Travis Tritt, 62, Shocks Fans With New Look
Image
Travis Tritt is still as popular now as he was in the late 1990s but his career path took a turn as country music evolved with new artists. In a recent interview, the singer spoke out about why he was labeled as an outlaw in the music industry and why he’s not in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Plus, some fans thought the singer was unrecognizable at a recent concert.

Travis Tritt Addresses Country Music Hall Of Fame Snub

Travis Tritt is one of many well-deserving artists who aren’t in the Country Music Hall of Fame. The Nashville tourist spot recently unveiled a Dolly Parton exhibit about her life and career. While Travis Tritt isn’t on Dolly Parton’s legendary level (who is?) he’s still one of the most successful country artists.

The singer recently sat down with the Drifting Cowboys podcast. He opened up...

Watch Zach Bryan Cover Warren Zevon’s ‘Lawyers, Guns and Money’ at Stagecoach
Image
Zach Bryan debuted an unexpected, note-perfect version of Warren Zevon’s “Lawyers, Guns and Money” during his Stagecoach Festival headlining set Friday night, two days before the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the late singer-songwriter’s long-delayed induction.

Bryan introduced the 1978 track as his “favorite song of all time” midway through his two-hour set, before launching into a faithful rendition backed by a horn section. Bryan and one of his band members, Read Connolly, traded vocals on the song — Connolly’s singing voice turned out to sound quite a bit like Zevon’s.

Kid Rock Meets with Trump’s Attorney General Nominee to “Open a Can of Whoop Ass” on Concert Ticket Industry
Image
Kid Rock is taking aim at the concert-ticket industry, and plans to work closely with the person who may have the biggest say in the matter when the new administration takes over the White House in January.

The “American Bad Ass” recently met with president-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Attorney General, Pam Bondi, with plans to “open a can of whoop ass on the bots, scalpers, venues, ticketing companies, managers and artists alike who rip off and deceive the public.”

As Consequence pointed out earlier this year, tickets today cost two to three times as much as inflation-adjusted tickets from a few decades ago. On top of that, there’s been a number of high-profile ticket fiascos in recent years, including fan frustration with Live Nation and Ticketmaster over Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour,” and complaints over “dynamic pricing” for Bruce Springsteen’s 2023 tour.

Southern Rock Is Rising From the Ashes
Image
The American South is a hot mess of cultural contradictions, and while those contradictions have stoked the dumpster fire of U.S. politics for a couple of centuries, they also happen to be fueling some of the best music being made right now. And to be sure, the story of rock in 2024 is largely a story of Southern rock, in both classic-rock and indie-rock denominations.

On two of the year’s best records, Tigers Blood and Manning Fireworks, Katie “Waxahatchee” Crutchfield (Alabama) and Jake “Mj” Lenderman (North Carolina), respectively, made...

Blake Shelton Teams Up With Kid Rock For ‘Non-Woke’ Tour?
Image
Kid Rock is an avid supporter of President-elect Donald Trump. He performed at several of the politician’s rallies and the 2024 Republican National Convention. Rumors circulated on social media that the rocker would team up with country artist Blake Shelton for a “non-woke” tour of states that overwhelmingly voted for Trump. Keep reading for all the details on the alleged tour.

Blake Shelton Teams Up With Kid Rock For ‘Non-Woke’ Tour?

Kid Rock’s political leanings are very clear. What about Blake Shelton? The country singer hasn’t been as vocal about his politics as some other musicians. In 2016, he tweeted, “Hey guys lets talk politics. I believe many of the challenges this nation faces today can be solved. And I’m just gonna say what I think.” But he never really followed up with further comment.

Many country fans fully believe that there is ongoing bad blood between Hank Williams Jr. and Garth Brooks. This is based on a quote that many believe came from Hank Jr. badmouthing Brooks. So, did Williams Jr. really say what people think he said about Garth Brooks?

Hank Williams Jr. Has Had A Successful Music Career

Luckily, Hank Williams Jr. has been up to the task over the years. Despite being pushed to follow in his father’s footsteps early on, Hank Jr. found ways to distinguish himself, and carve out his own niche outside of his father’s large shadow.

Could Post Malone Finally Win His First Grammy?
Image
The year in music already belonged to Post Malone well before he scored the longest-running No. 1 song of the year (so far) with the lead single off his upcoming album, the Morgan Wallen-assisted “I Had Some Help.” In an unlikely coincidence, he had been summoned by the musical gods of contemporary music — Beyoncé and Taylor Swift — to appear on both of their recent albums, which were released three weeks apart in March and April.

You could call Malone the luckiest artist in the world, but getting the call from Bey and Tay only proves he’s got the special sauce that could turn into potential Grammy gold for the rapper/singer/songwriter/guitarist/rising country star who has 10 career nominations with no wins.

THR breaks down how Malone, who holds the record for most diamond-certified songs in music history, could finally be victorious at the Grammys.

There’s no better way to get hype for a basketball game than with a little “Roundball Rock”. Now, it is set to take the court yet again, as Tesh has delivered another spin on the instrumental.

John Tesh built up the updated version of “Roundball Rock” during an interview on The Dan Le Batard Show (via The Hollywood Reporter) by saying, “We went back into the studio and got me on Hammond organ and a guitar player named Andrew Synowiec, which was pretty incredible, and the rest of my band…I wrote an extra piece to put on the end of ‘Roundball Rock’, and then we did what’s known as the shredded version.

Image
Trisha Yearwood will be the inaugural recipient of CMT’s June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award, as well as performing a new song, on the “CMT Music Awards” telecast, airing live April 7 on CBS.

The singer will get the honor for her philanthropic work, which extends across many charities but most visibly includes two decades of involvement with Habitat for Humanity, which she’s long supported alongside husband Garth Brooks. (They were jointly given the org’s Habitat Humanitarians honor in 2016.)

Yearwood will use her first appearance on the annual awards show in five years to premiere “Put It in a Song,” the first preview of a forthcoming album that will be a first in her career, in that it’ll be the first collection in which she co-wrote all the songs.

The new award, named for June Carter Cash, doesn’t mark the first time a member of that country...

His wife, Amy Carmen, posted the news on the singer’s website. He apparently died in his sleep during the weekend, but no other details were given.

“It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen,” she wrote. “Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend. It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy. Please respect the family’s privacy as we mourn our enormous loss. ‘Love Is All That Matters… Faithful and Forever.’”

Carmen was born on August 11, 1949, in the Cleveland suburbs. He first rose to fame with the Raspberries’ 1972 breakout hit, “Go All the Way,” which hit No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and in Canada.

Charley Crockett Readies ‘$10 Cowboy,’ an Album He Says Was Written in Truck Stops, Casinos, Alleys
Image
It’s been a full 16 months since Charley Crockett has released a record. It’s barely a fraction of a typical album release cycle for most artists, but not Crockett: The Texas singer-songwriter released a whopping nine records over the five year span between 2018 and 2022.

The marathon wait is just one reason that $10 Cowboy, Crockett’s forthcoming album, is the most anticipated collection of the 39-year-old’s career. In a statement, Crockett explained that the record is a wandering tribute to his home country.

“This material is written at truck stops,...

According to Crockett, the Red Headed Stranger was recently recording at his Pedernales Recording Studio in Spicewood, Texas, and wanted to cut a new one. “I told him I had plenty,” Crockett said in a statement, adding that he proceeded to hang up, drive to his producer’s, and begin furiously writing.

Old Crow Medicine Show Want to Unite a Divided Country. They’d Even Tour With Jason Aldean
Image
Old Crow Medicine Show’s Ketch Secor is tidying up the cluttered kitchen of the band’s headquarters-slash-recording-studio in East Nashville so he can brew a pot of coffee. Empty beer bottles dot the counter and a table in the center of the room, whose walls are covered with Hatch Show Print posters advertising gigs by Old Crow and their heroes.

Since 2020, Secor and Old Crow, now seven members in all, have called this nondescript building far removed from Music Row their hangout. It has the feel of a place...

Chris Stapleton, Snoop Dogg Cover “In the Air Tonight” for ESPN’s Monday Night Football Anthem: Stream
Image
ESPN has switched up its soundtrack for Monday Night Football with a new opening theme in which Chris Stapleton, Snoop Dogg, and Cindy Blackman Santana perform a “reimagining” of Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight.” Check it out below.

If you really nit-pick this, the unlikely cover actually makes a decent amount of sense: Stapleton and Snoop have both performed at recent Super Bowls, with Stapleton performing the National Anthem this year and Snoop a part of the Halftime Show in 202. “In the Air Tonight” obviously needs a powerful drummer like Santana, who’s performed with legends including Pharoah Sanders, Lenny Kravitz, and — you guessed it! — Santana.

Why Collins’ 1981 smash hit was chosen as ESPN’s new hype anthem, however, is a bit of a head-scratcher. In a statement, the network said “In the Air Tonight” has a “deep relationship” with football, “having been cited in the past and present...

Are Politics Blurring the Lines in Hollywood?
Image
The entertainment industry occasionally blurs the lines between right and wrong, confusing fans as to who the true heroes and villains of the story are. While that may continue to be the case, the virtual monopoly in Hollywood is encountering a tremendous hazard, and this is being highlighted by what is happening in American politics.

MovieWeb has a political score in the center, meaning this site is considered politically neutral. In this neutral spirit, we humbly offer a view of current politics and how government and entertainment may be bisecting. Some say they believe the line between entertainment and politics has become even more blurred than it was in prior decades, and we'll take a look at the reasons why Hollywood and affairs of state have recently merged!

Celebrities in Center Stage

Many point out that politics and entertainment have always overlapped to a certain extent. For example, former President...

Right-Wing Influencers Just Found Their Favorite New Country Song
Image
Right-wing influencers are losing their minds over a new country song that just appeared on streaming services today. “Rich Men North of Richmond” is a passionate screed against the state of the country sung by Oliver Anthony, who identifies as a farmer living off the grid with his three dogs in Farmville, Virginia. In a video Anthony posted to YouTube earlier this month, he says he started writing songs in 2021 after he “wasted a lot of nights getting high and getting drunk.”

Raw, solo songs with titles like “I’ve...

The Most Ridiculously Right-Wing Country Songs of All Time

If you really want to understand where Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town” comes from, you have to go all the way back to Richard Nixon — and before that, George Wallace. Wallace, a former Alabama governor and segregationist independent candidate for president in 1968, got significant support from the country world, even holding fundraisers at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. After defeating Wallace that fall, Nixon saw the right-wing potential of country music, and invited Johnny Cash to the White House a couple of years later for a concert,...

A Timeline of Jason Aldean’s Controversies: Blackface and Confederate Flags
Image
Jason Aldean’s debut single, 2005’s “Hicktown,” arrived on country radio like a kick in the teeth, blending hard rock with country music and lyrics that unabashedly celebrated a certain type of rural life: “You can see the neighbor’s butt crack nailing on his shingles/and his woman’s smokin’ Pall Mall’s, watchin’ Laura Ingalls,” he sang.

“Hicktown” was an overnight success, a Top 10 hit on Billboard’s Hot Country chart and a crossover pop hit on the Hot 100. And the singles that followed were also mostly radio smashes,...
