions of dollars at his disposal and tech masterminds at his service, Luthor sets out to banish Superman from Earth forever.

For co-composer John Murphy, Luthor’s theme was one of the first he wrote. “James will send me the script and I’ll start writing main themes for the movie, and he’ll use those demos to shoot the movie too,” Murphy explains. It’s how the pair have collaborated ever since “Suicide Squad” and “Guardians of the Galaxy 3.” This time around, Gunn wanted to nail Luthor early in the process.

“There are actually two themes. There’s the main theme, which is established when Ultraman (Tom Welling) flies back to the LutherCorp headquarters,...

In Calling The New Superman Too Woke, Dean Cain Seems To Have Forgotten His Own Show
Image
Prior to Superman's release, Dean Cain made waves by calling the new film too "woke" due to the perceived storyline of the Man of Steel being viewed as an immigrant.

Specifically, Cain stated, "How woke is Hollywood going to make this character?...I think bringing Superman into it… I think that was a mistake by James Gunn to say it’s an immigrant thing, and I think it’s going to hurt the numbers on the movie. I was excited for the film. I am excited to see what it is… I’m rooting for it to be a success, but I don’t like that last political comment.”

However, DC fans are pointing out that Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman specifically dealt with this same issue.

In Season 4, Episode 14 of the show, titled "Meet John Doe," Superman faces an unexpected challenge, from a time-traveling villain named Tempus...

All the Live-Action Superman Performances, Ranked
Image
Superman is an icon for a reason, and few heroes have had more live-action representation than the Man of Steel.

While some will accuse the character of being a Boy Scout, based on how many different interpretations of the Kryptonian have appeared onscreen, there is clearly plenty of depth in the character to mine. From iconic performances like Christopher Reeve to small-screen outings from Dean Cain in “Lois and Clark” and Tom Welling in “Smallville,” there have been plenty of ways to enjoy Superman over the years.

These are the live-action performances of Superman, ranked from worst to best.

Dean Cain (Credit: ABC) 8. Dean Cain

Dean Cain spent more of his time in the red and blue tights in a TV series soap than out being Supes. “Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” shifted much of the focus away from the Kryptonian’s heroic adventures in lieu of...

Superman Actors Ranked: Which Actors Were the Best At Playing The Man of Steel?
Image
With the release of James Gunn’s Superman (check out Both of our Reviews), it’s time to look back at all of the actors who have played Superman over the years. It can be difficult to portray the power of Supes while still maintaining Clark’s vulnerability. We had to make some cuts (there are a ton of people who have voiced the Man of Steel), but we tried our best to represent the major ones from film and television. So let’s break down all of the performances and see where they rank as the best Superman portrayals.

And don’t forget to leave Your ranking in the comments below!

Superman: What Does Lex Luthor’s Pocket Dimension Mean? Will He Create His Battle Suit?
Image
Every different iteration of the Superman story has its own version of Lex Luthor scheming and plotting to take down the Man of Steel—each sharing certain similar eccentricities and egomaniac tendencies but retaining individuality at the same time. Gene Hackman portrayed a classic version of the billionaire supervillain in Christopher Reeve’s Superman movies, whereas Michael Rosenbaum’s frenemy relationship with Tom Welling’s version of Superman in Smallville was unmatched. Both Jon Cryer and Michael Cudlitz were excellent as menacing, vengeful Luthor in CW’s Arrowverse as they opposed Tyler Hoechlin’s version of Superman and Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl. Performances like these already posed a challenge for Nicholas Hoult, who played the most recent iteration of Lex Luthor in live action in Superman, and after seeing the movie I can easily say that he not only carried the burden of expectations with ease but also set a...

Men of Steel: Every Actor Who Has Played Superman – Photo Gallery
Image
Happy Superman Day! Today, the skies of cinema are looking bright. While the exhaustive search for the next Man of Steel concluded some time ago with the casting of David Corenswet in James Gunn’s upcoming Warner Bros. Superman, we can still celebrate the enduring legacy of the hero today. Rachel Brosnahan joins him in the role of the intrepid Lois Lane.

Corenswet has some big tights to fill in the role that has been played by a host of actors on film and TV, and radio.

The first Superman was voiced by veteran actor Bud Collyer on the Adventures of Superman radio show that aired from 1940 to 1951. Collyer was also the voice of Superman in the animated series Superman (1941-1943) and the New Adventures of Superman (1966-1970).

The first on-screen Clark Kent was Kirk Alyn in Superman (1948) and Atom Man vs. Superman (1950). George Reeves followed in Superman & the Mole Men...

James Gunn's Superman Movie Makes A Controversial Change (But It's Not The First Time)
Image
This article contains major spoilers for "Superman."

Superheroes have existed as a genre unto themselves for nearly a century, so naturally, they've undergone storytelling permutations. There's a big difference between the open-hearted sincerity of the Golden Age of comics and the postmodern deconstructionist likes of "Watchmen," the "Dark Knight" trilogy, and "Man of Steel." For the first few decades, the character of Superman was a reliably stalwart bellwether of Good. If he happened to waver from that path temporarily, it was usually some form of Kryptonite that was to blame, and not any character flaw. In Richard Donner's 1978 "Superman," not only was Kal-El (played by Christopher Reeve) portrayed as a true blue guy who never lies in a post-Watergate and Vietnam America, but his parents Jor-El (Marlon Brando) and Lara (Suzannah York) are depicted as pseudo-religious figures, the literal last people on their entire planet to both speak the truth and be wholly selfless.

Former Superman Actor Comments on Fans’ Deep Connection to the Man of Steel: “We’re All Clark Kent” [Exclusive]
Image
The new Superman movie is now playing in theaters everywhere, but a Superman star from another project just shed some light on why he thinks the character has been such a success. It’s no secret that Superman is easily one of the most recognizable comic book figures ever — the Kryptonian stands alone at the top with other titans like Spider-Man and Batman, three wildly different characters. One of the things that makes Superman — and Spider-Man, for that matter — so relatable is his humanity. Although he’s an alien from another planet who can stop a speeding bullet and lift an entire building, Superman is still a human who has experienced the same challenges the rest of us.

Collider’s Maggie Lovitt recently moderated a panel at FanExpo Denver for several former Superman actors, including George Newbern, Tim Daly, Brandon Routh, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, and Tyler Hoechlin. During this panel,...

Superman Review: James Gunn’s take on the Man of Steel is fun, but too many characters are squeezed in
Image
Plot: A plot by Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) causes the people of Earth to question whether Superman (David Corenswet) is truly their protector, sending the hero into an existential crisis over his place on his adopted planet.

Review: I’ll give James Gunn this much: his take on Superman is unlike anything we’ve ever seen on film. It couldn’t be more different from the Snyderverse films, which attempted to reinvent the character for a more cynical age, or the lower-key Richard Donner films. In this version, Gunn has brought to life a sprawling canvas featuring armies of metahumans (some of whom we meet in the movie), pocket universes, and giant kaiju. It throws in everything but the kitchen sink. That turns out to be a mixed blessing.

The best thing that can be said about Gunn’s Superman is that it’s tightly edited, never dull, and not...

'Superman & Lois' Star, 37, Hails "Very Classy" 'Superman' Star For Their Behavior After Taking Role [Exclusive]

At FanExpo Denver, it wasn’t a bird, it wasn’t a plane — it was a stage full of Supermen. Tyler Hoechlin, Brandon Routh, George Newbern, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, and Tim Daly all came together for a rare Superman panel — moderated by Collider's Maggie Lovitt — sharing stories, laughs, and heartfelt reflections on playing the iconic Man of Steel. But one of the panel’s most memorable moments came when Hoechlin addressed the franchise’s future—and the newest actor to don the cape, David Corenswet. In a moment of genuine warmth, Hoechlin recalled how the passing of the torch had gone behind the scenes.

“David sent me a really nice note as we were wrapping on Superman & Lois, and they were just getting going,” Hoechlin shared, speaking of the transition from The CW series to James Gunn’s upcoming film Superman. “It was just a really nice, classy note to reach out.

Superman Star Nicholas Hoult Reveals He Consulted Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum On Playing The Dcu's Lex Luthor
Image
Ahead of Superman's release, Nicholas Hoult revealed how previous Lex Luthor actor Michael Rosenbaum reacted to his casting as the iconic DC villain. The latter portrayed Lex in the hit television series Smallville for its first seven seasons, and his version of the character is a fan favorite.

Hoult's Lex has yet to debut, but the trailers for Superman set him up as a perfect foil to the titular hero (played by David Corenswet), with a smug attitude and an inferiority complex. Per Collider, the actor actually discussed playing Lex with Rosenbaum, who he called "so kind and encouraging."

Hoult continued by adding that Rosenbaum "really gave [him] a freedom and a confidence and a support that felt really lovely going into it." This meant more to the actor because Rosenbaum was "probably the first person [Hoult] saw play [Lex] when [he] was growing up" and getting "to interact with him and to...

'Superman' Star, 35, Reveals Which Previous Lex Luthor Actor Was One of His Biggest Influences
Image
Nicholas Hoult is stepping into one of the most iconic villain roles of all time, and it turns out the very first Lex Luthor he remembers seeing is the one fans of the early 2000s know best: Smallville’s Michael Rosenbaum. Long before he was cast as the tech-obsessed nemesis of the Man of Steel in James Gunn’s Superman, Hoult was just a teenager watching the CW’s hit show from his home in Wokingham. “Smallville was on the TV a lot when I was growing up,” Hoult said to Entertainment Weekly. “I think it was on Channel 4 or Channel 5 in the U.K. growing up.”

And it clearly left a mark. Now 35, Hoult is about to take flight opposite David Corenswet in Superman, and it’s not lost on him how wild it is that he got to meet Rosenbaum – his first Lex – before shooting. The...

Tom Welling's Superman And Smallville's Justice League Get Zack Snyder-Style Superhero Suits In Stunning DC Art
Image
New Smallville art depicts Tom Welling's Superman and the DC show's iteration of the Justice League with major costume changes. While the show ended more than a decade ago, many are still hoping to see Welling suit up as Smallville's Superman in the future through a potential continuation.

Even though the Smallville series finale ended with Clark Kent finally becoming Superman, Welling's version of the Man of Steel never wore the full suit, as the DC icon was only seen with the costume through CGI. It wasn't until the very final shot that Welling wore part of the Superman costume when Clark did the famous shirt-rip before cutting to the credits.

While time will tell if Welling will get to reprise his version of Superman in the future, Buffy2Ville shared artwork recently of what Clark would look like in a Zack Snyder-inspired superhero suit. The artist...

'Superman' Star, 31, Reveals Surprising Christopher Reeve Connection [Exclusive]
Image
Superman is due to fly into theaters in less than two weeks, and now one of the film’s leading stars has unearthed a major connection between him and a former Clark Kent actor. Juilliard graduate David Corenswet is the latest to take on the role of the Man of Steel in James Gunn’s Superman, following in a long line of stars such as Henry Cavill, Tom Welling, Dean Caine, Brandon Routh, Tyler Hoechlin, and Christopher Reeve, another fellow Juilliard graduate. Collider’s Perri Nemiroff caught up with Corenswet and new Lois Lane actor Rachel Brosnan ahead of Superman, and she asked what it is about Juilliard’s training that so effectively prepares stars like him and Reeve to excel at playing Superman:

"I was astonished. I did not expect it at the screen test to feel, multiple times, that my training at Juilliard had perfectly prepared me for the screen test specifically,...

Superman 2025 Pays Tribute to Smallville With This James Gunn-Approved Detail
Image
James Gunn brought over a unique detail directly from Smallville into his own upcoming Superman film to pay homage to the Tom Welling-led TV series. Smallville is one of the most beloved projects ever created that centers around the Man of Steel. Superman is already expected to include small details from past iterations of Superman (the John Williams score from the original 1978 film was already incorporated into the music for the new movie), so it is no surprise that Gunn is using a rather important piece of Smallville instead of maintaining complete accuracy from DC Comics.

In James Gunn's upcoming Superman film, which will be the first live-action project in the new Dcu, Lex Luthor's corporation will officially be called LuthorCorp instead of LexCorp. Many fans will be more familiar with LexCorp Industries as the name of Luthor's business, which is what the corporation was known as in the...

James Gunn Shares First Look At a Major Villain Fans Have Been Speculating On
Image
James Gunn has shared an even better look at one of the most mysterious characters to be seen in footage from his upcoming Superman movie. Fans have been speculating about the true identity of Gunn's Ultraman.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gunn shared a new photo of the character, captioning it simply, 'Ultraman.' The identity of the character will likely remain a mystery until the film hits theaters on July 11, but fans were quick to share their theories in response to Gunn's post. "Ultraman is Henry Cavill," one user boldly claimed. "Such a Brilliant move to get All fans united." As the former Superman actor himself, Cavill's name popped up frequently in replies to Gunn's post, with others believing it could be Chris Pratt.

One thing that has fans stumped about Gunn's Ultraman character is that he looks different from his typical comic book counterpart.

Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler Compares New Marvel Project Ironheart To A Classic Superhero TV Show
Image
As the Ironheart TV show gets ready to arrive on Disney+, Ryan Coogler credits a major superhero series as inspiration for the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe project. After having been absent from the MCU since her initial introduction in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Riri Williams is finally making her way back into the franchise in 2025, but this time through her own Ironheart series. However, with Ironheart becoming the latest MCU TV show, it appears one of DC's most iconic heroes had quite the influence on Riri's spinoff.

During an exclusive interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan, Coogler, who serves as an executive producer on Ironheart; showrunner Chinaka Hodge; and episodes 4-6 director, Angela Barnes, spoke about the mixture of tones for the MCU drama and the inspirations that they pulled from when creating the show. While Hodge and Barnes looked at the importance of telling the story of a...

Superman Star David Corenswet Reveals What It Was Really Like Suiting Up As The Dcu's Man Of Steel
Image
Recently, Superman star David Corenswet opened up about donning the cape, revealing the downsides to wearing a supersuit. The actor makes his debut in the James Gunn-helmed film this July alongside Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult. Corenswet joins a long line of actors to play the Man of Steel, starting way back in the 1940s with Kirk Alyn up until the 2020s with Henry Cavill. Each Superman has had a distinct suit—with the notable exception of Tom Welling in Smallville—and these outfits come with some pitfalls.

Speaking with People, Corenswet revealed the most constricting part of wearing the suit: bathroom breaks. The actor explained: "There are lots of zippers, but there's no single zipper that allows me to go to the bathroom, which you would think would be quite straightforward, but nothing is straightforward about these things." According to Corenswet, tailoring the costume to make it more easily removable was cost-prohibitive.

’Superman’s David Corenswet Reveals Which Former Man of Steel He’s Compared to the Most
Image
Superman will fly into theaters next month on July 11, and the film’s leading star has just shed some light on which former actor he’s compared to most. Taking on the lead role of Clark Kent in James Gunn’s Superman is David Corenswet, who has previously appeared in big hits like Twisters and Pearl. Corenswet takes over the role from beloved actor Henry Cavill, who first played the character in 2013’s Man of Steel before suiting up for the final time in the Black Adam post-credit scene. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly to talk about Superman and the future of the Dcu, Corenswet was asked which former actor he’s been compared to most, and it's one who has never appeared on the big screen:

"I’ve also got a lot of physical comparisons to Tom Welling, who played Superman and Clark Kent on Smallville. When I was growing up,...

Image
Tom Welling's Clark Kent gets the perfect Superman suit in a new DC concept video, showing what the Smallville hero could look like today. Although it's been more than a decade since his DC show came to an end, there has always been the hope that Smallville would return in some form, following the serie's continued success on streaming. David Corenswet Says His Superman Is More Smallville Than Snyderverse
Image
The Superman reboot is almost here, and, according to the new trailer, tickets are officially on sale for James Gunn’s 2025 DC tentpole. But while some fans are ready to pit the Dcu’s David Corenswet against the Dceu’s Henry Cavill in a Man of Steel battle royale, Corenswet himself is looking a little further back and comparing himself to Tom Welling’s Clark Kent in Smallville. In a chat with Entertainment Weekly, the 31-year-old actor didn’t shy away from comparisons. But instead of mentioning Cavill’s ultra-ripped, god-like Kal-El, he pointed to Smallville‘s Tom Welling as his inspiration. “I’ve also got a lot of physical comparisons to Tom Welling,” he said. “When I was growing up, he was the Superman who was on TV every week.” Smallville premiered in October 2001. That means Corenswet would’ve been around eight at that time. Superman has been a...

"He Was The Superman": David Corenswet Addresses Comparisons With Smallville's Tom Welling
Image
Superman star David Corenswet addresses the comparisons made between his Man of Steel and Tom Welling's Smallville take on the DC icon. 2025 will mark the year that Krypton's last son returns to the world of cinema, as James Gunn's Superman movie is only a month out from its big release. With Corenswet becoming the next live-action incarnation of the Man of Steel, he will be a Superman for a whole new generation.

Much as Corenswet will serve as Superman for a new audience, the actor himself recently revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that Smallville was something that he grew up with back when Welling's show was on the air. While addressing that he gets a lot of "physical comparisons" to the Smallville star, Corenswet discussed Welling's vital role as Superman in the 2000s, stating:

I've also got a lot of physical comparisons to Tom Welling,...

'Superman' Star Reveals the Surprising Struggle of Playing the Man of Steel in the Dcu
Image
Superman soars into theaters on July 11, finally bringing the rebooted Dcu to the big screen. Along with a smattering of popular and underappreciated DC Comics characters, the film also includes a classic Man of Steel design choice: the iconic red trunks.David Corenswet plays Clark Kent/Superman in the film, and, as phenomenal as he appears in the trailers and marketing material, the actor said it was a unique challenge to portray the beloved superhero. Actors often complain about the difficulty of intense and emotionally demanding roles, but David Corenswet had the opposite problem when playing Superman in the Dcu.

David Corenswet recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly alongside several of his Superman castmates, and the actor shared the surprising challenge of playing the Dcu's Man of Steel. Many would assume that the hardest challenge would be the workouts, especially as Henry Cavill's physique in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel...

Superman Saves Civilians And Guy Gardner Gives Villains The Finger In Action-Packed New TV Spots
Image
Tickets for Superman go on sale later today, and three 15-second TV spots have just hit social media. They're packed with new footage and include plenty of talking points for James Gunn's upcoming Dcu movie.

We learn that Mister Terrific is no fan of Krypto (and more than a little p*ssed that Superman has brought him to what looks like the movie's final battle) and Guy Gardner using his Green Lantern Corps ring to give his foes the finger. Lois Lane even drops a "Holy shit," a fitting response to some of the epic action featured here.

Metropolis' Kryptonian protector, meanwhile, makes a point of saving civilians, holding up a collapsing building as a woman flees in her car. It's hard not to compare Superman's actions with what we saw in the Dceu, especially as that world's Kal-El typically allowed destruction to rain down around him.

This Is the Superman David Corenswet Gets Compared With Most (& It's Not Henry Cavill)
Image
Superman is an iconic superhero who has been portrayed by several actors, but in live-action projects, as well as voiceovers in animated films or series. Now, the new actor to play Clark Kent/ Kal-El is David Corenswet.

The actor is the person to take over from Henry Cavill, who was the face of Zack Snyder's DC Extended Universe between 2013's Man of Steel. Since Cavill was the most recent person to play the character, there have been some comparisons between him and Corenswet, especially since the Snyderverse continues to be extremely popular, even four years later. However, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Corenswet revealed there is another Superman actor he gets compared most with, and that is not Cavill.

Superman is one of the most iconic superheroes. The character is a staple in the genre and is arguably one of DC's biggest stars. While Corenswet is the newest Superman,...

'I Think That's Close': James Gunn Addresses Fan Speculation About Ultra Man's True Identity
Image
James Gunn recently addressed fan speculation regarding Ultra Man, a mysterious figure seen in the trailer for his new Superman movie. Gunn revealed the character's ties to Lex Luthor.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn talked about Team Lex's Ultra Man, who can be seen in a black suit in the official Superman trailer. The character has abilities similar to the Man of Steel's, including laser vision, superhuman strength and even flight, and fans have speculated that Ultra Man could be Luthor's attempt to create his own version of the Kryptonian superhero. "I think that's close," Gunn shared. "Ultra Man is sort of Lex's thug, and is pretty powerful."

In DC Comics continuity, Ultraman is often portrayed as an evil alternate-universe counterpart of Superman, possessing the same superpowers as his main-world counterpart. What sets Ultraman apart is his weaknesses, with the character often crippled by yellow sunlight or...

A Fan-Favorite 'Smallville' Actor Will Return to the DC Universe in James Gunn's 'Superman'
Image
The Fortress of Solitude is getting a familiar voice. Michael Rosenbaum, best known to DC fans as the definitive Lex Luthor from Smallville, has confirmed that he’ll appear in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film — albeit in a smaller, voice-only role. During a panel at Fan Expo Dallas hosted by ScreenRant’s Joseph Deckelmeier, Rosenbaum was asked whether he would be involved in the new DC Universe. He gave fans exactly what they wanted to hear:

“I don’t know. James asked me to do something fun, so I have a couple of lines that I voice. It’s funny, in a way... Anyway, there was nothing in this one, but he’s the head of DC, so I think he can stick me in a movie or something. He’s thoughtful, so I hope that happens. But I think the movie’s gonna be great. It comes out on my birthday!

Discussion: Who Do You Think Has Been The Best Live-Action Superman?
Image
Everyone has their favorite something: Favorite chocolate bar, movie-theater chain, restaurant, food; you name it, someone has it. But what about your favorite Superman? It may be odd to think about, given how momentous it feels every time someone gets cast as the Man of Steel, but there have actually been a lot of Clark Kents throughout the decades... like, a lot.

Starting from the 1940s, the Big Blue Boy Scout has been a consistent presence in both television and film. Having so many iterations of the same character got me wondering something: What is the community's favorite live-action Superman? The iteration you felt best captured the Man of Steel. The actor you take one quick look at and proudly express to yourself, "Yes, that is my Superman."

As mentioned, there have been a lot of interpretations of the character. So, for those who need a refresher, below is a...

Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum Addresses Potential Appearance In James Gunn's Dcu: "He's Got A Great Vision"
Image
Since the announcement that James Gunn was not only taking over the DC Universe but also directing a Superman film, fans have speculated where his usual friends who star in each of his films will fit in. His brother, Sean Gunn, is playing businessman Maxwell Lord. Nathan Fillion is playing Guy Gardner/Green Lantern. Alan Tudyk and Michael Rooker voice robots in Superman's Fortress of Solitude. There is one member of Gunn's circle, however, with substantial DC ties who had as-of-yet joined the franchise--that audiences knew of.

Michael Rosenbaum starred as Lex Luthor in the Superman prequel Smallville for seven seasons, where he became a fan favorite. Coincidentally, he's also close friends with Gunn, having even appeared as Martinex in the latter's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. Naturally, fans guess he may appear in Superman. In a recent appearance at Fan Expo Dallas, Rosenbaum both addressed his potential...

Tom Welling Reveals An Important Lesson He Got From Og Superman Christopher Reeve On The Set Of Smallville
Image
Despite ending nearly 15 years ago, Smallville remains a classic among both Superman fans and casual audiences. The hit series lasted for 10 seasons and starred Tom Welling as a young Clark Kent before donning his signature blue, red, and yellow suit. What set Smallville apart however is its split emphasis on Clark and his eventual nemesis, Lex Luthor, portrayed by Michael Rosenbaum. The two young men cross paths when the former saves the latter after his car careens into a lake, subsequently forming a brother-like friendship.

Aside from Welling and Rosenbaum, the cast included Kristin Kreuk, Erica Durance, John Glover, Sam Jones III, Justin Hartley, John Schneider, and Annette O'Toole, among others. Though its cast was a major part of the series' appeal, another factor in its success was its reverential treatment of Superman's history. From previous franchise stars returning to music cues to obscure lore mentions, Smallville didn't need Clark...

Tom Welling's 2005 Remake Of John Carpenter Horror Classic Is Now Streaming For Free
Image
Tom Welling’s hit 2005 remake of a John Carpenter horror movie classic is now streaming for free. Carpenter’s own originals remain hugely popular, of course, and are widely available across all the streaming services. Carpenter himself no longer directs movies, his last one having been released in 2010, but he does continue composing scores, lending his unique brand of minimalist spookiness to other people’s films. He also continues enjoying the checks he receives from folks doing remakes of his movies, as the ever-cranky legend once famously quipped.

Those checks have indeed come at a steady pace over the years, as filmmakers continue revisiting Carpenter’s works in search of stories ripe for retelling. 2011’s remake of The Thing should have perhaps been a deterrent to further mining of the director’s filmography for exploitable IP, given its poor box office performance ($31 million worldwide on a budget of $38 million) and...

Tom Welling’s Older Superman Flies Through Metropolis In Epic Smallville Sequel Art
Image
Tom Welling returns as Superman in Smallville art that imagines the Man of Steel taking flight years later. Smallville is one of the best live-action DC series. It was the show that paved the way for the Arrowverse, DC's most famous shared universe on TV. Welling's Clark Kent, Michael Rosenabaum's Lex Luthor, and more versions of classic characters from all over Smallville's ten seasons continue to be held highly as some of the best takes on iconic DC characters to this day. At the end of the show, Clark finally became Superman.

On DeviantArt, Buffy2ville shared a custom Gif of Tom Welling's older Superman in full costume flying through Metropolis.

Welling's Clark Kent only put on the Superman suit physically for the last shot of the Smallville series finale. While the episode itself had quite a few sequences with Superman in action as the hero sent Apokolips back into space,...

“That would have been really cool”: Tom Welling Had 1 Major Regret About ‘Smallville’ That Everyone Wanted
Image
It has been nearly two decades and a half since Smallville first debuted on the screens and almost fifteen years since its last episode aired, and yet, it only feels like yesterday. With Tom Welling leading as Clark Kent/Superman, the show continues to rule fans’ hearts as one of the best TV superhero shows brought to the tables by DC to date.

Not to mention, the series even served as Welling’s breakthrough role in the entertainment industry as he gave one of the finest performances of his entire career. But even after working in such a near-perfect show, there have been some regrets that the actor still holds in his heart, especially one that everyone wanted: The inclusion of Batman.
