Jim Lee’s Injustice 2 #1 Cover Teases Brainiac
In the very near future, DC fans will be welcomed back to one of the most wildly popular alternate universes this reporter has ever seen when not only the Injustice 2 video game arrives in stores, but the prequel comic as well.

Much like the comics that tied into the first game, the new series aims to detail the years preceding the events of the console experience. Aside from finding out what the morally ambiguous Justice Leaguers have been up to, it looks like we’ll learn more about this specific interpretation of Brainiac, whom we’ve gotten the impression will factor heavily into the game’s storyline.

Although we won’t know much about him until we pick up a controller or open a book, it’s fair to say that his look is somewhat inspired by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s vision that was later adapted to an animated movie called Superman Unbound,...

Official Solicit Sheds More Light On Dark Days: The Forge #1
Yesterday, DC took us all by surprise by announcing two one-shots set to be published under the title of Dark Days, the first of which will ship in June. Co-written by Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV, with art by John Romita Jr., Jim Lee and Andy Kubert, it’ll no doubt demand the attention of not just Batfans, but those of DC as a whole.

It’s certainly no secret by now that Snyder is cooking up a major event with Greg Capullo, which will center heavily on the Dark Knight. Knowing that, it caused us to believe that the upcoming one-shots will serve as a prelude to the main event.

Well, thanks to the official solicit touting The Forge with the line “The great comics event of summer 2017 is about to begin,” it seems like our suspicions of this being a prologue have been validated. Now, that doesn...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 11-16-2016
Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 11-16-2016

This week Batman’s plans for Operation: Break Bane’s Damn Back! Continues with an unexpected (but not really) twist, Green Arrow continues to deliver, and I basically give up Aquaman being interesting. To top it off I’m thinking I’ll finally drop Suicide Squad as despite Jim Lee’s artwork the story is just dumb. It’s lowest common denominator dumb. Characters acting different then they do anywhere else, being forced to feel more like the “movie”, and now potential zombie Captain Boomerangs. How did the other books fair this week? Read on!

Aquaman #11

Story: Dan Abnett Art: Philippe Briones, Gabe Eltaeb

Review: So it takes Arthur nearly getting beaten to death by the Shaggy Man (yes that’s a real villain, a robot that’s indestructible and looks like Big Foot) to finally win some good graces back...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Comics Round Up Week 10/12/2016

A little late this time around, but never forgotten! This week I take a quick look at the developing stories from DC’s Rebirth line up. While not a huge week for story development, we do get to wrap up a few plots and open the doors to a few more!

Action Comics #965

Story: Dan Jurgens Art: Stephen Segovia, Art Thibert, Arif Prianto, Dave Sharpe

Review: So with Superman seemingly unable to prove anything nefarious about this new Clark Kent, it’s up to Lois to try to figure out what’s going on! To do that she pretends to the Lois Lane of New 52 Universe, and as expected things don’t go completely as planned. Jurgens continues to do an excellent job here with how he handles the characters. Everyone feels right, in that their motivations, manner of speech and actions...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 09-28-2016

This week begins New York Comic Con! And your faithful comic book reviewer will be attending and looking to get as many scoops, interviews and photos possible! How does DC Comics look going into this week’s releases and Comic Con line up? Let’s take a look!

Action Comics #964

Story: Dan Jurgens Art: Patrick Zircher, Tomeu Morey

Review: So this is supposed to bring things back to the “status quo” for Superman. Ummm…I guess? Essentially Pre-Flash Point Supes brings current mystery “normal” Clark Kent the fortress of solitude. There Superman begins to inspect Clark to see just how the heck this is all possible. The final conclusion seems to be that indeed this is legit Clark Kent and The Superman of New 52 was impersonating as Clark to protect him from a dangerous organization. Now of course none of this...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 09-14-2016

DC is settling into its new focused style of content storytelling, and producing some fantastic stories thanks to the new approach. While mostly everything has been a hit, there have been a few snags as well. One issue I keep having is trying to figure out how it all “fits” together in a bigger picture. Some books seem closer connected others; some appear not connected all to the larger DC Universe. This might not be a problem for most, it can be a little jarring for me, when I’m reading Batgirl is running around Japan in her book, but is also hanging out with Huntress and Black Canary in the Birds of Prey series, while appearing in Nightwing and referencing her time currently in Japan, but Black Canary appears in Green Arrow without any indication she’s even been to Gotham or around Batgirl.

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 08-17-2016

DC Comics has been killing it with sales lately, and for good reason! The Rebirth has been a success with almost every series delivering well-written and illustrated stories. Whatever editorial direction Geoff Johns put the company on, it’s worked! The characters feel fresh and new again, while still keeping true to the status quo set up in the New 52 Universe. Could the books do a slightly better job at feeling more “interconnected” (No that doesn’t mean crossover!)? Sure! But regardless, each individual series feels very well put together and on a focused plot. So without further delay, check out the hot books from this week’s DC Comics Rebirth line up!

Comics: What to Pick Up on 3/2
With the first week of March upon us it also means the beginning of major comic storylines. We are only a few weeks away from Civil War 2, DC's Rebirth, The Walking Dead climax to the Whispers story line, and Titan-Comics release of old anime favorites. This week I have pick out some popular comics that probably wont be a surprise. My favorite series right now is Old Man Logan with issue number 3 coming out today. Also following the popular adult meditation through coloring DC is releasing a new version of Batman: Hush where you can color in the pages of the story. Here is a few comics I will be picking up today.

Coloring DC: Batman – Hush Vol. 1

U.S. Price: $15.99

DC Comics presents classic adventures in a whole new way: in black and white, on heavy stock suitable for coloring! This title collects the opening chapters of “Batman: Hush,...

Comic Review: The Multiversity: Mastermen #1
Grant Morrison is a constant subject of my frustration when reading comic books. Although he’s hit with me more than he hasn’t, I never know what to expect from the writer as I venture into one of his tales. Sometimes they’re so overwrought with scientific mumbo-jumbo and challenging social commentary that it distracts me from the storyline too much. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case as I made my way through The Multiversity: Mastermen #1.

Imagine a world where the Nazis not only won World War II but went on to direct world culture for the next sixty years with the help of an orphaned, alien super-weapon known as Overman! But hope is not lost! Rising from the ashes of oppression are a diverse band of heroes raging against the fascist regime that includes Leatherwing, Blitzen, and the other “heroes” of Earth-x – a band of champions known as...

Justice League: Origin, the Worst Way to Introduce the Justice League
Justice League #1-6

Written by Geoff Johns

Pencils by Jim Lee; Inks by Scott Williams; Colors by Alex Sinclair

Published by DC Comics

Created as the flagship title of the New 52 and the opening arc for this new era of comics, Justice League “Origin” is a cringe-worthy retelling of the League’s beginnings. Despite having the talented Geoff Johns handling story and drawn by Jim Lee, Justice League “Origin” is a boring and underwhelming tale.

The story follows the expected Leaguers: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, and new regular Cyborg as they join together to form the Justice League. Unfortunately, all of these heroes present have been reduced to early to mid-twenty somethings in an effort to make them younger and more relatable. But this only serves to make the world’s greatest heroes a bunch of bickering idiots. Superman is a short-sighted brute, Batman talks down to everyone,...

‘Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?’ is a good ending for Batman
Batman #686 and Detective Comics #853

Written by Neil Gaiman

Pencilled by Andy Kubert

Inked by Scott Williams

Colors by Alex Sinclair

Published by DC Comics

After Bruce Wayne’s death in Final Crisis, DC Comics gave legendary comics creator and novelist Neil Gaiman the chance to pen one “last” Batman story in the vein of Alan Moore’s Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?, which was the last Superman story before Crisis on Infinite Earths. Equal parts love letter and thesis statement, Gaiman and artist Andy Kubert open the comic showing the usual Gotham City skyline, but with the names of important Batman creators, like Bill Finger and Jim Aparo in the background. They attempt to cram in 70 years of Batman’s history in a two part comics story and succeed in showing what makes Batman tick and endure as a character and pop culture figure. Like Gaiman’s “The World’s End” arc,...

Graphic Review: Justice League: Trinity War
DC Comics brings their latest event which unified its universe to the graphic novel format with Justice League: Trinity War. The cataclysmic battle crossed the pages of Justice League, Justice League of America, Justice League Dark, Trinity of Sin: Pandora, Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger, Constantine, and the New 52 Free Comic Book Day Special for 2012. It was a colossal endeavor that brought together almost every character from every corner of the DC world.

Pandora has stolen her box back and is scouring the world in search of the perfect or imperfect soul to open it. She believes her actions will put an end to the evil she accidently released on humanity. The members of the three different Justice Leagues are at odds over whether or not Pandora can be trusted or knows what she's doing. Is she misled in her endeavors or can she really wipe the face of evil off the Earth?...

Panel Discussion #28
So Infinity (w. Jonathan Hickman a. Jim Cheung, Dustin Weaver) concluded what’s been an interesting if not exactly mind-blowing run. The Avengers return to earth to sort out Thanos and his nasty mates, Maximus of the Inhumans cracks wise and saves the world and Rocket Raccoon makes an all-too brief (like, one panel appearance). The main point of the event seems to have been to launch the Inhumanity series – which to be fair, does look kind of interesting – but beyond that, I’m not sure what we’ve learnt. None of the characters seem to have radically changed from what I, as a pretty casual Marvel reader, understand to be their default personality setting to be. What happens to Thanos (and I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say that yes, something happens to the primary antagonist in the last issue of a comic book series) is cool,...

Graphic Review: Justice League Volume 3: Throne of Atlantis
DC Comics keeps reader anticipation at a fever pitch with Justice League Volume 3: Throne of Atlantis. Although it stars all the members of the Super Friends, the book gives one of the team's highly unsung heroes the limelight he deserves. Aquaman and the battle over his undersea kingdom is the center of attention in this collection of Justice League issues 13 through 17 and Aquaman 15 and 16.

A U.S. Navy missile strikes Atlantis, provoking Ocean Master to gather the forces of the undersea kingdom to attack the east coast of the United States. Aquaman leads the Justice League into battle, all the while hoping he can straighten out the deadly situation. Can he stop an impending war between the U.S. and Atlantis? What will Aquaman do to protect the city of his ancestors?

Geoff Johns once again pens a story filled with mystery, intrigue, action, and drama. Not content with...

12 Reasons Justice League Should Follow Up Man Of Steel
After the Success of Marvel’s Avengers, it was shocking that Warner Bros. didn’t come out with a plan for DC Comics’ own ensemble property The Justice League. Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel was met with mixed reviews; it’s going to be the launching pad for the larger DC universe. DC and Marvel have always been direct competitors, but if DC wants to capitalize on the all-star team up film they’re going to need a plan and execute it quickly.

The Avengers sequel Age of Ultron is slated for 2015, and with the ever circulating rumors of a Jl project, DC fans are more anxious than they are excited. It’s time to give the people what they want; here are 12 reasons a Justice League movie should be a priority over Batman vs. Superman using The New 52 Justice League Volume One: Origins.

Superman Unchained Takes Superman Back to Basics
Superman Unchained #1

Cover: Jim Lee, Scott Williams & Alex Sinclair

Publisher: DC Comics

This week undoubtedly marks one of the biggest weeks in the 75 year history of Superman. Not only is the character finally getting a movie worthy of his greatness, but DC Comics actually had the wherewithal to let one of their best writers tackle the world’s most popular comic book character. With Superman Unchained, DC is hoping to tap into writer Scott Snyder’s undeniable talent to bring their character back to forefront of comic pages after tumbling so far down since the New 52 took place. Sure, Snyder was a good choice, but just to be safe they hooked him up with the one and only Jim Lee. So is Superman Unchained the New 52 story we’ve been waiting for, or do two industry giants fail to...

The Tower Chronicles Marks the Arrival of Legendary Comics
Legendary Comics launches their first series today with The Tower Chronicles: Geisthawk – Volume 1, from Matt Wagner and Simon Bisley. The 48-page prestige format release begins a new universe that represents the kinds of comics Legendary intends to explore. The Tower Chronicles is the tale of John Tower, a supernatural bounty hunter. His missions lead him into mankind’s most dangerous places to banish poltergeists, demons, and other supernatural evils that plague his “sometimes respectable” patrons.

The first issue sports two different covers, one from Bisley, perhaps best remembered for his work on Lobo in the 1990s, and Jim Lee, DC Entertainment’s co-publisher, inked by his usual partner Scott Williams. The series is being inked by Rodney Ramos, the journeyman inker best known for his work on Transmetropolitan.

The Tower Chronicles: Geisthawk – Volume 1 was written by Wagner (Grendel and Mage) in consultation with Thomas Tull, founder of Legendary Pictures. It...

Big Bang Theory, Walking Dead, X-Men, Captain America, Misfits in Eagle Awards 2012
Comics and all closely-related creative works in the geek spectrum are celebrated in the Eagle Awards 2012 - with the final round of voting now open to the public.

It's a chance to pick your favourite artist, writer, colourist, letterer, editor, publisher, story, graphic novel and comics magazine, along with American, British, European and manga titles.

But it goes beyond the printed page. There will be trophies for best web-based comic and comics website, while a further accolade will honour the best comics-related TV show or movie.

All the nominations are listed in full below.

It's apparent that the TV/film nominations do not necessarily have to be adapted from a comic. The contenders in this category are: The Big Bang Theory, The Walking Dead, X-Men; First Class, Captain America and Misfits.

The Big Bang Theory isn't derived from a comic but features four characters who are keen fans of comics and sci-fi culture.

Comic Review: Justice League #5
Tyrants!

Time to review Justice League #5, as we return to the aftermath of Darkseid’s first full appearance in the New 52 DC universe. Does he measure up to the Darkseid of old? Can our recently formed League take him down? Let’s see!

Review:

The entire Justice League has been Ko’ed by Darkseid’s initial assault. Flash and Superman are up first and quickly have to dodge away from Darkseid’s Omega Beams, which are homed in on them like heat seeking missiles. Flash uses his wits to barely avoid the beams, but Superman isn’t so lucky. He takes an Omega beam straight in the back! after which, he gets carted off to a boomtube by some Parademons.

However, other than the rest of the team realizing that they have another new member in Cyborg, most of the cast doesn’t have much to do in this issue.

Well, I wasn’t expecting That from this issue. After last months punch and quip fest my expectations weren’t at their highest for this issue. I was expecting a bog standard punch up issue between our heroes and the villain, however I’m shocked at how many effective character moments and plot developments make it into this issue.

Last issue saw Darkseid reach earth and effectively decimate the League in a matter of seconds but thankfully this issue doesn’t become a 20 page slugfest. In fact Darkseid physically does very little in this issue, while leaving a giant impact on the team and becoming a far more intimidating foe than I previously expected. Much like how Geoff Johns continues to write...

Comic Book Review: ‘Justice League’ #5
Justice League continues to prove itself as the “blockbuster” series of DC Comics ‘New 52′ lineup with the release of its fifth issue. All of the elements to make it a “blockbuster” series are here; loud explosions, fast-paced action and a devastated backdrop for a battle to unfold against. Unfortunately, the latest issue also brings with it some of the lesser qualities that seem to make a blockbuster nowadays; moments of disbelief, semi-cheesed dialogue and a tendency to favor style over substance. Mind you, for the first couple of issues, this was a solid approach for a series of this magnitude as all of the involved characters were crossing paths for the first time and it was exciting to see these encounters unfold amidst an extraterrestrial threat. But five issues into the series, we start to yearn for something more and feel the need come out in full force by the...

After reading the latest issue of Justice League I came upon a somewhat harsh realization about this series, as much as I’ve enjoyed each individual issue of the series so far it’s by no means the best series of the New 52, why was that? Stay with me when I say this but if Justice League had the intention of brining the summer blockbuster “eventâ€., approach to the series then they are without a doubt the comic book alternative of the recent Transformers films (shy the racist and sexism obviously).

I hate to use the term mindless as that’s giving the series such little justice, however the mind frame I find myself in while reading this book is the...

Comic Review: Justice League #3
Tyrants!

We’re back for issue #3 of DC’s new 52 Justice League series! And as the cover states, we meet Wonder Woman. Nice!

Review:

The book starts off introducing the readers to Wonder Woman, who from what it seems like has newly arrived from Paradise Island. Here she appears to be an envoy for the Amazons living in Washington DC, possibly positioning herself as DC’s patron hero! It seems that while Diana is still a warrior born and bred, she has lived a very sheltered life on Paradise Island and doesn't fully get the anti-superhero sentiment around her. Plus, she is always looking for villains to fight.

Steve Trevor is her Pentagon liaison in the thankless position of trying to keep her in line, especially given the anti-hero fervor.

And of course, around the same time, parademons are popping up through boom tubes all over the world, which leads us back to Superman,...

The team is almost fully assembled and Darkseids rise seems closer than ever.

With #3 hitting our shelves writer Geoff Johns is finally able to touch on the real core of this story without relying too heavily on introductory quips throughout the team.

This issue sees the introduction of Wonder Woman, she’s a slightly more comical version than what we are used to. Much like Thor in this years summer blockbuster, we are whiteness to a powerful god who is looking at our world with entirely fresh, almost childlike eyes, causing them to be astonished at the smallest thing (in this case ice cream). It’s an interesting shift from the Diana we know (especially when compared to the Wonder Woman see...

When the first issue of DC’s new flagship book landed on our shelves back on the 31st of August, it was the first glimpse we had into the New 52 world. It went on to sell over 250,000 copies and reached a 4th printing due to such a high demand. The time has come for the second issue to finally hit our shelves after seven weeks of waiting, was it worth the wait?

The highlight of this issue for me was the punch up between our heroes, especially Superman & Flash (if you can call what Superman does a punch…). It’s nice to see one more superhero join the roster of the book and especially one that attempts to go toe to toe with the Man Of Steel.
