Sony Pictures Television Strikes LatAm Deal For Erotically-Charged Thriller ‘Amor Bandido’; CineNova Releasing Takes U.S. Rights From FilmSharks

Exclusive: Entering the second week of the Cannes Film Festival, Sony Pictures Television has snapped up multi-territory Latin American rights to FilmSharks’ Amor Bandido, with Raymond Murray’s CineNova Releasing taking U.S. rights.

The film, from Daniel Werner, premiered last year at the Buenes Aires Film Festival (Bafici) and has already sold to Bluelabel Pictures (South Korea) and Av Jet (Taiwan), with negotiations ongoing with companies in France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain and Japan.

Producers are Werner Cine, Incaa, Pucara Films and Nagoya Films and Renato Quattordio (Yo Adolescente), Romina Ricci and Rafael Ferro star.

It follows Joan (Quarrordio), a naive 16-year-old son of a wealthy family who decides to run away from home with his 35-year-old high school art teacher. After discovering he has fallen into a trap, he has to fight for his life.

FilmSharks Pounces on Argentine Festival Hit ‘Bandit Love’ (Exclusive)

Buenos Aires-based FilmSharks Int’l has nabbed worldwide rights to Daniel Werner’s feature debut, erotic thriller “Bandit Love” (“Amor Bandido”), after it screened at Argentine indie film festival Bafici, where it garnered both audience and critical acclaim.

“This slow-burn thriller, disguised as an illicit romance, surprised everyone at its Bafici premiere and critics went mad. It’s a kind of high-concept festival gem that is hard to find nowadays … all major festivals and buyers will chase this one,” FilmSharks CEO Guido Rud said. Rud has also acquired the remake rights of the film for his subsidiary, the Remake Co.

Macao launches Crouching Tigers Project Lab

Nicolas Winding Refn, Karim Ainouz and Lu Chuan are among the directors of projects selected for the inaugural Crouching Tigers Project Lab at the 1st International Film Festival & Awards Macao (Iffam).

The new lab, which takes place December 9-11, will present 12 projects, separated into genre, auteur and projects from partner organisations (see full list below).

Selected filmmakers will be able to interact with potential funders and distributors, as well as participate in script consultations, a pitch forum and workshops. The 12 projects will also vie for three cash awards of $20,000, to be presented by Fox International Productions, and one award of $10,000 each from Ivanhoe Pictures and China’s Huace Media.

The lab has been structured around three concepts:

*Innovative perspectives on the integration of Asian and non-Asian elements in film script and production.

*A special focus on genre cinema, including both its classic forms and contemporary trends originated by new technologies and formats.
