October 10 Could Be Battlefield 6 Day After EA Drops the Ball on Twitter
Image
Is EA leaking Battlefield 6 stuff on purpose, or are we really lucky enough to get all these details? In case you hadn’t heard yet, the official Battlefield account on X(formerly Twitter) accidentally confirmed the official release date for Battlefield 6 to be October 10 in a post that was instantly deleted.

Aside from that, we’ve also gotten a leak of a snippet of what we might see later today from the official Multiplayer reveal for the game. The leaked trailer also seems to confirm this October 10 date, and with the amount of leaks we’ve seen at this point, it really could be intentional. Props to EA if it is, though. This is the kind of marketing that we like to see.

So, Is Battlefield 6 Really Just Coming Out on October 10?

The deleted tweet hasn’t been the only “crack” in EA’s not-so-secret marketing plan. A portion of...

Why You Should Take Battlefield 6’s Leaked August 10 Release Date With a Massive Pinch Of Salt
Image
We’ve gotten official confirmation that Battlefield 6 is getting a reveal trailer tomorrow on July 24. But what about its release date? Well, there’s a leaked release date of August 10 going around, but we don’t think you should believe that. Why? For a couple of different reasons, really.

We’ve also gotten a recent rumor from a known datamine group that the release date is actually in October. If you think about it, the later date makes much more sense. So let’s see why you should take this rumored August release date with a massive pinch of salt. Because all the signs point to it being nothing more than a placeholder.

It’s More Likely That Battlefield 6 Launches in October or November

A placeholder date is a temporary date that companies and studios use for listings, usually on platforms like storefronts, databases, or game libraries. This is usually...

The Grossest ‘Royal Tenenbaums’ Joke Wasn’t a Special Effect
Image
Rushmore director Wes Anderson isn’t known for being the most disgusting filmmaker around. Unless, of course, you’re grossed out by the sight of vintage tweed and/or perfectly symmetrical pastel-colored objects. But one moment in Anderson’s widely-beloved third movie, The Royal Tenenbaums, is pretty icky. Not Cronenberg-levels of gnarly, mind you, but memorably unpleasant nonetheless.

In a flashback, we see that Chas (the character played as an adult by Ben Stiller) was shot in the hand by his own father during a Bb gun fight. When he protests that they’re supposed to be on the same team, Royal shouts back: “There are no teams!” Narrator Alec Baldwin then informs us that “the Bb was still lodged between two knuckles in Chas’ left hand.”

During a confrontation with his father, Chas shows Royal that the Bb is, in fact, still visible underneath his skin, prompting him to poke at it.

Playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Online in 2025 Is Easier Than You Think
Image
2010’s Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is widely regarded as one of the best games in the Battlefield series because of its exceptional single-player and engaging multiplayer modes. The game set the foundation of the Battlefield franchise, but unfortunately, a few bad decisions led to the creation of Battlefield 2042. Since the game offers an underwhelming experience, most Battlefield fans still play old games to reminisce about the good old days.

In 2023, the game’s online support officially ended and was removed from digital storefronts. However, there is still a way to experience Bad Company 2‘s online multiplayer in 2025, and it’s quite simple.

How to play Battlefield: Bad Company 2 in 2025?

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 offered an exciting multiplayer experience, which can be experienced in 2025 through Project Rome. Unfortunately, this is only possible if players already own a legit version of Bad Company 2, as Venice Unleashed’s Project Rome is basically a mod for...

24 Years Ago, EA Created a Video Game That Blurred the Line Between Reality and the Virtual
Image
Let’s be honest: sometimes, video games tend to fail. It’s a part of the industry; even beloved franchises can eventually fall into this trap. However, it seems like Electronic Arts (EA) is a publisher that loves to destroy video game franchises under its wing. Seriously, its entire history is filled with destroying some of the greatest franchises and turning them into horror stories.

Considering the chaos EA has caused and continues to cause in the gaming industry, it’s not a surprise that it’s one of the most hated companies on the planet. Seeing its logo on a game cover is enough to raise red flags for many gamers. However, EA wasn’t always a shipwreck like it is today. Nearly 24 years ago, the publisher gave us a game that pushed the boundaries of immersion in a digital world.

This is one of EA’s finest creations ever,...

Outclassing a 9-Year-Old Game Might Be EA’s Biggest Challenge with Battlefield 6
Image
It’s fair to say that the last couple of years haven’t been kind to the Battlefield franchise. The release of 2042 proved to be a disappointment as it ditched many fan-favorite features, maps, and modes. Although these issues were fixed, the game left a lasting impression on fans. That’s why there’s a lot of pressure on the upcoming Battlefield 6.

Based on everything we’ve seen so far, EA and Dice are going all out with Battlefield 6. It’s supposed to be the franchise’s return to form, taking it back to its golden days. While things do seem promising, there’s a chance that Battlefield 6 might not survive against one of EA’s own Fps games that broke records left and right: Battlefield 1.

Outdoing Battlefield 1 will prove to be a big task for Battlefield 6

It’s been almost a decade since the release of Battlefield 1, and it...

Yes, After Canceling Black Panther, EA Is Still Making Three Marvel Games Including Iron Man
Image
Electronic Arts (EA) may have canceled its Black Panther project and shut down Cliffhanger Games recently, but the publisher has confirmed that it isn’t walking away from it's partnership with Marvel. Both EA and Marvel have confirmed that their multi-title partnership is still alive and well, with at least three Marvel games planned beginning with the highly anticipated Iron Man game that is being developed at Motive Studio.

This confirmation was after the disappointing announcement of Cliffhanger Games shutting down, the team formerly developing Black Panther. Originally announced as the second of a three-game deal between EA and Marvel signed back in 2023, the cancellation sparked concern among fans and onlookers about the future of the collaboration. However, both companies quickly clarified their continued commitment to the partnership.

"Our partnership with Marvel remains strong and our multi-title, long-term collaboration continues," said EA Entertainment president Laura Miele in a statement to IGN.

Black Panther Is Out, but EA’s 3-Game Deal With Marvel Is Still Locked and Loaded
Image
Gamers were treated to some rather unfortunate news recently, wherein Electronic Arts announced the cancellation of its in-development Black Panther game. This game has been entirely scrapped, which is a shame since it looked really interesting.

Thankfully, EA does seem to be on track to release more Marvel-licensed video games, which include a yet unnamed Iron Man title. The news sits in stark contrast to the ongoing cancellations, but is still considerably ‘good’ news.

Marvel confirms that its 3-game agreement with Electronic Arts is still a go

For the uninitiated, Electronic Arts recently announced that both the unreleased Black Panther game and its developer, Cliffhanger Games, have been entirely shut down, with all of its projects in the pipeline being canned indefinitely.

Black Panther | Something rather worrying is happening in the videogame industry
Image
As EA cancels its Black Panther videogame, it begs the question: if big franchises aren’t safe, what does it mean for the rest of the industry?

In the expensive, upside-down world of the triple-a games industry, projects get cancelled all the time. Studios with familiar-sounding names close without fanfare. People regularly lose their jobs with little apparent notice.

A pair of recent cancellations at Electronic Arts and Warner Bros feel rather different, however. In late May, it was announced that EA has scrapped its long-in-the-works Black Panther game, and has closed the studio making it, Cliffhanger. It’s a decision which could affect dozens if not hundreds of employees.

The announcement came roughly three months after Warner Bros decided to cancel a high-profile superhero game of its own: Wonder Woman was scrapped in February, and Monolith Productions, the respected studio behind Shadows Of Mordor and more besides, died with it.

Marvel project officially cancelled despite fan anticipation
Image
There was a time when any big Marvel project seemed like the safest of bets. Fans would be excited regardless of whether the Marvel Cinematic Universe was launching an anticipated theatrical movie or if a video game studio was working on a title featuring an iconic character from the franchise. All eyes were set on what the superhero giant would do next, and everyone wanted to be a part of it. However, things have been a bit more shaky over the last few years.

The MCU has cancelled acclaimed projects, shifted its plans, and lost its long-standing impeccable critic record with the arrival of its fourth phase. On the other hand, the superhero video game industry suffered the moment Marvel's Avengers failed to meet expectations, forever tarnishing the image of other upcoming titles such as Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Now, amidst speculation, a highly anticipated video game has been...

Black Panther Action-Adventure Game Canceled As EA Closes Cliffhanger Games
Image
Electronic Arts has undergone another round of layoffs, shuttering one of its studios and canceling another highly anticipated project. IGN reports that EA's upcoming Black Panther game has been scrapped as Cliffhanger Games, the studio developing it, has been shuttered.

The untitled Black Panther game was first announced back in 2023. Not much has been shared about the game in the years since, though it was billed as an open-world, third-person, single-player action-adventure set in Wakanda.

The game was being developed at Cliffhanger Games, a newly formed triple-a development studio based in Seattle, made up of industry veterans who had worked on some of the world's biggest game franchises. Former Monolith Productions studio head Kevin Stevens, who oversaw the development of the Middle-earth games, was directing the Black Panther game alongside veterans with experience on franchises like Halo, God of War, and Call of Duty.

Despite knowing little about the game,...

PS5 Pro May be Wooing EA Fans With Rumored Battlefield 6 120 Fps Feature
Image
Sony unveiled the PS5 Pro in November 2024, bringing several improvements over the base console. It introduces a 45% faster Gpu, AI-driven upscaling technology, and new ray-tracing capabilities.

While fans were initially hyped about Sony’s latest console, its $700 price tag pushed many away. Players are still skeptical that the upgrade is worth it. However, it seems like Sony is now trying to catch the attention of Battlefield 6 fans by providing an exclusive 120 Fps mode, a first in the famed series.

Battlefield might run at 120 Fps on PS5 Pro

Battlefield Labs has proven itself as a source of buzz among fans of EA’s shooter franchise in recent weeks. EA has invited a select group of players to take part in the playtest program. As a result, we’ve received tons of information about the upcoming Battlefield 6, including some leaked footage.

New reports from MP1ST suggest that Battlefield 6 will support 120 Fps on PlayStation 5 Pro.

“I’m a big fan of…”: Next Battlefield Game Draws Heavy Inspiration From a Taylor Sheridan Series
Image
The Battlefield franchise has faced a lot of high points, but also some soul-crushing lows. It was the premier Fps franchise in the late 2000s and early 2010s. However, everything came crashing down with Battlefield 2042, which is regarded as the worst entry in the franchise.

Even though Dice has brought massive updates and refinements to 2042, it still hasn’t hit the mark for fans of the franchise. So, there’s a lot at stake with the release of Battlefield 6. EA has brought together multiple studios to support the development, and the game is undergoing extensive testing right now.

What might shock you is that the developers have also drawn inspiration from one of Taylor Sheridan’s television series to ensure Battlefield 6 is a success.

EA CEO on Battlefield 6: We’re Doing the “Biggest playtesting in franchise history” Because Even We Know We Don’t Always “Get it right”
Image
Electronic Arts is doubling down on transparency and community involvement for Battlefield 6. We all know the franchise hasn’t lived up to expectations in recent years, and EA knows that too. This new effort seems to be to regain trust and excitement around Battlefield, and it might just work.

EA Promises It Won't Be Increasing Game Prices, Even If Others Might Be
Image
During the latest earnings call for publisher EA, the company confirmed that game prices for their titles will not be increased for now, even with other companies increasing their prices. Xbox recently bumped up the prices of its consoles and is set to enact a price hike of some of its first-party games to $80 this holiday season. In April, the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal brought along an $80 Mario Kart World, which shocked many and may have been the catalyst for companies to begin charging more for games.

As reported by Eurogamer, EA CFO Stuart Canfield stated there will be "no changes in the current strategy at this point" when it comes to the pricing of EA-published games. CEO Andrew Wilson responded to a question about whether the company would follow the precedent set by Xbox and Nintendo, and stated that "pricing power" is quite different today than it was a decade...

Battlefield Finds A Launch Window For Next Game After GTA 6 Delay
Image
The currently untitled new Battlefield game now has a launch window, benefiting from last week's announcement that GTA 6 will be delayed until May 2026. Purportedly, a lot of game publishers were refusing to commit to a 2025 release date until GTA 6 had one. Now that GTA 6 is out of the picture for 2025 and an exact release date has been set for May 26, 2026, it seems like other publishers are strategically deciding when to release their own games to avoid competing with the juggernaut that is the GTA IP.

As reported by Vgc, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson has confirmed the new Battlefield game, colloquially known as Battlefield 6, will release by March 2026, with a full game reveal this summer. The information came during a company's financial results meeting, with Wilson giving the release window.

After the meeting, a Q&a session took place; one caller asked about how the rest of the games industry...

“It never broke into top 20 on steam”: Assassin’s Creed Shadows vs Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Which Game Did Worse?
Image
Ubisoft and EA have both had a rough time with their latest Aaa RPGs, Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. We’ve seen that both games had solid launches in some respects, but neither has managed to meet expectations, either in player engagement or in critical reception.

While Assassin’s Creed Shadows managed to break a record for the franchise, it failed to crack Steam’s top 20. The Veilguard was weighed down by corporate meddling and being lackluster. But which game truly performed worse?

Both Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Dragon Age: The Veilguard have missed the mark

Ubisoft had high hopes for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and in some ways, it delivered. The game set a new peak player record for the series on Steam and we even saw it surpassing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey‘s all-time player count.

Disney Is Reportedly Auditioning Potential Candidates For The CEO Position
Image
Disney is preparing for another pivotal leadership transition as longtime CEO Bob Iger plans to retire—this time permanently—in December 2026. Iger has guided Disney for most of the last 20 years, briefly stepping away once before ultimately returning to steady the company through challenging times. Now, he’s assured that he’s ready to pass the baton. His reluctance last time led to stories of conflict with his first successor Bob Iger.

Bloomberg reports that candidates are being “auditioned” for the job.

Though internal candidates have not officially auditioned for the role, recent public appearances by key Disney executives have placed the spotlight squarely on possible successors. Entertainment co-chair Dana Walden recently addressed investors at a Morgan Stanley conference, emphasizing the profitability of Disney’s streaming services—an effort to address concerns about her experience with Wall Street.

Similarly, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, appeared at...

“There has to be a balance”: Split Fiction Studio Will Never Make a Live Service Game Because Game Director Does Not “believe in them”
Image
The live service trend has been growing within the gaming industry in recent years. Even with stories of big successes and failures, not every developer is eager to follow this trend. Josef Fares, founder of Hazelight Studios and director of It Takes Two and Split Fiction, has made it clear that his studio will never create a live service game.

BioWare Devs Were Reportedly So Burnt Out They Wanted One Game to Fail to Make the Studio Realize “This isn’t the right way to make games”

However, BioWare has been in a rough spot in recent years. The studio’s recent titles, such as Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem, have proven to be massive failures.

“The audience is still there”: Larian’s Policy of Making a Single Player Game is Something That EA Needs to Follow With Dragon Age

EA CEO Misses Again, as Dragon Age: The Veilguard a Failure Due to ‘Lack of Live-Service’
Image
Dragon Age: The Veilguard has had a surprisingly disappointing run since its release in October 2024 with Bioware’s bold new take on the well-established franchise failing to achieve the results that the studio had originally envisioned.

In the wake of its disappointing performance despite an excellent narrative and good reviews of the game, Andrew Wilson, the CEO of Electronic Arts (EA) has offered up his opinions on the subject during a recent quarterly financial call with a statement that suggests that EA may not have approved of pivoting away from live service elements in the game back in 2021.

Dissecting Why Dragon Age: The Veilguard ‘Failed’

It’s well known that Dragon Age: The Veilguard steered away from including live-service elements in its gameplay loop in favor of a more story-driven single-player experience, which seemingly worked in BioWare’s favor when many of the game’s positive reviews were considered.

Electronics Arts Revenue Falls on ‘EA Sports Fc’ Game Spending Weakness
Image
Electronic Arts saw revenue fall to $1.88 billion in its third quarter, compared to a year-earlier $1.94 billion, due in part to weakness in sales for its football game EA Sports Fc and Dragon Age game franchises.

Net income for the quarter was $293 million, just up from $290 million in the third quarter of 2023. But net bookings for the quarter totaled $2.215 billion, down 6 percent from an earlier projected range of $2.4 billion to $2.5 billion for third quarter net bookings.

“Q3 was not the financial performance we wanted, or expected,” Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA, told analysts during a post-market conference call, as he cited the “underperformance” for EA Sports Fc. He added Dragon Age “did not resonate with a broad enough audience in this highly competitive market.”

EA on Tuesday reiterated its net bookings for fiscal 2025 will be around $7 billion to $7.15 billion. That too followed a downwards guidance revision from an earlier forecast of...

Was Glen Powell Already A Screen Sensation Before The Dark Knight Rises & Top Gun Roles? Here’s What We Think
Image
All About Glen Powell’s Big Breaks Before The Dark Knight Rises & Top Gun Roles ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Before Glen Powell looted hearts as a smooth-talking pilot in Top Gun: Maverick or showed up in Gotham in The Dark Knight Rises, he was hustling in Hollywood—but not how you’d predict! Sure, now he’s all about big blockbusters, but his rise to fame was less “instant superstar” and more “slow burn with unexpected pit stops.”

He kicked things off with some blink-and-you’ll-miss-it gigs you probably forgot (or never noticed). But hey, every big star starts somewhere! Those early roles were just stepping stones toward becoming a Hollywood heavy-hitter for Powell. The Twisters star didn’t just waltz into Hollywood as the leading man—he put in the work. From tiny roles in family films to popping up in indie projects, he was grinding, slowly making a name for himself.

With Sims 5 No Longer Coming, EA Needs To Finally Put The Sims On Switch

Nintendo Switch users have wanted a life sim experience akin to The Sims since the console first launched all the way back in 2017. Unfortunately, it never transpired, with not even indie developers offering a similar type of game on the platform. Now that EA has announced that The Sims 5 is not in the works, nor will it be, Nintendo Switch owners are likely to be even more frustrated.

Of course, The Sims 4 still exists, and it is arguably one of the best life sim games ever made. It offers a truly compelling life sim experience, with plenty of expansion packs fleshing it out and adding some much-needed features. Now that Switch owners can no longer hold onto the hope of getting The Sims 5, it is time that EA changed tact and finally ported The Sims 4 and all of its incredible content to Nintendo's handheld.

Bob Iger's Rumored Heir Apparent to Run Disney Is Already Radioactive
Image
Quick Links Gambling Addiction, Fun for the Whole Family? The Man Behind "The Worst Company in America" Andrew Wilson, the Superstar CEO Who Is Immune to Scandal

As Disney Chief Executive Officer Robert Iger's departure nears, speculation concerning who will replace him intensifies, everyone in the corporate world scrambling to email their resums to Burbank. Expect his exit no earlier than 2026 when his contract ends. Iger's fill-in will be tasked with overseeing a listless Star Wars universe, the MCU (pretty much just Deadpool at this juncture), a back catalog of animated films, and some miscellaneous franchises like Willow and Indiana Jones inherited from the George Lucas deal. Also, there will be the matter of maintaining a stable online streaming platform, not to mention the massive theme park system. It's less an entertainment company than a lifestyle brand, and Disney is at a major crossroads.

Robert A. Iger at an event for Brave (2012)
Disney | EA boss Andrew Wilson said to be in contention to replace Bob Iger
Robert A. Iger at an event for Brave (2012)
As Disney looks for a successor to replace outgoing boss Bob Iger, EA CEO Andrew Wilson is one big name now in the mix.

Who will lead The Walt Disney Company into the murky future? It’s a question the entertainment juggernaut has asked itself for some months now, as its current CEO Bob Iger plans to retire in just over a year’s time.

Netflix head honcho Ted Sarandos has downplayed rumours that he might be in the running. But according to a new report, there’s an unexpected new name in the mix: Andrew Wilson, currently the CEO of Electronic Arts – one of the biggest companies in the videogames industry.

This comes from a reputable source, too: the Wall Street Journal (via IGN) has sources which suggest that Wilson’s name has been floated among Disney board members in recent months. It’s also said that two other...

Disney CEO Succession Process To Officially Include Outside Candidates
Image
Disney’s process to identify CEO Bob Iger’s successor will officially include external candidates as well as four current executives.

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday morning on the deliberations extending to outsized candidates.

One particular outsider, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson, was called out in the Journal report and pictured prominently in a photo. When asked by Deadline if that treatment reflected Wilson’s status as a leading candidate in the derby, a Disney rep declined to comment.

Many observers have long assumed that both internal and outside executives would be in the mix. Wilson has been connected with Disney in recent years, interviewing for the ESPN Chairman post now occupied by Jimmy Pitaro and also taking part in merger discussions with Disney. The media company was considering an acquisition of video game giant EA during the relatively brief and bumpy tenure of Iger’s previous successor, Bob Chapek,...

Bob Iger to Step Down as Disney CEO, Successor to Be Announced in Early 2026
Image
Bob Iger was appointed president of Disney in 2000 and succeeded Michael Eisner as CEO in 2005, serving in that role until his contract expired in 2020. He then became executive chairman until his formal retirement on December 31, 2021. Even after his departure, Iger remained an advisor to his successor.

However, at the request of Disney’s board of directors, Iger returned as CEO on November 20, 2022, following the unexpected and immediate dismissal of his successor, Bob Chapek. In July 2023, Disney extended Iger’s contract through 2026.

Disney’s board plans to announce a new CEO to succeed Bob Iger in early 2026, though speculation about potential candidates has already begun.

To assist in the search, Disney has enlisted the headhunting firm Heidrick & Struggles to identify outside candidates, with three potential frontrunners already under consideration. Among them is Andrew Wilson, the CEO of Electronic Arts, according to the Wall Street Journal. Variety has confirmed that Wilson is being evaluated,...

Iger was named president of Disney in 2000 and succeeded Michael Eisner as CEO in 2005 until his contract expired in 2020. He then was executive chairman until his formal retirement from the company on December 31, 2021. After his exit from the company, Iger continued as an advisor to his successor.

Now, Disney’s board plans to announce a new CEO to replace Bob Iger in early 2026, but speculation about who it might be has already started.

Disney Expands CEO Search to External Candidates, Including EA’s Andrew Wilson
Image
Disney is considering taking a look outside of the Magic Kingdom for Bob Iger’s successor, with Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson among external candidates being floated for the top job, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The outlet reported that Disney is working with recruiters from Heidrick & Struggles in its review of external candidates, with at least two more possible candidates identified.

Representatives for Disney and Wilson did not immediately return TheWrap’s request for comment.

The search for Iger’s successor is being led by outgoing Morgan Stanley executive James Gorman, who is set to become the entertainment giant’s board chairman starting Jan 2, 2025. Gorman, who joined as Disney’s succession planning committee chair in August, has said a successor for Iger will be announced in early 2026. Iger’s contract is set to expire at the end of 2026.

In addition to considering outsiders, Disney’s board is also...

“I don’t think anything lives forever”: Steve Ferreira Was Afraid Apex Legends 2 and Sequels Would Force Them to Shut Down the Live Game
Image
Apex Legends has remained one of the most resilient live-service games on the market, but Respawn’s development team knows that sustaining a game of this nature isn’t easy. With new content and updates being a necessity, the game has now hit its five-year mark and is currently in its 23rd season.

But in an age of sequels, Respawn and EA have chosen different for Apex. For game director Steve Ferreira, creating an Apex Legends 2 has always been less of a goal and more of an “anti-vision.” Both Respawn and EA seem set on focusing on innovative, incremental updates rather than a full reboot.

EA and Respawn Have A Different Approach to Apex Legends‘ Future

Rather than build a sequel, Respawn’s team is actively working to maintain Apex Legends’ longevity by focusing on quality over quantity.

Apex Legends Follows Valorant and Fortnite to Manage Anti-Cheating But That Comes at a Great Cost
Image
Cheating is a big issue in the world of gaming. And Apex Legends is not an exclusion. This highly popular battle royale has garnered a huge fanbase because of its exciting gameplay and various characters with their abilities. The only persisting issue that the game is facing right now is the infestation of cheaters and hackers all around the game.

Electronic Arts Revenue Rises on Football Video Game Strength
Image
Video game company Electronic Arts saw revenue rise to $2.02 billion in its second quarter, up 6 percent on a year-earlier $1.9 billion, on the strength of American football video game sales expansion.

EA posted net income at $294 million, or $1.11 per share, compared to a year-earlier net income at $399 million, or $1.47 per share. The company saw its latest results come out amid steady demand for video games globally after a boom during pandemic-era lockdowns.

EA reported $2.07 billion in total net bookings for the past three months, a record for the second financial quarter and up 14 percent from year-earlier net bookings at $1.82 billion. The company said its American football sports video game series was on track to surpass $1 billion in net bookings for full year 2025. That’s after total hours of football game play rose in the second quarter 140 percent year-over-year.

“Just drop a remaster”: Battlefield is Still to be Topped in its Destructible Environments, and Years On It Has Us Wondering What Went Wrong With the Franchise
Image
There’s no doubt that the Battlefield franchise has gone through various changes since its initial release back in 2002. As the long-running competitor to Call of Duty, Battlefield managed to make a name for itself thanks to its embrace of realism in the gameplay.

Unfortunately, the last couple of years have proven to be a nightmare for the franchise. The recent entries in the franchise have met with less than stellar feedback.

However, EA could still turn the ship around and bring back the series to its glory days by perhaps dropping a Battlefield remaster, which features what made it famous in the first place: destructible environments.

Environmental destruction has been a big talking point in the gaming world after the release of The Finals, as it served as a reminder of how epic destructible environments can prove to be in video games.

“One of the most ambitious projects in our history”: EA CEO Promises an Incredible Battlefield Experience, and We’re Starting to Believe It
Image
There’s no doubt that the Battlefield franchise has gone through tons of changes since the first game was released way back in 2002. As the competitor to Call of Duty, the franchise has managed to stand on its own. However, the recent entries in the franchise haven’t quite hit the mark.

After the disappointing start of 2042, many players had lost faith in Electronic Arts (EA) and believed that the franchise was done entirely for. However, EA is beginning to up the heat around the next Battlefield, with the company’s CEO bragging that it’s one of the most ambitious projects to date.

During EA’s latest earnings report, the company gave a couple more details about the Battlefield franchise, the next installment that’s being developed at Dice, and other supportive studios like Motive and Ripple Effect.

“All of the talent has gone from Dice now”: Battlefield Fans Aren’t Excited Over the Prospect of Bad Company 3

While the Battlefield series lost its charm with its 2021 release, that doesn’t mean players have forgotten what it gave to the military shooter genre. One of the series spin-offs, Bad Company, gained a cult following after the release and it still feels like the franchise should’ve been concluded as a trilogy.

Maybe that’s why the conversations for it are still alive, as some fans were recently seen debating and going nostalgic over the spin-off. The first game was released in 2008 that also made use of the studio-developed engine Frostbite. It gave a new definition to destructible environments.

“Do they not see the negativity”: Fans Can Not Believe EA CEO Wants to Put Ads in Video Games For Profit
Image
Electronic Arts (EA) is reportedly developing a strategy to incorporate advertisements into their Aaa-rated games. During EA’s recent earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson expressed that having in-game advertisements in Aaa Titles has a very huge growth rate opportunity for the company. The main decisive point of this statement is the introduction of advertisements into games that users have already purchased.

The concept of in-game ads isn’t new, the challenge lies in moderating them to avoid disrupting gameplay. EA has been testing ad placements in games such as UFC 4, Need for Speed Carbon, and Battlefield 2142 which they faced some backlash from fans.

“Don’t talk for us devs, please”: From Playing the New Battlefield to Making Sweeping AI Announcements, EA’s CEO is P**sing Off Other Devs After Arkane and Tango Closures

Star Wars videogame cancelled as EA lays off 670 employees
Laura Miele
Apex Legends developer Respawn has had its Star Wars first-person shooter cancelled, as publisher EA makes huge job cuts across its studios.

If anything, 2024 is beginning to look like an even more depressing year for the videogame industry, as the number of job losses continues.

Electronic Arts is the latest company to announce major cuts, with the publishing giant stating that it’s to cut some 670 roles – equating to roughly five percent of its staff.

Numerous studios and projects have been affected by these cuts. Among them is Respawn Entertainment, which was working on a first-person shooter set in the Star Wars universe. According to Vgc, that project has been cancelled – it’s not clear whether this was the Mandalorian title rumoured a matter of weeks ago, or something separate.

Given just how well-received Respawn’s other games have been though – not least the Star Wars Jedi titles – the cancellation is particularly surprising.

Electronic Arts Plans Layoffs Of Five Percent Of Workforce, Cancels ‘Star Wars’ Game
Image
Electronic Arts, which makes such games as Madden NFL and Apex Legends, said today that it plans to lay off five percent of its employees and will discontinue work on several games.

The announcement continues the ongoing downsizing in the gaming and tech space, a development that has seen thousands of jobs lost.

EA said the layoffs are part of a broader restructuring aimed at supporting “strategic priorities and growth initiatives,” according to a Tuesday securities filing. EA said in that document that it also plans to reduce its office space footprint.

Last year, EA sliced 800 employees, while Epic Games cut 830 jobs in September. In January, Tencent’s Riot Games said it would lay off 11% of its workforce and Microsoft said it would cull 1,900 jobs from its Activision Blizzard and Xbox gaming divisions.

On Tuesday, Sony said on Tuesday it would cut 8% of its global workforce, amounting to around 900 jobs.

Electronic Arts Cancels Upcoming ‘Star Wars’ Game, Plans to Cut More Than 650 Jobs

Video game publishing giant Electronic Arts is the latest gaming company to slash its workforce.

The company announced the restructuring plan Wednesday, telling employees that it would be shedding about 5 percent of its workforce, or more than 650 jobs.

“While not every team will be impacted, this is the hardest part of these changes, and we have deeply considered every option to try and limit impacts to our teams,” EA CEO Andrew Wilson wrote in a memo to staff.

“Given how and where we are working, we are continuing to optimize our global real estate footprint to best support our business,” Wilson added. “We are also sunsetting games and moving away from development of future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in our changing industry. This greater focus allows us to drive creativity, accelerate innovation, and double down on our biggest opportunities — including our owned IP, sports,...
