Breaking Baz: ‘The Teachers’ Lounge’ Star Leonie Benesch Scrubs In For Medical Feature ‘Late Shift’
Image
German actress Leonie Benesch feels that we’ve been inundated with medical dramas on television that offer unrealistic depictions of what actually occurs in a hospital.

The glamorized flights of fantasy of such shows are a far cry from what Berlin-based Benesch experienced making director Petra Volpe’s feature Late Shift, where she plays Floria, a hard-working staff nurse who works the highly pressurized night duty at a major Swiss hospital.

“Usually, film and television doctors get all the screen time and all the stories and all the credit, whereas in reality, it is nurses that are at the patient’s bed and do the work and actually also do, medically, much more complicated things than we would assume when watching normal emergency room dramas,” she observes.

Late Shift is released by Vertigo in the UK and Ireland this weekend, at a time of great unrest in the health industry.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 22 Gets a Major Shake-Up With New Release Date
Image
Just a couple of months before its fall TV shows start rolling out, ABC decided to shake up its schedule by moving up the release dates of several of its high-profile series. One of them was Grey's Anatomy: the long-running medical series, originally set for an October 16 debut, will now kick off its landmark Season 22 a week early. Fans of the show will return to the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital on October 9. The new season will be spread across 18 episodes, per Deadline.

Even though one week might not seem like much, for fans it makes all the difference in the world. Season 21 of the show ended — in true Grey's Anatomy fashion — on a major cliffhanger. A patient, played by Yellowstone's Piper Perabo, went haywire inside the hospital and threatened to detonate the gas tank. The season ended in an explosion, and so far, we don't know who has survived and who died.

The 15 Best Grey's Anatomy Episodes, Ranked
Image
No other series offers the sheer plethora of possible picks for an episode ranking that "Grey's Anatomy" does — and we do mean that quite literally, as the ABC medical show is the longest non-police primetime drama in American TV history. While other iconic long-runners like "The Simpsons" and "Law & Order" ensure renewability by way of stringent episodicism, all but starting over with fresh new stories each week, what makes "Grey's" such a stunning phenomenon is that it's been going for 21 years and 448 episodes (to say nothing of every spin-off show) with genuine, sustained serialization, and the most character-based approach in all of medical television.

In other words, a ranking of the best-ever "Grey's Anatomy" hours (and occasional two hours) is an exercise in revisitation. These are episodes that have carved out a place in fans' and critics' minds as memory milestones in the way that major life events do.

Image
Grey's Anatomyhas officially been knocked off the top of the Disney+ streaming charts by the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The newly released superhero series' has blown past Grey's Anatomy in terms of overall viewership, although the long-running medical drama still stands firmly at number two on the chart, with the next most popular series, The Simpsons, falling behind it by more than 100 points on Flix Patrol's internal scoring system.

Why Jesse Williams Left ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ After 12 Seasons
Image
Jesse Williams played the beloved Dr. Jackson Avery on Grey’s Anatomy for 12 seasons. He first appeared in the show as a recurring cast member in the fifth season. He was later added to the main cast in the sixth season, where Avery joined Seattle Grace’s residency program with Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang. His exit as a regular cast member from the show came in the 17th season.

Williams later returned to the show for a few guest appearances, most notably in the show’s 400th episode in Season 18 and two episodes in Season 19 to facilitate Ellen Pompeo’s exit. In the show, Williams’ most significant story arc was his on-and-off relationship with Dr. April Kepner, played by Sarah Drew.

Which ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Characters Do You Want to Return for Season 22? (Poll)
Image
We still have a ton of questions about that Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 finale — primarily, who (if anyone) died in that massive gas explosion in the surgical wing — and we’ll have to wait until Season 22 arrives this fall to find out the answers to them. Apart from addressing the finale’s biggest cliffhangers, though, we’re also starting to wonder what else Season 22 might have in store for us. Particularly, will there be any more surprise returnees from seasons past? Season 21 saw the (brief) return of Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) in the season premiere episode to confront Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) about her Alzheimer’s research publication. The season also brought back Sydney Heron (Kali Rocha) to fill in for Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), like she’d done when Miranda was on maternity leave back in the olden days of the show, Season 2. Before that, Season 20 brought back Arizona...

The Newest Season of 'Grey's Anatomy' Is Finally Coming to Netflix
Image
If you don't own a Hulu subscription and were just waiting for the moment when Grey's Anatomy would finally become available on Netflix, you will be glad to know that the wait is almost over. This past week, the streamer announced through social media that the newest season of the long-running medical series is coming to the catalog less than a month after the season finale aired on ABC. You will be able to stream the entire season starting on June 14.

Season 21 of Grey's Anatomy was a season of change. Doctors we came to know and love said goodbye early in the season, and others stopped by for a visit. The most surprising return, however, was Kali Rocha (Man With a Plan). The actor reprised her role as Dr. Sydney Heron, seventeen years after she guest-starred in the series for the last time. Other familiar faces included Jesse Williams (Only Murders in the Building...

T.R. Knight Cried When Returning to the 'Grey's Anatomy' Set
Image
T.R. Knightplayed George "007" O'Malley on the hit show Grey's Anatomyfrom Season 1 until the character's untimely death in Season 6. The beloved character was best friends with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and loved the team he became a resident with at Seattle Grace Hospital, and fans have missed him since the character was killed off. But George has made a few appearances on the show, like when Meredith had Covid-19, and he came to her in a dream. But more recently, Knight returned to the set to watch Chandra Wilson, who plays Miranda Bailey on the series, direct.

Knight was speaking to People about his new Broadway show Stranger Things: The First Shadowwhen he shared how surreal going back to the set of Grey's Anatomy was. “That was interesting because that was revisiting all the sets. That was being back in the space, in the house — which has changed so much.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Delivers Explosive Season 21 Finale Cliffhanger: Meg Marinis On Lives In Danger, Couples At Crossroads, New Cast Addition & More
Image
Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the Season 21 finale of Grey’s Anatomy, “How Do I Live.”

In a signature fashion, the Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 finale put the doctors at Grey Sloan through the wringer.

First, Jenna (Piper Perabo), the distraught mother of 9-year-old Dylan, resorted to extreme measures to try to save her daughter who continued to deteriorate following her brain surgery. Not willing to sit and wait as Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) advised her, Jenna took things into her own hands.

Using a tank with explosive gas from her husband’s work supply as a weapon, she forced Amelia to operate on her daughter to try and fix what didn’t work the first time. Amelia had to go lo-tech, relying on a magnifying glass and her instincts — with Lucas’ (Niko Terho) help — to perform the highly risky surgery. She was eventually joined by Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) for a...

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Boss Breaks Down That Explosive Season 21 Finale Cliffhanger, Meredith’s Surprising Decision
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 21, Episode 18.

“Grey’s Anatomy” ended Season 21 with a heart-stopping finale cliffhanger, leaving the fates of a good chunk of the Grey Sloan doctors hanging in the balance.

Episode 18, titled “How Do I Live,” followed the aftermath of Jo (Camilla Luddington) and Link’s (Chris Carmack) wedding. Tensions rose significantly after Jenna (Piper Perabo), the mother of a young patient of Amelia’s (Caterina Scorsone), sequestered her, Simone (Alexis Floyd) and Lucas (Niko Terho) in an Or and forced her to operate on her daughter while threatening to blow it up with a gas tank.

The hostage situation caught the attention of Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) — who was in the premises with the intention of selling off her shares of the hospital to fund her burgeoning Alzheimer’s research. In typical Meredith fashion, she ended up in the Or herself and helped diffuse the...

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Showrunner Meg Marinis Confirms Your Fears After That Explosive Cliffhanger Finale
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the season 21 finale of Grey’s Anatomy, “How Do I Live.”]

Grey’s Anatomy warned viewers that an explosive finale was coming.

Heading into the season 21 ender, “How Do I Live,” that aired on Thursday night, the ABC medical drama’s official social media account posted two throwback photos of the memorable two-part finale back in season two (“It’s the End of the World” and “As We Know It”). That tense bomb-in-a-body-cavity episode saw Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) with guest stars Christina Ricci and Kyle Chandler trying to keep a bomb lodged in a patients’ chest from exploding.

“Same vibe,” wrote the ABC account.

This time, instead of a bomb, the mother (guest star Piper Perabo) of a child patient who had gone unresponsive after brain surgery brings a highly flammable acetylene tank into the operating room and forces Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) to perform a high-risk surgery to save her daughter. Interns Simone (Alexis Floyd...

A ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Wedding Brings Levi Back & Has Link Singing As EP Meg Marinis Teases Season 21 Finale With 2 Couples Facing Breakups
Image
Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about May 8 episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy “Love You Like a Love Song”

ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy served its signature mix of happiness and heartache in the penultimate Season 21 episode.

Miraculously, Jo (Camilla Luddington) and Link’s (Chris Carmack) wedding went off without a hitch after only four days of preparation. The largest obstacles were Jo finding a way to turn down her future mother- in-law’s questionable makeup artist talent and veil offering and Link struggling with his vows.

Jo’s Bff Levi (former cast member Jake Borelli), flying in from Texas to officiate the wedding, helped her understand where Link’s mom is coming from, while Bailey (Chandra Wilson) assisted Link in the vow-writing process with an unexpected result — Link surprised everyone by singing his vows while strumming a guitar to the delight of fans of Cormack’s Will Lexington from Nashville.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Jo & Link’s Wedding Becomes a Musical Affair
Image
[Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 17, “Love You Like a Love Song.”] There weren’t wedding bells at the wedding of Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) and Atticus Lincoln (Chris Carmack), but there was an entirely different kind of music at play. After Link spent the day stressing over his inability to write meaningful vows for the slapdash ceremony — while Jo tried to keep his mom’s worst blue eyeshadow and borrowed veil instincts at bay — all day, Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) gave him a pep talk and advice to communicate in a way that felt more natural to him. For Link, that meant toting an acoustic guitar to the altar and playing a song that was made just for the occasion. The lyrics for the song were: Strumming this guitar may seem like I don’t know what to say, But I swear I have the answers to the questions of the day.

Why Katherine Heigl's Izzie Stevens Left Grey's Anatomy
Image
Partway through the sixth season of Shonda Rhimes' massive hit "Grey's Anatomy", we see Isobel "Izzie" Stevens, one of the series' original surgical interns played by Katherine Heigl, for the final time. To call Izzie's exit abrupt is ... an understatement. After getting fired from Seattle Grace-Mercy West hospital, Izzie flees, leaving her new husband, Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), behind. When she comes back in "I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked," she suggests that maybe she and Alex can fix things; he tells her that's not possible, and Izzie is never seen or heard from again.

Characters leave "Grey's Anatomy" all the time. Patrick Dempsey's leading man, Dr. Derek Shepherd (often referred to as "McDreamy"), left the series in season 11, Sandra Oh hung up her stethoscope in season 10 when her character, Dr. Cristina Yang, moved to Switzerland, and even the titular Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo,...

'Grey's Anatomy' Welcomes a 'Yellowstone' Star in New Season 21 Images
Image
This week, the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital is opening its doors to receive Yellowstone star Piper Perabo for an extended stay. Unfortunately for her character, though, a long stay for a patient in Grey's Anatomy usually means bad news. In order to tease the new episode and reveal a bit more of what will happen to the new character, ABC unveiled a set of new images from this Thursday's installment of the long-running medical drama.

The images reveal that Perabo won't be the actual patient, but rather her onscreen daughter, played by Sophia Kopera (Bosch: Legacy). Titled "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone," the episode will cover a challenging case handled by Amelia (Caterina Scorsone). The episode synopsis reveals that Amelia will have to perform a high-risk brain surgery on the little girl, and the parents will understandably be concerned. Since Perabo is doing a three-episode arc, we can already suspect...

Ellen Pompeo Won’t Leave ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ as That Makes ‘No Sense’ Financially: Everybody Else Would Make Money ‘From My Hard Work and I Wouldn’t’
Image
Ellen Pompeo has starred in “Grey’s Anatomy” since its debut in 2005, and it sounds like she doesn’t plan to leave the show anytime soon.

Although Pompeo’s character, Meredith Grey, has had less screen time since 2022, she recently shared why she has no intentions of stepping away from the ABC medical drama for good.

“That would make no sense, emotionally or financially. The show was streamed more than a billion times in 2024. More than a billion times,” Pompeo explained to El País. “The companies that own the show and stream the show make a lot of money from our images and our voices and our faces.”

“If I were to walk away completely, everybody gets to make money from my hard work for 20 years and I wouldn’t make any money,” Pompeo added. “To me, it doesn’t make any sense that everybody gets to profit off of my hard work.

As can be seen in the episode promo, available to watch below, the interpersonal drama that has been woven throughout this current season is halted as all medical hands are needed on deck to help with a shocking accident. After the wind picks up outside the hospital, helpfully confirmed to us by Chandra Wilson's Dr. Bailey,...

Grey’s Anatomy Season 22: All We Know About The Renewed Long-Running ABC Show So Far
Image
Is Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 Confirmed? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Grey’s Anatomy is like that one patient who keeps surprising doctors by surviving everything. In this case, it has only survived the TV landscape for 22 seasons. Yep, the medical drama that gave us McDreamy, McSteamy, and more dramatic elevator scenes than we can count is still going strong.

Created by the brilliant Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s has turned emotional scalpel work and wild hospital chaos into an art form in the ever-eventful Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle. For nearly two decades, it’s been equal parts heartbreak, high-stakes surgery, and hallway gossip, and somehow, it still finds fresh ways to keep us hooked.

As the show enters its 22nd season (just let that number sink in), fans can expect more cast shake-ups, shocking twists, and maybe another legacy character dropping in out of nowhere. Whether you’ve been watching since the...

Image
Now that ABC has decided to renew Grey's Anatomyfor another season (the twenty-second) and current showrunner Meg Marinis revealed that Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) will likely be returning for a multi-episode arc, you might wonder if the title character ever really left. During an interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Pompeo addressed her lasting stint on the series and revealed whether she plans to completely exit the medical drama at some point.

Pompeo told Jennifer Hudson that she has no memory of filming the pilot episode 20 years ago, and also said that her real-life husband doesn't watch Grey's Anatomy at all because "he's not interested in all that nonsense." When they got to the success of the series, Pompeo admitted that, much like series creator Shonda Rhimes, she didn't expect the show to make it this far. And now it's reached a point where there is no end in sight for it.

Image
[Warning: The following post contains spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 13, “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”] Well, who could’ve seen this coming? (Sense the sarcasm.) After Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) decided to open up their marriage to spice things up and stop them both from feeling suffocated, they each ran right into the arms of the people they’ve been having flirtmances with. First, Teddy conveniently ran into Dr. Cass Beckman (Sophia Bush), the one who put the idea of opening up her marriage to other flings in her mind in the first place by sharing her own experiences with the same. The encounter was accidental — Teddy was joining Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) on a medical conference trip that Cass just so happened to be attending, too. Then, Owen ran into Nora (Floriana Lima) after she brought a pregnant friend in for help. In both cases, they each had the green light ...
