Danielle Fishel, Shaun Weiss Recall ‘Hormonal’ Scene From ‘Worst’ …
Image
Reading Time: 3 minutes

You might recall Boy Meets World as the ’90s sitcom in which a young Ben Savage navigated the rough waters of adolescence.

But like so many sitcoms of that era, the show sort of overstayed its welcome, and by the end, it was a 2000s show in which its teen stars were all grown up and trying to make sense of adulthood (no one has ever succeeded in this task).

Anyway, viewers got to see Cory and Topanga go from middle school sweethearts to man and wife, and the change in their circumstances presented new challenges to both the young couple and the show’s writers.

'Not Sure [Disney's] Aware They Made It': Ben Stiller Reflects On Controversial Comedy 30 Years Later
Image
Ben Stiller doesn't think his 30-year-old comedy would be released by Disney today. Nevertheless, he can still remember how fun it was to make the movie three decades ago.

In 1995, director Steven Brill's Heavyweights, which was co-written with Judd Apatow, premiered in movie theaters. Primarily consisting of younger actors, the series was set at a "fat camp" for children. Stiller starred in dual roles, playing Tony Perksi Jr., a fitness entrepreneur who takes over the camp whilst the kids work to overthrow him; Stiller also plays the character's father. Looking back at the movie upon reaching its 30th anniversary, Stiller shared a message on X acknowledging that the film would be seen as much more problematic today.

Somehow I don’t think this will be at the head of the Disney+ queue ever. In fact I’m not sure they are aware they made it. But that was an...

Judd Apatow & Ben Stiller Celebrate 30th Anniversary Of ‘Heavyweights’: “I Don’t Think This Will Be At The Head Of The Disney+ Queue Ever”
Image
Judd Apatow and Ben Stiller are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Heavyweights, a Disney film released in 1995.

The comedy, directed by Steven Brill, who co-wrote it with Apatow, was released on February 17, 1995, which 2025 is 30 years since it premiered.

“Somehow I don’t think this will be at the head of the Disney+ queue ever,” Stiller posted on X, the microblogging platform formerly known as Twitter. “In fact I’m not sure they are aware they made it. But that was an incredibly fun summer in North Carolina 30 years ago.”

Heavyweights revolve around a weight loss camp for boys and the campers working to overthrow the fitness entrepreneur. Stiller had dual roles in the film and co-starred with Tom McGowan, Aaron Schwartz, Shaun Weiss, Tom Hodges, Leah Lail, Paul Feig, Kenan Thompson, David Bowe, Max Goldblatt, Robert Zalkind, Patrick Labrecque, Jeffrey Tambor, Jerry Stiller, Anne Meara, and many more.

Original Mighty Ducks Star Suits Back Up In Nostalgic Photos
Image
One of the original Mighty Ducks stars has returned to suit up again in new nostalgic photos. The Mighty Ducks is a 1992 comedy about an underdog hockey team that is coached by a lawyer who is forced to do community service. The Mighty Ducks was directed by Stephen Herek and featured a leading cast including Emilio Estevez, Joss Ackland, Lane Smith, Heidi King, Josef Sommer, Joshua Jackson, Elden Henson, and Shaun Weiss. The film had two follow-up sequels, with D2: The Mighty Ducks in 1994 and D3: The Mighty Ducks in 1996.

Now, a post from Weiss gives a nostalgic look at The Mighty Ducks. In the images, Weiss wears his hockey jersey and helmet, and in the last shot, he is in the rink again. Mighty Ducks star Shaun Weiss hits the ice for the first time in three decades
Image
Shaun Weiss played Greg Goldberg in The Mighty Ducks, but it’s been a long time since he’s laced up his skates and hit the ice. In fact, it’s been nearly three decades, with the last time being during the production of the third Mighty Ducks movie. Given the actor’s health and addiction struggles, it’s heartwarming to see him having some fun.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Shaun Herman Weiss (@shaunweiss)

“Last time I skated was the final day of filming D3. It’s like riding a bike,” Weiss said. “With bones that have aged 30 years. Such a blast working on promos for FunkAway. Thanks for giving me a reason to lace up.“

Although Weiss continued to work after the Mighty Ducks movies, his career didn’t take off the way he hoped. He found himself getting in trouble with the law and struggling with methamphetamine addiction.

Paul Feig Teases ‘Freaks and Geeks’ Reunion Now That the Cast Is ‘All in Their Prime’
Image
Freaks and Geeks brought ‘90s teens some of the most relatable lines on television (bangers like “I don’t need another friend. I’ve got two”) as well as helped launch the careers of budding comedy legends Busy Phillips, Jason Segel and Seth Rogen, to name just a few.

Other famous Freaks and Geeks alums include — take a deep breath — Linda Cardellini, John Francis Daley, Martin Starr, James Franco, Sarah Hagan, Samm Levine, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Rashida Jones, David Krumholtz, Lizzy Caplan, Shia Labeouf, Ben Stiller, Leslie Mann, Mike White, Jason Schwartzman, Ann Dowd and Shaun Weiss.

Now exhale!

Too bad the 1999 show with a nearly-perfect script and cast was slashed by NBC after only a single season, but its tragic cancellation earned it cult classic status. Freaks and Geeks, created by Paul Feig and exec-produced by Judd Apatow, has been on numerous lists of the greatest shows of all time.

Mighty Ducks Star Shaun Weiss Celebrates Sobriety With 90s Stars
Image
After four years of sobriety, former child star Shaun Weiss celebrated in a big way with some old friends from the 1990s.

After rising to fame as a child actor, which includes playing Greg Goldberg in all three Mighty Ducks movies, Shaun Weiss struggled heavily with addiction and substance abuse as an adult. He was at his lowest point at the start of 2020 when he was arrested on charges of burglary and being under the influence of methamphetamine. At the time, the actor's mugshot shocked his fans, as Weiss looked very unrecognizable. He has since cleaned up, looking much healthier and taking on a career doing stand-up comedy. Per TMZ, the Heavyweights actor performed at the Corbin Bowl in Tarzana, California to celebrate his fourth year of sobriety, and it was with the support of other 90s stars.

Why Disney's Heavyweights Wouldn't Work Today
Image
When Disney's Heavyweights is mentioned, most viewers who remember the 1995 film reflect on it fondly. After all, the movie was considered a classic and can still be watched on Disney+. Unfortunately, however, not all pictures age gracefully, and Heavyweights is no exception. The feature still has its moments, but the premise and certain scenes are hard to watch now. It's safe to say that if the film were made or rebooted today, it wouldn't go over so well.

The film had a great cast and starred Kenan Thompson, Shaun Weiss and Ben Stiller. Still, the issue with Heavyweights is its subject, which follows Gerald Garner (Aaron Schwartz) to a "fat camp." As a result, the '90s family film focuses on the children's weight, which is no surprise given the title, but in some cases, exploits it for laughs, which is problematic by today's standards.

‘Freaks and Geeks’ Alum Shaun Weiss Admitted to Selling Judd Apatow’s Laptop for Drugs
Image
Judd Apatow’s passion for mentorship cost him a laptop.

The comedy mega-producer loaned his computer to “Freaks and Geeks” alum and mentee Shaun Weiss after the actor left rehab. Weiss played Sean in the one-season NBC series.

“Judd Apatow put me in a rehab place. He was giving me a chance. That was the other thing that was really heartbreaking, too,” Weiss said during the “Dopey” podcast (via Page Six). “He was really being my mentor and teaching me how to write and giving me different jobs and assignments that really cultivated me as a writer. He got me a job writing jokes for the Oscars; he just gave me all these gigs, grooming me for better things.”

Yet Weiss, who also starred in Apatow’s 1995 film “Heavyweights,” pawned Apatow’s computer to score drugs. The laptop was the same one on which Apatow wrote the 2005 movie “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,...

The Mighty Ducks: Actor Shaun Weiss discusses redemption after meth addiction
Image
Ducks never say die! And actor Shaun Weiss–aka Mighty Ducks goalie Greg Goldberg–is hoping to get that message across significantly.

In a recent episode of the online chat show Addiction Talk, Shaun Weiss opened up candidly about his problems with drug abuse, theft, and his rather disturbing mugshot, looking a couple of decades older than his 40-year-old self.

“It’s hard to see those images…When I see them, they kind of shock me still…I was avoiding reflective surfaces, so I didn’t know what I looked like. I’m not exaggerating.” He continued, apologizing to Mighty Ducks fans. “I’m really sorry ‘Ducks’ fans had to see me like that…I’m really hoping my story can be useful, so it’s not just a sad thing that happened.”

Following personal loss and a slumped career, Shaun Weiss began drinking heavily before turning to heroin and meth,...

The Mighty Ducks Star Shaun Weiss Gets Burglary Case Dropped, Graduates Drug Court Program
Image
After an infamous arrest in early 2020, things are now going very well for The Mighty Ducks star Shaun Weiss. On Thursday, the Yuba County District Attorney's Office in California announced that Weiss graduated from a drug court program this week, a major milestone in his path to recovery. Better yet, his graduation means that the burglary case against the former child star in the county has been dismissed.

Shaun Weiss, who'd been struggling with addiction for years, was arrested in January 2020 for breaking into a person's garage and gaining entry into their car by shattering the glass. Officers who responded to the scene found Weiss in the car and believed that he showed the symptoms of being under the influence of methamphetamine. Cops booked him on suspicion of burglary and drug charges, and his mugshot quickly went viral as the actor's appearance had drastically changed since fans last saw him.

Kenan Thompson Will Return for The Mighty Ducks Season 2 If It Happens
Image
Kenan Thompson will return for The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers if the series gets a second season on Disney+. Serving as a sequel to the original movie trilogy from the 1990s, Game Changers stars Emilio Estevez reprising his role as Coach Gordon Bombay. Recently wrapping its first season on Disney+, the show also featured some of the original Ducks coming back for special appearances, though there were many key characters that didn't make it.

One person who was nowhere to be seen was Kenan Thompson, who played Russ Tyler in the second and third Mighty Ducks movies. It was a bummer not to see him, though it wasn't shocking, as Thompson's already balancing his SNL schedule with his new sitcom Kenan. Even so, the former child star has apparently agreed to appear in a potential second season, as showrunner Steven Brill revealed in a new interview with TVLine.

The Mighty Ducks Star Shaun Weiss Celebrates 265 Days of Sobriety with a New Smile
Image
The Mighty Ducks star Shaun Weiss celebrated 265 days of sobriety with a new smile. Back in August of 2018, things were not looking good for Weiss. The actor had a problem with meth and alcohol and was living on the streets. He was arrested more than once and each mugshot looked worse than the one that came before. Weiss was unrecognizable, looking nothing like the loveable goalie known as Goldberg from The Mighty Ducks franchise.

Shaun Weiss was arrested again at the beginning of the year over burglary charges and drug charges. He was placed in jail and The Mighty Ducks fan community rallied behind him. Free rehab was offered by many, including Lindsay Lohan's father, Michael. Weiss' good friend Drew Gallagher even set up a GoFundMe to help get him back on his feet. Jailed Mighty Ducks Star Shaun Weiss Gets Free Rehab Offer

Former child star Shaun Weiss, best known for his role as the goalie in The Mighty Ducks, has a free trip to rehab waiting for him as soon as he is released from jail. Late last month, Shaun Weiss was arrested and imprisoned on burglary and methamphetamine charges, and the story made headlines after his unrecognizable mugshot went viral. While the image led to widespread mockery when the news was shared on social media, it likewise brought about lots of support for Weiss from fans of the '90s star disheartened to see just how much he's fallen from grace.

One such person wanting to see Weiss improve his life is Lindsay Lohan's father, Michael, who might know a thing or two about seeing the life of a former child star deteriorating. After Michael reached out to a friend at the Ascend Detox and Recovery center in southeast Texas,...

Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series (1996)
The Mighty Ducks star Shaun Weiss was recently arrested and his mug shot is rather shocking. Mighty Ducks Star Arrested and the Mug Shot Is Shocking
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. One The Mighty Ducks star found himself arrested this past week. The charges aren't that offensive. But the mug shot is. And once fans got a look at it, they were utterly shocked.

Remember Goldberg the goalie? Well, he's almost unrecognizable in his portrait snapped by the Oroville police. The actor, whose real name is Shaun Weiss, was taken into police custody over the weekend. He was arrested around 1am for public intoxication. But it wasn't all that serious of an offense.
