Why Survivor’s Host Invited ‘White Lotus’ Creator Mike White to Return for Season 50
Image
The 50th season of Survivor is gearing up to hit screens in February 2026, and it’s already creating a buzz. This milestone season will bring back a familiar face, Mike White, the creator of the hit HBO show The White Lotus, who first appeared on Survivor during its 37th season.

When it was announced in May that Mike White would be returning for this special season, fans were split. Some were thrilled to see him back on the island, while others wondered why someone so successful in Hollywood would choose to come back to the competition. Jeff Probst, the host and executive producer of Survivor, recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about why White’s return made sense.

Probst said, “There is no hiding that he is the biggest writer, director, show creator in the world right now, and he wanted to come back and play Survivor. So I can...

Why ‘Survivor’s’ Host Let ‘White Lotus’ Creator Mike White Come Back for Season 50
Image
The 50th season of Survivor is coming to CBS in February 2026, and it’s bringing back a very familiar face, Mike White, the creator of the hit HBO show The White Lotus.

Fans had mixed reactions when the news broke in May that White would be returning for this special season. Some were excited to see him back, while others wondered why someone so successful in Hollywood would want to compete again on the reality show.

Jeff Probst, the host and executive producer of Survivor, recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about why they decided to bring Mike White back for season 50. Probst acknowledged that White is one of the biggest names in the entertainment world right now.

“There is no hiding that he is the biggest writer, director, show creator in the world right now, and he wanted to come back and play Survivor,” he said. “So I can...

‘White Lotus’ Alums From Different Seasons Are Teaming Up for a New Mystery Series
Image
Few people return for subsequent seasons of HBO's hit show The White Lotus after their time on it is done. Connie Britton helped launch the show's first season, while Sam Nivola starred in the third season. The two might not have crossed paths on set -- until now. The duo is set to star in Phony, a new mystery series that has been ordered at Hulu, according to recent reports. Britton plays Ellen while Nivola plays Sonny. Ellen is Sonny's mother, the latter who is concerned that an impostor has replaced his mother after he survives a car accident. The mother-son duo are particularly close, as Ellen is a single mother and Sonny's best friend. Additionally, she is the principal of his high school, and Ellen loves Sonny more than any of her students. Anthony King is the showrunner and an executive producer.

Britton spoke to Collider's Isabella Soares...

‘Survivor’s Jeff Probst Says Mike White ‘Should Never’ Put Him on ‘White Lotus’
Image
Mike White loves to cast Survivor alums on The White Lotus. Natalie Cole, Carl Boudreaux, Christian Hubicki, Angelina Keeley, Alec Merlino, and Kara Kay have all appeared in guest star and cameo roles in the show’s three-season run on HBO. But Survivor host Jeff Probst doesn’t think he should be recruited for the next cameo from his reality competition show. Probst shared his thoughts on why now two-time Survivor contestant White loves the show so much, and why he would come back to the play the game after the success of The White Lotus, in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Probst argues that Survivor and The White Lotus are both studies of human behavior, theorizing that White learned a lot about that from watching and playing Survivor. “I’m surprised people aren’t asking, ‘Why is one of the greatest writers in the history of Hollywood so interested in Survivor?...

Why Jeff Probst Finally Let Mike White Return to ‘Survivor’ (and if He’d Make a ‘White Lotus’ Cameo)
Image
Jeff Probst would be lying if he said he didn’t know Mike White being cast on the 50th season of Survivor was going to cause such a commotion. Still, the host and executive producer admits he “was a little surprised at how much attention” the news drew in when CBS unveiled its slate of returning players.

“The thing that’s most interesting about Mike playing for the second time is there is no hiding that he is the biggest writer, director, show creator in the world right now, and he wanted to come back and play Survivor,” Probst tells The Hollywood Reporter. “So I can understand why people had a reaction.”

Hollywood can’t seem to understand why White would want to trade in his star-studded life as the writer, director and creator of HBO’s smash hit The White Lotus for a second spin on the remote reality show.

Hulu Picks Up Nick Paley’s ‘Phony’ To Series Starring Connie Britton & Sam Nivola; Anthony King Joins As Co-Showrunner
Image
Nick Paley’s Hulu pilot Phony has been picked up to series at Hulu, starring Connie Britton and Sam Nivola. In addition to Paley, the project hails from Drew Goddard‘s Goddard Textiles and 20th Television.

Anthony King has joined the project as co-showrunner and executive producer.

Phony is a coming-of-age mystery about a teenager who wakes up in the hospital after a car accident to discover his mom — his only parent and his best friend — appears to have been replaced by an impostor.

Britton will play Ellen, a single mom to Sonny and the principal of his high school.

Nivola will play Sonny, the most beloved student at his high school, but the only person who really knows him is his mom.

Paley wrote, directed, and edited the first episode and executive produced the half-hour series. King will serve as co-showrunner and EP alongside Britton,...

‘Severance’ Director Ben Stiller Is Jealous of How Fast ‘The Bear’ Is Made: ‘Why Can’t I Do That?’
Image
Ben Stiller is in awe of how fast “The Bear” is shot. The “Severance” director and executive producer pointed to how “The Bear” has churned out four seasons across three years; “Severance” meanwhile took that same amount of time to make just a second season. Production on “Severance” Season 2 began way back in 2022, the same year that “The Bear” debuted.

Stiller cited how he would prefer to work as “The Bear” co-showrunner Christopher Storer does, or at least with the same speed. “Chris Storer will shoot an episode in an hour and a half or something on ‘The Bear.’ I’m like, ‘Goddamn, why can’t I do that?'” Stiller told Vanity Fair.

As for the years between Seasons 1 and 2, Stiller added, “On a certain level, it’s just the affirmation of when you follow your instinct — knowing that you have to make sure something feels right, and that...

Enlightened: Why The White Lotus Creator's First HBO Series Was Canceled
Image
"The White Lotus" is not the first time that Mike White has worked with HBO, although his short-lived series "Enlightened," which ran from 2011 to 2013, did not take popular culture by storm. Laura Dern delivers a fearless performance as Amy Jellicoe, a corporate executive whose nervous-breakdown–turned–philosophical awakening inspires her to become an agent of change. Although critics loved the series, there was a running joke in the press that it was the show no one was watching. "Enlightened" never drew more than 300,000 viewers per episode, and at one point dropped as low as 95,000. "Enlightened" was canceled due to these low ratings after just two seasons.

But it wasn't only low ratings that led to the cancellation. Despite showcasing a powerhouse like Laura Dern, Mike White told Vulture that the fact that he had a female lead is what kept him from drawing in wider audiences:

"That sounds kind of cynical,...

Why Did Jeff Probst Quit Survivor? Real Reason Behind His Departure Explained
Image
Hard to picture Survivor without Jeff Probst, isn’t it? For a lot of fans, he’s just as core to the show as the gameplay itself. He’s been there since day one, and the way he commands Tribal Council has become a signature part of the entire experience. But surprisingly, he almost walked away from it all in 2009 – not due to any controversy, but because of burnout.

After years of hosting, the constant pressure took its toll, and he was ready to step away. That’s when CBS stepped in with a solution that worked out for both Probst and the show. Let’s dive deeper!

In this role, Rice is now tasked with overseeing both the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic games which will take place across four nights at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sofi Stadium.

HBO Max’s TV library is stacked -- and still an awesome deal at $10 per month
Image
It’s the one streamer I plan to keep as long as I love great TV.

I’ve been subscribed to just about every streamer for years, and HBO Max has always been one of my favorites. It’s home to some of the best TV shows ever made, across almost every genre. Larry David is basically my personal idol, so the fact that it houses “Curb Your Enthusiasm” — a show that’s shaped my comedic sensibility as much as “Seinfeld” did before it — already makes it special to me.

Now that the service has rebranded back to HBO Max as of July 2025, I thought it was the perfect time to take a closer look at its TV series library, much like I did for Apple TV+ last week. I’ll be breaking down what HBO Max does best, where its lineup feels thin, how often new shows drop, and...

‘Despicable Me’ Writer Ken Daurio to Pen ‘Zita the Spacegirl’ Movie Adaptation (Exclusive)
Image
Ken Daurio, the writer behind such animation franchises as Despicable Me and The Secret Life of Pets, is set to pen the script for a new feature adaptation.

Sycamore Studios has tapped Daurio to write its animated movie Zita the Spacegirl, based on Ben Hatke’s best-selling graphic novel series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. Production is expected to begin in early 2026 on the project that counts Marvel Studios alum Jeremy Latcham (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, The Avengers) as executive producer.

Zita the Spacegirl centers on a girl who finds a strange device that sends her to an alien world, where she must save her friend and possibly the entire galaxy. The film marks the second feature project in the works for Sycamore Studios, a new entertainment company from co-founders Christian McGuigan and Tim Reckart.

“I’m authentic”: Survivor’s Jeff Probst Has One Solid Reason Why Survivor Deserves to Win Emmys 2025
Image
Even after 48-plus seasons, over 700 episodes, and endless fire-making battles, Survivor still hasn’t taken home an Emmy for best competition series. That might sound absurd for a show that practically invented the modern reality genre. But Jeff Probst, the long-time host and executive producer, isn’t bitter.

He just thinks the show is overdue and has one clean reason why it deserves the trophy this time: it’s real. Probst said in a September 2023 GQ interview:

I don’t need anyone to write for me. I just watch and react in real time. You might not like the way I talk or how I comment during a challenge. But I hope that when you watch me, you do believe that I’m authentic, because it is me.

In an era of overproduced reality TV and scripted moments, Survivor still runs on the simple fuel of people and pressure. This...

Why Carrie Coon’s Emmy chances for ‘The White Lotus’ will be helped by ‘The Gilded Age’
Image
Last year, HBO's The Gilded Age made a major breakthrough at the Emmys by scoring six nominations, including Best Drama Series, for its second season. The third season is currently airing and won't be eligible until next year's Emmys. However, its presence could still be helpful for star Carrie Coon as she contends for her supporting role in another prestige HBO drama, The White Lotus.

This marks Coon's third Emmy nomination, after Fargo in 2017 and The Gilded Age in 2024. On the third season of Mike White's anthology series, Coon plays Laurie Duffy, a recently divorced corporate lawyer from New York City, who, along with her two longtime friends (Leslie Bibb and Michelle Monaghan), reunite on a girls' trip to Thailand.

Based on the early predictions for Best Drama Supporting Actress, the third time will be the charm for Coon. And having a juicy, highly visible role in The Gilded Age will only help.

Sydney Sweeney Was Told Not To Audition For Her Most Beloved Role
Image
Even if you haven't seen HBO's "Euphoria" — in which case, I urge you to watch it because it's one of those super-hyped, controversial, and thought-provoking shows that's actually worth every minute if you dig good TV — you've likely heard about its scandals and multiple controversies. Most of those revolve around creator Sam Levinson's allegedly odd behavior, the rampant drug abuse in the series, and the excessive nudity involving mainly Sydney Sweeney's character, Cassie, an insecure and sexy blonde who falls for her best friend's boyfriend.

Undeniably, this is the role that catapulted the young actress into worldwide stardom. She's been in the zeitgeist ever since, appearing in various supporting roles left and right, including in Tarantino's beloved "Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood" and Mike White's extremely popular "The White Lotus," as well as starring in features practically built on her potent screen presence, like "Reality" and "Nocturne.

Who Will Dominate the Emmys 2025? Adolescence, The Bear, The White Lotus, or The Pitt
Image
The Primetime Emmys have released their nominations for the 2025 ceremony, and the nominees are certainly interesting. This year was extremely impressive and fulfilling for television, with some projects continuing their stories and others starting new ones. However, four shows have specifically stood out, and their varying genres are impressive.

While The White Lotus and The Bear are recurring nominees for the Emmy Awards, Adolescence and The Pitt have just been released this year. This does not mean that they are far behind, with both having significant cultural and critical impact. With this, one cannot help but wonder what show will dominate this year.

Carrie Coon Has One Condition To Return For The White Lotus Season 4
Image
Not everyone was happy with the season 3 finale of "The White Lotus," but nobody denied Carrie Coon's performance in that big emotional monologue she gave. There's a reason fans of "The Leftovers" and "The Gilded Age" were so excited to have her on the show, and she more than delivered on our expectations.

Although "The White Lotus" is largely made up of standalone seasons, a small handful of characters have still returned to their roles in fun, surprising ways. It's technically possible that Coon's character, Laurie, might return for season 4, and a lot of fans want it to happen. Does it seem likely that Laurie, someone not as rich as her friend Jacelyn, would be returning to an expensive White Lotus resort so soon? Probably not, but we didn't think Natasha Rothwell's Belinda would be able to do that either, and the writers found a way.

The Era of Emmy Sweepers: How Recent Trends Point to ‘Adolescence,’ ‘Severance’ and ‘The Studio’ Winning Big
Image
Are we in store for more “Emmy sweepers?”

With more than 25,000 voting members, the Television Academy is made up of 31 peer groups, each representing a specific field of expertise — actors, writers, editors, and so on. Of the many categories, only 15 are voted on by the entire membership. These include outstanding comedy, drama, limited or anthology series, television movie, talk series, variety special (live and pre-recorded), short form, hosted nonfiction series, structured and unstructured reality, reality competition, scripted variety and game show.

Unlike the Oscars, which allow all eligible members to vote in the final round, the Emmys restrict both nomination and winner selection to designated peer groups. That exclusivity shapes the voting landscape — and it explains the rise of a modern phenomenon: the Emmy sweep.

Only once before 2020 had a series ever won all seven major categories: HBO’s “Angels in America” in 2004. Then came the Covid-era stunner: Pop TV’s “Schitt’s Creek,...

Mike White Returns Home From Filming 'Survivor 50,' Reunites with 'Enlightened' Co-Creator Laura Dern
Image
Mike White is back home in California after filming the new season of Survivor!

The 55-year-old Emmy-winning star reunited with his Enlightened co-creator and co-star Laura Dern for smoothies and snacks at Sun Life Organics on Thursday afternoon (July 17) in Brentwood, Calif.

For their outing, Laura, 58, wore a black blazer over a gray T-shirt paired with jeans while Mike sported a navy T-shirt and brown shorts.

If you didn’t know, Laura and Mike co-created and co-starred in the comedy-drama series that ran on HBO from 2011 to 2013. For her role on the show, Laura won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy.

Back in May, it was announced that Mike will be returning as a contestant on the upcoming 50th season of Survivor, premiering in the Spring of 2026. Mike was the runner-up on the 37th season of the reality competition show in 2018.

The one place The White Lotus season 4 won't be set
Image
The White Lotus returned with its third season on HBO back in February 2025, and it became an instant hit with fans right away. After that explosive season 3 finale in April, everyone was wondering when they could next expect another luxurious, drama-filled getaway.

Fortunately, HBO renewed the hit comedy-drama series prior to the third season's premiere, confirming that a fourth installment is officially on the way. However, production may take a little longer than usual this time around. Creator Mike White was just recently off competing on Survivor 50 in Fiji, pressing pause on active development.

With production wrapping up on the fiftieth season at the end of June, White is now expected to shift his focus back to The White Lotus season 4. While no official filming schedule has been announced, location scouting is said to be on the horizon, according to HBO boss Casey Bloys.

On July 15, Emmy nominations were announced,...

MCU Fatigue Comes for Yellowstone: Why Taylor Sheridan Shows Had an Abysmal Emmys 2025 Performance
Image
The Emmys 2025 just delivered a brutal reality check to Taylor Sheridan. Not one major nomination for Yellowstone, 1923, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and Landman – nothing. And here’s the thing, it’s not like people aren’t watching these shows. In fact, these shows are crushing ratings as well as the viewership numbers. But we might be watching the MCU fatigue effect play out in Sheridan’s vast neo-western universe.

That’s right, Marvel or the superhero genre in general overloaded fans with back-to-back projects and way too many characters, something that the Yellowstone creator has also been doing the last couple of years. Spinoff after spinoff, and prequel stacked on prequel. Six dramas in one franchise, all running close together, that too with the same tone. So, no matter how big his empire gets, they fail to bag big awards. Let’s see why.

Like the MCU, Taylor Sheridan’s TV...

HBO ‘Not Worried’ About Survivor Delaying The White Lotus Season 3
Image
Mike White surely knows how to turn heads wherever he goes. That’s also the vibe over at HBO, where no one’s losing sleep over The White Lotus hitting pause. Why? Because the show’s creator isn’t off-grid, he’s just in Fiji having the time of his life playing Survivor. And if you’ve observed White, you’d know that he never stops working, and even while on the island, he has The White Lotus at the back of his mind.

The same was revealed by HBO Max boss Casey Bloys in an interview with Variety. He added:

Maybe he’s even observing his fellow contestants and taking notes and getting ideas. So I’m not worried about any sort of delay. Mike always has the show in his head worked out, so I’m excited to talk to him when he’s back about what he’s what he’s thinking.

Carrie Coon shares her one condition to return for The White Lotus season 4
Image
One of the great things about The White Lotus is that characters can come back and leave at any point. Carrie Coon joined The White Lotus in season 3 as Laurie, and since her character made it to the end, she could return. So, what would it take for the award-nominated actress to return for The White Lotus season 4?

Well, it turns out that she only has one condition. Arguably, this condition may not be something that can be met in the fourth season, but maybe there’s something that could happen in the fifth.

Carrie Coon in The White Lotus season 3 on HBO Carrie Coon found Thailand too hot in The White Lotus season 3

It turns out that she wants snow. Filming of The White Lotus season 3 took place in Thailand, during a humid time of year. It was six months in the humidity, and she didn’t really like that part of filming.

‘The White Lotus’ star Jason Isaacs reacts to Emmy nomination and shuts up the haters: ‘Luckily they were outvoted’
Image
It's been a few hours and The White Lotus star Jason Isaacs still hasn’t digested the fact that he’s an Emmy nominee. “It’s bewildering,” Isaacs tells Gold Derby. “It’s slightly surreal and lovely, and lovely that so many other The White Lotus people are in the same boat with me because obviously the common denominator is [creator and director] Mike White’s brilliant writing. It’s why we’ve all been noticed.”

The nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series is a career-first for Isaacs, who plays wealthy Southerner Timothy Ratliff on the HBO hit’s buzzy third season. As a businessman whose shady dealings are catching up to him, Isaacs’ Timothy goes on an turmoil-fueled inner journey and (just barely) makes it out alive. “It’s what you want as an actor,” Isaacs says. “You want a challenge, and I guess if I’m really honest I was scared.

Is Apple TV+ The Best Place to Stream Comedy TV Right Now?
Image
The 2025 Emmy nominations were announced today, and with them came plenty of rage-worthy snubs, The Bear getting comedy noms again and an unsurprising clean sweep from Severance. But while Apple TV+’s crown jewel might be its Sunday-scaries-drama (which picked up 27 nominations), it was far from the only show on the streaming service that received recognition.

The Studio, Apple’s cameo-driven Hollywood comedy, picked up a whopping 23 nominations, tying with Mike White’s murder drama The White Lotus. Meanwhile, Shrinking earned an Outstanding Comedy nomination, a Best Actor in a Comedy nomination for Jason Segel, a Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy nominations for both Harrison Ford and Michael Urie and a Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Jessica Williams.

With two comedy series in the running for Best Comedy series, there’s already an argument to be made to sign up. But while Shrinking and The Studio...

Image
Warner Bros. Discovery’s HBO Max was the most nominated platform at the 2025 Emmy Awards with 142 noms, paced by HBO’s limited series The Penguin (24), The White Lotus Season 3 (23) and The Last of Us Season 2 (16) as well as HBO Max originals Hacks Season 4 (14) and The Pitt Season 1 (13). This marks the most Emmy nominations for HBO in a single year, topping its previous high mark of 137 in 2019, before the launch of streamer HBO Max.

“Ultimately it’s a great validation of all the creative people that we work with,” said Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content. “The Emmys are not the reason why we do the shows we do, but it’s a nice recognition of the hard work that goes into each and every one of these shows.”

He gave shoutout to Wbd CEO David Zaslav who “has always been very, very supportive of everything we’re trying to do,...

Jack Black's Proudest Movie 'School of Rock' is a Roof-Raising Hit on Paramount+
Image
Over his decades-long career, Jack Black has starred in countless beloved movies. He helped to reboot a 90s classic with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, nearly got blown up in Tropic Thunder, made Lucha libre mainstream with Nacho Libre, and even found the Pick of Destiny in the appropriately titled Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. But, among Black's many movies, the actor and musician has one standout favorite. In 2003, Jack Black teamed up with one of the most beloved indie filmmakers still working today to create a comedy so iconic, it has inspired modern-day musicians. That film is now streaming on Paramount+, and it's taking viewers back to school.

School of Rock is streaming on Paramount+, and it's flying up the streaming charts. At the time of publication, the movie is the seventh most popular film on the streamer this week. Jack Black stars as Dewey Finn, a...

HBO Max Boss Teases How ‘The White Lotus’ Creator's 'Survivor' Return Will Impact Season 4
Image
Don't be surprised if Season 4 of The White Lotus suddenly changes locations to Fiji. Even though the next season of the hit series is reportedly moving back to Europe, during a recent interview with Variety, HBO Max CEO and content chairman Casey Bloys revealed that series' creator Mike White's creative process is influenced by the places he visits — and currently the writer is filming the all-star 50th season of reality competition series Survivor in the South Pacific.

During the interview, Bloys commented that chances are that White is "observing his fellow contestants and taking notes and getting ideas" while he films Survivor's landmark season and that the great thing about the showrunner is that he "always has the show in his head worked out." So we already know which direction The White Lotus is taking on Season 4? Bloys elaborates:

"I have a sense of the ideas that he’s playing with,...

Image
The White Lotus has checked into the 2025 Emmys.

On Tuesday, the third season of the HBO series created by Mike White — who also directs, writes and executive produces the show — earned 23 Emmy nominations. It tied with Apple’s The Studio, which Seth Rogen co-created, co-wrote, directed and starred in. The noms fall just slightly behind HBO’s The Penguin, which scored 24, while Apple’s Severance picked up 27 nods, the highest amount for a show this year.

Season three of White Lotus, which centers around guests’ stay at a luxury resort, ran for seven weeks earlier this year, with the season finale airing on Sunday, April 6. This latest season starred Walton Goggins, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Aimee Lou Wood, Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Jason Isaacs, Natasha Rothwell, Sam Nivola, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jon Gries and Sam Rockwell.

Carrie Coon surprised fellow The White Lotus season 3 stars were snubbed
Image
When the 2025 Emmy nominations were announced on Tuesday, July 15, there was a lot to celebrate for HBO's critically acclaimed, fan-favorite anthology series The White Lotus. Once again, the series proved its awards prowess by landing an astonishing and deserved 23 nominations, which tied the series for the third most-nominated series alongside Apple TV+'s freshman comedy The Studio.

Among The White Lotus season 3's 23 nominations was the expected but no less warranted Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series nomination for Carrie Coon. In the category, she was joined by fellow season 3 stars Parker Posey, Natasha Rothwell, and Aimee Lou Wood, though Coon's scene partners Michelle Monaghan and Leslie Bibb didn't receive nominations.

Touting 142 Emmy Noms, Casey Bloys Talks ‘Penguin’ and ‘White Lotus’ Futures, ‘Duster’ Demise, HBO Max Re-Re-Brand
Image
The Primetime Emmy nominations arms race shifted back in HBO and HBO Max’s favor on Tuesday morning, with the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned platform’s historically dominant slate commanding 142 nominations across 23 originals.

With particularly strong showings for limited series The Penguin (24), drama The White Lotus (23) and comedy Hacks (14), HBO and HBO Max content chairman and CEO Casey Bloys hopped on the phone to dig into some of the surprises (two nominations for the outgoing Somebody Somewhere), smaller showings (House of the Dragon) and offer up some updates on a slew of nominated originals (The Penguin, The White Lotus, The Pitt) and 2025 offerings like the new season of The Gilded Age and the upcoming The Chair Company. He also had a very humble response to the suggestion of playing himself in a future season of Apple TV+’s The Studio.

The Penguin made a remarkably strong showing in the nominations.

'The White Lotus' Season 4 Gets a Status Update: Where Mike White Is In the Process & More!
Image
We finally have a bit of an update on The White Lotus season four!

HBO exec Casey Bloys shared where Mike White is at in the process.

The White Lotus notoriously takes a long time to film. The process is said to take seven months just to film, and that doesn’t include pre-production or post-production time.

Casey was asked where Mike is in the season four process, to which he told The Wrap, “Mike pitched a little — I know the general outline of what Season 4 is going to be. He’s going to be scouting, seeing what location he gets inspired by, and then giving us more of an update of what he’s thinking, but it’s percolating in his head.”

Season three wrapped up earlier this year, and Mike went on to film Survivor 50 this summer. So, it looks like the work on season four is just getting going!

HBO Max Boss Casey Bloys on ‘The Penguin’ Season 2, What’s Next for ‘The Last of Us’ and If He’d Ride a Plane Piloted By Nathan Fielder
Image
It was quite a fine morning for Casey Bloys, the HBO and Max content chairman/CEO who saw his combined platform pull off 142 Emmy nominations — a new best for the company. Bloys said he had been prepped by his head of awards, Austin O’Malia, for several different outcomes, “and he was feeling good. So if he feels good, I feel good.”

And that bore itself out with 24 nominations for “The Penguin” (the most of any limited/anthology series this year), 23 nods for “The White Lotus,” 16 for “The Last of Us,” 14 for “Hacks” and 13 for “The Pitt.”

“When I think about the team at HBO and all the creatives that choose to work with us, I’m thrilled with the recognition that they get,” Bloys said. “But I’m also really happy for the team internally. When you think about Nancy Abraham and Lisa Heller in documentaries, Nina Rosenstein in late night and talk,...

Breaking down the 2025 Emmy nominations: ‘Severance’ is boss, ‘The Penguin’ flies, and everything else we learned
Image
The announcement of the 77th Emmy Award nominations had everything we've come to expect. Snubs! Surprises! A cavalcade of guest stars from The Studio!

But, as any awards obsessive knows, while the reveal of nods may be the end of one journey, it's the start of another.

We here at Gold Derby have been following plot threads throughout the FYC season, and now with nominations in hand, the storylines for the Emmy Awards this September are juicer than ever.

Praise Kier! Severance gets a raise

The first season of Apple TV+'s work horror series certainly made a splash among viewers and the Television Academy. The freshman run scored 14 nominations, but some rough timing with two strikes in 2023 delayed Season 2. The three-year wait, however, allowed new viewers to find the show, just in time for a sophomore set of episodes that dove deeper and delivered on the promise of Season...

‘The Bear’ and ‘The White Lotus’ Lead 2025 Emmys Race as Netflix and Apple Dominate
Image
The nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards are finally out, and it’s shaping up to be one of the toughest races in recent years. ‘The Last of Us’ earns 16 Emmy nominations — but has 3 shocking snubs
Image
Emmy voters are still infected with The Last of Us, rewarding the zombified series with 16 nominations on Tuesday, including Best Drama Series. Notably, Season 2 of HBO's adaptation of the popular video-game series didn't get everything for which it submitted, and there are three notable snubs that are causing an uproar on social media: supporting actress Isabela Merced, and the standout episode "Through The Valley" in both directing and writing.

Here are the categories The Last of Us got into — and missed.

Best Drama Series: Nominated

It was never a question whether the fungal apocalypse drama would receive a series bid, since Season 1 scored 24 nominations and won eight trophies in 2023. The Last of Us ended up placing fourth in Gold Derby's Best Drama Series predictions by the time the nominations were announced. It finds itself nominated alongside Andor, The Diplomat, Paradise, The Pitt, Severance, Slow Horses, and The White Lotus.

Carrie Coon Talks Emmy Nomination, Future Of ‘The Gilded Age’ & Whether She’d Return For ‘The White Lotus’ Season 4
Image
How’s Carrie Coon celebrating her third Emmy nomination — this time for her turn in Season 3 of Mike White’s The White Lotus — you ask?

“I’m working, which, again, is the best way to celebrate,” she told Deadline in an interview this morning. “I’m in Vancouver doing an independent film. I’m here with my whole family, so it’s very chaotic. The days are long, and it’s the kind of good, hard, fulfilling work I’ve been lucky to do. I’m very fortunate to be working right now.”

The actress — who previously scored noms for FX’s Fargo and HBO Max’s The Gilded Age, which is currently halfway through airing its third season — is in production for Harmonia, Guy Nattiv’s thriller that also stars Odessa Young, Lily James and Bella Ramsey, an HBO compatriot of Coon’s who scored a historic second Emmy...

Emmy Nominations Analysis: ‘Severance’ and ‘The Studio’ Dominate, but Does That Make Them Frontrunners?
Image
“Severance” and “The Studio” got more Emmy nominations than anybody expected, “The White Lotus” didn’t receive quite as many acting noms as usual and fewer new shows made it into the top Emmy categories than at any time in the last five years.

Those were some of the lessons from Tuesday’s announcement of the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations, which were announced by Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song on Tuesday morning in North Hollywood. With the number of submissions declining for the second consecutive year, many major categories had fewer nominees than usual, but that didn’t stop voters from dropping in a handful of surprises and from showing just how much they loved the second season of “Severance,” the runaway leader in nominations with 27, three more than last year’s big winner, “Shōgun,” received on its way to breaking the Emmy record for wins in a single year.

‘The White Lotus’ scores 23 nominations, but there are lots of snubs
Image
It’s clear Emmy voters remain fans of the HBO drama, which saw another impressive showing in this year’s nominations. Eight of the show's stars received nominations as did creator Mike White.

Best Drama Series: Nominated

The HBO series, which swept 10 Emmys in its first season and picked up five more in Season 2, has once again been nominated for Best Drama Series. At the time of the nominations, it was ranked third on Gold Derby’s odds list, behind Severance and The Pitt. It will go up against Andor, The Diplomat, The Last of Us, Paradise, The Pitt, Severance and Slow Horses.

Best Drama Supporting Actor: Nominated

The show had nine contenders in the supporting actor category, but only three earned nominations: Walton Goggins as Rick, Jason Isaacs as Timothy Ratliff, and Sam Rockwell as Frank. These three consistently ranked among Gold Derby’s top five contenders, with Goggins leading the pack.

‘The White Lotus’ Racks Up 23 Emmy Noms, With First-Time Nominees Scott Glenn, Jason Isaacs & Aimee Lou Wood
Image
While The White Lotus didn’t sweep the Supporting Actor/Actresses in a Drama Series category, as was at times predicted, the HBO powerhouse did match its Season 2 Emmy nomination tally with 23 this year, bringing its to-date total to 66 with 15 overall wins — with more potentially in store at the ceremony to be held Sept. 14.

Once again nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, performers Jason Isaacs, Scott Glenn and Aimee Lou Wood scored their first-ever Emmy nominations this year.

For Supporting Actress in a Drama, Carrie Coon, Parker Posey and Natasha Rothwell were also honored, with the latter seeing a repeat nomination for her role as Belinda, which she originated back in Season 1. They, along with Wood, face one performer each from Paradise, The Pitt and Severance (Patricia Arquette).

In the Supporting Actor category, the noms...
