Disney Posts Video of Kermit to Hype Up Muppet Coaster and it Backfired
Image
Muppets Courtyard is closing after today. Muppet Vision 3D and Pizzerizzo will shut down after hours and walls will start to go up to bring the new Monsters Inc. area to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Ahead of the impending closure Disney decided to put up a video with an odd sounding Kermit the Frog to celebrate the Muppets move to Sunset Boulevard and the Rock’n’Roller Coaster.

It did not go over well.

Hi Ho everyone! @TheMuppets are packing up and moving to Sunset Blvd for their first ever coaster! Grab your guitar (or banjo), because Rock ’N’ Roller Coaster Starring @TheMuppets speeds into Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2026! pic.twitter.com/ldltI3dGmi

— Walt Disney World (@WaltDisneyWorld) June 7, 2025

Muppets fans were very vocal about their displeasure. Many also asked for Muppet Vision to be brought back to Hollywood Studios or Disneyland.

Memories of Muppet Vision 3D: The Man Behind Rizzo the Rat Shares His Memories of Making a Disney World Classic Attraction
Image
Friends of Kermit and Miss Piggy are having a tough month. On June 7th, the film-attraction Muppet Vision 3D — Jim Henson’s final project before his death — will run for the last time at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. Muppet fans, who have expressed their dismay and sadness at the idea for months, now have a set date for the destruction of a beloved historical Muppet attraction.

Many fans have also taken issue with how Disney is handling the dismantling of Muppet Vision 3D: that is, without any fanfare and only vague references to somehow “preserving” the film. Disney representatives have also declined any interviews with current Muppet performers.

However, Steve Whitmire, the former Muppet performer who played Bean Bunny, Rizzo the Rat and Waldo C. Graphic in the attraction (he also inherited Kermit the Frog after Henson’s passing), was happy to take a walk down memory lane with me.

The 15 Best Movies Like Sing 2
Image
Along with the first movie in the animated franchise, there are plenty of movies like Sing 2 that capture the same magic that makes the family-friendly sequel such a gem. Much like its predecessor, Sing 2 is a jukebox musical and features a satirical look at the entertainment industry. This time around, Buster Moon and his friends are organizing another big show to impress a media mogul, which also includes convincing a reclusive rock star to come out of retirement and join them on stage.

The movie is an entertaining bit of fun for all ages, continuing the winning combination of popular music and adorable animal characters. While it has its own charm, there are some other great movies that share similarities fans may find interesting. Whether it is the celebration of underdogs showcasing their talents, the excitement of putting on a big show, or other animated movies with a musical energy,...

A Crying Jason Segel Weirded Out the Muppet Performers
Image
While Muppet fans are currently mad as Hell at Disney for scrapping the beloved Muppet Vision 3D theme park attraction, there was once a time when the Mouse House put a fair bit of attention and effort into celebrating the iconic felt characters they now own.

Most notably in 2011, the studio released The Muppets, a big-screen reboot that found Kermit, Fozzie, Gonzo and the gang (plus some human beings) teaming up to save Muppet Studios from an evil oil tycoon. It remains to be seen whether or not we’ll get a sequel in which the Muppets put on a big show to save their offices from the clutches of John Mayer and McG.

One of the film’s human cast members was Freaks and Geeks star Jason Segel, who also co-wrote the screenplay with frequent collaborator Nicholas Stoller. Segel was already a massive Muppet fan, as evidenced by the...

The series will take place from October 4 to November 30.

“Frank Oz has been a revered and adored artist for generations, yet I’d argue he’s under-appreciated for his filmmaking, which he’s dedicated the past 40 years to,” curator of film Eric Hynes said.

“From the beginning he defied expectations, starting with his now-classic homage to the Hollywood studio musical and B-movie creature feature, ‘Little Shop of Horrors,’ and continuing through...

New Muppets Show Gets Best Rotten Tomatoes Score For Franchise Since 2014

The Muppets Mayhem has scored a Rotten Tomatoes rating higher than any Muppets project in nearly a decade. The streaming series, which launched on Disney+ on May 10, follows the adventures of the Muppet band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, whose lineup includes the beatific Dr. Teeth, the far-out hippie Janis, the Beatles-esque Floyd Pepper, the spacy Zoot, and the excitable Animal. The Muppets Mayhem is jam-packed with cameos from within and without the music world, including Kesha, Kevin Smith, Lil Nas X, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Morgan Freeman, and deadmau5.

Steve Whitmire Had Real Fear Taking Over Kermit For The Muppets Christmas Carol
Image
We all remember the time in our childhood when our parents/guardians sat us down and explained to us one of the hard truths of life: voice actors don't live forever. And we cried, and started pleading with them, asking "what about Bugs Bunny? He's had a consistent voice for over a hundred years!" To which they replied, "no he hasn't." And with tears in our eyes, we ran to our rooms, saving our caretakers from having to confront their own mortality.

When the voice actor of an iconic character passes away, the question of how to proceed with that character inevitably arises. For some, like Edna Krabappel of "The Simpsons," the character was respectfully retired after voice actor Marcia Wallace died. But for other characters, especially ones that have existed for decades and decades, a replacement must be found. This was the case with Minnie Mouse, whose longtime voice actor,...

How to Watch The Muppet Christmas Carol
Image
On December 11th, the festive favorite The Muppet Christmas Carol celebrated its 30th birthday. The Muppet Christmas Carol was the first of the Muppet movies to be made without Muppet creator Jim Henson, who had passed away two years earlier at the age of 52 from pneumonia. Instead, the movie was directed by Henson's son and the current chair of the Jim Henson Company Brian Henson. The movie was also the first time Kermit the Frog had been voiced by anyone but Jim Henson, as Henson Company veteran Steve Whitmire stepped up to the plate to voice the beloved amphibian.

Michael Caine Never Knew He Could Sing Until The Muppet Christmas Carol
Image
"A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens was embraced by the British public from the moment it first dropped in 1843; it was an instant bestseller and the work has never been out of print since (via ThoughtCo). Almost 60 years later, the festive tale took a leap to the new-fangled medium of cinema with "Scrooge, or Marley's Ghost" in 1901. That title hinted at a vision of Film Adaptations Yet to Come; Scrooge was the star of the show and would become a juicy role for dozens of famous actors over the next 120 years.

Since Daniel Smith donned Scrooge's nightcap in that pioneering first adaptation, George C. Scott, Albert Finney, Reginald Owen, Patrick Stewart, and Henry Winkler have all given their distinctive take on the role, while Alastair Sim remains many people's definitive version of the character. Bill Murray put a modern spin on the tale in "Scrooged," while in animation we've had Mr. Magoo,...

‘You’ll never see Michael Caine blink’: An oral history of The Muppet Christmas Carol at 30
Image
There are Christmas movies, then there’s The Muppet Christmas Carol. In the years since its arrival in 1992, this surprisingly dedicated adaptation of Charles Dickens’ defining redemption story has emerged as a modern classic, dripping with nostalgia and indelibly linked to the childhood of a generation thanks to countless festive repeats. Full of memorable moments, beloved songs and that warm, fuzzy, festive feeling – for many, it’s just not Christmas until you’ve seen a frog in a top hat teach Michael Caine’s Scrooge the importance of empathy.

But beneath Kermit’s compassion and Ebeneezer’s humbugs lies an equally restorative tale of how Christmas saved the Muppets during their darkest hour. Reeling from the sudden death of Jim Henson, the company’s troupe of performers and its new de facto leader, Jim’s son Brian Henson, were left with a looming question: can this gang of frogs, bears,...

Why Gonzo Is The Lead In Muppet Christmas Carol Instead Of Kermit
Image
The reason Gonzo is front and center in The Muppet Christmas Carol instead of Kermit has finally been explained. The 1992 film, which was the fourth theatrical venture for The Muppets, and the first since 1984's The Muppets Take Manhattan, was helmed by Brian Henson, the son of Muppet creator Jim Henson. It starred Michael Caine as Charles Dickens' iconic miserly protagonist Ebeneezer Scrooge opposite a cast of Muppets including Kermit as Bob Cratchit and Gonzo as the narrator, Charles Dickens.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Muppet Christmas Carol, Henson sat down with Entertainment Weekly for an interview about the holiday classic, during which he revealed why Kermit didn't take center stage in the film. He revealed that the idea for Gonzo to narrate the film came from screenwriter Jerry Juhl, and they seized on the idea because it presented them with the opportunity to spend more time making sure they got Kermit right,...

Michael Caine Had Already Worked With Miss Piggy Before The Muppet Christmas Carol
Image
There are few things in this world that wouldn't become more enjoyable with the addition of the Muppets. Are you suffering through the child's birthday party you're attending? Well, here come the Muppets to liven things up! Is the anti-smoking PSA you're watching a bit depressing? Send in the Muppets! Divorce proceedings got you down? It's much more fun when you discover that The Great Gonzo is the judge!

This universal rule is why "The Muppet Christmas Carol" is so great. The movie is wonderful, however, because it also has Michael Caine playing the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. The film was the directorial debut of Brian Henson — the son of the legendary puppeteer, Jim Henson — and was greatly enhanced by the clash in styles of two legendary performers: Michael Caine and Kermit the Frog. While Kermit and his Muppet co-workers are known for their madcap antics, Caine went into the film with a different mindset.

The Muppet Christmas Carol Almost Featured A Puppet Version Of Charles Dickens
Image
When Muppets creator Jim Henson died in 1990, the future of the Muppets franchise felt up in the air to its fans. At the time, Disney had already been in negotiations to purchase the Muppets, but Henson was on record with his refusal. Disney, still with a foot in the door, co-financed two Muppet feature films in the 1990s -- "The Muppet Christmas Carol" and "Muppet Treasure Island," both directed by Henson's son Brian -- which proved to audiences that the Muppets were capable of living on. Indeed, the two films provided a fascinating new premise for the Muppets: they would be stock players in adaptations of classic literature. Sadly, this tack did not play itself out, and after the not-very-good, straight-to-video "The Muppets' Wizard of Oz," that angle was abandoned.

Come now, Disney, "Muppet Midsummer Night's Dream," "Muppet Dracula," and "Muppet Moby-Dick" await.

"The Muppet Christmas Carol" (1992) is both one...

The Muppet Show is currently streaming on Disney+ with an offensive content disclaimer, warning viewers of potentially offensive material. ‘Muppets Now’: Together Again, With a Touch of Amnesia

The Muppets — specifically, the comedy-variety troupe featuring Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo the Great, et. al. — are in their sixth decade of existence, but they have never been more perfectly deployed than in their first project together, the Seventies syndicated hit The Muppet Show. A faux variety series, each episode was a mix of two kinds of segments. The first were vaudeville-style sketches from the show-within-a-show, where the Muppets sang, danced, told corny jokes, and appeared in shows-within-the-show-within-the-show like Pigs in Space and Veterinarian’s Hospital. New Muppets Now Trailer Arrives, and Fans Aren't So Sure About Kermit's Voice
Image
Kermit the Frog and all of his Muppet buddies are getting the gang back together for the all-new Disney Plus series Muppets Now but many longtime fans seem to be having very mixed thoughts on Kermit's new voice. Originally, Kermit was voiced by the legendary Jim Henson from the puppet's inception in 1955 until Henson's death in 1990. The voice role then went to Steve Whitmire, who would stick around as the new Kermit for the next 26 years. While his Kermit voice wasn't identical to Henson's, it was certainly passable enough to work, and Muppets fans have since gotten used to Whitmire's voice.

For better or for worse, Whitmire had a falling out with the Muppets team in 2016, leading to his dismissal as the official voice of Kermit the Frog. In later interviews, Whitmire would claim that he was fired due to creative disagreements over Kermit's characterization and issues with his labor union negotiations.

Critics Pick Their Favorite Puppet TV Characters of All Time
Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday.

This week’s question: What’s your favorite puppet character on TV of all time? Why?

Allison Keene (@KeeneTV), Paste Magazine

Given my lifelong love of Henson productions, most especially the Muppets (and all related movies), it’s no surprise that I’ve become fully obsessed with “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.” But to pick a favorite puppet? It’s nearly impossible. I have to pick two. Ok, three. It’s important that they’re all represented!

For one: Deet, a Gelfling. The heart and soul of the series, so sweet, so cute. One of the series’ writers revealed recently that Deet is based off of the way his girlfriend talks about horses. It fits; Deet is pure goodness and joy, but she’s also strong and brave. Two: Hup, the...

Frank Oz Says That Disney Just Doesn't Get The Muppets - "They Don’t Get the True Rebellion"
Back in 2004, Disney bought the rights to The Muppets from the Jim Henson Company and since then we've seen a couple of films and an attempt at a TV series that didn't work out very well. It was also recently announced that they were going to give it another try and develop a new series for their streaming service and they have a Muppet Babies animated series on the way.

Now, I love The Muppets, but I haven't really been that impressed with what they've done with the property so far. I know a lot of fans feel the same way. It just doesn't have the same kind of magic that it used to have. Legendary Muppets performer Frank Oz recently opened up about this and in his comments, he says that Disney just doesn't get it.

Frank Oz Thinks Disney Is Ruining The Muppets: They Don't Get It
Frank Oz at an event for The Score (2001)
Longtime Jim Henson collaborator Frank Oz says that Disney just "does not get The Muppets". The iconic Oz voiced Bert, Miss Piggy, Grover, Animal, and Sam Eagle for The Muppets from 1963 to 2004, which would lead one to believe that he knows a thing or two about how Jim Henson envisioned the characters and their rebellious spirit. The Muppets were taken over by Disney in 2004 and many believe that since then, the true spirit of what Henson always had in mind vanished from the beloved characters.

In a new interview, Frank Oz goes out of his way to say that he's not "knocking" Disney and adds that he's never been asked for any input regarding The Muppets in any way. He clearly doesn't have a problem with Disney since he reprised his role of Yoda for The Last Jedi. But when it comes to The Muppets, something has been missing since Disney took control.

Jim Henson at an event for The 41st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards (1989)
‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ Turns 25! Looking Back on Making the Holiday Classic
Jim Henson at an event for The 41st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards (1989)
“All my friends have worked with the Muppets. Everybody I know has done a thing with the Muppets and I always felt a little bit left out,” Michael Caine told Et in 1992 on the set of The Muppet Christmas Carol, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. “But they only did half-hour television shows and I got to do a two-hour movie, so it's great.”

While Caine donned the trademark robes and night cap to portray Ebenezer Scrooge, the reimagining of the Charles Dickens classic also featured Kermit as Bob Cratchit, Fozzie as Mr. Fozziewig (modified from Fezziwig), Miss Piggy as Mrs. Cratchit and Gonzo as Dickens, who hilariously narrates the story with Rizzo the Rat. Despite the recognizable names and faces, some voices of the characters would sound a little different to Muppet fans.

Two years prior, at the happiest place on Earth, no less, there was excitement for a new partnership and the creative...

An A-z of Festive Film
If you thought you’d seen the last of Roobla’s alphabetical rundowns with our Halloween effort, think again. With Christmas drawing ever closer, we couldn’t let the big one pass without the A-Z film treatment, so here we go…

A is for Alastair Sim. His performance in the 1951 version of A Christmas Carol still remains the definitive portrayal of Ebenezer Scrooge.

B is for Bruce Willis. You can even get Die Hard festive jumpers now – ho-ho-ho.

C is for Channel 5. This lot love to start early with the Yuletide flicks; in fact I’m sure I saw one during August Bank Holiday.

D is for Disney. From Snow White to Frozen, they’ve made family entertainment into an art form, especially at this time of year..

E is for elves. Played by Dudley Moore and Will Ferrell amongst others, they’ve served Santa well over the years.

The Muppet Christmas Carol review – Michael Caine shows spirit in magical extravaganza
Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy are joined by Caine as a hilarious Scrooge in this irresistibly sweet musical adaptation of Dickens’ festive tale

There may be some people who can watch Kermit the Frog’s nephew Robin give his heart-wrenching performance as Tiny Tim in The Muppet Christmas Carol without choking up. I am not among them.

When Dickens was writing A Christmas Carol in 1843, he was said to have taken long night walks through London in a state of passionate euphoria, covering 10 or 15 miles at a time, dreaming his masterpiece into existence. I like to think if in the course of these walks some spirit could have taken him into the future to show him the adaptations to come, this is the one he would have especially favoured. Only an obtuse snob would not see the sweetness and good-nature of The Muppet Christmas Carol from 1992 and now on rerelease,...

"It's a lot of board games, classic movies. We always screen The Muppet Christmas Carol every Christmas Eve. For us, it's a special time of year."

Their Christmas Eve screening may soon become a double feature, as the actor's new movie, The Man Who Invented Christmas, out Nov. 22, makes a fitting follow-up to Kermit the Frog's starring role as Bob Cratchit, with The Great Gonzo as Charles Dickens. In it, Stevens plays Dickens as he sets out to write a Christmas book on a six-week deadline and dreams up his unexpectedly...

Meet the New Kermit the Frog in Latest Muppets Video
Jim Henson at an event for The 41st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards (1989)
It is the end of one era and the beginning of another for The Muppets. It was recently revealed that after more than three decades, Steve Whitmire had been fired as Kermit the Frog. He was the man who took over the role following Jim Henson's death, so it is a very big deal that someone else is now going to take on the role. That man is Matt Vogel and his very first performance as Kermit the Frog has just been released online.

Matt Vogel makes his debut as Kermit the Frog on the latest Muppet Thought of the Week video, which was released on The Muppets YouTube channel. The video is quite brief, but it does give us a sense of what we can expect from the new Kermit the Frog. The video was supposed to be released a few weeks ago, but following the news of Steve Whitmire's firing,...

Kermit The Frog's New Voice Sounds a Lot Like Kermit The Frog! You Can Listen to it Now
"Dreams are how we figure out where we want to go. Life is how we get there. I’m headed this way."

As you may have already heard, last month longtime Kermit the Frog performer Steve Whitmire was fired by Disney. He has been the man behind Kermit for almost 30 years, ever since Jim Henson passed away in 1990. But, due to a series of events he was fired over “unacceptable business conduct.”

Disney has since replaced Whitmire with Matt Vogel and he recently made first public debut as the classic character. A clip has surfaced online featuring Vogel voicing Kermit and you know what? He sounds a lot like Kermit the Frog! I doubt anyone is going to complain. There are some very subtle differences, but most people probably won't notice. It seems like Disney got the perfect guy to take on the character. You can check out the clip below.

Ex-Kermit Actor: My Firing Is ‘the Worst Thing That Could Happen to This Character’
Steve Whitmire
Steve Whitmire continues to weigh in on getting fired by Disney as the voice of Kermit the Frog after 27 years. Whitmire, who announced earlier this month that Muppets Studio replaced him by Matt Vogel, told CNN on Tuesday that he felt “absolute shock” when he learned that he was losing his job. “It was exactly the same feeling as the moment I was told Jim had died,” Whitmire said. “It was the worst thing that could happen to this character. It’s not the worst thing that could happen to me, although it’s pretty bad.” Also Read: Fired Kermit.

Ousted Kermit the Frog Actor Steve Whitmire Fears Disney Could 'Destroy' Iconic Character
Jim Henson at an event for The 41st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards (1989)
Steve Whitmire voiced Kermit the Frog for 27 years — and now, he’s concerned about the future of the beloved green Muppet.

Whitmire, 57, was let go by Disney in October due to what officials claimed was “unacceptable business conduct.” Family members of the late Muppets creator Jim Henson have also spoken out about the firing, with Jim’s son Brian telling The Hollywood Reporter that Whitmire used his status as the famous frog to make “outrageous demands” and often “played brinkmanship,” which he was told to stop as far back as the mid-1990s.

Whitmire has maintained he was fired over...

Did Kermit Actor Turn the Frog Into a 'Depressed Victim'?
2017-07-20T13:06:36-07:00Did Kermit Actor Turn the Frog Into a 'Depressed Victim'?

Kermit has had a frog in his throat since the beloved Muppet’s voice actor, Steve Whitmire, was fired — and he claims it was without warning.

Whitmire, 57, was the only voice of Kermit in the last 27 years, following Jim Henson’s death, but his performance wasn’t well-received by Henson’s family.

“Steve is very difficult to work with and it’s been many years of being difficult, particularly for the producers,” Henson’s daughter, Cheryl, fumed to NBC’s “Today” show on Thursday. “He’s not Kermit. He’s a performer, who was hired to do Kermit. There’s a difference.”

Cheryl had previously complained that Whitmire’s “performance of Kermit has strayed far away from my father’s good-hearted, compassionate leader of the Muppets … Steve performed Kermit as a bitter, angry,...

Steve Whitmire
Steve Whitmire, who was the Muppeteer for Kermit the Frog for 27 years, said it was shocking when he was told he was fired. “It felt like it was about five minutes of silence… and I just immediately tried to get answers,” he said. The answer, according to a statement issued by the Muppets studio, said that Whitmire was difficult to work with and had failed to address feedback over the years in regards to the character. “We raised concerns about Steve’s repeated unacceptable business conduct over a period of many years and he consistently failed to address the feedback,...
