Leon Williams(I)
- Producer
- Actor
For more than 25 years, Leon Williams has been a working producer of films, documentaries, reality series and plays, in this highly competitive entertainment industry. And he's never lost his energy, enthusiasm and sense of wonder.
"This is the most exciting business that any writer could ever invent or imagine," Leon says. "It's fast and it's tough; actually, it's every cliché of every B Grade movie ever written about Hollywood. But if you stay with it, if you learn to hang on through all the false highs and very real lows and nothing matters more than the joy of writing, you're golden. And so are the possibilities."
Leon recently produced a play by Timothy Burns entitled "Faded Glory", which had it's world premiere at the North Coast Rep, in San Diego, to rave reviews. The play was awarded the prestigious National Endowment of the Arts Creative Writing Award. For more information, click here.
In addition, Leon serves, regularly, as a story consultant to various other producers, studio executives, agents, managers, production companies, independent financiers and filmmakers. He both assists in finding specific material they are requesting or, very selectively, brings them projects worthy of their attention.
Can you "handle the Truth"?
But it's his love of story-telling and his desire to guide and mentor talented newcomers that has remained a constant force in Leon's life. Enjoying 13 years and reading 10,000 scripts, as a leading judge at the prestigious Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting, he helped launch the careers of many stand-out writers and refine and define many more.
When you see a doctor, about your up-coming appendectomy, don't you ask how many appendectomies he has performed? When you see a Script Consultant about your script...
...well, who would you choose?
"I know the American film industry will remain the dominant force, in the entertainment world, as long as we teach our new writers how to navigate the minefields of the marketplace." Leon says. "But it has to be an honest, realistic evaluation of their work followed by a very strategic career plan. I have no time for catering or coddling, no time for ego-stroking."
But there's always time to offer his vast experience and laser-focused analytic skills to beginning writers who seek his guidance.
