Disney is still committed to adapting their most beloved animated films into live-action movies, despite their past attempts receiving mixed reviews at best. Cinderella, which they already remade in 2015, is next on the chopping block. However, according to a new report, the film will potentially be the most unfaithful adaptation thus far. In fact, it won't even include Cinderella. The new live-action Prince Charming movie was announced last October, with Paddington's Paul King developing the film. Chris Hemsworth was also in talks to play the titular Prince, although, that appears to have fallen through. Since then, Twisters star Daisy Edgar-Jones has reportedly been cast in the movie, and her role has just been revealed.

Disney's live-action Prince Charming is reportedly moving ahead, according to Hollywood scooper Daniel Richtman. According to the report, the film will follow an unnamed animator (Edgar-Jones) who sketches drawings of Prince Charming from Cinderella. One day her drawing comes to life.

Cinderella was Walt Disney's favorite princess, resonating deeply with him. Cinderella saved Walt Disney Productions, reviving its financial health post-1947. Cinderella inspired future Disney princess films, embodying themes of love and hope.

Walt Disney oversaw the production of various animated movies that became classics, but only one has his favorite character and his favorite animated scene. Walt Disney earned a place in history thanks to the founding of Walt Disney Productions and his achievements in animation through it, beginning in 1937 with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Cinderella is coming out of the Disney Vault to celebrate a major event.

The company previously announced a special series of anniversary re-releases of some of the most beloved films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm as part of the company's 100th-anniversary celebration. Cbr has the exclusive first look at the cover artwork for the Cinderella 4K SteelBook, which captures the moment Cinderella first receives her ball gown from the Fairy Godmother. The back of the SteelBook features the iconic glass slipper while the inside shows Prince Charming meeting Cinderella. This marks the first time that Cinderella will be available to own on a 4K Ultra HD disc. The animated classic is scheduled for release on Aug. 1, 2023, alongside new SteelBooks of Beauty and the Beast and Frozen.

After five years of combining animated short subjects, and a combo live-action/animation feature, Disney dove into full feature animation fantasy again with the most basic of Fairy Tales. Just because he learned to create animation for a price doesn’t mean that the quality slacked off — the wondrous design and animation is augmented by terrific songs. Yes, half the picture is about cute mice and birds and other critters … which are done so well, the show is worth seeing multiple times. This handsome Signature Collection release follows earlier Diamond and Platinum releases … and don’t ask me to decode that classification system.

There are few films that I’ve come around on as much as I’ve come around on Mike Cahill‘s Another Earth. When the film bowed at Sundance 2011, it was as one half of the buzzed-about “arrival” of star and co-writer Brit Marling, who quite memorably debuted yet another film at the festival that she also co-wrote and starred in (the still far superior Sound of My Voice). While Somv instantly captivated me (and continues to do so), Another Earth frustrated and, quite frankly, angered me. Its unique plot – a twin Earth is discovered heading towards our own Earth, and it soon becomes obvious that said twin Earth also contains a twin of everything else, including Marling’s unlucky Rhoda Williams – seemed utterly wasted, with Cahill and Marling more concerned with mining the non-drama of Marling’s inappropriate relationship with a guy whose family she accidentally killed. I like the concept: A mirror to our homeworld appears in the skies... and it appears that we all have doppelgangers on this other Earth. Neat-o, if entirely outlandish. Another Earth is released in UK cinemas this Friday and we got to chat with one of the film’s stars, William Mapother who you may know as Ethan in TV Series Lost along with multitudes of other things. If you missed it, yesterday I put up the interview with Brit Marling. In the interview, we get to hear from him about his take on the movie and what we can expect to see. A low-budget film full of high-concept ideas, Another Earth is Mike Cahill’s debut feature. Here’s Ryan’s review of an atmospheric sci-fi drama…

Beautifully shot on a tiny budget by former documentary maker and debut feature director Mike Cahill, Another Earth brings with it a similar style and meditative atmosphere that Gareth Edwards brought to last year’s Monsters. And like Monsters, Another Earth introduces a great sci-fi concept that serves as a tantalising backdrop rather than a central premise.

It asks what would happen if an identical copy of Earth, populated by our exact doubles, were to suddenly float into our solar system. It’s a great idea, but one only lightly explored in Another Earth’s 90-minute duration. Instead, Cahill’s film concerns itself with the life of a young girl, Rhoda Williams (Brit Marling, who also co-wrote) who, at the outset, is an intelligent yet reckless 17-year-old.

After celebrating her admittance to MIT, high school student Rhoda Williams drives home while listening to a radio broadcast that reveals another planet has been found in our solar system. Drunk, and staring up into the night sky to catch a glimpse of the distant blue dot that is this new world, Rhoda fails to notice another car stopped at an intersection and crashes into it at high speed. Only she and the driver of the other car, a composer named John Burroughs, survive; his wife and young son are both killed instantly.

Several years later Rhoda is released from jail. By now the new planet has been identified as a mirror Earth – a parallel world to our own – and looms large in the sky both day and night. With her life irrevocably changed by the events of that fateful night years before, Rhoda’s ambitions fall by the wayside...

The UK release date of director Mike Cahill's thought-provoking first feature Another Earth has been pushed back a week to December 9, 2011, it's been announced by Fox Searchlight.

The heartfelt sci-fi drama tells the story of Rhoda Williams (Brit Marling), a brilliant young woman searching for a way to right the tragedy that ruins her career. It occurs just as a mysteriously similar planet, provisionally dubbed Earth 2, suddenly appears in the sky.

Art house cinemas seem to get a flood of low-budget indie dramas about drifting twenty-somethings every year. Well, here’s one with an interesting twist. Another Earth, as it’s title suggests, is indeed about another, parallel, earth. It’s like our planet’s looking into a mirror. This film focuses not on that twin, but on how it’s sudden appearance effects the residents of this earth. And you guessed it- how this effects a woman in her twenties who seem to be adrift.

Said woman is Rhoda Williams, played by the film’s co-writer Brit Marling. We first see her celebrating at a party. Seems the young genius has been accepted by MIT. Driving home she hears on the radio the news of the discovered twin earth. Craning her head out the car window, she causes a horrific accident. We next see Rhoda being released from prison after serving four years.

“Another Earth” starts off with an interesting enough, if completely ridiculous premise. Scientists have found a heretofore-unnoticed planet, an exact replica of Earth to be exact, hiding behind the moon, and the movie attempts to explore the impact this discovery has on the people of “Earth One”. What it actually does is meander around for a while, trying to be moody, but succeeding only at boring the ever loving crap out of you. At times it is painfully indie, full of long, static shots of characters walking from one side of the frame to the other. Once in a while that device is okay to use, but it comprises roughly half of “Another Earth”. You just want something interesting to happen, but it never does. With Another Earth, Mike Cahill has made his first feature film, from a script he co-wrote with one of the movie's lead actors - Brit Marling - with whom he previously collaborated on some short film projects. The film tells the story of Rhoda Williams (Marling), a brilliant young woman who causes a car accident with tragic results on the evening it is announced that a second "mirror" Earth has been discovered. After she is released from prison, Rhoda moves back to her family's home and gets a job as a janitor in a local school. Feeling wayward, she enters a write-in contest that is sending the winners to the other planet. Meanwhile, she attempts to reconcile what she has done with the surviving member of the car accident, a composer (William Mapother, Lost) who has sealed himself off since losing his family.

Science fiction isn't a genre often associated with indie film. Can you imagine "Star Wars" or "Independence Day" made with a minuscule budget and no-name actors?

But against all odds, newbie director Mike Cahill and buzzed-about actress Brit Marling pull off the feat of making a game-changing sci-fi love story for the indie set with "Another Earth."

The film, written by Cahill and Marling, concerns Rhoda Williams, a beautiful, smart young woman on track for a bright future after getting accepted into MIT's astrophysics program. Things take a nosedive for Rhoda when she accidentally crashes her car into another, leaving famed composer John Burroughs (William Mapother) without a wife and child.

Another Earth is not a perfect movie, but it's kind of the epitome of why so many of us love indie films, making it no wonder that it's one of the "hot" Sundance flix this year. It ticks off the boxes for so many of our indie film requirements:

1. Has an interesting concept that blends genres. This is one of the movies where I can go one of two ways, telling you very little about the plot, or giving you a bit more. It doesn't much matter, as it's an enjoyable film either way, but I think it's a better viewing experience with the smaller plot description. Feel free to whichever paragraph you think is right for you:

The past year or so has seen the release of some great sci-fi movies, and it's films such as Source Code, Limitless and Monsters that remind me why I find the genre so endlessly exciting: unusual, engaging ideas.

There certainly appears to be an unusual and engaging idea at the heart of the forthcoming sci-fi indie movie, Another Earth, directed by Mark Cahill. It's about the discovery of an alternate Earth identical to our own. Following its discovery, guilt-stricken student, Rhoda Williams (played by Brit Marling, who also co-wrote the script), having just been let out of prison following a tragic accident, attempts to discover what kind of life her double on the other Earth is living.

A Cimmerian warrior! Giant robots hell bent on destroying Chicago! A midlife crisis! Three horrible bosses! A wimp on steroids for his country! James Bond and Indiana Jones fighting Aliens in the Old West! Winnie the Pooh! And a bloody wizard m&#234l&#233e that will bring one of cinema's greatest sagas to a close forever! That's what July and August have to offer during the second half of our summer movie season.

It doesn't really matter how fast and furious things get on the big screen, the summer movie season doesn't officially kick off until May 6th. And this year Thor opened things with a lighting bolt blast of Marvel excitement. It doesn't come to an end until August 31st, when Sam Worthington sends us all back to school with The Debt. Between then and now, we will see some of the biggest movies of the year hit hard.

We are two days away now from the official kick-off of the summer blockbuster season, with the arrival in theaters of Thor on Friday (although, the Spring's last entry, Fast Five has already stolen some summer thunder) and as we always do the week of, we're looking ahead to bring some attention to the smaller films of summer. The blockbusters -- we'll get to those, later. But even if we don't, there's no one among you that needs a reminder that Green Lantern or X-Men First Class will be arriving in theaters. I think Marvel actually hired a guy to stand next to me all day and yell Captain America F*ck Yeah! in my ear. Annoying little fucker. But at least I know that Max Casella (Doogie Howser's best friend) is gainfully employed.

Another Earth The MPAA has just released a fresh batch of MPAA ratings for several horror and sci-fi films including ratings for the upcoming Another Earth which is due out this summer from Fox Searchlight Pictures. Here's what ratings the MPAA handed down this week:

Another Earth, which is due in theaters July 22nd, deals with Rhoda Williams (Marling), an astrophysics student at MIT. While driving she sees a planet and leans out for a closer look. She hits a minivan and kills a family. She is imprisoned for four years, and upon release seeks out the widower of the family, composer John Burroughs (Mapother). The planet she saw is a mirror planet of Earth. An essay contest is held where the winner can ride a space shuttle to visit it. Williams considers the possibility of visiting it to find out what kind of life her mirror self would have led.

When is a sci-fi movie not really a sci-fi movie? When it’s Mike Cahill’s “Another Earth”. Oh sure, the trailer starts with another Earth mysteriously showing up in our atmosphere, but that’s pretty much where the sci-fi stuff ends. The rest of the movie looks like a pretty heavy drama about regret, forgiveness, and other heady, life stuff. Don’t get me wrong, this is actually all very intriguing to me, but just don’t go in thinking it’s going to be really sci-fi, that’s all I’m saying. I could be wrong, of course.
