Mafia Wars Review: A Mob Movie With No Bite
Image
“Mafia Wars” tells the story of a man seeking redemption amid criminal intrigue. Released in 2024 and directed by Scott Windhauser, the film stars Tom Welling as Terry Jacobs, a recently paroled felon who finds himself drawn into an undercover operation to infiltrate one of Italy’s most notorious crime syndicates.

Led by the ruthless Griff, played by Cam Gigandet, this mafia controls much of the country through intimidation and violence. But Terry possesses street smarts and determination that may prove valuable to law enforcement aiming to bring the whole operation down.

The movie wastes little time thrusting viewers into its dark world, starting with Terry’s release from prison after a violent altercation with another inmate. We learn he’s trying to leave his criminal past behind, yet family obligations may force him back into dangerous territory. Soon enough, Terry is reluctantly working with the police as their mole inside Griff’s organization.

‘Cops and Robbers’ DVD Review
Image
Stars: Michael Jai White, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Tom Berenger, Patrick Kilpatrick, Victoria Pratt, Chuck Zito, Gillian White, Randy Wayne | Written and Directed by Scott Windhauser

Cops and Robbers stars Michael Jai White as a hostage negotiator who plays a high stakes game of cat and mouse with a cornered bank robber. As the two men learn each other’s identity, they realise they have a shared past, as estranged brothers do, with scores and grudges to be settled…

Can Micheal Jai White ever get a break? The man had obvious skills, both in acting and martial arts, which we’ve seen in a myriad of his previous films. However lately he seems to have become stuck in a rut of appearing own small cameo roles in films or playing cop roles that don’t show off his skillset. Even when he does get to kick some ass his performance seems stifled.

Death In Texas - Jennie Kermode - 16804
Ronnie Gene Blevins
Billy (Ronnie Gene Blevins) isn't really ready for parole, the panel agrees. Remorseful though he is, he doesn't seem to have fully understood the impact of the crime he committed; he's still at risk of responding to stressful situations with violence. He's allowed out of prison purely on compassionate grounds, because his mother (Lara Flynn Boyle) is dying of liver failure. She hasn't told him, hasn't wanted to worry him. She has only a few months left. It's highly unlikely that a compatible liver will turn up in that time, her doctor says. But if Billy were not concerned about ethics, and had a lot of money, he does know a doctor across the border in Ciudad Juárez...

There are a host of good performances in Scott Windhauser's earnest thriller, but the story and dialogue are so ridiculous that the stars really have their work cut out for them.

Dead Trigger Trailer: Dolph Lundgren Destroys All Zombies
Saban Films has just unleashed the trailer and the poster for Dolph Lundgren shoots thousands of zombies in the undead face flick Dead Trigger. The zombie-action motion picture will be receiving a theatrical and VOD release this May and begins when a mysterious virus kills billions and turns many others into bloodthirsty zombies. From there it's up to once upon a time Frank Castle himself, Captain Walker (Lundgren) to lead an elite team to destroy these undead freaks and save the world.

For those of you out there that might not know, Dead Trigger is based on a zombie-themed first-person survival horror mobile game of the same name developed and first published by Madfinger Games in June 2012 for iOS and Android mobile devices. The game is single-player only. Dead Trigger has over 23 million downloads, on all platforms, and a sequel, fittingly called Dead Trigger 2, was released in 2013. The first-person shooter...

Dolph Lundgren Vs. Zombies in Trailer for the Upcoming Thriller Dead Trigger
We’ve got another zombie movie coming out called Dead Trigger, but what makes this one different from all the others is the fact that it stars Dolph Lundgren!

It’s been great seeing Lundgren appear in some recent mainstream movies, but it’s still always fun to see stars in these smaller, lower budget projects. In this one we get to see him blow away zombies. Here’s the synopsis for Dead Trigger:

A mysterious virus has killed billions and turned many others into bloodthirsty zombies. Unable to stop the virus, the government develops a video game, "Dead Trigger," that mirrors the terrifying events that curse the world.

Dead Trigger was co-directed by Mike Cuff and Scott Windhauser (Cops and Robbers). While this doesn’t look like it’s going to be a good movie, it still will probably be fun to watch.

The movie will be released on May 3rd.

‘The Hurricane Heist’ Blu-ray Review
Stars: Toby Kebbell, Maggie Grace, Ryan Kwanten, Ralph Ineson, Melissa Bolona, Christian Contreras, James Cutler, Ben Cross, Ed Birch | Written by Scott Windhauser, Jeff Dixon | Directed by Rob Cohen

A heist takes place during a hurricane… It’s difficult to imagine a sillier plot outside of Snakes on a Plane, but, like that film, The Hurricane Heist takes its ridiculous premise and runs with it, delivering about as much fun as it’s possible to have with a film this stupid.

Every action hero needs a tragic backstory, so here we get two for the price of one, as young brothers Will and Breeze witness their father getting crushed by a water tower during Hurricane Andrew in 1992. And as if that wasn’t traumatic enough, the CGI clouds morph into a shrieking skull face, just to ram the point home.

Cut to the present day and the brothers’ lives have...

‘The Hurricane Heist’ Review
Stars: Toby Kebbell, Maggie Grace, Ryan Kwanten, Ralph Ineson, Melissa Bolona, Christian Contreras, James Cutler, Ben Cross, Ed Birch | Written by Scott Windhauser, Jeff Dixon | Directed by Rob Cohen

It appears to be the season for ridiculously dumb, yet surprisingly entertaining popcorn movies. Hot on the heels of Pacific Rim: Uprising comes The Hurricane Heist, in which, yes, a heist takes place during a hurricane. It’s difficult to imagine a sillier plot outside of Snakes on a Plane, but, like that film, The Hurricane Heist takes its ridiculous premise and runs with it, delivering about as much fun as it’s possible to have with a film this stupid.

Every action hero needs a tragic backstory, so here we get two for the price of one, as young brothers Will and Breeze (yep, there’s a character called Breeze in a hurricane movie) witness their father getting crushed by...

Rob Cohen at an event for xXx (2002)
Critics: ‘The Hurricane Heist’ is Foolhardy Fun, ‘A ‘Sharknado’ Movie Minus the Fish’
Rob Cohen at an event for xXx (2002)
Rob Cohen directed the first “Fast and the Furious” and “xXx” films, and hopes his perilous-weather thriller “The Hurricane Heist” leaves action fans clamoring for sequels. Distributed by Entertainment Studios and set in Alabama, the story follows a meteorologist (Toby Kebbell) intent on rescuing his brother (Ryan Kwanten) from a incoming superstorm, similar to the one that killed their father when they were kids. Yet a band of thieves eagerly awaits the squall, a diversion so they can lift $600 million from a U.S. mint and a treasury agent (Maggie Grace).

Critics genuinely complimented the “gleefully stupid” premise and building “idiocy,” along with the self-awareness screenwriters Jeff Dixon and Scott Windhauser supplied their characters. Also cited were editing gaffes, the actors’ wretched accents, and the too-low camp factor.

Read on for their best dispatches.
