Amazon’s Most Talked-About Show Just Dropped a Huge Season 3 Reveal
Image
Amazon just dropped some big news about The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The show’s third season has officially started production, and the announcement came with a short teaser showing none other than Sauron’s crown, setting the tone for what’s coming next.

A post shared by The Lord of the Rings on Prime (@theringsofpower)

The new season is set years after the events of Season 2 and takes place during the intense war between the Elves and the Dark Lord Sauron.

This is when Sauron is crafting the One Ring, the key to gaining ultimate control over Middle-earth. The series is inspired by the appendices of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and dives deep into the Second Age, a time long before Frodo, Aragorn, or the Fellowship.

Amazon Studios is teaming up again with New Line Cinema...

Netflix's Biggest New TV Show This Week Gets A Seal Of Approval On Rotten Tomatoes
Image
The Hunting Wives, a new mystery drama series, has made its debut on Netflix with an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score. Created by Rebecca Cutter, the series follows Sophie, a Massachusetts native who moves to Maple Brook, Texas, for her husband's job. She soon finds herself tied up with a group of wealthy socialites, who hide dark secrets behind their affluent exterior.

Originally set to be released on Starz, Netflix bought the rights to The Hunting Wives in June 2025 and released the eight-episode series on July 21, 2025. Since its debut, The Hunting Wives has already achieved a strong score of 70% on Rotten Tomatoes and has been praised for the performances and the screenplay.

The Netflix series is adapted from the 2021 novel by May Cobb, best known for her works including My Summer Darlings (2022) and The Hollywood Assistant (2024). The Hunting Wives stars Brittany Snow as Sophie, and the cast also includes stars such as Malin Akerman,...

Netflix’s 'The Eternaut' Debuts With World-Saving Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
The first reviews for the new Netflix post-apocalypse series, The Eternaut, have now started to emerge, and the series now has enough data to produce a rating on Rotten Tomatoes. So, does the streamer have its own The Last of Us? Or is The Eternaut another Netflix series destined to be forgotten within the merciless algorithm?

The series, which centers on a group of survivors after a deadly snowstorm kills millions, has now debuted with a seriously promising score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. So, while The Eternaut doesn’t quite reach the critically acclaimed heights of The Last of Us’ 95% on the review aggregator site, it certainly promises to be a thrilling companion piece. Screen Rant’s Nick Bythrow awarded the series an impressive rating of 8/10, praising the Netflix adaptation’s modernization of Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López’s comic and creating a show that’s “perfect for sci-fi fans.

Tom Petty’s Keyboardist Benmont Tench Is Ready for His Spotlight
Image
It’s a little more than a decade since Benmont Tench released his debut solo LP, You Should Be So Lucky, but for the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist, it feels like a lifetime ago. There’s been a lot of joy in the intervening years, most notably his 2015 marriage to Alice Carbone Tench, and the birth of their daughter, Catherine. But he also endured the sudden death of Petty just seven days after the conclusion of their 2017 tour, and a recent battle with oral cancer.

Along the way,...

'The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep' Spin-off Lands Divisive Reviews & Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
The Witcher is back on Netflix, and it's as divisive as ever. Sirens of the Deep is the latest anime offering from the world of The Witcher, hoping to achieve the same success as 2021's Nightmare of the Wolf. Unfortunately, Sirens of the Deep has instead embodied the spirit of the live-action The Witcher series, which once starred Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia (with Liam Hemsworth set to replace him), by ushering in some incredibly mixed opinions and reviews.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is now streaming on Netflix and currently holds a 64% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie is very loosely based on the short story "A Little Sacrifice" by Andrzej Sapkowski, and follows Geralt as he attempts to stop a war between an undersea kingdom of mer-people and a coastal city. While Sirens of the Deep was a middling success with critics, general audiences haven't...

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has a (mostly) new writing team for season 3
Image
The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power wrapped up last week, and despite the show being uneven and playing fast and loose with the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, it was mostly a good time. Amazon Prime Video hasn't confirmed whether we'll get a third season, but showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay clearly have plans for more, and both the cast and crew sound optimistic.

In fact, Payne and McKay have already assembled a writers room for season 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter, so track is being laid. That room includes Justin Doble, Ben Tagoe, Ava Wong Davies, Constance Cheng, Jonathan Wilson, Griff Jones and Sarah Anson.

Interestingly, apart from Doble, this room doesn't include anyone who wrote previous episodes of The Rings of Power. Over the course of the first two seasons, writers like Gennifer Hutchison, Jason Cahill, Stephany Folsom, Nicholas Adams, Helen Shang,...

What’s Keeping Grace Cummings Alive This Time
Image
It’s a cloudy May afternoon in New York’s Greenwich Village as Grace Cummings saunters down Jones Street. The Melbourne–based singer-songwriter, who titled her new album Ramona after Bob Dylan’s “To Ramona,” then pauses positively at West Fourth Street for a photo in the same spot where Dylan posed with Suze Rotolo six decades earlier for the Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan sleeve. Cummings’ jeans are paler than Dylan’s were, and her smile is broader as she studies the rufescent buildings and fire escapes that still adorn the street.

Roger Waters Unveils Complete Re-Recording of The Dark Side of the Moon: Stream
Image
Controversial artist Roger Waters is back with a controversial new release: a re-recording of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, made without the involvement of any of the other members of Pink Floyd. Listen to The Dark Side of the Moon Redux below via Apple Music or Spotify.

Beyond giving Waters the opportunity to one-up his estranged bandmates, re-recording one of the most famous albums of all time appeared to give the artist a chance to update its message for modern times, with a matured perspective. “The original Dark Side of the Moon feels in some ways like the lament of an elder being on the human condition,” Waters said in a statement. “But Dave [Gilmour], Rick [Wright], Nick [Mason], and I were so young when we made it, and when you look at the world around us, clearly the message hasn’t stuck. That’s why I started...

Similar to his version of “Money,” Waters slows down and scales back the psychedelic instrumentation of “Time” in order to play a greater emphasis on his vocals. Take a listen below.

The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux was produced by Waters along with Gus Seyffert and features a studio band consisting of Seyffert, Joey Waronker, Jonathan Wilson, Johnny Shepherd, and Jon Carin. Margo Price Announces New Album Strays II
Image
Margo Price has readied a follow-up to her January album Strays, naturally dubbed Strays II. She’ll roll out the sequel project in three acts culminating in a double album due out October 13th, and also embark on a tour of the UK and US this fall. Strays had a pretty mystical origin story involving a psychedelic trip to the South Carolina countryside, and Price wrote some of the music that would become Strays II during the same excursion. Before combining the two projects into a double LP, the nine songs on the second record will initially be shared as three acts known as Topanga Canyon, Mind Travel, and Burn Whatever’s Left.

Out today is Strays II’s Act I: Topanga Canyon, featuring the tracks “Strays,” “Closer I Get (ft. Ny Oh),” and “Malibu (ft.

Angel Olsen Announces New EP Forever Means, Shares “Nothing’s Free”: Stream
Image
If you loved Angel Olsen’s 2022 album Big Time, you’re in luck: the singer-songwriter is issuing a new EP of songs from that project’s recording sessions called Forever Means, and the track “Nothing’s Free” is available to stream now.

Olsen began pondering the definition of “forever” while on the road. “I was somewhere traveling,” she recalled in a statement, “stopped for a few days and wandering the city, and I was thinking ‘what does forever really mean? What are the things I’m seeking in friendship or love, and how can forever be attainable if we’re always changing?’” Ultimately, Olsen decided that “Forever is to remain curious, never letting yourself think you’re finished learning or exploring, while trying also to be kind and honest.”

Out April 14th via Jagjaguwar (pre-orders are ongoing), Forever Means was co-produced and mixed by Jonathan Wilson. While the project’s...

Margo Price Makes Her Own Evolution Part of the Story On ‘Strays’
Image
Nashville singer-songwriter Margo Price has spent the past half-dozen years showing she’s much more than a country artist. In 2016, she debuted with Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, a showcase of throwback honky-tonk and hard-edged drinking songs. The album helped crystallize and capture a rising demand for those throwback Nashville styles at the time, playing a fundamental role in their ongoing resurgence from stars like Chris Stapleton and Tyler Childers.

Since then, she’s broadened her scope of sounds, textures, and genres on each successive record: see the R&b leanings of 2017’s All American Made,...

Angel Olsen’s ‘Big Time’ Is the Album She’s Been Waiting All Her Life to Make

Listening to Angel Olsen’s records used to feel like stumbling into an empty roadside bar and finding the greatest torch singer the world had ever forgotten. She sang about loneliness and mistrust, her voice burning pure and intense whether the guitars were solo-acoustic or electric and in the red. The intimacy of those early LPs made many fans feel like she was staring directly into their souls, creating a level of legend-in-her-own-time acclaim that Olsen herself has sometimes seemed ambivalent about.

Fear Not, Indie Faithful: Father John Misty Season Is Coming Soon

Billy Strings’ new song “In the Morning Light” premieres with a music video that captures both undying love and insufferable loss. It’s a montage of couples, all of them in various stages of their relationships, but one romance stands out as the clip’s centerpiece: an elderly husband and wife in the final days of their time together.

When the wife dies, the widower is haunted by her memory and the physical things she’s left behind: her coffee cup, her pill bottles. Directed by Stephen Kinigopoulos and Running Bear Films,...

‘Promising Young Woman’, ‘Borat’ sequel earn top WGA awards
Image
Virtual ceremony took place on Sunday evening (March 21).

In the latest boost to ascendant campaigns, Emerald Fennell and Sacha Baron Cohen have won top honours at the Writers Guild Of America’s (WGA) awards.

Promising Young Woman writer-director Fennell took the original screenplay award at the virtual 73rd Writers Guild Awards on Sunday (March 21), less than a week after the Focus Features release earned five Oscar nominations including recognition in writing and directing categories.

Baron Cohen led the writing team on Amazon Studios’ Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, whose WGA adapted screenplay win follows Oscar nods for that category and supporting actress.

Carey Mulligan in Promising Young Woman (2020)
‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,’ ‘Promising Young Woman’ Top 2021 Writers Guild Awards: Complete Winners List
Carey Mulligan in Promising Young Woman (2020)
“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” and “Promising Young Woman” were named the best adapted original screenplays of 2021 at the Writers Guild Awards, which took place in a virtual ceremony on Sunday.

While “Promising Young Woman” went into the show with a slight edge over “The Trial of the Chicago 7’ for the original-screenplay award,”Borat” was a decided dark horse in the adapted-screenplay category, whose nominees also included “One Night in Miami,” “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “News of the World’ and “The White Tiger.”

Writers Guild winners in the screenplay categories go on to win Oscars almost two-thirds of the time, although the two awards sometimes differ because the WGA is an award strictly for screenplays for movies that were made under the terms of the guild’s Minimum Basic Agreement, or similar agreements from a number of international guilds.

This year, those restrictions disqualified three Oscar-nominated screenplays: “Minari” in the Original...

2021 WGA Winners: ‘Promising Young Woman,’ ‘Borat 2,’ ‘Ted Lasso,’ ‘The Crown’ Take Top Honors
Image
Before the Indie Spirits, before the Oscars, there are the guilds, and as Hollywood inches its way through a protracted awards season, it’s up to each voting body to dole out their own accolades. On Sunday night, it was time for the writers to shine, as the Writers Guild of America presented their awards for film, television, news, and more, all voted on by fellow writers. For writers, by writers!

As IndieWire’s own Anne Thompson has noted, the WGA’s film nominees are less predictive than an indication of what’s losing and gaining heat, from the missing early 2020 releases “I’m Thinking of Ending Things,” “The King of Staten Island,” and “Da 5 Bloods,” to such surging movies as “Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Sound of Metal,” and “Promising Young Woman,” all of which recently earned Best Picture nods from the Academy.

At the Sunday night event, Emerald Fennell...

2021 Writers Guild of America Awards: Full list of winners (and nominees)
Image
The Writers Guild of America Awards were handed during a virtual ceremony on Sunday, March 21. But don’t base your Oscar predictions on these kudos. Every year a slew of Oscar-nominated scripts are deemed ineligible for consideration here due to guild guidelines. Indeed, over the past 12 years only 80 of the Writers Guild of America Awards nominees have numbered among the 120 screenplays that reaped Academy Awards bids. Scroll down for the 2021 Writers Guild of America Awards winners list.

Our odds predict that “Nomadland” will win Best Adapted Screenplay winner at the Oscars but it was not allowed to compete at the WGA Awards. Neither was another Oscar contender in that category: “The Father.” The guild did match the academy three-for-five in this category, with “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” “One Night in Miami” and “The White Tiger” competing at both. “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “News of the World” round out the guild nominees.

20 Great Asian Films About Prostitutes
Image
The concept of “the prostitute” has been fascinating directors all over the world for quite some time, with the psychosynthesis of the sex professionals drawing as much interest as the opportunity to use the concept as a metaphor for various sociopolitical comments. Despite the fact that such themes always had issues with censorship, an abundance of movies about the subject can be also found in Asian cinema, and particularly in countries like Japan, S. Korea and India.

In this list, we will present 20 of the greatest Asian films about prostitutes in chronological order, with a focus on diversity regarding countries, directors and style of presentation.

1. Gate of Flesh

Mini-militias of prostitutes create their own code to survive in “Gates Of Flesh”, by selling themselves in an organised gang fashion, protecting their turf, of bombed out Tokyo, viciously. This was no time for romanticism, frivolity or even love; this is a brutal game of survival.

10 Great Movies by Kiyoshi Kurosawa
Image
Kiyoshi Kurosawa is a unique case of a filmmaker, even for an industry as diverse as the Japanese one, and not just for his additional roles as a film critic and a professor at Tokyo University of Arts. Starting with Pink Film and low-budget V-cinema, he went on to be nominated for an Oshima Prize at Pia Film Festival, worked with Shinji Somai, and won a scholarship to the Sundance Institute by submitting his original screen play for “Charisma”. This particular achievement allowed him to study in the US despite already being a director for almost ten years, which led him to his first major international success, with “Cure”. The film kickstarted a path that led him to the top of J-horror, with his movies, though, implementing a unique approach, that of the “slow-terror”. Some years later, he re-invented himself as he started to deal with family dramas with particular success,...

Tim Heidecker, Weyes Blood Drop Album Closer ‘Oh How We Drift Away’
Image
Tim Heidecker and Weyes Blood have released “Oh How We Drift Away,” the album closer from their upcoming collaborative project, Fear of Death.

Following the singles “Property,” “Fear of Death” and “Nothing,” “Oh How We Drift Away” fits into the rest of the album’s Bernie Taupin/Elton John writing experiment; Heidecker penned the lyrics to the track and Natalie Mering (a.k.a. Weyes Blood) set them to music. Over swooning violin and piano, Mering sings of a fading friendship: “You can come knocking/I won’t be home.
