Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends Of Tomorrow's crossover was a major ratings smash
Rob Leane Dec 8, 2016

Legends' most-watched episode ever, and The CW's biggest week in six years - that's how well the crossover did.

Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends Of Tomorrow's massive four-part Invasion! crossover dominated headlines last week, and now we hear that it also dominated ratings.

See related Legion: X-Men TV show dubbed the 'Breaking Bad of superhero stories’ What can Fox learn from the previous X-Men TV series?

Deadline has published a big breakdown of the ratings for the Invasion! crossover. Some of the highlights are here:

Supergirl had its most-watched episode of the season, earning 3.5 million viewers. Supergirl's crossover-starting Medusa episode was the most-watched show in The CW's Monday 8-9pm slot since September 2008.

The Flash enjoyed its most-watched episode "in almost two years" with 4.15 million viewers. The Flash's Invasion! episode was therefore watched by more people than The Flash's season 3 premiere,...

Whistle Sports, Sky Team Up To Bring YouTube Sensations F2Freestylers To America
The F2Freestylers, who have more than 3.6 million subscribers on YouTube, are bringing their soccer skills across the pond. The British trick shot masters will star in F2 vs. The USA, a partnership between Whistle Sports and Sky Sports and one of the seven shows Whistle announced at its 2016 NewFronts presentation.

In the new series, F2 will challenge other Whistle partners (such as Brodie Smith) and athletes from Major League Soccer to a series of trick shot and skill competitions. The show deepens an existing partnership between Sky and Whistle; the British broadcaster invested $7 million in the sports-focused digital network back in 2014.

The other programs announced during Whistle’s NewFronts pitch were:

Battlegrounds, a world-spanning competition that carries a $50,000 prize.

Legends of Dunk, a slam dunk competition consisting of eight “regionals.”

50 Large, which will consist of 50 separate games, one in each state.

Arrow Recap: Son Burn — What Did You Think of Felicity's Reaction?
Vixen (2015)
This week on The CW’s Arrow, Damien Darhk’s abduction of Oliver’s super-secret son William set in motion a series of truth bombs and twists, the last of which allowed paralyzed Felicity to actually walk out on her fiance.

PhotosArrow First Look: Is This Oliver and Felicity’s Wedding Day?

In the wake of the mayoral debate, Darhk confronts Oliver just as he and Felicity leave her first post-biostimulant microchip therapy session. Oliver’s phone buzzes, and on it he sees video of William, none the worse for the wear, but… you know, kidnapped. After Darhk lays...

Sony Lists Playable Games Ahead Of December’s PlayStation Experience – But No Uncharted 4
Ahead of the show’s return in December, Sony has published the initial roll call of developers and publishers attending this year’s PlayStation Experience event in San Francisco.

There’s a brief rundown of the playable games that will be hitting the show floor, too, with the Japanese publisher expected to add plenty more in the build-up to December. Some of the more notable absentees, though, include Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, leading some corners of the Internet to draw speculation that the latter won’t make its March 18 release date. Then again, Sony has noted that this preliminary list is “only the beginning” of the announcements.

Tickets for the event are now available, too. Fans eager to go for the two days will find the tickets to be $75, while the one-day pass for Saturday are priced at $45. As for Sunday,...

Love Island 2005: What happened to winner Jayne Middlemiss? Or love god Lee Sharpe? We find out!
Remember the first ever Love Island with its seemingly clueless single celebrities constantly bickering on a tumultuous and stormy (literally and metaphorically) Fijian island?

Even the show's co-hosts Kelly Brook and Patrick Kielty were baying for one another's blood when Kielty decided to declare during one live show that Brook had previously dated contestant Paul Danan.

Other memorable highlights included Abi Titmuss becoming more and more enraged as Fran Cosgrave repeatedly referred to her as Vanessa Feltz, swiftly followed by a tipsy and uncouth Rebecca Loos letting rip.

The series aired almost exactly a decade ago, so we found ourselves wondering - whatever happened to eventual winner Jayne Middlemiss? And the Love Island love god that was Lee Sharpe?

As the new non-celebrity series currently enjoys its ITV2 revival, we find out what the 12 star contestants have gone on to do since their 2005 stint below:

12 forgotten hosts of the biggest TV shows from Brian Dunkleman to Daisy Donovan
American Idol was announced to be coming to an end after 15 seasons yesterday (May 12), but did you know that Ryan Seacrest used to have a co-host?

Brian Dunkleman hosted the Fox competition's first season alongside Ryan Seacrest, before the latter took sole control. History has not been kind to poor old Brian since, with Fox TV CEO Dana Walden joking about a possible reunion for the pair.

"Where is Brian Dunkleman? If you give me his number, I will call and invite him," she joked, though Dunkleman gave as good as he got last night:

I knew American Idol would never last without me #Cancelled

To honour Dunkleman, we have collected a few hosts of massive shows that you may have cruelly forgotten, starting with the man himself.

Are you ready for Part 2? More Gladiators of the '90s: Then and now
We certainly felt the power of 10 former Gladiators yesterday, as we took a look at what some of the stars went on to after the success of ITV's '90s hit.

We were bowled over to discover that Blaze (Eunice Huthart) is a stunt double to A-listers and godmother to Angelina Jolie's daughter Shiloh, and that Rhino (Mark Smith) went on to star in Hollywood films including Ben Affleck's Oscar-winning drama Argo.

But whatever happened to the villainous Wolf or the infamous Shadow, who was dramatically sacked from the series? We haven't found many current pictures of this lot, but here's a little bit about what 9 more of our favourite former Gladiators got up to after their time on the show:

1. Scorpio (Nikki Diamond)

Contenders were subjected to the mighty sting of the speedy Scorpio. Former bodybuilder and model Nikki Diamond was an original Gladiator, but was forced...

DaNica Shirey Sings Whitney Houston and Wows Clive Davis on The Voice
Pharrell Williams
It was dream-scenario Monday night for Team Pharrell star DaNica Shirey on The Voice.

She sang a few bars of Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing" to the late icon's longtime mentor, Clive Davis, who met with the Top 10 singers and gave Shirey high praise – after she sweetly confided that she'd written an 11th grade biography about Davis's life. And she'd learned to sing Whitney on a karaoke machine her late father bought her when she was 8.

Awww.

"Every single word that she sang was huge to me," Shirey told Davis, who knowingly embraced her humble and heartfelt homage.

'The Voice' Recap: Battle Rounds Part 1 - Gwen Steals A Country Artist From Team Blake
The Voice battle rounds began, putting coaches Gwen Stefani, Pharrell Williams, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine in the hot seat, and prompting some surprising steals.

Team Pharrell: Elyjuh René vs. Maiya Sykes

Team Pharrell kicked the night off with the very first battle, pitting Elyjuh René up against Maiya Sykes, a four-chair turn around. Elyjuh screamed with joy, and even began to tear up a little, when he saw Alicia Keys in the room. Not only that, but the duo was tasked with singing Keys’ own “If I Ain’t Got You” – with Alicia Keys sitting behind the piano. Sykes seemed like the favorite to win in rehearsals, but she was gracious, giving Elyjuh some help hitting the high notes.

Both gave strong performances, but in the end Pharrell stuck with Elyjuh, impressed with how he handled the high notes, saying he wanted to see how much he’d grow.

ITV's Gladiators: where are they now?
Have you ever wondered what Jet, Wolf, and the rest of ITV's Gladiators did after the show finished? Wonder no more...

ITV’s Gladiators - the show that for eight years made children everywhere become interested in sports, eating well and keeping fit... for about five minutes on a Saturday night, then we all went back to our natural state of sitting on the settee eating sugar straight from the packet.

What was it that inspired this minor surge of enthusiasm for being buff? That would be the gladiators themselves. Every week, twelve superhuman powerhouses - six men and six women - would intimidate, bully, and otherwise humiliate whichever puny contestants stepped up to try their luck, beating or hindering them in a series of physical skill games. This took place before the big finale – where the contenders would race each other up a downwards escalator, while the gladiators were...

E3 2014 conference roundup
Niall rounds up all of the major announcements from all the major games companies at this year's E3, in case you missed it

Feature

So E3 is over for another year. Breathe. After a frenzied four days which saw the major hitters in the gaming industry showcase their future releases, now is a good time to take stock of the major news released during the press conferences at the beginning of the expo. Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, EA and Ubisoft all had their chance on the main stage to wow fans with exciting announcements and brand new footage of the year's upcoming releases.

While this year's set of conferences could arguably be described as solid rather than spectacular, gaming's biggest companies still demonstrated that they had some treats in store for us over the coming year. Without further ado, here is a breakdown of all the biggest gaming news that happened at E3 this year.

E3 Impressions - Excited About The Future, But Why Not Now?
E3 has come and gone and now that the dust has settled we want to take a look back and discuss what got us excited, or dare I say disappointed. We have impressions from the show floor as well! Check it out after the jump!

Eric Gibbs

I’m ecstatic to see all three console companies come out swinging this year. I’ve always said let them fight it out, and let us reap the fantastic games! I was extremely happy to see that games were the primary focus this year. We still had interesting accessories like Sony’s Project Morpheus and Nintendo’s “toy-to-life” Amiibo line, but games were the core of what the console makers are pushing this year.

With games like No Man’s Sky, Abzu, Broforce and Hot Line Miami 2, Sony has continued pushing some amazing indie games, which seem to be some of my favorite in this neoteric console generation.

Rooney, rapping and war reporting: Past lives of the Big Brother stars
The first excitable batch of Big Brother contestants entered the famous Elstree compound last night (June 5), but are we right in thinking a few of their faces seem vaguely familiar?

Yes, yes we are! So we find out what salacious scandals or other reality TV shows a few of these fame-hungry housemates have been involved in before entering the house below:

Danielle McMahon

Strict Catholic and lingerie model contestant Danielle McMahon has appeared in the colourful pages of men's magazines such as Nuts (Rip) and FHM. She also dished the dirt on ex-bb contestant Dexter and his "designer penis" (no idea) to the Daily Star after they apparently dated for four months last year. Dexter appeared on Big Brother's Bit on the Side last night and denied that they had slept together.

McMahon has her own website with a portfolio of her modelling work and a blog (no-one's going to...

'The Voice' Finale Recap: Josh Kaufman Wins For Team Usher
After last night's final performances, Team Usher's Josh Kaufman was declared the winner of season 6 of The Voice, beating out Team Adam Levine's Christina Grimmie and Team Blake Shelton's Jake Worthington.

At the top of the show, Carson Daly announced that there was a glitch with the iTunes charts. Noticably missing from the Top 10 yesterday was Josh Kaufman’s cover of Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain.” To ensure fairness, all of the iTunes downloads that were supposed to count as votes for the finalists were taken out of the final tally – meaning only online voting, calls, etc. counted as votes. According to Carson, taking the iTunes downloads out of the final tally did not affect the outcome. In other news, Adam publicly announced that he would sign Christina Grimmie to his record label after the show.

After a quick recap of Monday night’s final live performances,...

Saturday Night Live (1975)
Recap: 'Saturday Night Live' – Andrew Garfield and Coldplay
Saturday Night Live (1975)
We’re here in the final stretch of the “Saturday Night Live” season, with just three consecutive episodes separating us and wild speculation about the fortieth season of the program. I have a few thoughts on what to look for over these three weeks, but the promos this week suggest “SNL” might have an extremely fun and game host in Garfield. He has cameo’d in the past when real-life girlfriend Emma Stone has hosted (look for her to return the favor tonight), but this is his first chance to show the comedic touches he brings to Peter Parker in a sketch-comedy setting. Along for the ride is musical guest Coldplay, who ironically last appeared on “SNL” when Stone hosted. Maybe Spider-Man will fight them as two-thirds of The Sinister Six. Not an Extremely sinister six, I’d grant you. But hey, what do I know? As always, I’ll be liveblogging,...

BBC Two is 50: The Hour, Bottom and more shows to bring back
BBC Two is 50 - the British Broadcasting Corporation's second eldest child hits the half-century mark this Sunday (April 20).

But which shows from those five decades on air were given short shrift? Did your favourite drama or comedy not get a fair shake?

BBC Two is 50: Share your memories and thoughts

Other channels have plundered BBC Two's back catalogue with results ranging from the sublime - Sky's Alan Partridge revival - to the disastrous - Gold's Yes, Prime Minister rehash.

But with just two days to go until Two hits 5-0, here's five more shows - from the '60s to the '00s - that deserve another shot.

The Likely Lads (1964-66)

"Oh, what happened to you? Whatever happened to me?" - Yes, its more distinguished follow-up Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? might have graduated to BBC One, but its 1960s predecessor was a BBC Two staple.

Gary Lineker takes on 'Match of the Day' critics: 'We're unique'
Gary Lineker has defended Match of the Day from criticism of its football analysis and punditry.

The former England striker has presented the highlights show since Des Lynam's departure in 1999. It has in recent years been criticised by Stan Collymore and others for a lack of quality in its analysis.

"It's comfortably the most difficult thing in terms of football punditry on television," Lineker told Digital Spy.

"It's the most-watched show for a start - it's not an anoraky kind of show, we don't have hours.

"Our show is not aimed at people that think they're technically better than they are because they play FIFA or whatever.

"It's aimed at the general public who want to watch the highlights of their teams with a little of bit of a) analysis b) opinion and c) news stories of the day. We also have, obviously, very little time."

Gary's Great Ingredient...

Bryan Fuller interview: Hannibal, elegant horror, Gillian Anderson, & more…
Interview Louisa Mellor 1 May 2013 - 07:00

We chat to Bryan Fuller about Hannibal, emulsifying human eyeballs, Lucifer, and elegant vs. exploitation horror…

I have a confession to make. Not one that reflects well on me, but one that bears airing as proof that Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller is a gentleman, a scholar, and - why not - an acrobat.

In the window of Covent Garden’s The Hospital Club, the chic venue for our chat with Star Trek: Voyager, Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, and Pushing Daisies writer Bryan Fuller, is a sculpture called Gold Digga. A pair of gilded deer antlers atop a glittery Mondrian painting, it’s a piece about the commodification of art, but to someone – me – fresh from watching episode one of Hannibal, it’s an apt coincidence. Stag antlers play an arresting role in the Hannibal opener, and this flashy, glitzy pair seems quite Fuller-y (remind...

Co-created by the people who brought us The Bill, here's a peculiar and rather worthy hybrid of fact and fiction – a fake fly-on-the-wall police procedural, starring a former real-life detective chief superintendent (Jane Antrobus). It's certainly plodding and humdrum enough to be authentic – though does chuck in the odd Columbo-style red herring to keep us interested. In this series opener, Di Jane and DS Ben Shaw (Hollyoaks' Ben Hull) investigate the case of an care home resident who's had his money stolen. Ali Catterall

Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonder Gets A Jazzy Makeover
Stevie Wonder
The challenge of recreating a beloved musician's greatest hits is a feat for any artist but this is especially the case when it comes to revisiting the work of a masterful musician and vocalist like Stevie Wonder.

Though Wonder's tunes have been revamped through the years by artists such as Jodeci ("Lately"), Mary J. Blige ("Overjoyed") and Intro ("Ribbon in the Sky"), members of the jazz ensemble Sfjazz Collective can add their names to the list of admirers who have reinterpreted the icon's music.

This month the eight-member modern jazz group has embarked on a 21-city national tour featuring the legendary singer's celebrated catalog of music.

"We have eight originals and then eight arrangements of Stevie Wonder's music," vibraphonist Stefon Harris explained to The Huffington Post. "Some of the arrangements include 'Superstition,' 'Visions.' There's a bit of 'Sir Duke' in there. So we're covering the classics."

American Idol Recap: Some Kind of Wonder-Ful
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol (2002)
You can’t always get what you want, as Mick Jagger (and later, Crystal Bowersox) once sang, and that adage has certainly been applicable to most of American Idol‘s first 399 episodes.

On Wednesday, however, in celebration of the 400th installment of the reality-competition granddaddy, Uncle Nigel took a page from Burger King’s ad department and produced an episode that let the Idoloonie Nation have it their way: A Top 13 packed almost entirely with solid (and varied) vocalists. Specific, constructive critiques from the judges. A mentor with serious chops, good humor, and spot-on advice. A clear, unmuddied sound mix.

Laura Prudom: 'American Idol' Recap: Whose Whitney Houston Stole The Show?
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol (2002)
We've had multiple weeks focusing on whittling down our finalists into final finalists and no-really-this-is-actually-the-final-group-performance finalists, but this week's "American Idol" finally felt like the real deal, with the Top 13 tackling the legendary songs of Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder. Mary J. Blige was on hand to offer vocal coaching with Jimmy Iovine, and though it seemed like a few of the contestants actually left their best performances in the practice room with the mentors, there were still a number of impressive vocals from both the boys and the girls (mainly Jessica Sanchez).

In a weird twist, it was revealed that Thursday's elimination would focus solely on the one male and one female artist with the lowest votes, rather than the three bottom contestants regardless of gender. But in the meantime, here's a rundown of the night's performances.

'American Idol' Report Card: Jessica Sanchez Owns The Night
Sanchez's take on Whitney Houston's 'I Will Always Love You' brings down the house as the guys tackle Stevie Wonder.

By James Montgomery

Jessica Sanchez on "American Idol"

Photo: Fox

"American Idol" swung for the fences on Wednesday night — and we're not just talking about Steven Tyler's decision to wear his Roy Lichtenstein pants. The girls tackled Whitney Houston songs (borderline blasphemy?) and the guys did Stevie Wonder, and, after two hours of performances that ran the gamut from "startlingly great" to "shockingly unhinged" — with the majority falling somewhere in the middling middle — well, perhaps it's best if producers reined it in a tad.

Still, there were some highlights (Jessica Sanchez!), and with eliminations coming Thursday night (March 8) — though, in classic late-era "Idol," they've added some unnecessary wrinkles to the proceedings — here's our grades for the Top 13. Who passed with flying colors? Who flunked out in flaming fashion?...

American Idol Top 13 Cover Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder: Who Was Your Favorite?
Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan in American Idol (2002)
The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. The road to the American Idol crown, however, is littered with the wreckage of Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder songs done very, very wrong.

It’s a testament to the Season 11 Top 13, then, that on a night where the ladies were asked to cover Whitney, and the gentlemen tackled Stevie, we barely heard the sound of tires squealing and metal combusting against metal. Oh, sure, there were a couple of minor fender-benders (from contestants whose names rhyme with Man-In Da-Pain and Yer-Pain Moans), but for the most part, the current crop...

'American Idol' Top 13: Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder and 400 episodes, oh my!
The "American Idol" Top 13 have been given the songs of Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston to sing this evening, so ... way to throw them in the deep end. With sharks. And a bleeding arm wound.

Between J.Lo's white pantsuit and Ryan's lack of tie, the judges are looking very disco this week. Do the hustle! And let us not forget Randy's terrifying dollhead on his lapel. Wtf is up with that?

Can you believe its been 400 episodes? And I honestly haven't missed a one since the Season 1 finale. Holy cow.

1. Joshua Ledet, "I Wish"

This is a wonderful choice for him. He actually sounds quite a bit like young Stevie on parts. The horn section is also awesome. The performance takes a little while to get to the chorus, though. That's the more exciting part, so it maybe could've come a little sooner. But his scatting on the bridge and the ending are fabulous,...

Wonder sings at Whitney's funeral
Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys and R. Kelly all performed musical tributes at Whitney Houston's funeral on Saturday (18.02.12). The Motown legend sat at the piano and sang 'Ribbon in the Sky', one of her favourite songs, and 'Love's In Need of Love Today', before paying a personal tribute to the late singer at the emotional service held at the New Hope Baptist Church - which Whitney attended and sang at as a child - in Newark, New Jersey,. Stevie said: ''I want to thank God for allowing me to be in this world at the same time as Whitney ... In my...

BBC One and ITV may have dominated the holiday season but as we head into 2012, Sky One are rolling out some big guns of their own and proving that the network can compete with the traditional power houses when it comes to quality drama. The network’s Treasure Island, saw a motley crew of British TV stars, Hollywood actors and a certain comedian coming together in the kind of bid budget production that other channel’s can scarcely afford to make.

Rupert Penry-Jones (Silk) was in his element as the aristocratic expedition leader Trelawney and Philip Glenister (Hidden) was well cast as the no nonsense Captain Smollett. Daniel Mays (Outcasts) did well as an upper class doctor and Toby Regbo as Jim Hawkins did remarkably well...
