- Flo Wilson was born on 11 February 1963 in Manchester, England. She began her acting career at age 21 with Pit Prop Theatre Company, a radical company that set out to challenge many of the assumptions and attitudes prevalent in society. For example, productions were inspired by the miners' strike of 1984-85, the anti-apartheid movement and racial prejudice. Pit Prop was particularly active in the theatre-in-education movement, touring schools and community theatres.
Following a sabbatical from 2001 to 2006, Flo Wilson has since gone on to have an extensive career in theatre Some of her most recent productions were The Visit and Small Island at The National Theatre (2020 and 2022 respectively), The Tempest and Henry V at the Shakespeare Rose Theatre in York (2019), Oliver Twist at Hull Truck (2018) [the first black, female Fagin], Talking Heads - A Woman of No Importance at Leeds Playhouse (2018) and The Secret Garden at York Theatre Royal (2018).
Recent film and TV includes Jellyfish and Lobster (2023, NFTS) in which she starred as 'Grace' and was shown at the NFTS Graduate Showcase at the BFI, Coronation Street (ITV), The Peter Kay Thing (C4), The Mill (ITV), Sanditon (ITV/PBS, 2022-23) and most recently, Emmerdale (ITV) where she features as Claudette Anderson.
