‘The Bear’ & ‘Shōgun’ Win Big At 76th Annual Emmy Awards
Image
On Sunday, the biggest names in television gathered at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles for the 76th annual Emmy Awards.

The 2023 Emmy Awards were pushed from their usual September date to January 2024 due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes, making Sunday’s Emmys the second of this calendar year. Any series or made-for-tv film entries at these awards must have been released between June 1, 2023, and May 31, 2024.

The ceremony was hosted by father and son Eugene and Dan Levy, known for their Emmy-winning comedy series Schitt’s Creek.

“The difference between Psn & Xbox…”: Xbox Fanboys Clutch at Straws with Ridiculous Comparison Over the Two Consoles in Pointless Demonstration of ‘Superiority’
Image
When PS5 was announced it was believed that would outshine Xbox in every aspect, however, recent statistics paint a different picture. The console wars have taken a new turn as Xbox fanboys hang on the user numbers pointing out the superiority of the console.

A recent tweet has re-ignited the debate by comparing the active users of PlayStation Network (Psn) and Xbox, with the latter dominating the pool with 500 million users against Psn’s 123 million. Nevertheless, numbers do not reveal the full picture as yet again this kind of superiority is pointless.

Console Wars Rage On As Fans Debate User Numbers

The intense battle over active users between Psn and Xbox is always on. According to reports, Psn had the highest number of 123 million in December 2023, while Xbox supporters celebrate a staggering number of 500 million.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Launches Line of Coffee Blends
Image
Ghostbusters fans can now get their caffeine fix from specially blended ecto-brews. Pop Culture Coffee collaborates with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire to launch new gourmet coffee flavors, inspired by Slimer and the Mini Pufts marshmallows.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire gets its own line of Pop Culture Coffee blends inspired by two of the film's most adored (and despised) characters, Mini-Puft Marshmallow Men and Slimer. The mouthwatering coffee products are now available at the Pop Culture Coffee store for a limited time, after which these will likely become coveted collectibles. Ghostbuster fans and film buffs will likely share the same dilemma when their preordered coffee arrives next month, though, as they'll have to decide whether to consume the coffee or consider its potential resale value. So far, there are two flavors of ground coffee to collect, both weighing 340 grams and priced at $17.99; a cold brew variant is also available for $10.99, with two additional flavors soon to follow.

Cool Stuff: Pop Culture Coffee Is Serving Up Ghostbusters Brews Like Ecto-Espresso
Image
When you're working for the Ghostbusters, you never know when you're going to get the call to track down a non-terminal repeating phantasm or a Class-5 full-roaming vapor. It could be just as you're sitting down to a nice takeout dinner, or in the middle of the night while you're dreaming about a strangely sexual ghost encounter. Either way, you're gonna want to make sure you have the energy to bust ghosts. Thankfully, the folks at Pop Culture Coffee have you covered, especially if you're a "Ghostbusters" fan.

Right now, Pop Culture Coffee has two coffee flavors inspired by "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" (read our review). First, there's the Ecto-Espresso, which has a chocolate caramel flavor, and is available in both ground coffee and cold brew cans. But that's not all, because taking a cue from those mischievous and twisted little Mini-Pufts, there's also a Puftmello flavor that comes with a taste of marshmallow.

Image
Maisie Williams is weighing in on the “Game of Thrones” final season discourse.

On a Twitch stream with her brother James Williams, the Arya Stark actor said she recently rewatched “Game of Thrones” and admitted, “It definitely fell off at the end.”

She added that the HBO series “started really strong.”

“It kinda popped off,” Maisie said. “For the longest time… I could never see it from the outside. So I could never say that and actually understand it. For the first time, it feels good to be proud of it. It was 10 years of my life.”

Abbott Elementary Season 2 Episode 1 Review: Development Day
Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lisa Ann Walter, William Stanford Davis, Tyler James Williams, Chris Perfetti, Quinta Brunson, and Janelle James in Abbott Elementary (2021)
This Abbott Elementary review contains spoilers.

Abbott Elementary Season 2 Episode 1

Abbott Elementary got renewed for a second season shortly before its 13-episode first season even concluded. That’s because the show takes a severely misunderstood workplace setting, public schools, and breathes new life into it for families all over America. Unless you’re in education yourself, it’s hard to picture what teachers and administrators go through each day to give their best efforts and prepare students for their lives in and out of the classroom. Think of the show as a peak behind the curtains, a way for parents to gain a little more empathy for the adults who dedicate so much of their lives to a selfless career.

For anyone wondering whether the sitcom hits the same notes in its second time at bat, the answer is a resounding yes. Quinta Brunson’s heartfelt mockumentary is back and just as optimistic as ever,...

Frightfest 2019: ‘Eat Brains Love’ Review
Stars: Jake Cannavale, Angelique Rivera, Sarah Yarkin, Jim Titus, Ty Headlee, Kristin Daniel, Patrick Fabian | Written by Mike Herro, David Strauss | Directed by Rodman Flender

Back in 1999 I fell in love with the teen horror comedy Idle Hands, with its mix of gore, laughs and a teen cast that felt totally beliveable and altogether likeable. Now, some ten years later, that films director returns with Eat Brains Love, based on the young adult novel of the same name by Jeff Hart, which once again captures that exact blend of horror and comedy to perfection.

High schooler Jake Stephens longs for the unreachable Amanda Blake (Angelique Rivera), who’s dating Chazz (Ty Headlee) the head jock. So how can Jake woo Amanda away from Chazz who, in typical high-school movie fashion, is the schools resident meat-head bully. Well how about he and Amanda get infected by a sexually transmitted zombie virus,...

Supergirl Scoop: Jimmy Olsen to Be Played by Desperate Housewives Alum
David Harewood, Chyler Leigh, Jesse Rath, Azie Tesfai, Melissa Benoist, Katie McGrath, and Nicole Maines in Supergirl (2015)
Extra, extra, read all about it: CBS’ Supergirl has snapped up Desperate Housewives vet Mehcad Brooks to play the classic role of shutterbug Jimmy Olsen, TVLine has learned.

Supergirl‘s version of Jimmy is described as a smart, worldly photographer for CatCo, the media company where Kara — played by Glee‘s Melissa Benoist — works. He has recently been living and working in National City, though the reason is still a secret, and his salt-of-the-earth nature quickly piques Kara’s interest.

Brooks’ TV resume also includes stints on Necessary Roughness, True Blood and The Game.

Other Supergirl roles still to be...

Beauty and the Beast Review: Liberated
"Trapped" wasn't one of the better episodes of the season, but we did learn something big about Vincent's time in Afghanistan. Trying to save her when she was murdered wasn't the first time he came to her defense.

Evan did wonder what Cat saw in the tunnel! I'm so glad they didn't just let that issue ride. He's far to smart for that.  Was it wrong that I felt bad Cat used him for J.T. to get into his office to Evan's equipment to make the serum? Because I did. Evan is a really good guy and I don't like to see him used, even when it's for a good purpose.

After what happened to him and given his scientific nature, it's entirely possible he might be interested in what Vincent is, not turn him in and even offer his services to help figure out what to do with him.

'Mad Men' in Hawaii: what can we expect? Ask 'Full House,' 'Modern Family,' 'Saved By the Bell...'
Mad Men (2007)
We get it, Matthew Weiner: You really love the ’80s and ’90s. Last season, it became clear that Mad Men’s showrunner has a penchant for the alumni of shows like The Secret World of Alex Mack and Clarissa Explains It All. And today, we learned that Weiner plans to kick off season 6 with a storyline familiar to anyone who once worshiped at the altars of Tgif and Nick at Nite: the Hawaiian vacation.

So what should Don and Megan Draper expect to do and see as they soak up the sun in Maui? Judging from the family sitcoms...

New Key Art and Another Preview of The CW's Beauty and the Beast
We're still on the fence about giving full coverage to The CW's upcoming fall series "Beauty and the Beast," but since some new key art and another promo video have arrived, we thought we'd share them.

Synopsis:

Detective Catherine Chandler is a smart, no-nonsense homicide detective. Several years earlier Catherine witnessed the murder of her mother at the hands of two gunmen. Catherine would have been killed, too, but someone – or something – saved her. No one has ever believed her, but she knows it wasn’t an animal that attacked the assassins…it was human.

Years have passed, and Catherine is a strong, confident, capable police officer, working alongside her equally talented partner, Tess. While investigating a murder, Catherine discovers a clue that leads her to a handsome doctor named Vincent Keller, who was reportedly killed by enemy fire while serving in Afghanistan in 2002. Catherine learns that Vincent is actually...

This Week in Black Television: The Closer Ends, Grimm Returns, and Tyler James Williams stars on Go On
A little twist on the column this week as I preview shows that are coming out this week such as the series finale of The Closer and debut of spinoff series Major Crimes as well the very early season return of Grimm and the lackluster treatment of Black characters on Falling Skies and the primetime return of Tyler James Williams. Regular readers of this column know that The Closer is clearly one of my favorite television programs. In the premiere season seven years ago, series creator James Duff injected the show and star Kyra Sedgwick’s character deputy chief Brenda Leigh Johnson with a Prime Suspect-inspired plotline of being the female boss of an elite unit of (mostly) male...

Smallville Co-Showrunners Relocate to The CW’s Beauty And The Beast
It’ll be like homecoming week for Smallville‘s Lana when Beauty and the Beast star Kristin Kreuk starts working again with Smallville’s former co-showrunners Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders, who have now taken the same job with The CW‘s freshman show, an updated and reworked version of the 1980s Beauty and the Beast series.

THR broke the news, reporting that Peterson and Souders will be joining current showrunners/executive producers/writers Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper (Brothers & Sisters) as showrunners, which one has to think will be an interesting situation; four showrunners? Peterson and Souders most recently worked as consulting producers on yet another CW show, the one-season-only The Secret Circle.

Detective Catherine Chandler is a smart, no-nonsense homicide detective. Several years earlier, Catherine witnessed the murder of her mother at the hands of two gunmen. Catherine would have been killed too, but someone – or something – saved her.
