8 '80s Movie Trends We're Glad Are Gone
Image
There's no doubt that the 1980s was a great decade for movie fans. But while people tend to think of critically-acclaimed work like Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back or Pretty in Pink when discussing '80s movies, not everything in '80s films sits well with viewers today. The decade relied heavily on the trends of the time, and viewers are glad to see some of these trends gone.

It's understandable how certain weaknesses couldn't be helped forty years ago, such as underwhelming CGI. However, there are also plenty of outdated prejudices or tired tropes on display even in the best films the decade had to offer.

Updated May 15th by Isaac Williams: The 1980s are still many people's favorite era for movies, and there's no denying their quality. However, there's also no denying the cliche,...

Faux Trailer Gives Classic Video Game 'Paperboy' a Grindhouse Makeover
Like many of you reading this right now, I grew up in a time where incredibly simple video games provided endless hours of entertainment.  And they didn't get much simpler than Paperboy, a 1984 arcade game that was ported over to home consoles shortly thereafter.  A sort of primer for the first job many kids ever have, the object of Paperboy was simply to ride around a bike and toss papers on lawns, avoiding road hazards along the way.  The early 90s saw the release of Paperboy 2, the first and only sequel to the game.

Now, decades later, we're gearing up for the release of Paperboy 3: The Hard Way, a live action film that sees our beloved paperboy all grown up, seeking revenge for a string of paperboy murders.  The paperboy has become a paper-man, and he's taking no prisoners in his quest to deliver street justice.

Okay, so there...

Artwork, Stills, and Trailers for Horror Double Feature Cross Bearer and The Cemetery
The Adam Ahlbrandt directed double feature Cross Bearer and The Cemetery has been making the rounds at Cannes, and we have more details on both, including artwork, trailers, and a few stills.

The films were picked up for German speaking territories by Illusions Unlimited, an Austrian Uncut Distribution Company. CEO Emsch Schneider said, "These movies are very cool and gory. Cross Bearer is a back-to-the-roots slasher, and The Cemetery is a gory and violent flick with amazing practical effects. We're honored to release these brutal movies Uncut in German speaking territories." We should hear more about a North American release and other territories shortly.

In The Cemetery (official site here) a team of paranormal investigators must fight for their lives after accidentally releasing a demon from a forgotten cemetery. Alternately gut-punching hilarious and brutally violent, The Cemetery takes the best elements of the old-school slasher film and pushes them to the edge.
